restore direct flights that will open way for future cooperation.

Information and communication sphere in India has greatly developed
ensuring jobs for 12 million people,” he said.

The opening of the Armenian-Indian ITT center is a good example for

another contemporary center has been created.

“The opening of the center will promote the Armenian-Indian economic
cooperation. After “Tumo” and “Microsoft” companies it is the third

The area near Trchkan waterfall was again overcrowded on Sunday.

Before participating in a triumphant concert in the village of
Nalband, members of a recently formed social initiative “Let’s
Conserve the Trchkan Waterfall” launched a massive clean-up in the
area. Later, they left for Nalband where a rock concert was held
with the participation of groups BAMBIR, VORDAN KARMIR, LOUSNELIUS,
SCREAM, YAN and THE DREAMERS.

A song was performed during the concert dedicated to the waterfall.

On October 25, activists of the “Let’s Conserve the Trchkan Waterfall”
put up tents near the waterfall demanding Robshin Ltd to suspend the
construction of a hydropower plant on the endangered waterfall.

In response to protests staged by the initiative group, Prime Minister
Tigran Sargsyan suggested last week that the government grant Trchkan
a specially protected area status. The government decided to give
Trchkan a status that would make it immune to all sorts of industrial
exploitation.

L’election du maire d’Erevan se deroulera le 15 novembre. Mais
le nom du futur maire est deja quasiment connu. Il s’agit de Daron
Markarian adoube par le Parti Republicain majoritaire. Une decision du
Parti Republicain vaut election…

Arts: Judge Refuses To Toss Armenian Church Bible Suit

JUDGE REFUSES TO TOSS ARMENIAN CHURCH BIBLE SUIT

Albany Democrat Herald

Nov 4 2011

The J. Paul Getty Museum on Thursday lost its bid for dismissal of
the Armenian church lawsuit demanding the return of pages ripped from
a sacred handwritten Armenian Bible dating back to 1256.

Superior Court Judge Abraham Khan denied Getty’s motion to dismiss the
claim and ordered four months of mediation in an attempt to resolve
the dispute between the museum and the Western Prelacy of the Armenian
Apostolic Church of America, which filed suit in June 2010 on behalf
its mother church, the Lebanon-based Holy See of Cilicia.

The suit accuses Getty of harboring stolen illuminated medieval
manuscripts, saying they are spiritually and historically sacred
church masterpieces.

The lawsuit claims the church had the Bible authenticated in 1947 or
1948 and it was returned with more than a half-dozen pages missing.

The pages of painted parchment once formed the front pages of a larger
work called the Zeyt’un Gospels.

The church wants to send them to an Armenian museum in Yerevan so
they can be reunited with the rest of the Bible.

Getty officials say the more than half-dozen pages were legally
acquired in 1994 for $950,000 from an anonymous private collector.

The Los Angeles Times ( ) said museum attorneys
argued during Thursday’s brief hearing that the lawsuit filing deadline
expired decades ago.

But the judge said he was unclear on the statute of limitations issue.

Khan ordered mediation and another hearing on March 2 if the case
isn’t settled.

Under California law, lawsuits to recover allegedly stolen artworks
from a museum or art dealer must be filed no later than six years
after the owner learns of their whereabouts.

“We are confident that we hold legal title,” the Getty Museum said
in a statement after the ruling.

Church attorney Lee Boyd said afterward that the museum failed to
investigate the ownership history of the pages when it bought them
from Armenian American heirs of a man the church says stole the pages
in 1916.

The Zeyt’un Gospels had briefly fallen into his hands when Turks
expelled the Armenian community from Cilicia, then a region of the
Ottoman Empire and now part of Turkey, during and after the World
War I-era that Armenians term a genocide.

Baku. Parvin Abbasov – APA. “If change of power takes place in Armenia
as a result of elections, changing in the negotiation process over
the settlement of Karabakh problem will be inevitable”, Europe Program
Director of the International Crisis Group Sabine Freizer said.

“Good news is that there is no probability of war or pushing war in
the next two years. It is a message for the prevention of the war”.

Freizer said it was important to establish communication at least
between the representatives of civil society, ordinary citizens in
the next two years if it didn’t take place between the top government
officials. “We intend to build confidence between the people”.

AZERBAIJANI DIPLOMAT: “AZERBAIJAN CONTINUES TO SUFFER FROM ONE OF THE HIGHEST PROPORTIONS OF REFUGEES AND DISPLACED PERSONS IN THE WORLD AS A RESULT OF ARMENIAN AGGRESSION”

Azerbaijan

Washington. Isabel Levine – APA. Azerbaijan has addressed the 40th
meeting of the UN General Assembly’s Third Committee in New York during
the discussion about refugees, returnees and displaced persons and
humanitarian questions in the world, APA’s US correspondent reports.

Farid Jafarov, Attache of the Permanent Mission of Azerbaijan to the
UN, stated that the aggression by Armenia against Azerbaijan resulted
in occupation of almost one fifth of the territory of Azerbaijan,
and made approximately one out of ever ninth person in the country
internally displaced or a refugee. Azerbaijan continues to suffer from
one of the highest proportions of refugees and displaced persons in
the world.

“The Government had made a major effort to solve housing problems for
the affected population, but still faced problems from the protracted
conflict and, now that they had passed an emergency phase, the
international community did not pay much attention”, he said adding,
the rights of Azerbaijani citizens residing in Nagorno-Karabakh and
surrounding districts have been severely violated by their expulsion
from occupied territories.

“Thus, the primary obligation upon Armenia is to ensure that the
occupation of Azerbaijani territories is ended and that the various
rights of the internally displaced persons of Azerbaijani ethnicity
are recognized and implemented,” he said.

In their response statement, Armenian representatives couldn’t bring
reliable arguments against Azerbaijan’s concerns, pointing out Baku’s
oil opportunities.

Answering to the Armenian side, Azerbaijan’s representative mentioned
that the government had used its oil revenues to alleviate the welfare
of the refugee and internally displaced persons populations in the
country, and “Armenia needed to renounce its policy of hatred and
work on restoring relations”.
