The President of the Republic of Armenia recognized the 2002 decree of the President of the Republic of Armenia on depriving the former Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia Vagharshak Harutyunyan of his military rank as null and void.

“Based on the proposal of the Prime Minister, in accordance with Article 139, Part 1 of the Constitution.

Decree of the President of the Republic of Armenia of July 22, 2002 “V. V. “Decree NH-1135-A on depriving HARUTYUNYAN of his military rank,” the president’s decree says.

Vagharshak Harutyunyan is a military and political figure, lieutenant general.

in 2002 On July 22, he was stripped of his rank by the decree of President Robert Kocharyan. Vagharshak Harutyunyan considers his demotion illegal, and according to the “Republic” party, of which Vagharshak Harutyunyan was a member, his demotion was a means of political reprisal.

In 2019, his military rank was restored, and he was appointed vice-president of the Ukrainian Communist Party.

The conflict between Vagharshak Harutyunyan and Robert Kocharyan started in 1999. After the October 27 terrorist attack, upon learning about the terrorist act, the army closed the roads leading to Yerevan by the order of the then Minister of Defense Vagharshak Harutyunyan.

And days later, Robert Kocharian described that action as arbitrary, unacceptable action.

Prelate Mardirossian presided over the back-to-school ceremony of Rose and Alex Pilibos School, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. He was accompanied by St. Garabed Church Parish Pastor Archpriest Vicken Vassilian.

In attendance were ARF Central Committee representative Garo Ispenjian, Board of Regents member Sarkis Ourfalian, representatives of St. Garabed Church Board of Trustees and of community organizations, school administrators, faculty, parents, and students.

The program began with the invocation by Fr. Vicken. Student Council members led the pledge of allegiance and national anthems. English teacher Patil DerHovagimian delivered welcoming remarks as the day’s MC. Representatives of Congressman Adam Schiff, State Senator Anthony Portantino, and L.A. Principal Dr. Alina Dorian delivered her message, reflecting on the School’s 50 year legacy of excellence, integrity, heritage, community, and unity, adding that the school has, for half a century, not just educated students, but elevated their minds, spirits, faith, and heritage. She thanked all past and present teachers, faculty, and staff for their hard work, and, addressing the students, urged them to continue to strive for excellence, to set their minds to great heights, and to always remain true to the core values of our faith and nation.

The Prelate began his message by greeting Principal Dorian, Assistant Principal Maral Tavitian, and the entire school family as they embark on their golden anniversary year and move forward to greater heights with the legacy of a rich past, strong present, and hopeful future. He blessed and commended all the teachers who serve with heart and soul, and the parents for their love, sacrifice, and devotion. He wished for the new academic year to abound with the Lord’s blessings and to be successful and fruitful.

In his message to the students, the Prelate urged them to always remember and appreciate the privilege of attending an Armenian school, which is not an ordinary place of learning but a distinctive institution where students grow and develop in their identity as Armenians. “Take advantage of the unique instruction you are fortunate to be offered; learn our uplifting prayers and our language, learn about our rich history and heritage, our ancient faith and homeland, and think of how you can contribute to the advancement of our nation,” stressed Prelate Mardirossian. He concluded by, once again, blessing and commending all those who play a part in the continued success of our schools, the members of the Board of Regents, local school boards, principals, directors, faculty, and volunteers.

The program concluded with the benediction and singing of the Lord’s Prayer.

GeoPromining urges journalists to abandon ‘primitive’ practice of seeking political context when covering foreign investors’ activities

ARKA, Armenia
Aug 16 2019

YEREVAN, August 16. /ARKA/. GeoProMining, a diversified international group of mining companies, developing the Sotk gold deposit in Armenian province of Gegharkunik, has urged today local mass media to abandon what it called the ‘primitive’ practice of seeking a political context when covering the activities of foreign investors in Armenia.

The move comes after some Armenian electronic mass media outlets placed a story titled “Russians treat workers at Sotk gold mine as slaves. Employees sound  alarm.”

‘The heartbreaking story about ‘slaves’ working for Russian exploiters became an occasion for an obviously puff piece story aimed against  GeoPromining Gold company, otherwise how can one explain why journalists  ignore elementary principles of journalism that require  double-checking of facts and an alternative point of view,” GeoProMining press service said in a statement.

‘GeoProMining officially declares that the facts stated in the story are not only untrue, but are also a pure provocation on the part of those who grossly violated the rules of labor discipline and safety,’ the company said.

It said  one of the ‘characters’ of the story, Karo Melkonyan, who accuses Russians of treating local workers as ‘slaves’, was caught  July 5 this year red-handed by security officers of the deposit when  trying to steal gold-bearing ore. Security officers asked him to show what he had in his pockets. Instead Melkonyan said he wanted to go to the toilet to get rid of evidence, however, the security  officers reacted according to the instructions and prevented it.

The whole process was filmed on video cameras, the company filed an application with the police and provided law enforcement agencies with all the relevant materials. Karo Mikaelyan asked the company to let him resign instead of being sacked.

Another ‘character’ of the story , Andranik Margaryan, came to work drunk, got on a bus and went to the quarry. Security officers noted his inadequate physical condition and decided to dismiss him for gross violation of labor discipline. However, the employee asked to be dismissed at his own request.
GeoProMining Company declares that it strictly observes all the norms of the Labor Code and the legislation of the Republic of Armenia, the standards of labor discipline and safety.

GeoProMining was founded in 2001. In Armenia it owns two assets – the Agarak Copper-Molybdenum Combine and GPMGold, which develops the Sotk gold mine and runs the Ararat gold recovery factory.
The company  says over 12 years of operation in Armenia, its investments exceeded $505 million. The company’s social investments over the past 10 years amounted to $ 8.5 million. GeoProMining has about 2,500 employees. –0–

A woman in Ireland, whose Armenian husband—Vahram Harutyunyan—was deported from the country, wants him to be allowed to return, The Irish Times reported.

Harutyunyan has been separated from his family for almost a year.

On August 15 last year the Armenian-born barber, who has lived in Ireland for almost 13 years, was deported, leaving his wife, Viktoria Gagkaeva, and their Irish-born daughter, Alina, behind .

He had gone to Dublin for a regular appointment at the offices of the Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service, but shortly after arrival he was arrested and within 24 hours was on a flight back to Armenia.

Gagkaeva says apart from a five-minute phone call, he never got a chance to say goodbye to his family. After being detained, his phone was taken from him, he was put in prison, and then put on a flight in the early hours of the following morning, she says.

Gagkaeva and Alina went to visit Harutyunyan some weeks ago, but she says Ireland is their home, and she is pleading for her husband to be allowed return.

In a statement the Irish Department of Justice said for reasons of confidentiality neither the Minister nor his officials in the immigration service could comment on individual cases.

132 Armenian citizens were left in Hurghada due to the cancellation of OTF 3703 flight en route Hurghada-Yerevan. Hurghada-Yerevan July 29 flight has also been cancelled, which means that nearly 100 Armenian citizens will face the same problem. The flights are funded by the Government of Armenia.
