YEREVAN, AUGUST 16, ARMENPRESS. Minister of Defense of Armenia Suren Papikyan had a meeting with the Minister of Defense of Russia Sergey Shoygu within the framework of the Moscow Conference on International Security, RIA Novosti reports.

Issues related to the activities of the Russian peacekeeping forces in Nagorno Karabakh were discussed, among other issues.

During the meeting the Russian Defense Minister said: “We have issues to discuss, among them are traditional issues related to our military-technical and military cooperation. Of course there are also issues related to our peacekeeping contingent which is carrying out its objectives in Nagorno Karabakh. As before, we are sure, as well as you, that the main stabilizing factor is the ceasefire regime along the entire length of the line of contact.”

Shoygu thanked Papikyan for participation in the opening of the Army 2022 International Military-Industrial Exhibition and the International Army Games 2022 tournament, as well as the Moscow Conference on International Security.

In turn, Armenian Minister of Defense Suren Papikyan said that the August 16 meeting with Shoygu is already their second meeting this year, which shows the high level of the Armenian-Russian collegial bilateral partnership.

“This meeting is very important for us. We highly appreciate the level of the Armenian-Russian parternship, as well as the role of the Russian presence in South Caucasus,” Papikyan said.

AW: ANC of Illinois highlights recent Azerbaijani attacks on Artsakh in meetings with elected officials

Pictured left to right during their meeting are Renee Devedjian, Rep. Brad Schneider and Vartan Seferian

The Armenian National Committee (ANC) of Illinois recently concluded four meetings with appropriate staff members to discuss many topics that affect our homeland, continuing its Representative Meeting Initiative that began last December. The meetings were held directly with representatives or staffers from the following offices: Senator Dick Durbin and Rep. Brad Schneider of the 10th district, Rep. Cheri Bustos of the 17th district and Rep. Robin Kelly of the 2nd district.

The ANC of Illinois began its series of meetings on August 3, meeting with Congresswoman Bustos’ staffer Brian Belongia. ANC of Illinois member Kenneth Hachikian led the meeting. The following day, constituents of the 10th district Renee Devedjian and Vartan Seferian held an in-person meeting with Rep. Schneider at his office.

On August 8, Hachikian met virtually with staff member Brandon Difulvio of Congresswoman Kelly’s office. The final meeting was held via Zoom with Senator Durbin’s foreign policy/defense staffer Corey Cowen. While many of these meetings did not require constituents, the ANC of Illinois is always looking for Armenians wanting to engage in helping lobby for our homeland.

Discussions included support around:

  • H.R. 7555 – Armenian Genocide Education Act
  • H.R. 240 – Calling on Azerbaijan to immediately release all prisoners of war and captured civilians
  • Aid to Artsakh (Nagorno Karabakh) – $50M to Artsakh as part of the FY2023 Foreign Aid Bill
  • Aid to Armenia – $100 million to Armenia as part of the FY2023 Foreign Aid Bill
  • Azerbaijan – Removing the waiver authority under section 907 of the Freedom Support Act, zeroing out FMF and IMETaid to Azerbaijan
    • Including the following language in the body of the Act: No funds appropriated or otherwise made available under this Act may be provided to the government of Azerbaijan for US military or security programs.

While scheduling the meetings and during the actual meetings, the ANC of Illinois sent out an email with an attached memo from the ANCA that highlighted the most recent attack by Azerbaijan on the innocent people of Artsakh that killed two and injured 19. The above legislative actions were stressed.

The responses from all of the representatives were positive, but now we have to see what type of action they take to back up their words. These types of meetings are always beneficial to our cause as we must continue to be vigilant and do what we can to support our brothers and sisters in our homeland by attempting to protect our sovereignty and working for justice. The ANC of Illinois is currently working on scheduling meetings with Bill Foster Il-11, Sean Casten Il-6, Lauren Underwood Il-14, and Mike Quigley IL-5. While we did not meet with Jan Schakowsky Il-9 or Raja Krishnamoorthi Il-8, they have always been friends and both tweeted about the situation in Artsakh.

We are encouraging more constituents to assist the ANC of Illinois in these meetings. If you’d like to participate, email [email protected].

The Armenian National Committee of America Eastern Region is part of the largest and most influential Armenian American grassroots organization, the ANCA. Working in coordination with the ANCA in Washington, DC, and a network of chapters and supporters throughout the Eastern United States, the ANCA-ER actively advances the concerns of the Armenian American community on a broad range of issues.

Armenia’s EasyDMARC secures $2.3 million in seed round, cybercriminals weep

Aug 9 2022

Corporate email infrastructures are often the first port of call for cybercriminals. Armenia’s EasyDMARC is making that port all the harder to reach.

