THEY COMPLAINED TO THE ACTING US DEPUTY CHIEF OF MISSION

March 4 2013

“It is unfair to congratulate Serzh Sargsyan who has declared himself
president for the second time” Today a group of Armenian citizens
expressed their disagreement and discontent with US President Barak
Obama’s congratulating Serzh Sargsyan in a letter addressed to the
US Ambassador to Armenia. “It is unfair to congratulate someone who
has been elected through a rigged election and who has declared
himself president for the second time, and the United States, as
well as other countries, which have congratulated Serzh Sargsyan,
impedes the democratization of the Armenian people,” activist Tsovinar
Nazaryan said during the protest outside the embassy, after handing
their letter over to James Land, the acting US deputy chief of mission.

Publicist Zaruhi Hovhannisyan added: “Another rigged election has
taken place before everybody’s eyes, and this is the second time the
same person has declared himself president. The congratulations of
all the democratic countries’ high-ranking officials, presidents to
Serzh Sargsyan are disappointing to us, because the electoral fraud
that took place during the presidential election has been talked
about many times.” In activist Artur Grigoryan’s words, superpowers
influence the developments inside the Armenian state, but they are
guided not by Armenia’s, but their own national interests. “The
people at the helm of our country are enmeshed in corruption to such
an extent that they couldn’t change even if they wanted to. Society
is facing a dilemma what to do, how to behave in this situation…,
everything begins with elections; there is no institution of elections,
it is pointless to talk about democracy.” The activists also showed
a red card to the embassy in protest. Details in the video Media can

NKR FOREIGN MINISTER GAVE AN INTERVIEW TO ECHO OF MOSCOW RADIO STATION

05-03-2013 16:42:01 | | Politics

In an interview to Echo of Moscow Radio Station aired on March 4,
2013 minister of foreign affairs of Nagorno Karabakh Republic Karen
Mirzoyan answered to a range of questions of Evgeny Buntman including
the ones concerning the current stage and prospects of the settlement
of the conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan as well as
NKR’s position on foreign policy issues.

“Unfortunately, we do not register the progress in the negotiation
process, which we would like to see… And first of all we think
it happens because Nagorno Karabakh is not a full party of the
negotiation process” – said the minister. He emphasized that the full
involvement of the NKR as a party of negotiations at all stages will
allow reaching real breakthrough and achieving our ultimate goal –
conflict settlement between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan.

Karen Mirzoyan noted that there is a common understanding that the
key element should be the expression of the free will of the people of
Nagorno Karabakh. “This will must be considered”, – said the minister.

Answering to the question about the chances of NKR’s recognition,
Karen Mirzoyan noted: “I’m confident that sooner or later Karabakh
will become a recognized member of the international community.” He
also stressed that the NKR’s recognition will create more favorable
conditions for the settlement of the conflict with Azerbaijan.

Concerning the concept of the conflict settlement the foreign
minister stressed that it was unacceptable that separate elements of
the conflict settlement are being wrested from the common context
and considered in totally other context, different from the common
direction of the negotiation process.

“Our position has always been the following: the negotiation process,
all the issues which are on the negotiation table are inseparable from
each other and they must be discussed and resolved simultaneously”
– stressed Karen Mirzoyan.

Vazgen Sargsyan Would Be 54 Today

VAZGEN SARGSYAN WOULD BE 54 TODAY
Alisa Gevorgyan

“Radiolur”
16:23 05.03.2013

Vazgen Sargsyan would be 54 today. He was a politician and writer,
Defense Minister, leader of the Republican Party, co-president of the
“Unity” alliance, Prime Minister, Hero of the Republic of Armenia
and Artsakh, member of the USSR Union of Writers.

Twenty-six years ago he was searching for his place and role in
Armenian literature. It was the Artsakh war that made him a soldier.

He was one of the first to understand that the salvation of the
Armenian nation was in the weapon.

He passed the way from being a writer to soldier very quickly, as the
war imposed on us was demanding soldiers and there was no time to wait.

“During our first meeting in 1989 I understood that I was dealing
with a man too far from military craft. In just six months I saw a
completely different Vazgen,” says Vova Vardanov, participant of the
Artsakh liberation war.

The Armenian Army became his dream and his belief. “The Army was
Vazgen’s home, his pride,” says Mrs. Greta, Vazgen Sargsyan’s mother.

Any national liberation movement bears its heroes. At the end of the
20th century Vazgen Sargsyan was destined to lead the Armenian Army,
which did not even exist at the time.

“Army is the mirror of national self-recognition and the look into
future,” Vazgen Sargsyan used to say.

Obama’s Message To Armenia’s Sargsyan Is Not Congratulatory – Politi

OBAMA’S MESSAGE TO ARMENIA’S SARGSYAN IS NOT CONGRATULATORY – POLITICAL EXPERT

NEWS.AM

YEREVAN. – As a US citizen, Regional Studies Center Director, political
analyst Richard Giragosian is disappointed by US President Barack
Obama’s recent message that was addressed to Armenian President
Serzh Sargsyan, Giragosian himself noted during a press conference
on Tuesday.

