RECOLLECTIONS OF KARABAKH WAR: AZERBAIJANIS STORMED THE VILLAGE, MY HUSBAND PUSHED ME TO THE FOREST

May 23, 2014 | 08:30

YEREVAN. – Former resident of Karachinar village of Shaumyan Region
Manya Hovsepyan left home back in 1992.

The 78-year-old woman was forced to flee because of war, she said
sharing her memories with the Armenian News-NEWS.am correspondent.

“I remember every minute of June 13, 1992. That happened at half past
seven. When Azerbaijanis stormed the village, my husband pushed me
in the direction of the forest. I have not seen him so far,” the
woman said.

Her husband, an employee of internal ministry, managed to save his
wife but left in the village to blunt the attack.

Escaping from the village, Manya and her neighbor went to neighboring
Gyulistan village.

“Many people were killed there. The women were baking bread on the
day. They left everything and escaped,” she said. Then, the women
walked to Stepanakert.

Manya Hovsepyan has two sons and two daughters, 12 grandchildren and
five great-grandchildren.

“I was not afraid of anything when my husband was next to me,”
she smiles.

Fleeing Karachinar, the woman left all her belongings, including
documents. “But our house was not destroyed”.

wished success to the proceedings, commended the Assembly for giving special
attention to Genocide centennial preparations and Catholicosate-Prelacy
collaboration, commended the efforts of the Prelacy family as a whole to the

which the Pontiff speaks of the parish as the core and epicenter of the
church, of the pivotal importance of our parishes in the total life of our
church, and that in order to have a church on the global level, we must have
active Prelacies, and in order to have active Prelacies, we must have
organized and dynamic parishes. Mr. Dikijian stressed that it is the duty
and mission of all to bring new life and new horizons in each individual
parish by renewing our commitment to serve and engaging in community
building, so that by strengthening the individually locally we can
strengthen the collective.
Executive Council Chair Mrs. Rima Boghossian reflected with

and teaches them the value of hard work and selfless service.
Briefings by the Religious and Executive Councils and the Board of
Regents followed. The Board of Regents report was presented by Co-Chair
Mrs. Maggie Sarkuni. The addendum to the Executive Council report was
presented by member Dr. Dikran Babikian. After a question and answer
session and a lengthy discussion on the annual activities of the Prelate,
Councils, Schools, and committees serving under their auspices, the Assembly
found all endeavors to be “highly commendable”.

ANC: WE DO NOT WANT TO WORK WITH ILLEGITIMATE AUTHORITIES

May 21, 2014 | 16:50

YEREVAN. – Armenian National Congress (ANC) cannot work with the
leadership formed by illegitimate president Serzh Sargsyan, ANC member
Aram Manukyan said.

“We were accused of unwillingness to work with the authorities. The
answer is as follows: our political team believes we should not work
with the leadership formed by illegitimate Serzh Sargsyan. Those
responsible for March 1 events still remain unpunished. There are
still people facing persecution because of their political views,”
Manukyan said during the hearings on Wednesday.

The government wants to make ANC a participant of “feast in time of
plague”, but the Congress is categorically against the idea.

“Our compatriots are victims of your policy. I have no classmates
left, nearly no friends and acquaintance here. They have left the
country. And you offer us to join your policy? We do not want,”

Opposition Lawmaker Asks Prime Minister How He Amassed His Millions

OPPOSITION LAWMAKER ASKS PRIME MINISTER HOW HE AMASSED HIS MILLIONS

05.21.2014 17:34 epress.am

When did RA Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan or other members of
government manage to amass millions of dollars? Armenian National
Congress (HAK) MP Nikol Pashinyan asked the head of government today
during discussion of the government program in Armenia’s National
Assembly.

The opposition lawmaker asked for an explanation as to why business
has not yet been separated from politics. Pashinyan said that Hovik
Abrahamyan declared $5.5 million (in assets); Minister of Finance
Gagik Khachatryan, $6.5 million; and Chief of RA Government Staff
Davit Harutyunyan declared 6 apartments, one house, one dacha, and
one plot of land.

“Regarding my property, I never hid the fact that I have it. I
declared it. I worked in agriculture during the time when the
law allowed engaging in business. No need to treat entrepreneurs
negatively. It’s because of entrepreneurs that we’re sitting here;
it’s due to them that we raise pensions and salaries. Entrepreneurs
are presented to the public as bugaboos,” said Abrahamyan.

Pashinyan retorted by asking Abrahamyan to teach him how he was able
to amass millions working in agriculture when villagers cultivate
the land but are burdened with bank loans.

“Ask, and I’ll tell you. How do I listen to Mr. Bagratyan [former
prime minister, economist, and HAK MP], if I am not embarrassed to
ask if I lack knowledge in some matter?” Abrahamyan replied.

Pashinyan remarked that he is not against entrepreneurs; he was merely
pointing out that officials engage in business.

“Entrepreneurs create thousands of jobs. You did not feed a single
family in your life — [you] only criticize. This is not the street,
but the National Assembly,” Abrahamyan retorted.

Pashinyan also asked the PM to explain the statement “obligatory
but not imposed” he made yesterday with regard to the law on funded
pension. Pashinyan said in the dictionary the two terms are synonyms.

Abrahamyan praised Pashinyan for reading the dictionary and said he
will follow his example and begin reading dictionaries as well.

Pashinyan’s question, however, remained unanswered.

ANKARA: Status Quo In Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict Is Unacceptable

STATUS QUO IN NAGORNO-KARABAKH CONFLICT IS UNACCEPTABLE

Cihan News Agency, turkey
May 21 2014

BAKU – 21.05.2014 09:50:14

Even though the EU is not an OSCE member, EU representatives
have repeatedly expressed their intention to contribute to the
rapid settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, head of the EU
representative office in Azerbaijan Malena Mard told the media on
May 21.

“Maintaining the status quo is in the interests of neither Azerbaijan
nor Armenia,” she said, “Maintaining the status quo is unacceptable.

The EU supports rapid settlement of the conflict.”

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in
1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a
result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied
20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and
seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs
of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the U.S. are currently
holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council’s four
resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the
surrounding regions.

Le Genocide Des Armeniens 1915-2015: Discours Et Representations

LE GENOCIDE DES ARMENIENS 1915-2015: DISCOURS ET REPRESENTATIONS

Fabula, France
19 mai 2014

Colloque international organise a l’universite Paul-Valery, 5 et 6
fevrier 2015.

Turkish actress Derya Durmaz’s short film “Ziazan” received two awards
from the short film showcase Beyond Borders: Diversity in Cannes,
grabbing the jury’s choice and audience prizes.

Featuring short films that have not been chosen for the Cannes

religious affiliation, since its launch in 2010.

“Ziazan,” which tells the story of a 4-year-old Armenian girl, Ziazan,
as she hides in her uncle’s luggage to get more of the chocolate he
brings her back as a gift from Turkey, was named winner of the award
on Sunday by a jury headed by Lisa Cortés, who is the executive
producer of the critically acclaimed 2009 movie “Precious.”

The short film was deemed worthy of the awards for the transformation
of the title character’s imaginative power into an adventure that is
deeply affecting for the audience, according to a press release from
the publicist of the film.

The two awards from Cannes mark the first time the film has been
honored since its premiere at the SEE a Paris-Festival des Cinémas
du Sud-Est Européen (South-East European Film Festival), where it
won the Special Jury Prize.

Written and directed by Durmaz, the 15-minute film is produced by