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.” If he were still with us today, I’d wager that Mr. Dickens would have included ‘email’ somewhere in the famous words that follow this opening paragraph found in ‘A Tale of Two Cities’.

For all the benefits ‘le courriel’ offers, it’s also the bedrock of cybercriminal activity. While only 2.9% of employees may actually click on a phishing link, when you consider the 300+ billion emails sent daily, that’s still a staggering statistic.

Aiming to stay one step ahead of these bad actors is Armenian-founded EasyDMARC, which has raised $2.3 million in a seed funding round led by the CEE, CIS, and Baltics region specialist Acrobator Ventures. The fresh filling of the inbox is expected to aid the company in expanding its global reach as it continues to develop more headache-inducing problems for cyber criminals and better sleeping patterns for IT managers.

At its core, EasyDMARC is the first line of defense for corporate email infrastructures. The cloud-based system specifically monitors any and all email-based threats including phishing, spoofing, and spam, and puts a halt to any financial, data, and ultimately, customer loss.

Like many a startup, EasyDMARC’s genesis can be found in personal experience. While working as an information security consultant back in 2016, Co-founder and CEO Gerasim Hovhannisyan, was brought in to investigate a severe email phishing attack that resulted in a financial fleecing of his client. While a number of DMARC protocol solutions were readily available, London’s Red Sift, specifically its OnDMARC product, for example, Hovhannisyan concluded they were all a bit too complex for the “average” business to implement.

And thus, the Easy in EasyDMARC.

According to the company, since 2017 it has prevented over 82 million cybersecurity attacks, is currently analysing more than 9 billion data points per month, and is trusted by the likes of Ferrari, Panasonic, the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, SimilarWeb, and 30,000+ other institutions in over 130 countries around the globe.

“Cyberattacks have an increasing toll on our lives privately, commercially, and at the government level,” commented Acrobator Ventures’ Joachim Laqueur. “With over 300 billion emails sent every day, email is the most exposed security lapse. DMARC puts a layer of security in place but is hard to implement well. Growing at almost 3x the market growth rate, this team from Armenia is doing something special.”

In addition to Acrobator Ventures lead, EasyDMARC’s $2.3 million seed round saw the participation of Formula VC. The company is also backed by Crosspring at the pre-seed level.

EU Calls ‘immediate Cessation Of Hostilities’ As Armenia-Azerbaijan Clashes Reignite

The European Union (EU) on Wednesday called for an “immediate cessation of hostilities” after clashes reignited between Azerbaijan and Armenia over the disputed mountainous region of Nagorno-Karabakh. EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell’s spokesperson said in a statement, “It is essential to de-escalate, fully respect the ceasefire and return to the negotiating table to seek negotiated solutions.”

“The European Union calls for an immediate cessation of the hostilities which have broken out between Azerbaijani and Armenian forces around the Lachin corridor and other places along the Line of Contact. Regrettably, these clashes already led to loss of life and injuries,” the statement also read.

The disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh has been a flashpoint for about 30 years between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Nagorno-Karabakh lies within Azerbaijan but has been controlled by ethnic Armenian forces since the end of a war in 1994. In September 2020, Azerbaijan and Armenian forces fought a war over the mountainous region. At the time, Azerbaijan won back a part of the territory. Subsequently, a Russia-brokered ceasefire was also signed.

However, violence flared in recent days, and both sides have accused each other of breaching the ceasefire. On Wednesday, Azerbaijan’s Defence Ministry said that Armenia committed an act of sabotage and killed one of its soldiers breaching the agreement. Baku also said that it had to fight Armenia’s attempt to capture a hill in the disputed zone. It further demanded the disarmament of “illegal Armenian formations”.

The United States expressed deep concern over reports of intensive fighting around the Nagorno-Karabakh region. In a statement, US State Department spokesperson Ned Price said, “The United States is deeply concerned by and closely following reports of intensive fighting around Nagorno-Karabakh, including casualties and the loss of life.  We urge immediate steps to reduce tensions and avoid further escalation.”

“The recent increase in tensions underscores the need for a negotiated, comprehensive, and sustainable settlement of all remaining issues related to or resulting from the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict,” he added.

Meanwhile, Russia accused the Azerbaijani Armed Forces of breaching the ceasefire in the mountainous zone of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. In the report on the activities of Russian peacekeepers in the separatist region, the Russian Defence Ministry said that Azerbaijan’s forces violated the ceasefire in the area of the height of Sarybaba. Earlier, clashes were reported between Armenia and Azerbaijan leaving at least three soldiers dead as the decades-old conflict reignited.

