/PanARMENIAN.Net/ Every year the international conference on pets’
welfare takes place on the Animal Welfare International Day since
1996 in European cities. The 4th of October is the Animal Welfare
International Day. Each year since 1996 the International Companion
Animal Welfare Conference is held in which the largest animal welfare
international organisations and representatives of local organisations
from almost 50 countries around the world come together.

This year’s conference will be held from October 7 to 9 in Budapest
(Hungary) and Armenia for the first time will participate in the
conference.

Given the urgency of the problem of stray dogs in Armenia, some
international organizations have suggested to the Yerevan municipality
to co-operate in developing and implementing a comprehensive program
to control the number of stray dogs.

The conference is the major event and creates a platform for
representatives of different countries to work together, share
knowledge and experiences, establish international and regional
cooperation.

11th Conference will pay a special attention to animal welfare, and
the issues of animals’ reproduction control and sterilization. Topics
include public health and safety as well as implementation of the
education programs, publicity, and promotion of legislation.

Armenia is the only country of the Council of Europe which never took
part in Conference. Armenia has an opportunity on participation at
this year’s Conference.

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ Meeting Armenia’s President with representatives
Armenian communities was very important, Oscar Tatosyan , chairman
of the Eastern Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church stated,
commenting on the Los Angeles meeting of Serzh Sargsyan with the
U.S. Armenian Diaspora. Serzh Sargsyan listened to the opinions of
Diaspora representatives and shared their concerns.

"In my opinion, the general concern over the Armenian-Turkish
Protocols is bit overblown," Oscar Tatosyan said. According to him,
before reading the Protocols, people should put their emotions aside.

"Much of the Diaspora is silent, it means they support the initiative
of Serzh Sargsyan," Oscar Tatosyan said, stressing that the Diaspora
should openly support the Armenian authorities.

Abu Dhabi: Armenia has about seven million "ambassadors" all over the
world and more than 4,500 of them have made the UAE their second home,
the country’s envoy to the UAE told Gulf News. "Only three million
Armenians are living in Armenia but about seven million people are
living all over the world," Vahagn Melikan said on the sidelines of
Armenian National Day celebrations in Abu Dhabi recently. He said many
of the Armenians who had settled in Arab countries such as Lebanon,
Syria and Egypt had migrated to the UAE.

"They are the majority in the community here – more than 3,000.
Armenians migrated from the home country are more than 1,000," he
explained. The UAE has become a favourite tourist destination for
Armenians as more than 35,000 Armenians visited the country in 2008,
Melikan said. A community member said Armenians’ ability to learn new
languages and culture has helped the community in the UAE.

Gagik Harutyunyan: Armenia Faces Serious Challenge

GAGIK HARUTYUNYAN: ARMENIA FACES SERIOUS CHALLENGE

/PanARMENIAN.Net/
30.09.2009 19:55 GMT+04:00

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ Should all countries follow protocols they signed,
we’d live in absolute peace right now, Head of Noravank Scientific
Research Center Gagik Harutyunyan told a news conference in
Yerevan. According to him, Protocols must not be fetishized. "Much
could alter after they’ve been signed, as history shows," Gagik
Harutyunyan said, citing 1975 Helsinki agreement as an example.

On the positive side, he noted that the Protocols will stimulate RA
economy development, and cause a rift in Azeri -Turkish relations.

"By normalizing ties with Armenia, Turkey seeks to shed the image
of a criminal," Head of Noravank Center said, accusing Turkey of the
Genocide of Armenians and Pontian Greeks.

According to him, Armenia is currently at the crossroads: on one hand,
it could abandon negotiations, which is an easy way; on the other hand,
Armenia could agree to continue talks and use its recourses to meet
competition with Turkey. "Yerevan chose the second way and now faces
a serious challenge," Gagik Harutyunyan noted.
