GLENDALE PUBLIC LIBRARY PRESENTS “ALL ABOUT ARMENIA’

Glendale, California, is home to one of the greatest concentration of
Armenians in a U.S. city and its public library offers varied cultural
programs that feature Armenian themes. As part of this vibrant city’s
Library Centennial Celebration, two marvelous storytellers, Sylva Natalie
Manoogian and Kay Mouradian will present the history, culture and life of
Armenia, providing insight into its people and places. The program will be
held in the Glendale Public Library Auditorium, 222 East Harvard Street, on
Wednesday, August 15, at 7:00 pm.

`The oral tradition has provided the chain of continuity for the long-lived
Armenians from generation to generation,’ states librarian and scholar,
Sylva Manoogian, who is the author of numerous articles on international
librarianship, as well as Armenian culture and heritage, and the recipient
of several prestigious national and international awards. She has served as
Library Administrator for the Los Angeles Public Library and Library Project
Director for the revitalization of the Calouste Gulbenkian Library of the
Armenian Patriarchate in Jerusalem. A full-time doctoral student at UCLA’s
Graduate School of Education and Information Studies, she is currently
engaged in very challenging research, including a comparative study of
Armenian and Chinese diasporas, the latter together with her doctoral
advisor and mentor, Professor Clara M. Chu.

Dr. Kay Mouradian is a retired Professor of Health and Physical Education
from the Los Angeles Community Colleges. She wrote her first novel, "A Gift
in the Sunlight: An Armenian Story", after her mother’s remarkable
recoveries from death’s door prompted her to examine her own ancestral past.
The novel was chosen by the University of Georgia as required reading for
its 2007 Armenia International Business and Relations Study Abroad Program
in Armenia. Dr. Mouradian will read selected portions of her book and will
lead a discussion about events that occurred during the 1915 genocide.

The public is invited to enjoy `All About Armenia,’ a free event sponsored
by the Friends of the Glendale Public Library. For further information, you
may call the Glendale Public Library at (818) 548-2042.

Radio AR agrees to proposal by Radio ‘Free Europe/Liberty/’

Radio AR signed the agreement proposed by Radio ‘Free Europe/Liberty/’
on retranslation of its programs

2007-07-28 23:53:00

The management of Radio AR signed the agreement proposed by Radio "Free
Europe/Liberty" on retranslation of its programs, ArmInfo was told
about it at the radio station "Radio AR".

Thereby, the broadcasting time meant for the programs of Public Radio
by Radio AR must be limited, so that the time is provided for the
transmissions of Radio Liberty. The agreement is presently sent to
Radio "Free Europe/Liberty" to be signed.

Commenting on this, the editor of Armenian Radio Liberty Armen Dulian
said that the requirements of the radio station’s controlling
authority- the Council of Directors of the American broadcasting
service didn’t change. "On July 24 the Council of Directors of the
American broadcasting service made a declaration, in which it expressed
a wish to continue broadcasting the radio station’s programs by RA
Public Radio, and since then the Council’s position hasn’t changed",
Dulian said. To note, the Council of Public Television and Public Radio
already stated that the transmission of the programs of Radio Liberty
on RA Public Radio will be terminated on August 9 2007.

Great Incredible Shame

GREAT INCREDIBLE SHAME

Hayots Ashkharh Daily
28 July 07

It turned out yesterday that according to Raffi Hovhannisyan, he had
`a feeling of great, incredible shame’ when he visited ex-Prime
Minister Alexander Arzumanyan in prison and he will consider it ` a
disgrace and a non-state approach’ if by the end of this year or at
least before the presidential elections this angel with cloudy feet is
not released from prison.
But doesn’t he consider it a disgrace and a shameful fact that
different Armenian leaders, at different times look for foreign
supporters to start revolution.
As for A. Arzumanyan, according to Mr. Hovhannisyan he is not the
first and the last person in Armenia that satisfies his every-day needs
by foreign `transfers’. Whereas, the thing is not about 200 ` 500$, but
about 100 thousand dollars that was `imported’ to Armenia before the
parliamentary elections.

BAKU: Mammadyarov sends letter to Albania on arms sales to Armenia

Azeri Press Agency, Azerbaijan

Elmar Mammadyarov sends letter to his Albanian, Pakistani
counterparts and OIC secretary general on arms sales to Armenia

[ 28 Jul 2007 14:03 ]

Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister sent a letter to Albanian Foreign
Minister Lulzim Basha, secretary general of Organization of Islamic
Conference (OIC) Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu and the head of the
organization’s Foreign Ministers’ Council, Pakistan’s Foreign
Minister Khurshid Kasuri on illegal arms sales to Armenia, spokesman
for Foreign Ministry Khazar Ibrahim told APA.

The letter says that such relations between Albania and Armenia pose
serious concern. It does not only worry Azerbaijani society, but also
has negative influence on friendship relations between Azerbaijan and
Albania, members of UN, OSCE and OIC.
`As you know, over 800,000 Azerbaijanis became refugees as a result
of Armenian aggression and ethnic cleansing. According to OIC
resolutions, in order to prevent Armenia from continuing aggression
and enlarging the conflict, the organization member states should not
sell military supplies, weapons to Armenia, and should not allow
using their country a transit country. This fact contradicts norms
and principles of the international law. Baku is against war and
regards selling military supplies and weapons to Armenia as an act
against Azerbaijan,’ the letter says.
Taking into account mutual relations between Azerbaijan and Albania,
especially high-level meeting of the two presidents last month in
Istanbul in the framework of BSECO summit, Elmar Mammadyarov called
on his Albanian counterpart to intervene in the case and ensure
canceling sale of weapons,. /APA/

Turkey Likely To Block Armenian Genocide Resolution In U.S. Congress

TURKEY LIKELY TO BLOCK ARMENIAN GENOCIDE RESOLUTION IN U.S. CONGRESS

PanARMENIAN.Net
27.07.2007 17:24 GMT+04:00

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ The policy of the AKP party, which won the July 22
parliamentary elections in Turkey, diverts a little from the official
Turkish line towards Armenia, Director of the Institute of Oriental
Studies at the RA Academy of Sciences, Dr Ruben Safrastyan told a
news conference July 27.

The statement made in 2002 on building relations with Armenia taking
into account not only political but also economic interests was
unprecedented.

With a good deal of optimism we can hope that the ruling AKP will
make a positive step towards improvement of relations with Armenia,
according to him.

However, Dr Safrastyan said, Turkey will press for blocking passage
of the Armenian Genocide Resolution in the U.S. Congress and is likely
to succeed.

He said Armenia should not perceive the Armenian Genocide recognition
issue as a burden. "It’s not only ‘our duty’ but also a possibility
to strengthen positions on the international arena," he noted, IA
Regnum reports.
