Azerbaijani press: Baku: Iran continues smear campaign against Azerbaijan

By Ayya Lmahamad

Foreign Ministry’s Spokesperson Leyla Abdullayeva has said that the Iranian Foreign Ministry does not stop its smear campaign against Azerbaijan.

She made the remarks while commenting on Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian’s interview with the Lebanese Al-Manar TV channel.

“Unfortunately, the Iranian Foreign Ministry does not stop its smear campaign against Azerbaijan. We strongly reject such accusations,” she said.

The spokesperson underlined that during the 44-day war, Azerbaijan stated and now stresses once again that there were no terrorists on the country’s territory. She underlined that on the territory of Azerbaijan, as a country that suffered from terror, “there has never been a place for terrorists”.

“Azerbaijan liberated its lands from occupation at the cost of the blood and lives of its martyrs. As President Ilham Aliyev noted, Azerbaijan, which has over 100,000-member army, does not need mercenaries,” she said.

Abdullayeva stressed the fact that Iran had not made similar accusations during the war, and there was no reason for concern until, after the war, the new government came to power.

“Reasons for these baseless accusations are the prevention of the illegal entry of Iranian trucks into Azerbaijan’s territory and the liberation of Azerbaijan’s lands from occupation. Our advice to those who want to look for terrorists is to carefully look around themselves,” she stated.

It should be noted that last October, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry provided the diplomatic corps in the country, including the Iranian embassy, with information about the participation of Armenian mercenaries in combat operations in the country’s formerly occupied territories.

Iran’s very inadequate behavior, illegal transportation of goods to Azerbaijan’s Khankandi without Baku’s consent, its description of Armenia as a “brotherly and friendly country”, the conduct of drills along the border with Azerbaijan, the closure of its airspace to planes carrying military supplies to Nakhchivan, in the past couple of weeks has flared up tension in its relations with neighbor Azerbaijan.

It is noteworthy that Iran’s state circles, officials, MPs, and the media still continue their aggressive rhetoric against Azerbaijan, claiming about an alleged Israeli presence near its border, which Baku officially dismissed as unfounded.

Asbarez: Dink’s Family to Receive 1.5 million Turkish Liras in Compensation

Slain journalist Hrant Dink

The family of slain editor-in-chief of Turkish-Armenian daily Agos, Hrant Dink, will get a compensation of 1.5 million Turkish liras (about $168,000), as the Council of State upheld a decision of Istanbul’s 6th Administrative Court.

Dink’s widow, Rakel Dink, and her children had filed a lawsuit seeking damages totaling 1.5 million Turkish liras, including 500,000 liras for financial and 1 million liras for non-financial damages, saying that the Ministry of Interior had serious fault and responsibility in Hrant Dink’s murder.

The Istanbul 6th Administrative Court pointed out that Hrant Dink was targeted due to the articles he wrote and were published in the Agos Newspaper, which provoked some ultra-nationalist groups to react. The court added that his right to life was in clear and imminent danger, and therefore, protection measures should have been taken without waiting for his request. It ruled that there was no room for doubt about the administration’s fault in protecting Dink’s right to life.

Turkey’s Interior Ministry appealed the court’s ruling at the Council of State, which unanimously upheld the court’s decision.

Dink was assassinated on January 19, 2007 as he was entering the editorial offices of Agos.

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 7, ARMENPRESS. The price of gas on the ICE exchange continued to decline on Thursday.

By 11:30 Yerevan time, it dropped below $1,000 per 1,000 cubic meters for the first time since September 29.

The price dropped to $973 per 1,000 cubic meters, although at the opening it was around $1,250 per 1,000 cubic meters, TASS reports.

On Wednesday, the price of November futures surpassed $1,900 per 1,000 cubic meters, setting a new historical maximum, but later it began to rapidly decline. By the end of the trading session, the index fell 1.5-fold.

The high volatility of prices on the European gas market is associated with low reserves in gas storage facilities ahead of the coming winter.

Asbarez: U.S. Should Recognize Artsakh’s Right to Self-Determination, Says Schiff

[SEE VIDEO]

In an interview with Asbarez Editor Ara Khachatourian on October 5, Rep. Adam Schiff discussed efforts in Congress to hold Azerbaijan accountable, including pressuring Baku to release Armenian prisoners of war.

The Congressman also detailed other legislative efforts, including compelling the U.S. to stop military assistance to Azerbaijan and a provision in the Intelligence Authorization Act requiring an unclassified report on the likelihood of future military action within the Southern Caucuses — including Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Nagorno-Karabakh.

Schiff also discussed the potential role the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs can play in determining the status of Karabakh, adding that the Nov. 9 document, which established a ceasefire, is not a final settlement of the conflict.

He also said that the United States should recognize Artsakh’s right to self-determination and democratic aspirations.

Armenia rules out opening ‘sovereign corridor’ for Azerbaijan

A senior Armenian security official has ruled out the possibility of opening “sovereign corridors” for its neighbors inside the country’s borders, as part of efforts to resolve the conflict with Azerbaijan.

