Armenia Has To Acknowledge Nkr Rights

ARMENIA HAS TO ACKNOWLEDGE NKR RIGHTS

The Heritage party issued a statement on the negotiations on the
Nagorno-Karabakh issue settlement. According to the statement, the
Heritage party agrees with the stances of the mediators and the
international organizations that the ways to a settlement should
be found by the societies, which are the sides of the conflict:
Nagorno-Karabakh, Armenia and Azerbaijan. And all the other countries,
which want to help the sides to find a settlement, may act only
as mediators.

The Heritage party considers impermissible the statements of several
countries on the territorial integrity of the Soviet Azerbaijan,
by which they encourage Azerbaijan for a war.

The party believes that it is undisputable that the essence of
the Nagorno-Karabakh issue is the international recognition of its
status, which stems from the international right of the people to
self-determine, which was not overlooked in the frameworks of the
OSCE Minks group.

The party is worried that the territorial factor is rendered a major
problem by the super-powers engaged in the political and economic
processes in the region, in order to satisfy the Azerbaijani needs.

The Heritage brings into everyone’s attention the international
document, according to which Nagorno-Karabakh was proclaimed an
independent side of the conflict in 1994, at OSCE Budapest summit. The
meetings and "conversations", which have been held so far, cannot be
considered a negotiation, unless Nagorno-Karabakh directly takes part
in them.

– The party reminds that Nagorno-Karabakh is competent in connection
with the territorial determination between Nagorno-Karabakh and
Azerbaijan, and Armenia may only assist to the settlement of the
questions aroused between NKR and Azerbaijan.

In order to create favorable conditions for the final settlement of
the conflict, for the prevention of the danger of the resumption of
military actions as well as with the aim to exclude any intervention
in the home questions, the Heritage party announces that Armenia
has to agree the content of the negotiations with the Armenians
from Artsakh. Armenia has to acknowledge the NKR legal rights
and responsibility and the main question in the negotiations with
Azerbaijan has to be the NKR independent status and its security.

In order to prevent any resumption of military actions, according to
the Heritage party, the best way is to call for the recognition of
the Karabakhi independence and the recognition itself. In addition,
the first step in this connection should be made by Armenia.

The Heritage party calls on all the Armenian political forces, as well
as the Nagorno-Karabakhi leadership to join this initiative being sure
that the steps proposed stem from the aims of the political-public
frameworks and are indispensable for the protection of the legal
rights of the Armenian people.

Armenia To Supply Energy To Turkey

ARMENIA TO SUPPLY ENERGY TO TURKEY

Armenia, who is always being underestimated by it’s oil rich neighbor
Azerbaijan is slowly growing it’s market share in supplying electricity
to Iran, Georgia and now Turkey, with which a rapprochement policy
has been in process.

Corresponding works are underway in Armenia towards exporting
energy to Turkey, Armenian Minister of Economy and Natural Resources
Armen Movsisyan told reporters today. He noted, however, that the
organization of the process of sale with Turkey was not that easy.

"We have rather rich experience. We have worked with Georgia and Iran,
but we have no experience of working with the corresponding system
of Turkey. It requires juxtaposition of technical parameters," the
Minister noted.

Armen Movsisyan reminded that we have signed a contract with a Turkish
commercial company, and any political preconditions are excluded.

According to the Minister of Energy of Armenia, the global
financial-economic crisis has not had an essential negative influence
on Armenia’s energy sector. "All the programs continue, there is
no intention to suspend those. On the contrary, we have started
implementing new projects," the Minister said.

ArmInfo. Iran will fully finance Tebriz-Eraskh oil pipeline at $250
mln with a condition that Armenia will later repay its participation,
Armenian Energy and Natural Resources Minister Armen Movsisyan told
journalists Wednesday.

He also added that such an arrangement has been recently made as
at present Armenia suffers financial problems and cannot pay its
share in the project, in which both countries are taking part on a
parity basis. The minister said that in the near future the working
group of Iranian specialists will arrive in Yerevan to discuss final
option of the technical and economic assessment of the project. ‘We
are doing everything possible to build the oil pipeline this year’,
– the minister said.

ARMENIAN NATIONAL CURRENCY SUFFERED NO SHARP FLUCTUATION DESPITE EXPECTATIONS: HSBC BANK ARMENIA CEO SAYS

Armenian national currency suffered no sharp fluctuation despite
expectations, Tim Slater, HSBC Bank Armenia CEO, said in an interview
with ArmInfo.

He said that since the devaluation in March, the national dram has been
within the Central Bank’s target zone for almost three months. Hence,
depositors will begin exchanging their savings into national currency
as trust in the Armenian dram is gradually regained. T. Slater sees
some prerequisites in this context. In addition, T. Slater is sure
that the interest rates for bank products will be considerably changed
as well. He thinks that the interests for dollar products will be
reduced whereas the high interests of dram products will be left
unchanged. The different between the interests of dram and dollar
products at HSBC Bank Armenia is 5%, T. Slater said.

On March 3 2009 the Central Bank of Armenia announced return
to floating rate policy. The same day the Armenian dram sharply
devaluated – 22%. The exchange rate sharply grew from 307 to 375
drams/1 US dollar. As of June 1, the exchange rate at retail market is
370 drams/1US dollar. Armenian CB forecasts 360-380 drams/1US dollar
exchange rate in average for 2009.

Information about the willingness of Azerbaijani soldier, who has
been kept in capture in Armenia, to receive the Armenian citizenship
is released purposefully, the Azerbaijani Defence Ministry reported.

"We have repeatedly faced Armenia’s tricky policy. This message can
be evaluated as a response to the fact that the Azerbaijani side has
recently voluntarily surrendered two Armenian soldiers," member of
the press service of Defense Ministry of Azerbaijan Teymur Abdullayev
told Trend News on Tuesday.

