FLORA MARTIROSYAN WILL BE BURIED IN THE MOTHERLAND

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 23, ARMENPRESS. It’s now certain that the civil
funerals and burial of People’s Artist of Armenia Flora Martirosyan
will be held in Armenia. The Department of Public Relations of the
Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Armenia informed “Armenpress”
about this. In addition it was said that the Chief Consul of the
Republic of Armenia in Los Angeles Grigor Hovhannisyan informed the
Ministry of Culture about this. The date of the ceremony is still
to be clarified, as the procedure of all necessary documents for
repatriation takes a long time in the United States of America. The
Department of Public Relations of the Ministry of Culture of the
Republic of Armenia stated: “In accordance with the decision of the
Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia a special committee will
be created for the organization of the civil funerals and burial in
Armenia after the date of reparation is made clear.” As to the place
of the burial the decision will be up to the aforementioned committee.

People’s Artist of the Republic of Armenia Flora Martirosyan
passed away in the United States of America. The cause of death
was the difficulties, which arose after she was operated on for her
gall-bladder. Flora Martirosyan was the founder of the International
Musical School after Komitas, “Artists for Peace” Charity Organization
and the initiator of the cultural movement “Never Again”. Flora
Martirosyan was born in Gyumri on February 5, 1957.

Le conflit Israël-Hamas cree une dissension dans les relations
americaines avec la Turquie et l’Egypte, deux partenaires cles au
Proche-Orient

Le conflit Israël-Hamas met l’Administration Obama en porte a faux
avec deux de ses partenaires les plus importants au Moyen-Orient,
menacant de nuire aux objectifs americains dans la region a un moment
de bouleversement politique.

Lundi, le Premier ministre turc Recep Tayyip Erdogan, qui a frequemment
servi de voix moderee dans la region [Nota CVAN : sic !], a decrit
Israël en terme ” d’Etat terroriste ” et a condamne les raids aeriens
sur la bande de Gaza qui est gouvernee par le groupe islamiste du
Hamas. Le president egyptien Mohamed Morsi a mis en garde Israël
contre une offensive terrestre et a accorde son soutien au leadership
du Hamas, en envoyant son Premier ministre a Gaza.

Les protestations croissantes ont expose les Etats-Unis a des
critiques, leur reprochant de ne pas avoir exerce suffisamment de
pressions sur Israël pour que le pays accepte un cessez-le-feu. Le
conflit a egalement cree des problèmes dans les relations avec
les responsables egyptiens et turcs et a souligne les limites de
l’influence des Etats-Unis après les revolutions qui ont balaye la
region l’an dernier.

Ni le nouveau gouvernement islamiste en Egypte ni celui etabli
en Turquie n’ont reussi a persuader le Hamas de cesser de lancer
des roquettes de Gaza vers Israël. La Jordanie – comme l’Egypte, un
levier traditionnel d’influence dans le conflit israelo-palestinien –
n’a pas non plus ete capable ou desireuse de persuader le Hamas de
lever l’etat d’alerte.

Lundi, un responsable egyptien a exprime sa frustration quant au rôle
joue jusque-la par les Etats-Unis, qui n’ont fait aucune tentative pour
exhorter publiquement Israël a mettre un frein a ses raids aeriens.

Les Etats-Unis ont plus d’influence sur Israël que tout autre ”
pays au monde “, a declare un responsable, sous couvert d’anonymat,
a propos des negociations en cours. ” Les Israeliens ne veulent
ecouter personne. ”

L’Administration Obama a demande a toutes les parties impliquees
” d’arreter l’escalade “, mais a critique uniquement le Hamas. ”
Toutes les actions diplomatiques americaines de haut niveau ont ete
faites a distance, y compris les appels telephonique d’Obama a Morsi
et au Premier ministre israelien Benjamin Netanyahu, ce lundi.

Les efforts diplomatiques internationaux visant un cessez-le-feu se
sont intensifies au Caire, mais les Etats-Unis n’ont pas expressement
soutenu un quelconque plan.