Armenia’s Secretary of the Security Council Armen Grigoryan told local media that Yerevan may open its roads to be used by Azerbaijan and Turkey, “but these roads will be under the control of the Republic of Armenia.”

Grigoryan noted that no “sovereign corridor” will exist inside Armenia’s borders.

The diplomat was apparently referring to remarks made by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who said last month that issues between Yerevan and Baku “will end with the opening of the corridors.”

Erdogan did not specify which “corridors” he was speaking about, but Azeri President Ilham Aliyev has repeatedly called for the establishment of the “Zangezur corridor” that would cross southern Armenia and connect Azerbaijan’s western regions with the country’s Nakhchivan exclave.

Armenia, whose borders to the east and west were cut off due to the border conflict with Azerbaijan, is willing to discuss unblocking all road infrastructure at the level of deputy prime ministers of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Russia, but the issue of “corridor” will not be discussed, Grigoryan said.

There is an opportunity for Armenia to discuss these issues and reach a mutual understanding with the neighboring countries, he emphasized.

The main road connecting the cities of Goris and Kapan in Armenia’s Syunik region runs alongside the Azerbaijani border in territory that Baku regained control of following last year’s peace deal.

The Russian-brokered ceasefire ended six weeks of fierce fighting between the two Caucasus countries over Nagorno-Karabakh. The war left an estimated 6,000 people dead on both sides.

Nagorno-Karabakh is internationally recognized as part of Azerbaijan but has been populated by ethnic Armenians.

Geghamasar community head: Armenia Gegharkunik Province Jaghatsadzor village reservoir under Azerbaijan control

News.am, Armenia
Sept 16 2021

Most of Jaghatsadzor village of Armenia’s Gegharkunik Province has no water, as the village reservoir is now under the control of Azerbaijan. Hakob Avetyan, the head of Geghamasar enlarged community, told about this to Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“Since May 12 when the enemies entered our territory without hindrance, the reservoir has been under enemy control. We can use the reservoir, but we are afraid that they poison the water to harm the residents,” Avetyan said.

According to him, Jaghatsadzor gets its water from nearby villages, and sometimes the villagers bring water with their own means.

“We cannot bring water from distant villages because it is connected with large sums of money. We need an alternative, and the community cannot resolve this issue with its own means, the participation of the government is necessary. We have petitioned to the government, too, on this issue, but there was no tangible result,” added Hakob Avetyan.

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 13, ARMENPRESS. Hermine Stepanyan, a well-known actress, TV host and blogger, and designer Gayane Soghomonyan united their efforts to create a new Armenian brand – UNLIKE Fashion Outbreak.

UNLIKE collection is made of high-quality fabrics, is in line with world trends and at the same time is affordable for the wider public.

Starting from September 15, UNLIKE clothes which are now shown at Tpagrichner 4 showroom will be presented also in the “5 Concept” multi-brand store launched by Armenian designers. ARMENPRESS reports the brand’s Facebook and Instagram pages are always available for those who prefer online shopping.

According to Hermine Stepanyan, the co-founder of UNLIKE brand, she had great desire to contribute to Armenia’s economic progress especially after the war. And the creation of high-quality and affordable Armenian production was what Hermine thought about the first.

“I have been working with designer Gayane Soghomonyan for years. I was thinking of developing another type of cooperation with Gayane after the creation of the capsule collection by Soghomonyan Fashion for the project “Life is beautiful with Hermine Stepanyan”. The COVID-19 pandemic and the painful events of 2020 in our country made me committed to an idea that we should find a new inspiration, recover and continue creating in our land. I talked to Gayane and we realized that we are ready to make a contribution into the Armenian fashion industry and the development of the field,” says Hermine Stepanyan.

They involved partners to support their startup – UNLIKE which is made for those who appreciate stylishly designed comfortable and affordable clothes.

Gayane Soghomonyan, designer with more than 25-year-long experience in fashion industry, mentions that she has been sewing clothes for herself from the school years trying to look differ from her peers. “I pursue the principle of emphasizing the uniqueness during my whole career and I try to express it in all my collections. You know I always smile during making UNLIKE clothes because our brand is about positive mood in bright colors,” says Gayane Soghomonyan.

Why UNLIKE?

The founders of UNLIKE note that the whole team was actively involved in the creative process – deciding on the brand name, the colors of the collection, the fabrics. The choice was made for UNLIKE which means different, diverse and incomparable.

“The name of our brand should be out of box, non-stereotypical, memorable, and why not, intriguing. This name is challenging in itself, that’s completely about us; it’s our inspiration, different and original,” added Hermine Stepanyan.

UNLIKE Fashion Outbreak has also market expansion plans for the future. The customers are not only offered oversize clothes for each season, but also UNLIKE collection will be replenished with evening dresses in the near future. The Autumn-Winter collection will not be delayed.
