AUSTRALIAN OFFICIAL URGES ALL NATIONS TO SUPPORT NKR RIGHT TO SELF DETERMINATION

November 16, 2012 – 17:38 AMT

PanARMENIAN.Net – Australia’s New South Wales Legislative Council
member Frederick Nile has expressed readiness to continue his support
for the Nagorno Karabakh Republic, reported the Armenian National
Committee of Australia.

“I give my firm support to the right to self-determination for the
Republic of Nagorno Karabakh and call upon all nations to uphold this
basic human right. Our actions today can prevent another Genocide of
Armenians,” Rev. Nile said in a statement last night.

The Legislative Council of the New South Wales Parliament adopted
a resolution recognizing the Republic of Nagorno Karabakh and the
right to self-determination of its Armenian people, who declared
independence from an oppressive Azerbaijan 20 years ago.

The motion, which was unanimously adopted Oct 25, comes after many
months of advocacy from the ANC Australia. It was introduced to the
Chamber by the Hon. Marie Ficarra MLC, who was been a long-standing
supporter of Armenian issues.

The motion acknowledges the 20th anniversary of independence of the
Nagorno Karabakh Republic, it supports the right to self-determination
of its people, and it “calls on the Commonwealth Government [of
Australia] to officially recognize the independence of Nagorno
Karabakh and strengthen Australia’s relationship with the Nagorno
Karabakh and its citizens”.

Armenia’s Informal Economy Is Over 35 Percent: Imf

ARMENIA’S INFORMAL ECONOMY IS OVER 35 PERCENT: IMF

YEREVAN, November 16. / ARKA /. Armenia’s informal economy is more
than 35% of its GDP, according to a supplement to an IMF report called
“Regional Economic Outlook: the Caucasus and Central Asia.” The size
of the informal economy, according to the IMF, across this region is
more than 75%.

The term ‘informal economy’ is used to refer to economic activities
which are not conducted through legally registered bodies and are
not reported to tax and social security authorities. It is often
described as informal or unorganized sector.

According to IMF report, the main indicators used to assess the
seize of informal economies in these countries are the burden of
taxes and social insurance, labor market inflexibility factors,
the quality of institutions, the burden of regulation of financial
markets and product markets. The report believes that the impact of
tax burden is particularly high in Armenia and Georgia – about 10%
of the total size of the informal economy.

The influence of rigid labor markets is also high in Armenia and
Azerbaijan -about 15% of the total size of the informal economy. The
influence of institutional quality factor that significantly affects
the competitiveness of economy and economic growth are behind a 50%
informal economy in Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan.

The IMF recommends that these countries reduce the share of the
informal economy through improvement of business regulation system,
reforming labor market institutions, reducing the tax burden and
securing workers of informal sector with access to advanced training.

YEREVAN. – The Government of Armenia decided to implement the project
of creating a new layer of forest around LakeSevan, and by way of
planting new trees in a 1,100-hectare area. The respective decision
was adopted during Thursday’s Cabinet session.

The new forest will be created around the SevanNational Park and
nearby communities.

The plan, which the Nature Protection Ministry has designed, notes that
Gegharkunik Region-where this project will be carried out-is one of
Armenia’s least-forest-covered regions, with a mere 3 percent forests.

This project envisions the planting of 2-3-year-old vegetable seed
trees and other types of trees and shrubs. In the case of favorable
conditions, high-value fruit-bearing forest trees are expected to be
planted as well.

Between 2014 and 2023, the funding for this program is envisioned
to be provided by charitable foundations and other international
organizations.

PLEDGES FOR GENOCIDE RECOGNITION NO LONGER ENOUGH FOR US – ARMENIAN MP

YEREVAN. – The Armenian-French relations are very important for
Armenia, ruling Republican Party MP Karine Achemyan said during a
press conference on Friday.

In her words, President Serzh Sargsyan’s visit to France was important
because he met not solely with his French counterpart, but, also,
with that country’s PM and National Assembly Speaker. “And in Lyon,
the President met with the Armenian community. Overall, the visit
was important both in terms of economic and cultural aspects,”
Achemyan added.

“In terms of France’s recognition of the [Armenian] Genocide, it
will be much better for us if the [French-] Armenian community and
our diplomats work very well and form good relations, since promises
no longer satisfy us,” Karine Achemyan.

In response to the query as to why the two presidents did not discuss
the French bill on criminalizing genocide denial, the MP said relations
with the newly elected president of France are at the formation phase
and this was the first meeting between the two leaders.