” Nous ne pratiquons pas la diplomatie sur scène “, a declare lundi
la porte-parole du Departement d’Etat, Victoria Nuland. ” Nous avons
ete très clairs, Israël a le droit de se defendre. Nous avons ete
très clairs en ce qui concerne les roquettes qui continuent d’etre
tirees et de tomber sur Israël. Nous avons clairement dit que nous
~uvrons pour essayer de stopper l’escalade dans ce conflit. Nous
avons clairement indique notre inquietude en ce qui concerne les
civils et les innocents pris dans ce conflit, des deux côtes. ”

Entretemps, l’Administration a essaye d’etre prudente avec l’Egypte et
la Turquie. Elle cherche a reequilibrer ses relations avec la première,
suite a l’election d’un dirigeant islamiste, tout en comptant sur
la deuxième pour servir de son principal rempart diplomatique contre
une deterioration de la situation en Syrie.

Les responsables americains ont soutenu les deux pays en tant que
pacificateurs possibles a Gaza, mais ils se sont abstenus de critiquer
leur approbation au Hamas.

” Notre position continue d’etre, que ces nations de la region,
en particulier celles qui ont de l’influence sur le Hamas, et ce
sont principalement l’Egypte et la Turquie, le Qatar egalement…,
que ces nations ont besoin d’user de leur influence pour faire cesser
l’escalade de ce conflit ” a declare lundi le conseiller adjoint a
la securite de la Maison Blanche. ” La desescalade doit commencer,
de nouveau, avec la fin des tirs de roquettes de Gaza. ”

La position diplomatique difficile des Etats-Unis rappelle la
guerre d’Israël contre le Liban en 2006, lorsque les nations arabes
et europeennes ont fait du lobbying auprès de l’Administration de
George W. Bush pour qu’elle intercède auprès d’Israël ou pousse a un
cessez-le-feu. Dans un premier temps, les Etats-Unis avaient resiste
aux appels a un cessez-le-feu, car Israël pretendait avoir besoin
d’une marge de man~uvre militaire.

Cette fois-ci, les efforts diplomatiques sont compliques par les
relations entre deux allies des Etats-Unis dans la region, Israël et
la Turquie.

Les liens entre ces deux pays se sont deteriores en 2010, après que
la flotte israelienne a mene un raid sur un navire charge d’aide
humanitaire qui tentait de forcer le blocus de la bande Gaza. Neuf
Turcs avaient ete tues dans les affrontements avec des activistes
qui se trouvaient a bord.

Ankara avait expulse l’ambassadeur israelien et gele la cooperation
militaire, lorsqu’un rapport des Nations Unis, publie l’an dernier,
avait largement exonere l’Etat hebreu de sa responsabilite dans cet
incident. Ce mois-ci, la Turquie a ouvert le procès par contumace de
quatre ex-commandants militaires israeliens, impliques dans le raid
de 2010.

Le ministre turc des Affaires etrangères Ahmet Davutoglu doit se rendre
a Gaza mardi (NdT : cette visite a eu lieu le 20.11.2012) accompagne
d’un groupe de ministres des Affaires etrangères de la Ligue Arabe.

L’impasse diplomatique se poursuit aux Nations Unies.

Lundi, le Conseil de securite des Nations Unies a commence ses
deliberations sur une proposition soumise par le Maroc, le seul
membre arabe du Conseil, appelant a un arret immediat de ” toutes les
activites militaires ” a Gaza. Un diplomate du Conseil de securite a
declare que 14 des 15 membres du Conseil ” se sont prononces en faveur
” d’un debut de negociations sur ce projet.

Cependant, les Etats-Unis ont declare qu’ils n’etaient pas ”
en position de s’engager ” a dit un diplomate, qui a evoque les
discussions a huis-clos, a condition de rester anonyme. L’ambassadrice
des Nations Unies, Susan E. Rice a affirme que les Etats-Unis etaient
inquiets, car un acte precipite du Conseil pour agir sur la question,
pourrait mettre en danger les negociations de cessez-le-feu qui sont
en cours dans la region.

Après la reunion, le representant de la Russie aux Nations-Unies,
Vitaly Churkin, a exprime sa frustration suite a l’echec du Conseil
a agir. ” Nous sommes contraries, car le projet de declaration de
presse, soumis dès jeudi soir par le Maroc au nom de la Ligue Arabe,
est toujours embourbe dans des discussions “, a-t-il declare.

