PKK CLAIMS RESPONSIBILITY FOR BTC BLAST

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) claimed responsibility
for the blast at Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline, according to Cihan
Turkish news agency.

The explosion occurred on the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline
in eastern Turkey late Aug. 5. Turkish energy officials say it
will take at least 24 hours for the fire engulfing the pipeline to
extinguish. Until then, it remains unclear what the extent of the
damage is and how long it would take to bring the pipeline back online.

A spokeswoman for British Petroleumsaid oil flows have been halted
after a fire damaged a valve of the 1767-km pipeline on a section in
eastern Turkey, but exports from the Ceyhan port terminal continued
from storage.

She also said BP and its partners continued to produce crude from
their Azeri fields for stockpiling until flows can resume.

"The incident didn’t stop oil production on the Caspian and exports
from Ceyhan are going in line with the schedule. (Turkish state firm)
Botas is taking all necessary measures to put the fire out," she added,
Reuters reports.

By Graciela MorenoFresno, CA, USA (KFSN) — Just two months ago Arthur
Mkoyan was days away from deportation & Today he’s getting ready to
head off to college.

A stranger has stepped forward to help the Bullard High School Graduate
pay for four years at UC Davis. Arthur Mkoyan, Fresno resident:
"At first I didn’t really believe it I thought it was one of those
jokes or something."

But it was no joke. A northern California woman Arthur Mkoyan had
never met … Is making his dream of going to UC Davis a reality.

Arthur Mkoyan: "This is probably the nicest thing anybody has ever
done for me."

Just days before Arthur and his family were to be deported back to
Armenia– Senator Diane Feinstein introduced a bill that allows the
family to stay until their immigration status is resolved. But Arthur a
4.0 student at Bullard High– would not be eligible for financial aid.

Sherry Heacox: "It just seemed like an injustice. I thought about it
for a couple of days and suddenly it was –do something about it if
you’re unhappy about it."

Sherry Heacox lives in northern California. She read about the Mkoyan’s
plight in the newspaper … And contacted Arthur’s mom.

Sherry Heacox: "I think the first words out of her mouth were ‘Oh my
God’ and I think there was some crying immediately."

Arthur’s father Reuben says he can’t find the words to say thank you to
Heacox … But he still worries about his family’s future in the U.S.

Reuben Mkoian, Arthur’s Father: "Some people say like okay– you’re
done. But it’s not okay– we have to wait, nobody knows what will
happen next."

For now Arthur looks forward to visiting the UC campus for the first
time this weekend.

Arthur Mkoyan: "I’m feeling excited–I get to move out and start a
new life and I get to continue my education at the school I wanted
to go to."

Heacox’s own daughter just graduated from UC Santa Barbara. Now, she’ll
begin to pay for Arthur’s education. Tuition alone is 25-thousand
dollars a year. Heacox says she has only one stipulation– quitting
is not an option. And she has one small request & Sherry Heacox:
"Maybe 4 years down the road I’ll get a graduation invitation … and
be standing at Davis watching as he strolls across the stage into a
new life."

Sherry says she and her husband are not wealthy by any means, but feel
fortunate to be able to help. She’ll join Arthur and his parents this
weekend for orientation at UC Davis.

We have already told you that on July 29 Armenian President Serge
Sargsyan and Catholics of All Armenians Garegin B participated in
the ceremony dedicated to the 650th anniversary of Saint Cross Church
in Crimea.

Saint Cross is the most significant center of Crimean – Armenian
colony.

It is located 4 km Southwest from the city Old Crimea, on the terrace
of the mountain "Saint Cross". The manuscripts about the church were
first written in 1347, though this church has been built much later
in 1358 by the help of Hovhannes kronavor, his brothers and religious
followers. The construction records of the church testify to this fact.

In 14-18 centuries Saint Cross used to be a big religious and cultural
center. It used to have its religious school, and a library, besides
being an Episcopal residence. As a religious center the complex
functioned up to 1920.

Gul Still Undecided On Armenia Soccer Match

GUL STILL UNDECIDED ON ARMENIA SOCCER MATCH

KARS (ArmRadio)–Turkish President Abdullah Gul was in Kars on
Wednesday where he said that he has yet to decide whether or not he
will accept President Serzh Sargsyan’s invitation to come to Yerevan
in September to watch the Turkish and Armenian national soccer teams
compete in a World Cup qualifier match, Mediamax news agency reported.

Gul’s statement came in response to questions asked by Armenian
Reporter and Aztag Daily Correspondent Tatoul Hagopian following
Gul’s meeting at Kars’s City Hall. Gul was in Kars Wednesday for the
groundbreaking ceremony of the Turkish section of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars
railroad.

"I, first and foremost, thanked Armenia’s president for the invitation,
but we still have not made a decision," Gul said. "Our policy is
clear. We seek to establish friendly relations and cooperation between
all the countries in the region."

"The existing issues need to be solved," he said, adding that Turkey
wishes to see stability in region.

But stability in the region is impossible when neighbours speak to
neighbours through ultimatums, ARF Dashnaktsoutiun Supreme Council
of Armenia Representative Armen Rustamian told reporters Wednesday
during a press conference at Armenia’s National Press Club.

"Turkey’s preconditions for the normalisation of relations with Armenia
are ultimatums and are unacceptable to the Republic of Armenia and
the ARF," he said. "It is very dangerous if the Genocide becomes a
subject of debate in this regard."

"We must not allow Turkey to create an illusion about the existence of
relations [with Armenia]," he told journalists. "If Turkey’s president
comes to Armenia, Dashnaktsoutiun …will say that a neighbour does
not speak in ultimatums with a neighbour."

According to Rustamian, this is not an issue of the past. It is an
issue of the future and is of direct concern to t he national security
of the country.

If Turkey wishes to normalise relations with Armenia, then it must
take steps in line with international standards, Rustamian remarked.

The agenda of the 63rd annual session of the UN General Assembly,
to start on September 16 in New York, includes two issues, related
to occupation of Azerbaijani territories by Armenia, reports
Novosti-Azerbaijan with reference to the press service for the UN
Secretary General.

"The preliminary variant of the agenda was ratified at the session
of the committees, held on July 18".

The preliminary agenda included 155 issues. After election of the

the head committees and ratification of the agenda, the member of
the delegation will initiate its discussion.

The debates will focus on support of international peace and security.

Two issues are directly connected with Armenian occupation of
Azerbaijani lands – "Protracted conflicts in the GUAM area and
their consequences for international peace, security and development"
(resolution 62/249) and "Situation in the occupied lands of Azerbaijan"
(resolution 62/243).

Moreover, other international issues will also be discussed.
