French Ambassador visits Khosrov state reserve

YEREVAN. – Armenia’s Nature Protection Ministry organized a number of
events in Khosrov state reserve.

Minister Aram Harutyunyan, French Ambassador to Armenia Henri Reynaud
and Ararat Governor Edik Barseghyan participated in the events.

French Ambassador toured the national park’s museum, studied
biodiversity and measures aimed at preservation of the park.

In his address, Minister Harutyunyan urged to double the efforts to
solve existing environmental problems.

Ambassador Reynaud congratulated everyone on World Environment Day and
thanked for warm reception. Henri Reynaud said he was impressed by the
museum and gave appraisal of the attention to nature protection.

Only 9 % of Armenia’s disabled people employed

PanARMENIAN.Net – Participants of Cooperation 2013 international
marathon for people with disabilities met on June 8 with Minister of
Labor and Social Affairs Artem Asatryan.
Minister Asatryan said the number of disabled people in Armenia totals
180 000, with only 9% of them employed. For this reason practical
amendments are made to the law allowing for solutions to the
employment problem.

`All the organizations with over 100 employees must include at least
1% disabled people among the employees. The organizations reluctant to
meet the demand will be forced to pay certain amount of money,’
Minister Asatryan said.

The marathon participants later staged flashmob in Northern Avenue.

Turkish PM will try drawing public attention on external enemy –
Armenian turkologist

YEREVAN. – Taking into account the growing protest in the country,
Turkey’s PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan may intensify the situation in the
Syrian front to draw the Turkish public attention on an external
enemy.

Turkologist Artak Shakaryan stated the abovementioned during a press
conference on Saturday.

In his view, by inciting certain military actions, Erdogan will
attempt to distort the image of an internal enemy within Turkey.

`As for the [Istanbul-] Armenian community, it is divided into two
parts: 19-25-year-old, primarily leftist [Armenian] persons are taking
an active part in the demonstrations,’ the turkologist noted. He
added, however, that the Armenian community’s other – and more
experienced – segment knows that, no matter what, the Armenians will
bear the brunt in the end.

Shakaryan also stressed that the current events in Turkey will have no
direct impact on the Nagorno-Karabakh issue.

`If the nationalists come to power in Turkey, this will be much worse
than Erdogan’s present-day position,’ the turkologist concluded.

Armenia’s Lake Sevan is perfect place for regattas – expert

YEREVAN. – Armenia’s Lake Sevan may become a perfect place to hold
regattas with Sevan’s traditional boats, Ayas Club President Karen
Balayan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

To note, the construction of such boats is one of the projects of this club.

`We have built two traditional boats. They are very fast, [and] it is
very interesting to hold regattas with them. These are the same boats
that you come across in the 18th-19th century pictures. Ten [such]
boats are planned to be built and to organize international regattas.
The idea is in effect, but, sadly, we so far have found sponsors for
[the construction of] solely two boats.

This is an Armenia-based project to attract tourists. What’s important
is that we are experienced. We participate in international
competitions ever since 1994, and we are capable of organizing
highest-level regattas [in Armenia],’ Balayan said, in particular.

ARMENIE-DIASPORA-MARSEILLE
Exposition-vente de peintures arméniennes au profit des Arméniens de
Syrie lors de la Semaine Arménienne de Marseille du 17 au 22 juin au
Pavillon « M »

Hier 7 juin à Erévan s’est déroulée l’exposition-vente des `uvres de
peintres Arméniens et du peintre Arménien du Liban, Movses Herkelian
dont les bénéfices seront au profit des Arméniens de Syrie.
L’inauguration de l’exposition s’est déroulée en présence de la
ministre de la Diaspora, Hranouche Hagopian. Du 17 au 22 juin à
Marseille, lors de la Semaine Arménienne au Pavillon « M » (à quelques
pas de la Mairie, sur le Vieux Port), ces peintures seront également
exposées et mise à la vente au profit de la construction d’un quartier
destiné aux Arméniens de Syrie. Une opération conjointe entre
l’association « Terre d’Arménie » dirigée par Richard Fyndikian et le
ministère arménien de la Diaspora. Ce quartier qui sera peuplé par les
Arméniens de Syrie réfugiés en Arménie, dont le nom est « Nor Alep »
(Nouvel Alep) sera construit dans la ville d’Achdarak proche d’Erévan.
Les peintres qui ont apporté leurs concours sont également Vahram
Davdyan, Vahan Roumelian, Kevork Yeghiazarien et Naïra Aghakhanian.