Le 15e Telethon du Fonds armenien Hayastan (Hayastan Himnatram) a
reuni hier la somme de 21 422 477 dollars. Ainsi plus de 21 millions
de dollars furent recoltes un montant bien superieur a l’an dernier
qui avait recueilli un peu plus de 12 millions de dollars. Lors de
l’emission du Telethon en direct depuis Los Angeles et diffusee sur
l’ensemble des chaînes de televisions armeniennes durant 12 heurs
hier soir, des milliers de donateurs ont apporte leurs promesses de
dons en faveur du Telethon du Fonds armenien au profit de l’Armenie,
du Haut Karabagh et des Armeniens de Syrie. Intitule ” Notre village
” les fonds recoltes iront en priorite au developpement des villages
d’Armenie et du Haut Karabagh. Les dons ont afflue des Etats Unis,
du Canada (Montreal et Toronto), de France, d’Allemagne, de Suisse,
de Belgique, des Pays Bas, de Grèce, de Suède, de Grande Bretagne,
d’Autriche, d’Australie, d’Argentine, du Bresil, de Russie.

L’OBJECTION DES MEDIATEURS AUX VOLS VERS LE KARABAKH

Les mediateurs internationaux ont exprime des doutes au sujet du projet
de lancement de vols commerciaux de l’Armenie dans le Haut-Karabakh,
jeudi alors qu’ ils etaient a Stepanakert pour le debut d’un nouveau
cycle de navette diplomatique regionale.

“Nous pensons que le lancement de l’aeroport [de Stepanakert] dans la
situation actuelle peut provoquer des tensions dans les relations entre
les parties”, a declare Igor Popov, le diplomate russe qui co-preside
le Groupe de Minsk de l’OSCE ses homologues francais et americain.

“En meme temps, nous pensons que la question devrait etre reglee par
des moyens diplomatiques sur la base de l’experience (internationale)
existante “, a declare Popov aux journalistes après une rencontre
des co-presidents avec Bako Sahakian, le president de la Republique
du Haut Karabakh (RHK).

L’Azerbaïdjan a condamne a maintes reprises le projet de la direction
du Haut-Karabakh de rouvrir l’aeroport de Stepanakert nouvellement
reconstruit pour les vols a destination de Erevan, au motif qu’ils
violeraient sa souverainete internationalement reconnue sur le
Karabakh. Plus tôt ce mois-ci, Bakou a renouvele ses menaces de
stopper ces vols par la force.

Les autorites de Stepanakert et Erevan ont ecarte les menaces,
indiquant qu’elles engageraient une action militaire de represailles.

Les Etats-Unis ont reagi en exhortant les deux parties le
2 novembre a rechercher une ” solution diplomatique ” a la
situation potentiellement dangereuse “en conformite avec les accords
internationaux pertinents.” Un porte-parole du departement d’Etat a
egalement cite des declarations sur la question faites par le Groupe
de Minsk plus tôt cette annee.

Dans une declaration rendue en juillet, les mediateurs ont
declare avoir “recu des assurances renouvelees des parties qu’elles
rejetteraient toute menace ou emploi de la force contre les aeronefs
civils, et qu’elles traiteront l’affaire par des voies diplomatiques,
en s’abstenant de politiser la question.”

La troïka de mediation a commence sa dernière visite de la zone
de conflit du Karabakh près d’un mois après la tenue de nouvelles
negociations entre les ministres armenien et azerbaïdjanais des
Affaires etrangères. Les ministres se sont reunis a Paris pour la
première fois depuis un scandale international provoque par la sortie
de prison d’un officier armee azerbaïdjanais qui a tue a coups de
hache un collègue armenien en Hongrie.

Les copresidents ont declare après les negociations de Paris qu’ils
ont presente aux côtes un nombre indetermine ” de propositions de
travail pour faire avancer le processus de paix.” “Les ministres
et les co-presidents ont convenu d’un examen plus approfondi de ces
idees lors de la visite des copresidents dans la region en novembre,
” ont-ils declare dans un communique.

Popov et son homologue americain, Robert Bradtke, a refuse de
divulguer les details de ces propositions après les entretiens
Stepanakert. Bradtke a seulement indique que Washington reste
“fermement determine a faire ce qu’il peut pour aider le processus
de paix.”

Sahakian, cite par son service de presse, aurait dit aux mediateurs
que le conflit pourrait se resoudre s’ils se concentraient sur ses ”
causes plutôt que ses consequences.” “Toute tentative de revenir au
passe serait vouee a l’echec”, a-t-il dit.

Les envoyes doivent se rencontrer le president Serge Sarkissian a
Erevan vendredi avant de partir pour Bakou le week-end.

Sevan Stocking: Police to Monitor Entrances to Lake

At the behest of the Ministry of the Environment roads leading to the
shores of Lake Sevan will be closed after today’s stocking of 366,000
fry to the mountain lake.

