One has to grow wiser after 60

What new things did Levon Ter-Petrsoyan say on October 26 on the
Theatrical Square, during his speech which lasted around 1 hour and
10 minutes? What are the impressions regarding his advent and his
claim for Presidency?

As mentioned by the NAS (National Academy of Sciences) Academician
Henrik Hovhannisyan, Doctor-Professor in Art Studies, "A person has
to be sensible enough to know that his time is in the past. The same
game cannot repeat itself after several years when the atmosphere
has changed, the forces have changed, the arena has changed, and,
after all, you yourself have changed…"

Many years ago, in 1983, actress Violeta Gevorkyan played a magnificent
role on the stage of the Dramatic Theatre. It was one of the best
performances I had ever seen: "Autumn Sun", based on Hrant Matevosyan’s
story. No woman had ever had such an image on the Armenian stage. I
wrote 3 articles about her brilliant performance.

Years later, about 2 years ago, she came to play that role again.

I told her that there was no need to play the same role. The times
have changed; we do not have the same audience. The co-players have
changed; I didn’t tell her that she herself had changed.

And she repeated it. Those who saw it came to me and said, ‘was
that what you wrote about?’ Naturally, what they had seen could not
be what I had seen. That is, you cannot play the same game. It is
impossible. The performance is over; the repetition cannot have the
same value.

Similarly now, after shutting himself away for 10 years, a person
suddenly rises to his feet and … as if he has come out of the grave.

He is politically dead in the strictest sense of the word. It isn’t
as if you are an intellectual and read manuscripts in Matenadaran;
don’t you know that it is impossible to cross the same river twice?

Generally, a person has to grow wiser after 60, while in this case
we are dealing with utmost stupidity. Even if he were wonderful and
we remembered him jokingly, repetition would be impermissible again.

The matter does not consist in being good or bad. The same water
stream never flows down the river. One is not required to be literate
to understand that; all he needs to have is common sense, wittiness.

We all have changed.

The kind of society and the values have changed. You may say true
things, speak eloquently but that won’t work. People have memory."

"But simultaneously, there is the phenomenon of ‘memory lapse’ which
has its bearers."

"It is public idiotism. There is a generation that has no idea of what
happened. There is another generation that was young and didn’t see
and understand everything well. But the generation who bear in their
souls and consciousness the times they lived and survived cannot
and must not have a memory lapse. But there is also the concept of
moral memory. Today the former President may come and propose a new
conception. But that won’t work. Even if he tells the greatest truth,
that won’t work. Such is life. There is a historical context.

And in general, when a person makes a step, he/she has to think
over it.

Have they really remained so firm, that they are repeating the same
things after 10 years?

You have come out of Khor Virap, and now you are repeating the legend
of Gregory the Illuminator?"

GUL: U.S. WILL ONE DAY LEAVE THE REGION AND IT’S CLEAR WHO WILL REMAIN AS A POWER THERE

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ "The U.S. will one day leave the region. It is clear
who will stay in this region, who will remain as a power there. Barzani
needs to make a decision," Turkish President Abdullah Gul said during
an official reception in Ankara.

"Turkey is no one’s enemy. We supply more help to northern Iraq than
anyone. We have more relatives and close ones there than anyone. During
difficult periods in the past for northern Iraq, Turkey always opened
its doors. But the terror group relations are poisoning things,
they are taking our relations hostage," Gul said, Hurriyet reports.

ANKARA: The Greek Cypriot-PKK Connection

THE GREEK CYPRIOT-PKK CONNECTION
* View by Ata ATUN

Journal of Turkish Weekly, Turkey
Oct 29 2007

The Greek Cypriot-Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) connection exists
not only on a simple level and is not just a tiny connection to a
Cypriot passport numbered C015198, valid 1995-2005 and issued to
Kurdish terrorist leader Abdullah Ocalan under the fake name Lazaros
Mavros. The latter actually is the founder of the Kurdish Solidarity
Committee (KSC) in Cyprus.

When Apo — the Kurdish terrorist leader Ocalan — was captured by
the Turkish counterterrorism team in Nairobi on Feb. 15, 1999 around
8:00 p.m., he was carrying a Greek Cypriot passport officially issued
by the Immigration Office of the Ministry of Interior of the Greek
Cypriot administration.

In Nairobi, he was accommodated in the residence of the Greek Embassy
and was looked after by Maj. Savvas Kalenderidis of the EIP, the
Greek intelligence agency.

Despite the Greek Cypriot side’s desperate denials of its role in this
passport issue, its link with the PKK in particular and international
terrorism in general has been proven with various reports, press
articles and other official documents.

Indeed, not only the Greek Cypriot officials but also other non and
semi-official figures and organizations have, at times been reported to
be supporting and morally and materially harboring the PKK and other
terror groups, such as the Armenian Secret Army for the Liberation of
Armenia (ASALA). The prevailing mentality has always been "the enemy
of my enemy is my friend." That has finally backfired, as seen in the
Kurdish violence against the Greeks in connection with the arrest of
Apo and his subsequent repatriation to Turkey.

The Greek Cypriot-PKK connection was first established by Dr. Vassos
Lyssarides, the honorary president of the socialist Greek Cypriot
party the Movement of Social Democrats (EDEK) and the former speaker
of the Greek Cypriot Parliament, right after the Turkish intervention
of 1974, with the motto "the enemy of my enemy is my friend."

