Poaching And Revelry In Khosrov Forest Reserve

POACHING AND REVELRY IN KHOSROV FOREST RESERVE

06:09 pm | Today | Social

On September 18, members of “Khosrov Reserve” civil initiative visited
Khosrov reserve to discover in Kakavaberd section of the forest
traces of fire, domestic waste, empty bottles, dismembered corpses of
animals. In particular, they found remainders of slaughtered rabbit,
European brown bear, Bezoar goat and there was unbearable stench in
the area.

Young activists say they have detected traces of poachers. They shot
what they saw with photo and video cameras and on behalf of “Khosrov
Forest” civic initiative disseminated a press release supporting it
with photos and video report. The video clearly shows that illegal
hunting of animals registered in Armenia’s Red Book has occurred which,
they say, is a criminally prosecute act.

“As a matter of fact, the head of the Kakavaberd sector of Khosrov
reserve has failed to duly implement his duties,” the civil initiative
said in the press release.

“The video also shows that the “guests” felt like at home, spent there
much time with silent consent of the reserve administration, or even,
it’s not excluded, with immediate participation of the administration
and permit of the Nature Protection Ministry.”

Late in July, Minister Aram Harutyunyan announced that that nobody can
get into the reserves without his permission. Concerning the illegal
building be demounted otherwise he promised to sue the Hovazadzor
Ltd in charge of the construction.

“Khosrov Reserve” civil initiative notes with regret that the building
still stands on its place.

Armenian National Archive Will Publish Digitized Materials On Armeni

ARMENIAN NATIONAL ARCHIVE WILL PUBLISH DIGITIZED MATERIALS ON ARMENIAN GENOCIDE IN INTERNET

ARMENPRESS
25 September, 2012
YEREVAN

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 25, ARMENPRESS: The Armenian National Archive
carries out digitalization of the Archive’s documents and creation
of an electronic database. In 2013 the administration of the Archive
intends to make the important Armenian Genocide-related documents
available in the Internet. To get acquainted with the digitalization
works process and the programs implemented by the National Archive
of Armenia, Armenpress’s correspondent interviewed the Director of
the Armenian National Archive Amatuni Virabyan.

– In what stage the digitalization works of the National Archive are
and how many materials have been digitized by now?

– By the result of the first semester of the year 2012 54,299 pages of
documents have been digitized. In general, 112,669 pages of documents
have been digitized by now. By the way, after the digitalization some
documents, related to the Armenian Genocide and having propagandistic
importance, will be published in the Internet. Due to the powerful
equipment, obtained in 2011, the process of documents’ digitalization
has become more efficient. 50,370 pages of documents have been
digitized. For comparison, I would like to mention that by 2010 only
8,000 pages of documents in paper carrier had been digitized.

– How does the digitalization process of the films and photos go?

– Concerning the cinema-, photo-, phono-documents, due to the
digitalization equipment, obtained from France, we have already
digitized 2,013 documentaries. The digitalization process of the
Armenian production feature films is carried out according to the
agreement signed with Armenfilm Movie Studio, in the framework of
which 415 movies will be digitized. The National Archive of Armenia
intends to digitize the Armenian movies of the Soviet time, which
are currently preserved in Mosfilm Film Studio. At present we can
announce that all the issues of the Soviet Armenia documentaries
of 1940-1982 have been digitized. 3,742 photo storage units have
been digitized by now, which were on glass base. The process is very
laborious and demands professional skills. 1,519 phono-documents have
been digitized, including the recordings of the National Assembly
sessions of 1989-1997. Every year the National Archive of Armenia is
supplemented with new documents, which conditions the continuation
of the documents’ digitalization process.

– What programs do you plan to implement next year?

– In 2013 it is intended to establish the optimization program of the
territorial subdivisions of the Archive and begin its implementation,
as well as establish an internal computer network between the Archive
and the territorial subdivisions, publish the Archive’s documents
related to the Armenian Genocide dated to its 100th anniversary,
translate them into foreign languages and continue the digitalization
process.

– What problems does the Armenian National Archive have?

– One of the problems of the National Archive, demanding urgent
settlement, is the upgrading of the computer equipment, installation
of ventilation system in the archive depositories of the territorial
subdivisions, implementation of waterproofing works in the underground
archive depositories and other technical upgrades.

Memorial Of Armenian Genocide Will Be Placed In New-York

MEMORIAL OF ARMENIAN GENOCIDE WILL BE PLACED IN NEW-YORK

While there had been previous reservations, at the end of last week
Armenian Genocide Memorial Monument Committee co-chair Ralph Enokian
was contacted by Mayor Lou Rosamilia and informed that the Armenian
Heritage Memorial would be placed on the previously consecrated
ground north of the Vietnam Memorial. The memorial will be created
and installed by Grethen-Cahringer Memorials of Lansingburgh.

Troyrecord.com writes about this.

The decision comes after years of tension between the city and the
committee.

“There have been years of work to make this memorial a reality,”
said county legislator Tutunjian, who represents the city of Troy on
the legislature.

The memorial effort was conceived, and has been spear-headed by,
the Knights and Daughters of Vartan, a fraternal Armenian service
organization. They formed the Armenian Genocide Memorial Monument
Committee in 2005, which has been working to place a memorial in the
city’s vicinity, stating that Troy and its environs have been the
locale of the largest Armenian community in the region.