This is necessary since the fry remain in the area where stocked and
there is a danger that local residents might see this as an opportune
time to harvest the fish.

The minister also reports that police will beef up patrols in the area
to prevent unwanted entrance to the stocking sites.

No information as to the species stocked was made public.

Several species of Sevan fish have vanished forever due to overfishing
and pollution.

The President of the Republic of Armenia partook in the opening
ceremony of the new building of “Ayb” high school

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 24, ARMENPRESS. The President of the Republic of
Armenia Serzh Sargsyan partook in the opening ceremony of the new
building of “Ayb” high school. As reports “Armenpress” the President
visited the school and participated in the ceremony of blessing of the
memorial stone of the Church of Holy Translators. Under the auspices
of the President the pupils of the school handed a certificate of
appreciation to the “Luys” foundation.

During the conversation with the journalists the Executive Director of
“Ayb” High School Davit Sahakyan stated that one of the peculiarities
of the school is the holistic approach to the education and the fact
that the concept of education is not separated from that of breeding.
He said: “Our pupils are involved in a number of social programs. The
pupils of our school become members of one general network, where are
people willing to support them in their future lives.” Among the
recent achievements of the school the director emphasized the victory
of the team of robotics in “ArmRobotics” contest.

The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the school Fr. Mesrop Aramyan
stated: “We tried to make the environment of the school consonant with
the present century. Notwithstanding the building is not important,
but the people, who work there, and of coarse those bright children,
who study there, are of a certain importance for us all.”

Armenian Graves of the City of Surat Spotlighted at Surat Science
Museum Exhibition

In India, as part of the UNESCO World Heritage Week 19-25 November,
the Surat Science Museum holds an exhibition that spotlights the
Armenian graves of the city of Surat. The exhibition has already
caught the attention of the local residents who attended. The
exhibition, run by the Surat Science Museum has a photo gallery of the
Armenian graves with the English translations beside them.

Until recently the Armenian graves were only ever seen with their
Armenian script. Had it not been for a `pure chance’ moment, it is
unlikely the exhibition would ever have taken place. Photographs of
the graves were posted by Arpine Gyulinyan to the Indo-Armenian
Friendship NGO Facebook page and were spotted by Liz Chater, a
UK-based family history researcher.

Liz then contacted Arpine. Liz and Arpine started regular
communications and Arpine introduced Liz to Sanjay Choksi the
photographer who took the pictures. This heralded the start of a story
of collaboration and co-operation spanning three continents. Liz says:

“In a way without Indo-Armenian Friendship NGO Facebook page it
wouldn’t have happened. Sanjay Choksi and Piyush Dalal (Arpine’s
husband) took the photos, Arpine posted them to IAF Facebook page, and
I happened to see them. I asked if I would be allowed to post the
photographs of the graves on my website and said that I would try to
get the English translations of them.

A few months passed and with the help from the fantastically
knowledgeable historians Professor Sebouh Aslanian and Father Krikor
Maksoudian from the USA the translations began to take shape. This
truly international story of working together and co-operation would
not have brought such lime-light onto the Armenian graves of Surat. We
have all played a part and now the grave photographs and the
transcriptions form part of the Surat Science Centre Heritage
Programme this week.”

Although the exhibition ends on November 25, the photographs and
English translations can be permanently found on Liz Chater’s website
chater-genealogy.com.

Liz Chater has been researching the Armenians in India for the last 12
years. Seven years ago, Liz decided to start an ambitious project to
photograph and transcribe all the Armenian graves in India and to make
that information available to other interested researchers. Following
many trips to India she was able to place hundreds of pictures of the
Armenian graves onto her website.

Furthermore, Liz has recently self-published a book on Armenian graves
in Dhaka entitled: `Armenian Graves, Inscriptions and Memorials in
India – DACCA 1722-1977′ in which the English translations from
classical Armenian have, for the very first time been made publically
available by her. She was kindly assisted with this project by Very
Reverend Father Krikor Maksoudian of Arlington, Massachusetts who
translated the classical Armenian script and who is also actively
translating the Armenian graves at Surat for her.

The Armenian graves at Surat have never previously been fully
translated into English and doing so, and bringing these translations
to the internet will enable other family history researchers and
historians access to what has been, up until now, `locked’ history.

Liz Chater’s genealogical database has over 10,000 Armenians who once
lived, worked and died in Asia and it is hoped that she will be able
to get this information published.