“If you read Obama’s entire message, [you will see that] it is not a
full congratulations to President Serzh Sargsyan; the problems that
existed in this [Armenian presidential] election [that was conducted
on February 18] are recalled in it. President Obama was not even
aware that such letter was sent. In other words, the president of
Mozambique likewise receives a similar letter,” he noted.

Giragosian also stressed that the Armenians have a big problem to
solve, and they should be tired of waiting for what Russian President
Vladimir Putin, or President Obama say, and that Armenia’s democracy
should be compared with Armenian standards.

Unaccomplished Things Of Sparapet Vazgen Sargsyan

UNACCOMPLISHED THINGS OF SPARAPET VAZGEN SARGSYAN

02:32 PM | TODAY | POLITICS

“None of the nations of the world does not like war, but also none
of them hates its own victorious war”,- said Vazgen Sargsyan on the
day of his assassination, as if feeling that he would not have any
other chance to make speech in front of the Armenian audience.

“No election deserves to divide the people of the same nation
especially to make them enemies”,-Vazgen Sarkisian called for
reconciliation and said, ‘We have never made a choice”.

One thing is clear and precise about Vazgen Sragsya’s role. With the
active participation of Vazgen Sargsyan the powerful Armenian army
was created, which protects our country.

“I consider that the army is the base of RA stability and defense
without what the economy of the Republic of Armenia can not develop
and vice versa”.

Today Vazgen Sargsyan would be 54 years old. He loved his country,
as the writer Alvard Petrosyan said, loved as a child. “In everything
inside of him there was childhood, purity, faith since the children
believe in what they do”.

If he did not believe nowadays we would not have the most viable and
the most powerful army in the region and he was the one who put the
start. He loved his land and nature and was confident that tomorrow
was going to be ours.

“I am confident that our country will become a powerful and rich
state. 21st century, of course, is going to be ours. I see very well
that in the eyes and voice of numerous people there is no inspiration
while pronouncing the word independence. It is painful but yet a fact.

We, who have taken the responsibility of our country, should not let
that Independence, Freedom, Victory become ordinary concepts. We will
be destroyed if the people start hating that ideas”, – he said.

How many incomplete things were left that Sparapet could accomplish
if had not become a victim of terrorist attack in 1999.

Events Dedicated To Sumgait Massacres Continue

EVENTS DEDICATED TO SUMGAIT MASSACRES CONTINUE

Panorama.am
14:22 05/03/2013 ” SOCIETY

On Sunday, in Spain at San Juan de la Cruz an event was held dedicated
to the 25th anniversary of Sumgait massacres.

The Armenian Charge d’Affaires in Spain Khoren Terteryan made a speech
to the Armenians of Spain. He presented the reasons and consequences
of the tragic events. The movie telling about the massacres in Sumgait
was shown.

In Batumi as well they have given tribute to victims of the massacre.

Events dedicated to the 25th of Sumgait genocide and Artsakh movement
was held in Batumi organized by the General Consulate and the efforts
of the Armenian community.

In the Kiev International University as well, a round table and a
documentary film dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Armenian
pogroms in Sumgait was organized. As Analitika.at.ua executive
director of the Armenian community of Kiev Hasmik Melkumyan reported
the event was attended by representatives of the Armenian diaspora,
famous Ukrainian public figures and active youth.

On 26-29 February 1988 in terms of actual complicity of local
authorities and inaction of the USSR government mass pogroms
of civilians were organized in Sumgait city of Azerbaijani SSR,
accompanied with unprecedented brutal murders, violence and pillaging
against the Armenian population of the city. Armenian pogroms in
Sumgait were carefully organized. At the meetings, which began on
February 26 in the central square, city leaders openly called for
violence against the Armenians.

On February 27 protests which were attended by hundreds of rioters
turned into violence. Armed with axes, knives, specially sharpened
rebar, rocks and cans of gasoline and with the pre-compiled lists of
apartments where Armenians lived the rioters broke into the houses,
turning everything upside down there and killing the owners. In
the same time, people were often taken out to the streets or to the
courtyard for jeering at them publicly. After painful humiliations
and torture the victims were doused with gasoline and burnt alive.

On February 29 army troops entered Sumgait but without an order to
intervene. Only in the evening, when the mad crowd began to attack
the soldiers the military units took up decisive steps.

The exact number of victims of Sumgait pogroms is still unknown.

According to official data, 32 people were killed; however there
is ample evidence that several hundred Armenians have been killed
in the city in three days. There is also evidence that the riots
were coordinated by KGB in Azerbaijan. Executioners of Sumgait were
subsequently declared as national heroes of Azerbaijan.

YEREVAN.- Head of Marxist party David Hakobyan is confident Armenian
authorities are stretching out the hand of reconciliation to the
opposition.

In response, the opposition calls the president “an imposter”,
Hakobyan said commenting on post-election situation in Armenia.

“If we want to characterize the situation we can note that the
Republican junta asked people for a stick to manipulate them during
the coming five years. However, they did not expect resistence,”
he told reporters on Tuesday.

Hakobyan said it is impossible to carry out peaceful transfer of power
since Central Electoral Commission is not a guarantor of democracy,
but “democracy violator.”

He called on the authorities to introduce a fundamentally new
Electoral Code.