With the financial backing of the Greek Cypriot administration he
established terrorist camps in the Troodos Mountains of southern
Cyprus in 1976 for the accommodation and training of ASALA and PKK
terrorists to fight against Turkey.

Recently, the very same Dr. Vassos Lyssarides was sent to Damascus
on an inducement mission to stop the ferry service from Famagusta
to Lattakia, relying on his past cooperation with Syrian officials
in PKK business. During his discussion with the new generation of
Syrian officials, he was kindly turned down and showed out, when he
hinted to disclose the old files if the ferry service from Famagusta
to Lattakia was not banned.

He also acted as an advisor to the USSR during the Cold War era on
the very important subject titled "NATO and the Strategy of NATO
in the Eastern Mediterranean Region." During one of the "anti-NATO"
meetings held in Athens in 1976, he stated that "a medium similar to
the Vietcong’s in Vietnam, against [the] US is already organized in
Cyprus to wipe out the Turkish Cypriots from Cyprus."

During the mid-1970s Lyssarides, the journalist Lazaros Mavros — the
non-fictitious owner of Apo’s passport — and Theophilos Georghiades,
the notorious Greek Cypriot narcotics smuggler, jointly established
the KSC in Nicosia, the capital city of south Cyprus, with the aim
of supporting and harboring the PKK in the Greek sector of the island.

By the end of the 1970s, in more than 30 camps in south Cyprus Greek,
Greek Cypriot, Armenian and Kurdish terrorists, as well as terrorists
from various other countries were under the training of Cuban, Libyan
and Greek army officers.

Up until the present day no Greek Cypriot politician has ever labeled
the PKK a terrorist organization.

Even Mr. Yiannis Kasulides, the DISY presidential candidate who
promotes himself as a mild-mannered politician seeking a sustainable,
peaceful solution on the island, made various statements lending
official support to the PKK in their terrorist attacks against Turkish
civilians and troops during his days as minister of foreign affairs,
which clearly defined his perspective on Turkish Cypriots and the
Turkish people.

Even today, the funding provided by the Greek Cypriot Orthodox Church
to the PKK, the organizational activities of the KSC by non-Kurdish
Greek Cypriot members, the funding of the printed material supporting
PKK activities by the Greek Cypriot administration, the medical
treatment and rehabilitation of PKK terrorists in Cypriot hospitals
who were wounded during their attacks against Turks and official
permits to campaign for the collection of funds to benefit the PKK
in south Cyprus show and clearly prove the strong connection between
the Greek Cypriots, the Greek Cypriot administration and the PKK.

The Turkish Cypriots are being forced by the international community
to establish a joint state with the Greek Cypriots, who have harbored
hostile feelings against Turks for centuries.

Somebody probably has pink dreams of a joint state in Cyprus under a
unitary or a federal government umbrella, which in reality does not
have a chance at survival. Two neighboring states in Cyprus is the
inevitable and long-lasting solution for the island.

"I WILL VOTE FOR LEVON TER-PETROSIAN," MOTHER OF VAZGEN SARGSIAN SAYS

Noyan Tapan

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 29, NOYAN TAPAN. "I was eager to come and listen to
the speech of our first President and I was sure that it will be very
strong and weighty. Thus Greta Sargsian, the mother of Vazgen Sargsian,
the RA former Prime Minister, grounded her presence at the October
26 mass meeting in her interview with a Noyan Tapan correspondent.

Commenting on the decision of the RA first President on being voted
for in the presidential elections, Greta Sargsian mentioned that she
believes the words of Levon Ter-Petrosian and will vote for him. "It is
him , who will bring this country to its real status, and our people
will lead a proper life. Everything will be put in their places and
Levon can arrange all that." However, according to Greta Sargsian,
that will not be done in one day since "the country is so corrupted,
people are in such a bad situation that it is difficult to say that
everything will be all right."

Greta Sargsian also expressed conviction that in case Levon
Ter-Petrosian becomes president, the terrorism of October 27 will be
completely revealed.

"Our goal is just that. May it be revealed and may I see the faces
of the real organizers," she said.

Azerbaijan, Armenia May Sign Accord On Disputed Area By Spring

AZERBAIJAN, ARMENIA MAY SIGN ACCORD ON DISPUTED AREA BY SPRING

RIA Novosti
Oct 26 2007
Russia

BAKU, October 26 (RIA Novosti) – The presidents of Armenia and
Azerbaijan could sign a framework agreement on resolving a dispute
over Nagorny Karabakh by spring 2008, a co-chairman of the OSCE Minsk
Group said Friday. The conflict between the two former Soviet republics
over Nagorny Karabakh, a region in Azerbaijan with a largely Armenian
population, first erupted in 1988 when it declared independence from
Azerbaijan to join Armenia. Co-chairman Matthew Bryza said that both
sides could sign a framework agreement before Armenian presidential
elections next spring. Bryza said that during the recent meeting
between Armenian President Robert Kocharyan and the chairmen of
the OSCE Minsk Group, the Armenian leader said the signing of such
an agreement was possible, but stressed that it would be just the
start of the negotiating process. The Organization for Security
and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Minsk Group was created in 1992 to
encourage a peaceful resolution to the conflict between Azerbaijan
and Armenia over Nagorno-Karabakh. The group is co-chaired by U.S.,
Russian and French representatives. Over 30,000 people were killed on
both sides between 1988 and 1994, and over 100 died following a 1994
ceasefire. Nagorny Karabakh remained in Armenian hands, but tensions
between Azerbaijan and Armenia have persisted.