La fondation « Tashir » offre 10 véhicules d’une valeur de 200 000
dollars à l’Armée arménienne

La fondation « Tashir » vient d’offrir à l’Armée arménienne dix
véhicules de transport militaires d’une valeur totale de 200 000
dollars. Ces véhicules livrés font suite à une demande des besoins en
matière de transport, effectuée auprès du ministère arménien de la
Défense. Ces véhicules seront distribués dans les unités de l’Armée
arménienne par le ministère. « L’armée de chaque pays est encore plus
forte avec le soutien et l’amour du peuple. Et le devoir de chacun est
de soutenir cette armée, gage de notre sécurité en contribuant si
possible par une aide financière » a affirmé Ardak Djagharian le
responsable du bureau du député Garén Garabédian. La fondation «
Tashir » avait également en 2011 offert plusieurs véhicules à l’Armée
arménienne.

Un Arménie de Géorgie condamné à 25 ans de prison pour un mystérieux
double homicide

NICE, (AFP) – Ando Sarkisian, un Géorgien d’origine arménienne de 37
ans, a été condamné vendredi à une peine de 25 ans de prison par la
cour d’assises des Alpes-Maritimes pour le double meurtre en mai 2011
de deux figures très influentes des communautés arménienne et
tchétchène de Nice.

L’avocat général Eric Camous avait requis la perpétuité à l’encontre
de cet homme, qui a un passeport russe et avait obtenu en France un
statut de réfugié politique. A l’issue de trois jours de procès, le
voile n’a pas été levé sur le motif exact de ces meurtres.

La nuit du 6 mai 2011, deux hommes avaient été retrouvés morts de deux
balles chacun de 22 long rifle après un repas particulièrement arrosé
sur le balcon du petit appartement niçois loué par Ando Sarkisian. Il
s’agissait de l’Arménien Edvard Margaryan, considéré par la police
comme le représentant à Nice de la communauté criminelle de `voleurs
dans la loi` (mafia de l’ex-URSS). L’homme habitait à Barcelone mais
chapeautait peut-être encore la communauté arménienne de Nice, où
habitaient ses enfants.

La deuxième victime était le Tchétchène Abdul Erzanukaev, soupçonné
d’avoir été à l’époque le responsable et `juge de paix` de la
communauté tchétchène à Nice. Arrivé en 2000 en France pour se mettre
au vert après une affaire de blanchiment en Autriche, il n’avait
jamais travaillé mais menait un train de vie luxueux, roulant dans une
Mercedes offerte par un ami.

Le Géorgien Sarkisian avait été interpellé dans la rue peu après le
double homicide, accompagné de ses deux jeunes enfants. Le soir du
crime, il était le plus alcoolisé des trois hommes avec un taux de
1,44 gramme d’alcool par litre de sang.

L’avocate de l’accusé, Marie-Claire Freundlich le Thanh, a critiqué
vendredi le terme `d’exécutions` utilisé par l’avocat général. Elle a
défendu la version de son client selon laquelle le Tchétchène aurait
tué l’Arménien, puis Sarkisian aurait abattu le Tchétchène.

Me Joseph Cicciolini, l’un des avocats de la famille tchétchène
Erzanukaev, a pour sa part mis en exergue les mystérieux échanges
téléphoniques entre Sarkisian et un interlocuteur parisien le jour du
carnage, en laissant entendre que le double meurtre aurait pu être
commandité. Une violente bagarre avait également opposé, un mois avant
le double homicide, Sarkisian à un autre membre de la communauté
arménienne. L’affaire obsédait Sarkisian, au point qu’il était allé à
Paris demander l’arbitrage d’un `voleur dans la loi`.

Le soir du drame, les deux invités auraient potentiellement essayé de
l’extorquer de sa voiture, a aussi affirmé Sarkisian. La thèse d’une
beuverie qui aurait mal tourné reste l’hypothèse privilégiée par les
enquêteurs.

Le RC Lens aux mains de la mafia de Bakou ?

Suite aux informations relatives à la reprise possible du RC Lens par
des investisseurs azerbaidjanais, le Bureau Français de la Cause
Arménienne a interpelé Luc Dayan, Président du club, dans une lettre
publique visant à lui faire part de ses inquiétudes et rappelant le
vrai visage de ce potentiel investisseur, Hafis Mammadov, membre du
clan du Président d’Azerbaïdjan Ilham Aliev. En effet, les
innombrables atteintes aux droits de l’Homme qui ont valu à Aliev le
titre de champion du monde de la corruption de l’année 2012, ne
confèrent aucune contribution louable à un club sportif français. De
plus, le Bureau Français de la Cause Arménienne a insisté sur le
caractère liberticide de cet Etat, établi et admis par les
organisations internationales.