Azerbajani soldier Rafig Hasanov wished to stay in Armenia and to
receive the Armenian citizenship, Defense Minister of Armenia Seyran
Ohanian said.

Hasanov was captured by Armenians on Oct. 8, 2008.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988
when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan
lost all of Nagorno-Karabakh except for Shusha and Khojali in December
1991. In 1992-93, Armenian armed forces occupied Shusha, Khojali and 7
districts surrounding Nagorno-Karabakh. Azerbaijan and Armenia signed
a ceasefire in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group – Russia,
France, and the U.S. – are currently holding the peace negotiations.

The Armenian side tortures Hasanov and forces him to make such
statements.

Ohan Harutunyan Vadinagiyevich and Gevorq Tomosyan Serzhikovich,
soldiers of the training detachment of the 7th mountain rifle regiment
of the Armenian Defense Ministry 38862 military unit, complained
of unbearable conditions and tortures and said that they crossed
to Azerbaijan due to this reason. Three more Armenian soldiers,
Qrant Markosyan, Arthur Vartevyan and Alik Tevosyan were voluntarily
captured by Azerbaijani army in Agjaduz area of Agdam region.

Azerbaijan has two hostages in Armenia currently.

Boise Elementary School’s Student Show Celebrates Global Culture

BOISE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL’S STUDENT SHOW CELEBRATES GLOBAL CULTURE
By Dana Oland – [email protected]

June 1 2009

After studying other countries and cultures in a new international
curriculum, the school’s teachers and parents wanted to end with a
big finish.

"We knew the thing that could tie this whole experience and all of
our grade levels together would be music and arts," said principal
Deborah Watts.

So they turned to Vashti Summerville, who has two children in the
school and runs Open Door Children’s Theatre, a company that builds
community through the performing arts.

She created a show that brought more than just song, dance and music
to the table.

"I didn’t want to repeat just the facts. I wanted it to have more
meat. So I found stories of empowerment that show that kids all around
the world, whatever their circumstance, can accomplish great things."

She used the show, titled "I Have Greatness in Me," to teach more
about the cultures the kids had been studying.

"The arts can really help cement what the kids learn in classes,"
Watts said.

The show and the program that inspired it are part of two trends in
schools today:

â~@¢ Development of focused curriculum programs that offer more
choices for parents.

â~@¢ Pursuit by parents and teachers of ways to supplement arts
education programs that are diminishing as budget cuts become more
common.

The Longfellow parent / teacher organization used some of its existing
funds as well as grant money from the Idaho Commission on the Arts
to pay Summerville for her script and direction, said Tani Theiler,
president of the PTO.

IT WAS AN EXTRAVAGANZA

The stage brimmed with 230 kids, a sea of colorful T-shirts that
represent each of the countries they studied – Australia, China,
Armenia, Brazil, Kenya, Canada, United States and Switzerland –
through all of their subjects from math to spelling to technology.

It took them nearly 10 months to prepare for the
performance. Summerville wrote the script in September, music teacher
Lisa Allen began teaching the songs in the fall and group rehearsals
started in January.

The long, hard work has paid off, even for the kids who didn’t want
to put in the effort to begin with, Allen said.

"Even the ones who were complaining all the time are getting
excited. Music is the universal language. It ties language, poetry,
movement, dancing, art and social studies together. As educators,
we talk about various learning styles. If understanding doesn’t come
in the classroom, maybe it will in an experience like this," she said.

Fourth-grader Nikita Schwartz, 10, liked the interactivity.

"A lot of kids learn more with hands-on projects. This is kind of
like one of them," Nikita said.

What’s more, the kids learned some things in the show they didn’t
learn in class.

"It (the show) expands your information about the countries," said
Hans Theiler III, 10. "I like the Switzerland part. That’s where
my dad came from. It taught me some new stuff. I didn’t know that
Switzerland never had a war. That’s something I learned."

They sang in different languages and learned about struggles that
other kids grew up with.

"The goal of the international program is to show the kids how they
fit in the global scheme of things, and also to realize that we’re
really a lot more similar than we are different from other cultures,"
Summerville said.

Longfellow kids learned about:

â~@¢ Brazilian soccer great Pel, who won his first World Cup before
graduating high school.

â~@¢ Chinese artist Wang Yani, who began painting dazzling monkeys
when she was 3.

â~@¢ Armenian filmmaker Gor Baghdasaryan, who won the first UNICEF
One-Minute Video Junior Award for his film "Children Must Live Without
War" when he was 14.

"I liked the Armenia story because it taught me about how hard war
is on children, and how much that country has improved," Nikita said.

Students from Pierce Park Elementary, which also has the international
program, made up the dress-rehearsal audience. They ended up singing
along.

FOCUS SCHOOLS ARE STILL AN EXPERIMENT

These kinds of programs show the benefit of offering more options
for parents who are looking for a deeper educational experience for
their kids, said Don Coberly, who oversees curriculum for the district.

Other district schools with focused curriculum include Whittier
and Whitney, where students learn half the day in English and the
other half in Spanish, and Liberty Elementary, which has adopted a
Montessori approach.

"It’s the concept that the more options parents have, the happier
they will be," Coberly said.

Each of these focuses has boosted enrollment at the schools. Longfellow
has a waiting list.

Since Longfellow started its focus, students and parents have been
incredibly engaged, said Hallie Davidson, whose daughter Stella is
in the school.

"Everyone is really supporting this. She loves all this. We’ve been
singing the songs at home and she talks about what she’s learned all
the time," Davidson said. "I would love to see more art and music
integrated into what we do."