Oughtasar : les petroglyphes d’Armenie

par Maro Siranosian

Haytoug, 06.12.2011

a l’heure actuelle.

(Jordi Savall).

The process of popularization of Artsakh’s Tigranakert not easy

Hamlet Petrosyan: The process of popularization of Artsakh’s
Tigranakert not easy
17:09 16.11.2012

‘$150 thousand is needed annually for archeological works at Artsakh’s
Tigranakert. We have never had the sum, but we stubbornly continue the
excavations,’ says Hamlet Petrosyan, Head of the Tigranakert
archeological expedition group of the Institute of Archaeology and
Ethnography at the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia.

The expedition in Artaskah’s Tigranakert is not only a process
targeted at exploring and popularizing our cultural heritage, but also
an important factor to prove the fact of being the master of that
legacy. Hamlet Petrosyan says the fact of Tigranakert’s being located
on the territory of unrecognized Artsakh creates obstacles on the way
of its internationalization and popularization, at the same time
making the process more interesting.

An archeological museum was opened in Panahi castle on the Territory
of Tigranakert in 2010, and the number of people visiting it in the
course of 2.5 years has exceeded 45 thousand. For comparison, about 40
thousand people visit the Armenian History Museum annually.

`This number means something, especially considering that Azerbaijan
and a number of other countries are constantly urging their citizens
not to visit Nagorno Karabakh, Hamlet Petrosyan said. Nevertheless,
according to him, the process of popularization is not easy and the
obstacles are different.

The first Italian scientific conference on archeology was held in
Florence October 23-30. Hamlet Petrosyan presented an extensive report
on `The monument and the society: Artsakh’s Tigranakert.’ A number of
reports on monuments situated in conflicts zones were also presented.

According to Petrosyan, the conference not only underlined the
importance of such expeditions, but also suggested to organize a
scientific conference dedicated only to monuments in conflict zones
and border regions.

Armenian participant of Voice of Germany is Ivan Aivazovsky’s descendant

NOVEMBER 16, 23:43

Mari Harutyunyan is one of two Armenian participants of the Voice of
Germany. Together with Iveta Mukuchyan, Mari overcame the blind
audition and was included in Xavier’s team. NEWS.am STYLE contacted
Mari to learn more about her participation in a popular song contest.

Mari, please tell abut yourself. Where were you born? Where did your
ancestors come from?

I am Mari, I am 19 years old and I love to sing and dance. I like
Latin dances like salsa but I also dance in an Armenian folklore group
called `Hrashq’. Furthermore I sing in the church choir of our
Armenian community in Nuremberg where I live. I started singing when I
was 9 years old and had a couple of little gigs here and there for
example on commemoration ceremonies for Hrant Dink or in little clubs.

I was born in Schwerin, a city in Northern Germany, but my parents
come from Armenia. One thing I am very proud of is that I am related
to the famous painter Ivan Aivazovsky. He was my great grandfather.

Where did you learn Armenian?

I speak fluently Armenian and learned it from my parents, since it is
my mother language. Speaking Armenian at home is important to us.
Moreover I am able to read and write Armenian.

What are your expectations from your participation in The Voice of
Germany? What prospects is the contest opening up for you as a singer?
What style in music do you prefer?

Actually I really don’t know what to expect at all. In the first place
I just feel much honored that the complete jury turned around for me
simultaneously after a couple of seconds, although all of their teams
were already full. And as I was the last contestant of the `Blind
Audition’ phase my expectation was not very high. With my
participation in The Voice of Germany I hope to be able to establish
myself as a professional singer, to go on stage and just sing for the
audience.

This is my dream. I love to be just on stage and to sing. I don’t
really have one specific style of music which I prefer. I like to sing
everything from Beyonce, to Etta James and I also love to sing
Armenian songs like Dle Yaman.

You are in the same group with other Armenian participant Iveta
Mukuchyan. Did you manage to communicate and share some words in
Armenian?

Yes, that is right. I am in the same team with Iveta. Sure, we also
conversed together in Armenian.

Have you even been to Armenia? Are you planning to come in the near future?

Of course I have been to Armenia. My cousins, my aunt and my
grandfather live there and I went to visit them with my family. But I
have no concrete plans yet when I will visit Armenia again as I have
to see how my life here goes on with my study and I don’t know what
will come next. But certainly I will visit Armenia again in the
future.