The memorial will reflect the positive contributions their community
has made to Troy and the capital region, and would serve to honor
victims of the Armenian Genocide, as well as those of all genocides.

That extermination, resulting in 1 to 1.5 million Armenian deaths,
caused the growth of the present day Armenian diaspora community in
America, including that now residing in and around Troy.

Shortly after the committee undertook the memorial project seven
years ago, the Troy City Council passed a resolution authorizing the
monument, but did not specify an intended site. Yet the committee
has hoped the $15,000 monument would find a home in Riverfront Park,
and were prepared to place the memorial on the northernmost end
of the park several years ago. However, then-Mayor Tutunjian urged
them to wait, so as to more fully incorporate the memorial as part
of a $1.75 million state grant redevelopment project targeting the
park. This delay caused tension between the group and the city,
and the committee began contemplating other local parks.

“We looked at Frear Park, Beman Park” and others, said Rafi Topalian,
a committee member. Those parks, due to a variety of reasons, were
found unfitting by the committee.

In 2010, the committee’s hopes for the memorial by the river grew with
the inclusion of the monument in the preliminary plans for Riverfront
Park, compiled in September of that year. Further strengthening
those hopes was the monument’s inclusion in the master plan and first
phase, compiled in March of last year, which was then cemented when
the mayor at the time, Harry Tutunjian-who is an Armenian-American
himself-sent an August letter giving the city administration’s word
that the memorial would find a place in the northern end of the park.

In the community’s eyes, the letter guaranteed the monument would be
placed in Riverfront and thus would be located in the heart of downtown
and seen by the thousands that pass through the park during the various
concerts and major city events held there. With this understanding,
last December the Genocide Memorial Committee organized a ground
ceremony that consecrated the ground where the monument will be placed.

In July, however, the new city administration under Mayor Lou
Rosamilia, who attended the consecration ceremony, met with Armenian
community leaders and put forth the possibility of moving the monument
to Frear Park near the Oakwood neighborhood. The Armenian community
was not pleased.

“We didn’t take that too well,” Topalian said, explaining that the
ground had already been consecrated, and that the committee considered
the agreement with the previous administration “a contract” with
the city.

Since early in the 20th century, there has been a substantial Armenian
community in the Troy and the surrounding communities, a result of
Armenians refugees fleeing organized killings during the Armenian
Genocide. The Armenians that came to Troy in that diaspora founded the
second Armenian Church in America, became very active in the community,
and so inundated a length of road across the river in Watervliet that
it became known as Little Armenia for a time.

City officials and committee members will meet tonight as scheduled.

The sociologist Aharon Adibekyan is not at all an authority for
Aram Manukyan, Secretary of the Armenian National Congress (ANC)
parliamentary group.

“He says what he is ordered to. So we have no comments. You are well
aware of his reputation,” Manukyan told Tert.am.

Specifically, Chairman of the People’s Party Tigran Karapetyan is
highly critical of Aharon Adibekyan, calling him a “liar.”

At his meeting with journalists on Monday, Adibekyan presented the
results of polls which involved 1,650 voters in all Armenian regions.

According to the results, 30.4% of the respondents see Gagik Tsarukyan,
Chairman of the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP), as a presidential
candidate in the 2013 presidential election.

Also, 10.1% of the respondents see Armenia’s second president Robert
Kocharyan, 8.7% Chairman of the Heritage party Raffi Hovhannisyan and
4% Chairman of the opposition bloc Armenian National Congress (ANC).

As to when Mr Ter-Petrosyan can be expected to nominate for presidency,
Manukuyan said, “Within the terms set by law.”

As regards PAP members’ opinion on the poll, Elinar Vardanyan, a PAP
parliamentary group member, said she mistrusts public opinion polls.

“However, they sometimes reflect the real situation,” she added.

President Serzh Sargsyan received the well-known French businessman
working in the area of telecommunications Serzh Tchuruk and a group
of leading French entrepreneurs, Presidnet’s Press Office reports.

The President of Armenia welcomed visit of the delegation to our
country and underscored that Armenia and France have warm, friendly
and special relations. According to Serzh Sargsyan, the centuries-long
Armenian-French amity is conditioned by the close historical relations
and by the presence of the Armenian-French community which serves
a unique bridge between the two nations. In the President’s words,
Armenians all over the world are fond of France, rich French culture
and system of values.

Serzh Sargsyan noted that in the last twenty years that passed after
the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and France,
the bilateral relations have registered considerable progress and
Armenia is keenly interested in deepening them further and in expanding
cooperation with France in every area.

Serzh Tchuruk stressed that he and his friends, who have arrived to
Armenia on a get-to-know visit and have already familiarized with
the history and culture of the Armenian people, came for that exact
reason. According to the renowned French businessman, in the framework
of the visit they want to familiarize with the Armenian economy,
investment climate and ongoing programs, to discuss at the meetings
the possibilities of establishing new French enterprises and making
new investments, contributing thus to the expansion and deepening of
the bilateral trade and economic relations.

President Sargsyan presented to the French entrepreneurs priorities
of our economy, ongoing and perspective programs, implemented reforms
and successfully developing cooperation between Armenia and EU.