The Armenians and Azerbaijanis of the Russian Federation made a joint statement

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 24, ARMENPRESS. The Union of Russian-Armenians
together with Azerbaijani “Azerros” organization signed a joint
statement in Moscow on November 23. The Union of Russian-Armenians
informed “Armenpress” about this.

The statement refers to the intense relations of Armenia and
Azerbaijan lasting more than two decades. In the statement it is said:
“We are confident that the regulation of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict
is possible only by means of the format of the peaceful negotiations
based upon the international law.”

The sides consider unacceptable hostilities between the
representatives of the Armenian and Azerbaijani communities, because
of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict in the territory of the Russian
Federation. In the statement it is said: “It’s our common duty to
educate and rise the young generations of Armenia and Azerbaijan in
the spirit of mutual respect.”

A number of points have been underscored in the joint statement signed
by the Union of Russian-Armenians and Azerbaijani “Azerros”
organization. The realization of the aforementioned points will have a
positive impact on the establishment of fraternal relations between
the Armenian and Azerbaijani communities. Among them are listed the
creation of the permanent committee, which will be in charge for the
issues regarding both sides; the organization of cultural, educational
and sport events in Moscow and others.

Among other things it is said in the statement: “Accepting the
aforementioned decision we rely upon the reality that the Armenians
and Azerbaijanis living in Russia must contribute to the establishment
of fraternal relations between our peoples and states.”

Turkish MP: Armenia’s allegations about `genocide’ is falsification of history

To refer to the events of 1915 in Turkey as “Armenian genocide” means
falsifying history because these statements are wrong, member of the
Turkish ruling Justice and Development Party Ercan Candan said today.

He made this statement at the seventh General Assembly of the
International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) in Baku.

While expressing his views to the statement of Armenian party
‘Heritage’ leader, former Foreign Minister Raffi Hovhannisyan, also
involved in the ICAPP General Assembly, Candan recalled that at the
beginning of the last century his country was faced with the
intervention of four European countries.

Despite the fact that up to then the Armenians in Turkey lived
peacefully with the Turks, they began to carry out separatist
activities while taking advantage of the intervention, Candan said.

“We gained a victory over the aggressors, but did not expel Armenians
from Turkey. They left the country on their own accord,” Candan said.
“The Armenian president says that they liberated Karabakh. At present,
they are going to liberate Ararat. He was making this statement whilst
addressing young people. Let’s see who is telling the truth and who is
lying. These are baseless statements and I consider them as another
lie against Turkey.”

In his statement at the General Assembly, Hovhannisyan stated that
Turks committed the biggest ‘genocide’ against the Armenians.

GENOCIDE ARMENIEN-PRESSE
« Marianne » évoque l’attitude de la Turquie sur la reconnaissance du
génocide arménien

Dans son dossier de 24 pages « Spécial Histoire », l’hebdomadaire «
Marianne » (n° 813 daté du 17 au 24 novembre) consacre des articles
sur les exactions de l’Histoire, les crimes et génocides. Dans un
article signé par Vladimir de Gmeline titré « Tour du monde des
examens de conscience » l’hebdomadaire sous-titre « Massacres de
Nankin pour les Japonais, génocide arménien pour les Turcs, crimes
contre les Indiens d’Amérique…Chacun choisit de s’en excuser ou
pas… ». Au sujet du génocide arménien, Vladimir de Gmeline écrit
après l’attitude des Chinois et des Japonais sur l’interprétation des
massacres de Nankin « (…) Une attitude que l’on retrouve, de manière
beaucoup plus marquée, en Turquie, où le simple emploi du mot «
génocide » à propos des déportations et des massacres d’Arméniens en
1915 est passible d’une peine de prison. Un terme qu’ont d’ailleurs
pris soin de ne pas employer les 200 intellectuels turcs qui ont signé
la pétition demandant pardon aux Arméniens pour la Grande Catastrophe
qui les a frappés. Les tenants de l’histoire officielle considèrent
que les Arméniens étaient en train de s’allier aux Russes, qu’ils
étaient les agresseurs et qu’il n’y a donc aucune raison de s’excuser.
Une ligne soutenue par le Premier ministre, Recep Tayyip Erdogan : «
Si un tel crime a eu lieu, celui qui l’a commis peut s’excuser. Mais
ce n’est pas mon cas, ni celui de mon pays, ni de ma nation ».