A l’heure où il est fréquent de voir des investisseurs étrangers
contribuer au rayonnement des clubs de sport et notamment des clubs de
football en leur octroyant des fonds notoires, il est important de
clarifier et de distinguer les situations . Dès lors que les sommes
conséquentes investies sont dénuées de toute équivoque quant à leur
légalité, elles peuvent être appréciées. Cependant quand l’origine des
fonds est douteuse, elle ne peut qu’entrainer un refus catégorique et
entacher l’image du club en cause. Ainsi, Il serait scandaleux que le
RC Lens puisse être repris par des oligarques tels que Mammadov,
fondateur du Baghlan Group FCZO, dans l’industrie pétrolière. Ces
fonds collectés par des clans mafieux détenant le pouvoir au détriment
de la population de ce pays constituent une source de financement
indigne pour ce club français qui a traversé un siècle entier et dont
la popularité n’est plus à prouver. En outre, comment justifier qu’un
club de football français soit repris par un investisseur lié au
pouvoir politique corrompu ?

En effet, il existe des liens étroits entre Hafis Mammadov et le
Ministre des Transports Ziya Mammadov, qui est régulièrement impliqué
dans des affaires de corruption et de clientélisme. Dans ce système,
les politiques publiques sont désétatisées et livrées à des réseaux
néo patrimoniaux. Mammadov est directement relié à la dynastie Aliev
qui concentre ainsi tous les pouvoirs en opérant une fusion totale
entre pouvoir politique et réseaux d’affaires. Il est à noter
également que le fils et le frère du Ministre Mammadov ne sont autres

Au-delà des rapports politico-économiques opérés à l’intérieur même de
ce clan, le dirigeant du Baghlan Group emploie ses fonds au profit du
club de Football de Bakou, dont il assure également la présidence. La
concentration des pouvoirs et des acteurs clés entre les mains d’une
seule et même figure traduit fortement la nature du régime
autocratique qui règne en Azerbaïdjan. La dictature exercée par Aliev,
qualifié de « prédateur » par Reporters Sans Frontières, est en totale
contradiction avec les valeurs éthiques et morales véhiculées par tout
club sportif. Il n’est pas acceptable qu’un tel Etat entravant les
valeurs humaines fondamentales reconnues par la République puisse
ainsi s’infiltrer en France par la voie sportive en portant des
ambitions politiques.

Le Président du RC Lens a pris le soin de répondre à la lettre
publique du BFCA. Cependant, nos inquiétudes perdurent. Nous restons
vigilants sur cette affaire. Il est important que chaque acteur prenne
ses responsabilités en ayant pleinement conscience des enjeux réels en
cause. L’ancien Président du RC Lens, Gervais Martel, reste l’acteur
principal dans cette affaire, en tant qu’associé de l’oligarque en
cause de Bakou et à ce titre, il sera à son tour interpellé par le
Bureau Français de la Cause Arménienne, tout comme la Fédération
Française de Football et le Ministre des Sports afin de répondre à nos
interrogations légitimes.

Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry welcomes European Council’s statement

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan welcomes the statement of
the President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy that the
strengthening of stability in the Caucasus is based on the principles
of territorial integrity and independence, Foreign Ministry spokesman
Elman Abdullayev said at a news briefing.

“This is an indication that the international community respects the
principles of territorial integrity and sovereignty, and opposes the
change of borders by force,” he said.

This shows once again that Azerbaijan’s position coincides with the
position of the international community, Abdullayev noted.

The principles of a comprehensive settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh
conflict should be agreed upon now, European Council President Herman
Van Rompuy said in Yekaterinburg on Tuesday.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988
when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan.

Armenian armed forces have occupied Nagorno-Karabakh and seven
surrounding regions of Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a
ceasefire agreement in 1994.

The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group – Russia, France and the U.S.
are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council’s four
resolutions on the liberation of the occupied territories.

Resilient Malta stun Armenia

Malta produced a resilient performance to defy the odds after beating
Armenia 1-0 for their first win in World Cup qualifying Group B.

