Arminfo. In September 2009 Armenia technically will be able to receive
7-9 mln sq/m of natural gas per day from Iran against the present 3-3,5
mln sq/m, engineer general of CJSC ArmRusgasprom" Ashot Hovsepyan
told journalists, Wednesday when he was learning the rehabilitation
work at the Ararat-Yerevan sector of the Iran-Armenia gas pipeline.

He also added the Ararat-Yerevan sector of the pipeline is
40 km long, 10 km of which should be rehabilitated because of
damage. A couple of months ago "Techno fit" company has started the
rehabilitation work which will be finished in september 2009, Hovsepyan
said. "ArmRusgasprom" has a task to increase technical potential of
getting maximally possible amount of gas from Iran in case of the
force-major situations, which will raise energy security of Armenia’,
– he said and added "Techno fit" implemented new technologies using
polymer and other composing materials, which make it possible to
restore the damaged sectors of the gas pipeline without stopping of
gas supply. Thanks to rehabilitation the gas pipeline will be able to
withstand pressure up to 30-40 atmospheres necessary for delivery of up
to 9 mln sq/m gas per day against the present maximally possible 15-16
atmospheres. The exploiting term of the pipeline will be prolonged
for another 20 years. These technologies may be also used to restore
the damaged sectors of other gas pipelines as well as water pipelines,
he said.

Ataka Leader Thanks Bulgaria Voters For Removing BSP, DPS

ATAKA LEADER THANKS BULGARIA VOTERS FOR REMOVING BSP, DPS

Bulgaria

The Leader of the far right Ataka party, Volen Siderov, has thanked all
Bulgarian voters for ousting BSP and DPS and sending them in oblivion.

Siderov spoke Tuesday during the official first session of the 41st
National Assembly.

"Politics is not a vaudeville. Politics is a rough, cruel occupation,
and we are not attending the arts workshop. Mr Pantev, you presented
the things, as everything is running smooth in Bulgaria. During your
ruling, Mr Stanishev, there was actual political repression. You sent
the Bulgarian police to beat elderly people, who were protesting. Your
ruling was a regime, not a democratic government. You were conducting
political repression with the mandate of the Turkish party, DPS",
Siderov said.

He also accused the President of Bulgaria, Georgi Parvanov, for
being guilty for giving the mandate for the previous government to
the anti-constitutional, anti-Bulgarian organization of DPS, which
is the successor of a terrorist organization.

"I hope that the presence of so many jurists in this hall will result
in numerous sentences to those who are guilty. If we do not start this
rule without finding those who damaged Bulgaria most, we will not
be a new majority. Ataka will withdraw its support to the political
force that walks the path of compromise", Siderov said.

In the first working day of the new Parliament, Ataka will present
four bills for discussion. Among them is a proposal for acknowledging
the genocide over the Armenians in the Ottoman Empire.

U.S. official welcomes Armenian efforts to mend ties with Turkey

YEREVAN, July 11 (RIA Novosti) – The United States welcomes Armenian
authorities’ efforts to normalize relations with Turkey, a U.S. deputy
secretary of state said Saturday.

James Steinberg, who is currently on an official visit to Yerevan, the
capital of Armenia, said that the current progress in Armenian-Turkish
relations should proceed regardless of other issues, including the
issue of the Nagorny Karabakh.

Armenia and Turkey have had no diplomatic relations since the Soviet
Union broke up in 1991. However, they agreed to a "roadmap" to
normalize their relations under Swiss mediation in April this year.

Turkey closed its border with Armenia in 1993 in a show of support for
Azerbaijan following a bloody conflict over Nagorny Karabakh. Over
35,000 people died in fighting over the area in the early 1990s before
a ceasefire was signed in 1994. Nagorny Karabakh technically remains
part of Azerbaijan, but has its own de facto government.
