protects the president from its own compatriots. I can’t remember
such kind of shameful situation occurred again."

"Those people were born in that country and express their discontent
as it is accepted in that country. But why did the police interfere

connected with that accident unacceptable.

The representative of the ANC also noticed that there have been
serious protests in during the pan-Armenian trip of the President

question concerns a very important issue which is the improvement of
the relations with Turkey.

YEREVAN, October 8. / ARKA /. Draft resolution providing for the
recognition of the Armenian Genocide in the U.S. Congress, has been
supported by 132 congressmen, the regional director of the Armenian
Assembly of America (AAA) in Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh Arpi
Vardanyan said at a press conference Wednesday.

"Despite the fact that there are fears that the process of
normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations will suspend the process
of international recognition of the Armenian Genocide, we see that
the process continues," Vardanyan said.

The legislative initiative was launched in the House of Representatives
by Congressmen Adam Schiff, George Radanovich, and the co-chairs of
the Armenian-US House of Representatives Frank Pallone and Mark Kirk.

Document has been preceded by resolution 106, which was adopted by
a majority vote of the Committee on Foreign Affairs in U.S. House of
Representatives of the 110-convocation.

Vardanyan expressed confidence that Turkey will be forced to recognize
the Genocide sooner or later.

"In this matter there is a progress in Turkey itself. The new
generation grows up already with the knowledge that the genocide had
happened," the regional director of AAA said.

Armenian genocide (1915-1923) was the first genocide committed in
XX century.

Turkey rejects the accusation of massacres and the killing of one
and a half million Armenians during World War I.

As a result of massacres and deportations about 1.5 million people
were killed, 350 thousands of Armenians fled to the Caucasus and Europe
and 150 thousand of the 2 million Armenians were left in Turkey living
there at the beginning of XX century.

The fact of the Armenian genocide is recognized by many countries,
particularly by Uruguay, Russia, France, Lithuania, 42 of the 50 U.S.

states, as well as by the parliaments of Greece, Cyprus, Argentina,
Belgium, Wales, National Council of Switzerland, Common House of
Canada, the Seym of Poland and lower house of Italian parliament.

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ Ex-Economy Minister Edward Sandoyan, Pro-Rector of
Russian-Armenian (Slavonic University). predicts a complicated year
for Armenia. "We are going to have a hard time and there are fears that
next year will be complicated too. That’s because no active processes
are observed in Russia’s economy (which faces negative processes),
and much depends on our main source, i.e. foreign transfers," he told
a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter.

Economist forecasts 15% economic fall in Armenia by year end. "Without
exaggerating the number, I have serious fears that we’ll rank as the
first country in the list of CIS states. If we assume that possible
growth level is mainly due to government injections, recovery of
certain sectors and mitigation, I think 15 % is what we’ll get,
although many people forecast 10%," Sandoyan added.

Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan Advocates For "New Global Order"

TURKISH PRIME MINISTER ERDOGAN ADVOCATES FOR "NEW GLOBAL ORDER"

Wednesday, September 30, 2009

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey elaborated upon his
foreign policy, urging nations to come together under a "new global
order" based on trust and peace, during a Woodrow Wilson School
address in Richardson Auditorium last week.

"The global problems of our age require solutions on a global scale,"
he said, suggesting that "we must move from the understanding of a
world solely based on a perception of risk and threat, to a global
order which is based on solidarity and trust." Differences should be
embraced as a "source of enrichment," he explained.

War, economic crises, hunger, poverty, energy security, terrorism,
and climate change were listed as the major problems facing the
world today by Mr. Erdogan, who delivered the talk in Turkish. Event
attendees heard a simultaneous translation into English via wireless
transmitters.

Addressing such problems effectively would entail an equitable
and participatory global political order, Mr. Erdogan said, adding
that Turkey strives for a policy of "zero problems with all of our
neighbors," something particularly important as Turkey is uniquely
positioned as a bridge "between East and West," and "between Europe
and the Islamic world."

In her introductory remarks, Princeton University President Shirley
Tilghman said that "Turkey occupies a critical place in the world"
and has an important role to play vis a vis global security, in a
"region beset by ethnic, religious, and political tensions."

As a key player and U.S. ally in the region, Turkey has a long
relationship with neighboring countries like Greece, Russia,
Azerbaijan, Iran, Syria, and Iraq, Mr. Erdogan explained, while
also mentioning Turkey’s relationship with Armenia, noting that the
two countries are currently engaged in diplomatic talks mediated
by Switzerland.

Mr. Erdogan disapproved of the long delay regarding Turkey’s member
European Economic Community. "No other country has had to wait so
long," he said of the process, which began in 1959.

Praising President Barack Obama’s April visit to Turkey as one that
"once again reaffirmed the mutual trust and cooperation between the two
countries," Mr. Erdogan called the relationship a "model partnership."

The prime minister, along with a number of other Turkish officials,
visited Princeton between meetings of the United Nations General
Assembly, which preceded the G-20 summit in Pittsburgh.

Characterizing the 21st century as "the century of peace, not war; of
trust, not fear; of justice, not injustice; of order, not terror; of
prosperity, not poverty," Mr. Erdogan said, "It is our responsibility
to establish this kind of world."

Stepan Safaryan: RA-Turkish Agreement Pursues Long Term Goals

STEPAN SAFARYAN: RA-TURKISH AGREEMENT PURSUES LONG TERM GOALS

/PanARMENIAN.Net/
28.09.2009 20:04 GMT+04:00

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ "According to Turkey’s announcement, RA-Turkish
protocols will be signed by RA and Turkish Foreign Ministers on
October 10. Yet, we’re informed the presidents will be the ones to
sign protocols," Heritage Parliamentary Faction Leader Stepan Safaryan
told a news conference, citing anonymous sources.

Dwelling on negative aspects of preliminary protocols, Safaryan
thought it strange that authorities do not agree to exclude disputable
points from protocols, in case protocols do not contain any secret
preconditions. "If agreement stipulations pose no threat and do
not include preconditions, logics suggests they can be abandoned,"
Heritage representative noted.

According to Heritage Leader, if alterations to protocols are
unacceptable to Armenia and international community, there’s nothing
left for opposition but to believe RA-Turkish agreement pursues long
term goals.
