Inform the world and investors about new Armenian realities – Pashinyan addresses Armenian woman from New York

YEREVAN, AUGUST 10, ARMENPRESS. Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan wishes Armenia not to be like Singapore or Israel, but to become an example for those countries. ARMENPRESS reports answering the question of an Armenian woman from New York in a meeting with Noyemberyan’s residents about how they can support Armenia to withstand the challenges, Pashinyan said, “The most important thing is to inform about the present realities of Armenia and encouraging them to come to Armenia with investments. The traditional relations between Armenia and the Diaspora has been a relation of donator-consumer. Now a new period has come. Our Diaspora businessmen should think of making investments in Armenia and creating new jobs together with their partners”.

The PM assured that there are no more obstacles for that. Equal opportunities for investments are guaranteed, and business protection is at a high level. “Let’s consolidate over one issue, which is to show the world the new face of Armenia. Foreign reporters often ask me if I want Armenia to be like Singapore, I say no, they ask like Israel? I again say no. I say I want Armenia to be like Armenia. Armenia, the grounds of which we have set together. The examples of Israel or Singapore should not be brought for us, but the example of Armenia should be brought there. We have such great ambitions”, the Prime Minister added.

Armenia does everything to ensure security of Karen Ghazaryan captured by Azerbaijanis

YEREVAN, AUGUST 10, ARMENPRESS. In a meeting with the residents of Noyemberyan PM Pashinyan assured that Armenia does everything to organize the safe return of Karen Ghazaryan captured by Azerbaijanis. ARMENPRESS reports PM Pashinyan reminded that his wife, Anna Hakobyan, visited Karen Ghazaryan’s family a few days ago.

“We take that issue very seriously and are seriously engaged in it. If you know recently my wife, Anna Hakobyan, visited Karen Ghazaryan’s family after which a letter was conveyed to Karen and there was a good news that he is alive”, Pashinyan said.

According to Pashinyan, the Armenian side does everything for organizing the return of Karen Ghazaryan.

“The Justice Ministry immediately after the incident with Karen Ghazaryan took urgent and professional measures at the ECHR and a very important decision over Karen Ghazaryan has been made, which enforces the Azerbaijani authorities to ensure his safety. The rest is a matter of negotiations and be confident that Armenia will do everything to solve that issue”, Pashinyan said.

On July 15, 2018 the Azerbaijani defense ministry announced that it pushed back, with the formulation of the Azerbaijani media, a sabotage group of the Armenian Armed Forces in the direction of Qazax region, and one of the group members was taken captive. Immediately after this statement Armenia’s defense ministry announced that that person is Karen Ghazaryan, a resident of Berdavan village of Armenia’s Tavush province, who faces mental problems, doesn’t serve and has never served in the Armenian Armed Forces.

Turkish Press: Fresh suit filed for massive inheritance of Turkish-Armenian brothel owner Manukyan

Hurriyet Daily News, Turkey
Aug 11 2018

Sixteen plaintiffs have filed a suit in Istanbul for the massive inheritance of Turkish-Armenian brothel owner Matild Manukyan seventeen years after her death.

Manukyan, who was one of the top tax payers in Turkey, died in 2001 and left behind a huge fortune, including 486 properties, dozens of cars, as well as millions in cash and stocks.

Manukyan’s inheritance was bequeathed to Kerope Çilingir, who was officially registered as his son.

Sixteen relatives of Manukyan, who live in the eastern province of Muş and the western provinces İzmir and Kocaeli, filed a fresh case over the inheritance last week at the Istanbul Civil Court of Peace.

The plaintiffs argued that Çilingir “usurped” the inheritance although he was not the late woman’s son.

According to their attorney, who said he concluded a years-long research over the issue, Manukyan’s fortune was mostly based on inheritance she received from her great uncle Armenak Chah Mouradian and her grandmother Susan Chah Mouradian.

Manukyan had no sons or daughters. My clients were her only relatives and legal heirs. But Kerope Çilingir usurped the inheritance,” the petition said, asking the court to “correct the error in the registry” and enforce an injuction to “keep Çilingir from selling the remaining properties.”

Giovanni Bosi, Echmiadzin / Armenia

Pashinyan suggests that colleagues in Russia adapt to new situation in Armenia

ARKA, Armenia
Aug 10 2018

YEREVAN, August 10. /ARKA/. During a visit today to Tavush province Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan was asked to comment on a statement by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on the latest developments in Armenia.

On July 31 Lavrov said that Moscow was ‘concerned’ over the latest developments in Armenia targeting former officials. Lavrov’s remarks came after former Armenian president Robert Kocharyan was charged with overthrowing the constitutional order.

“The events of the last few days contradict the recent declarations of the new Armenian leadership that it was not planning to pursue its predecessors on political grounds,” Lavrov said. “Moscow, as an ally of Yerevan, has always had an interest in the stability of the Armenian state, and therefore what is happening there must be of concern to us,” he said. Lavrov said also his ministry had raised its concerns with the Armenian leadership and was hoping for a “constructive” response.

Speaking to reporters in Tavush today Pashinyan said: “Now we have another situation, and we all need to adapt to this situation, including our Russian partners, so everything is fine.”

A Yerevan district court late on July 27 ruled that the Special Investigative Service (SIS) could hold Kocharyan for two months in pre-trial detention pending investigation. The case dates back to late February and early March 2008 following the disputed presidential election, when then prime minister Serzh Sargsyan was declared the winner, angering the opposition, led by the first Armenian president Levon Ter-Petrosyan and setting off 10 days of nonstop protests that led to a crackdown on March 1, in which 10 people were killed and more than 200 injured.

Kocharyan is now charged with toppling constitutional order in collusion with other persons, and the agency has applied to court for a detention warrant.

The same charge was brought against Yuri Khachaturov, secretary general of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, who had been the chief of the Yerevan garrison at the time of the bloody events of 2008.  However, Khachaturov was released on bail, for AMD 5 million.

Also former defense minister Mikael Harutyunyan is wanted by the law-enforcement authorities as a defendant in the case. He is accused of illegally using the Armenian armed forces against opposition supporters who demonstrated in Yerevan in the wake of the disputed presidential election held in February 2008. –0—-