The Armenian government has questions to Russia

India – Aug 4 2022

The events in Nagorno-Karabakh raised a number of questions from the Armenian public about the Russian military contingent in the region.

According to News.am, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan called the presence of Russian peacekeepers a key factor in ensuring the security of Karabakh Armenians.

“But a number of events that have taken place in Nagorno-Karabakh since November 2020, including the events of recent days, have raised questions from the Armenian public about the content and nature of the peacekeeping operation in Nagorno-Karabakh” , Pashinyan said.

He stressed that it is becoming extremely necessary to adjust the details of the “peacekeeping operation”; in Nagorno-Karabakh.

“And the need was there from the very beginning. But Azerbaijan prevented this by refusing to sign the mandate of the peacekeeping contingent, while Armenia did. We expect that this mandate, signed in a bilateral format, will operate in full,” Nikol Pashinyan said.

He said that for the full implementation of the “peacekeeping mandate” the signatures of Yerevan and Moscow are enough. And he proposed to take measures for the international approval of this mandate or to give “peacekeepers” “a broad international mandate.”

Recall that on Wednesday evening the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan confirmed an offensive operation in the Nagorno-Karabakh region, as a result of which the troops were able to take several heights.

According to ” Ministry of Defense” of the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, Azerbaijani units “used attack drones, as a result of which one soldier was mortally wounded.” Later, eight more were reported injured there.

Vahan Kerobyan: Belarusian products are competitive in Armenian market

Belarus, Aug 5 2022

YEREVAN, 5 August (BelTA) – Belarusian products are competitive in the Armenian market and are represented in various segments, Armenian Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan told BelTA.

“I have a very reverent attitude towards Belarus. I lived there myself for some time. I know what quality Belarusian products are, and, of course, we see many products from Belarus in our supermarkets,” Vahan Kerobyan said.

According to him, the products are competitive in the Armenian market and are present in different segments. “Of course, we, including me as a minister, who is also responsible for the integration processes in the EAEU, welcome cooperation projects between our companies in every possible way. Azerbaijan carried out retaliatory special operation Retribution in the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR), a message posted on the website of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense said.

As a result of the special operation, the Azerbaijani army took control of a number of dominant heights, including Girkhgyz and Sarybaba.

“Currently, our units are conducting engineering work on the arrangement of new positions and the construction of access roads,” the Ministry of Defense said.

The Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan demands the complete disarmament of the army of the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) and the withdrawal of troops from those territories.

Two servicemen were killed and 14 more were injured in the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic as a result of an attack conducted by the forces of Azerbaijan, the Artsakh Defense Army (another second name of the NKR — ed.) said.

It was reported that two contractees were killed as the army of Azerbaijan attacked military positions of the army of Nagorno-Karabakh.

“Measures are being taken in cooperation with the command of the Russian troops carrying out a peacekeeping mission to stabilize the situation in the Republic of Artsakh. As of 18:00 (17:00 Moscow time), the operational and tactical situation was relatively stable,” the message said.

On August 2, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that Azerbaijan violated the ceasefire in Karabakh three times in one day. As a result of the shelling, one NKR serviceman was injured, later the number of victims increased to seven.

Baku announced that a serviceman of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces was killed as a result of the attack from Armenian positions in Karabakh. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic blamed the military and political leadership of Armenia.

Opposition MP: No limit to ‘rampant illegalities’ committed by current authorities

Panorama

Armenia – Aug 3 2022

Lawyer Aram Vardevanyan, an MP from the opposition Hayastan bloc, has condemned the rearrest of opposition activist Avetik Chalabyan ordered by judge Mnatsakan Martirosyan on Wednesday.

Vardevanyan recalled that Martirosyan sentenced then oppositionist Nikol Pashinyan to 7 years in prison back in 2010. Pashinyan and his supporters called the judge “puppet”, “executioner”, “Matso”, etc.

“Years later, this man and his team come to power, and the same “judge” not only remains in office, but also aspires to become the court chairman, thus arresting everyone,” Vardevanyan wrote on Facebook.

The deputy also highlighted that film producer Armen Grigoryan died during his trial presided over by Martirosyan on 15 July.

“Today, the prosecutor dealing with Avetik Chalabyan’s case did not object to another measure of restraint, but the “judge” ordered his arrest,” Vardevanyan stressed.

“In a similar situation, when a person is released from custody, the new Criminal Procedure Code doesn’t allow rearrest without new circumstances having emerged, but this was also ignored. In fact, there is no limit to the rampant illegalities committed by the current authorities,” he said.