Seeking their first point after losing their opening five qualifiers,
Malta were given no chance of denying Armenia who were chasing a win
to kickstart their faltering World Cup campaign but they were in for a
surprise.

Leading through Michael Mifsud’s eight-minute opener, Malta weather
long spells of Armenian pressure, throwing bodies in the way of shots
and crosses to hold on to their advantage.

Mifsud’ is likely to grab the headlines after netting the goal that
gave Malta their first competitive win away from home since the 1-0
win over Estonia in 1993 but all the players contributed to this
famous, hard-earned win, not least goalkeeper Justin Haber who was
imperious in goal.

It was anything but easy as Armenia pressed incessantly after falling
behind but Malta deserved their luck for a battling display that
earned them their first points in this qualifying campaign.

Pietro Ghedin’s team selection featured no surprises as he sent out
the same team that started the 2-0 home defeat to Italy in March.

In defence, Luke Dimech and Jonathan Caruana occupied the two
centre-half roles while Alex Muscat began on the left and Ryan
Camilleri on the right.

Roderick Briffa and Gareth Sciberras were deployed in front of the
four-man rearguard with Edward Herrera and Clayton Failla on the wings
and Andrè Schembri behind captain Michael Mifsud, Malta’s lone striker
in a traditional 4-2-3-1 approach.

Armenia were the brighter side in the early stages but it was Malta
who silenced the home crowd by taking an eighth-minute lead. Malta
broke forward with speed as Schembri passed to Sciberras who released
the speeding Mifsud who was clean through.

Armenia goalkeeper Roman Berezovsky repelled Mifsud’s initial shot but
the Malta captain did not miss with his second attempt, lifting the
ball high into the net for his 37th goal in international football.

Stunned by Mifsud’s opener, Armenia swiftly regained the initiative.
They were denied by Haber on 16 minutes as the Malta goalkeeper pushed
away a close-range header from Lazarian following a corner.

Malta, sporting white outfits, were quick to switch from defence to
attack as Schembri again released Mifsud but this time the Valletta
striker was crowded out by the home defenders.

Another fine Malta move unsettled Armenia’s defence as the influental
Schembri released Herrera on the left. The Birkirkara speedster cut
into the box before playing a cross towards the far post where Mifsud
and Failla were unmarked by the latter headed over.

Armenia were seeing more of the ball but Malta were dangerous every
time they pushed forward on the counter.

At the back, Ghedin’s men refused to wilt, Muscat blocking a dangerous
shot by Manucharyan before Haber pulled off a brilliant save to tip
Pizzelli’s looping drive over the bar.

Danger loomed for Malta when, with six minutes of the first half
remaining, Mkhitaryan sped into the box after a free-kick was
deflected into his path but his diagonal effort was cleared.

Haber did well to fist away Manucharyan’s corner but Armenia persisted
with their attack. Manucharyan jinked his way into the box before
sending in a perfect cross into the six-yard box but Lazarian headed
just over.

As the second half got underway, Armenia poured forward in search of
an equaliser.

Kamo Hovhannisyan made good progress on the right but his dangerous
cross was pawed away by the alert Haber.
The Malta goalkeeper than saved Ozbiliz’s grounder from outside the box.

Ten minutes into the second half, Ghedin had to make his first
substitution after Sciberras suffered what looked like an arm injury
after falling awkwardly. Paul Fenech replaced his Birkirkara
team-mate.

Armenia threatened again when Ozbiliz’s teasing free-kick sailed into
the crowded box and towards goal but Haber showed excellent reflexes
by keeping the ball out.

Caruana then headed away another menacing cross from Movsisyan as
Armenia upped the pressure.

Artur Sarkisov, who scored Armenia’s winner when they beat Malta 1-0
in September, came on for Davit Manoyan. Sarkisov almost emulated his
scoring act as, seconds after entering the field, he ran on to
Pizzelli’s through-ball but his strike hit the base of the near post.

Malta were hanging in. Hovhannisyan accelerated into the box but his
effort was blocked by the excellent Haber who repelled everything
Armenia were throwing at him.

The Birkirkara goalkeeper frustrated Armenia again with another fine
save from Ozbiliz’s drive.

Mkhitaryan was wide with a free-kick and, four minutes from time,
Voskanyan hit wide after Ozbiliz’s corner was deflected into his path.

In stoppage time, Caruana made a timely block to deflect Mkhitaryan’s
shot over the bar.

In a statement shortly after the game, PN spokesman for sports Robert
Cutajar congratulated Malta on the result achieved.
