Sicily recognizes the genocide of the Armenians (in Italian)

Sponda Sud, Italia
21 aprile 2020

YEREVAN, APRIL 17, ARMENPRESS. Armenian foreign ministry spokesperson Anna Naghdalyan commented on Azerbaijan’s reaction to the recent elections held in Artsakh, the MFA told Armenpress.

Armenpress presents the MFA spokeswoman’s full comment:

Question: The election process in Artsakh, which lasted from March 31 to April 14 and was concluded with the election of a new president and parliament, as expected,  received a negative reaction from Azerbaijan. How would you comment on that reaction?

Answer: Through several statements the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia has already expressed its position on the elections held in Artsakh.

In this regard, I would like to only emphasize two circumstances. First, in the context of the Artsakh elections, the highest authorities of Azerbaijan have made very critical comments towards the European human rights institutions. Indeed, this was not accidental. It should be recalled that the European human rights institutions made an important assessment on the parliamentary elections held in Azerbaijan this February by which the low level of legitimacy of those elections was revealed.

It is obvious that in a country where the power has never been transferred through democratic process, the formation of new authorities in Artsakh through competitive and democratic elections should have triggered a nervous reaction.

Second, Azerbaijan tries to involve the international community in its campaign against human rights in Artsakh. To that end, Azerbaijan doesn’t refrain from strictly selective and distorted presentation of international reactions to these elections.

Azerbaijan attempts to ignore the key messages of the same reactions, which refer to the role of the people of Artsakh in determining their future, and the importance of elections from the perspective of organizing public life in Artsakh. Meanwhile, these messages are crucial for creating an environment conducive to advancement of the peace process.

In our region, the formation of authorities who received the vote of the people, who express the will of people and who are accountable before those people, is extremely important in terms of the transformation of conflict and the reconciliation of peoples. The people of Artsakh took another important step in this direction on March 31 and April 14”.

Panorama, Armenia

“Artsakh Republic share your view of the UN Secretary-General that the life of every person should be at the centre of the collective efforts of the international community in combatting the novel Coronavirus pandemic,” the Artsakh foreign said ina released statement. According to it  only guided by the principle of “no one is left behind” will humanity be able to withstand this test with dignity. “For the Republic of Artsakh, which has been in conflict with Azerbaijan for three decades, the fight against the novel Coronavirus pandemic is becoming particularly acute given the fact that, due to the conflict, the people of Artsakh are deprived of international assistance,” reads the statement.

“We are convinced that during this critical period, any attempts to take advantage of the situation caused by the pandemic to achieve narrow political goals, pose a threat to the entire international community and deserve the strongest condemnation. Pasadena schools to offer Armenian dual language program next year

Pasadena Star, CA
April 6 2020

Pasadena Unified will offer a new Armenian dual language immersion program for high school students in the 2020-2021 school year, according to a news release from the district.

Dual immersion programs aim for biliteracy by immersing students in both languages as they’re taught multiple subjects. Proponents say Pasadena Unified’s offering of Armenian is the first for that language in the United States.

April 6 marks the start of registration for the program, which will be offered at the Blair School , where the district houses its International Baccalaureate classes.

The program will offer four levels of Armenian language classes, subject to minimum student enrollment. As it expands, the district plans to offer courses in Armenian literature, history and culture.

It will be limited to 250 students in its first year, the Friday news release says, and if it does not meet enrollment projections, the course offerings are subject to change.

The district currently offers similar dual language immersion programs in French, Mandarin and Spanish.

“I am thrilled with the Pasadena Unified School District’s vote of approval to establish an Armenian Dual Language Immersion program at Blair School, the first of its kind in the U.S.” said Arsine Shirvanian, a community member who advocated for the program.

A welcoming event and program will be planned when schools are able to reopen, once the coronavirus crisis is resolved.
