Iran inaugurates new gold-processing plant to boost production

November 15, 2014 – 18:24 AMT

PanARMENIAN.Net – Iran has inaugurated a new gold-processing plant
that will double the country’s annual production to 6 tons, the
country’s state television reported, according to the Associated
Press.

The report said First Vice President Ishaq Jahangiri attended the
inauguration Saturday, Nov 15, of the plant near Takab in northwestern
Iran.

It said the new processing facility, built next to Iran’s Zarshouran
gold mine, also will produce an estimated 2.5 tons of silver and 1 ton
of mercury a year.

Iran previously produced an estimated 3 tons of gold a year.

This is part of Iran’s “economy of resistance” to counter sanctions
imposed over Tehran’s contested nuclear program. The Islamic Republic
is currently negotiating a final deal over its atomic program with
world powers.

Azerbaijani military experts expose Defense Ministry’s fraud about
allegedly ”attacking helicopter”

Military commentator Rashad Suleymanov published a status on his Facebook
page in which he expressed dissatisfaction
with the demonstration of video footage that proves that the NKR Air Force
helicopter was shot down in the Armenian territory and it did not even try
to attack the Azerbaijani positions; this contradicts the version of the
events presented by the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry.

“If tomorrow war starts, there will be no need to send journalists to the
front line. There’s our military armed with Ipad-s and phones,” outrages
the military commentator and notes that the grandparents too sitting by the
road with their iPhones in their hands will work as journalists.

In another status a Suleymanov outrages with
the inaction of the official structures of Azerbaijan in connection with
the distribution of the footage. “I bring to the attention of Alaftun
[Amashev] that the video footage of the downed helicopter published by our
media contradicts with the official information of the Defense Ministry. I
say this as a person familiar with military affairs and the line of
contact,” Suleymanov writes.

He also notes that Azerbaijan cannot carry out war with a press, where work
deserters who “escape” from the army and do not understand anything in
military life.

It is noteworthy that one of the participants of the discussion – a user
named Ruslan Rahimov draws attention to the fact that the Ministry of
Defense of Azerbaijan itself extended the screenshots of this very video.
Another participant of the discussion – military expert Uzeir Jafarov
confesses that he is the author of this video, and notes that the Defense
Ministry would spread a video footage with better quality, if it was
available.

“Rashad, I understand your concern, but no need to worry. Perhaps you are
concerned with the fact that the military servicemen tell the commander
“hit” and that the second helicopter moves off. PERMISSION was granted
officially. The soldiers were simply a bit in a hurry. Ilkin just clicked
on the “button”, Jafarov says.

Another panellist – user named Hagani Safaroglu notes that the official
statement of the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry about the attacking
helicopter and the video footage published in the Azerbaijani media
apparently contradict each other. “What this amateurishness means? Defense
Ministry is obliged to give an explanation,” the user writes.

After this discussion, Aflatun Amashov, the chairman of the Press Council
of Azerbaijan, issued a statement condemning the media for dissemination of
the video. “No journalist could have taken the moment when the helicopter
was shot down. In this case, question arises – how could the media get this
footage. I think that this should be seriously investigated,” Amashev
stated.

As NKR Defense Ministry press service reported earlier, on November 12, at
around 1:45 pm, Nagorno Karabakh Air Forces’ Mi-24 helicopter was shot by
the Azerbaijani Armed Forces during military training flight in the
airspace in the eastern section of Karabakh – Azerbaijan Line of Contact.
The land, on which the incident occurred, is in close proximity to the line
of contact. Opponent after the incident continued intense bombardment scene
from weapons of different caliber. The place where the helicopter was shot
is close to the Line of Contact. The enemy continued to fire shots from
weapons of different calibers after the incident.

Meanwhile, the press secretary of Armenian Defense Minister Artsrun
Hovhannisyan wrote on his Facebook page that Azerbaijani Armed Forces have
carried out an unprecedented provocation on the border with the Republic of
Nagorno Karabakh; this has also led to escalation of the situation. In the
same time the fabrications of the Azerbaijani side, as if the Armenian
helicopters had attacked their positions and they allegedly had merely
responded to this step, are senseless. “The study of the wreckage of the
helicopter will confirm that he was not armed. The escalation of the
Azerbaijani side has continued even after the helicopter fall down.
Moreover, the Azerbaijani side continued shelling, not allowing even to get
closer to the pilots. The consequences of this unprecedented escalation
will be very harmful for the Azerbaijani side and will remain as a stain on
the conscience of the military-political leadership of Azerbaijan. Captain
of the helicopter was Major Sergei Sahakyan. Information about the fate of
the crew will be given later,” Artsrun Hovhannisyan stated.

Armenia has legitimate chance to recognize Karabakh

Haykakan Zhamanak: Armenia has legitimate chance to recognize Karabakh

11:45 * 15.11.14

The paper says it has learned from “well-informed” sources that
Kazakhstan has really voiced a demand for installing a customs
checkpoint between Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh.

The country is said to have raised the question at the Supreme
Eurasian Economic Council’s summit in May.

But the Armenian negotiators reportedly said that such a possibility
can be discussed only in case the country recognizes the
Nagorno-Karabakh Republic. The government representative has told the
paper that in case such a precondition is seriously put forward, it
would be a legitimate chance for Armenia to recognize Karabakh’s
independence.

Pallone Expresses Outrage at Attack on Nagorno Karabakh Helicopter

Rep. Frank Pallone Jr. (D-NJ) News Release
U.S. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES DOCUMENTS

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06), Co-Chair
of the Congressional Caucus on Armenian Issues, released the following
statement upon news of an Azerbaijani attack on a Nargorno Karabakh
helicopter:

“I am outraged and saddened by the Azerbaijani attack on the Nagorno
Karabakh helicopter engaged in a training flight. This is another
instance of aggression by the Azerbaijani government towards Nagorno
Karabakh and Armenia and represents an escalation in their violent
actions that continue to have a destabilizing impact on the region.
There is no longer any question that President Obama must take action
to discourage Azerbaijan from pursuing such violent aggression and to
demonstrate our commitment to peace and stability.

“I encourage President Obama to formally condemn this deadly attack. I
am also calling for the cessation of any military assistance to
Azerbaijan and the strengthening of section 907 of the FREEDOM Support
Act, which restricts aid to Azerbaijan based on its aggression toward
Nagorno Karabakh and Armenia. It is time for both the President and
Congress to ensure that U.S. law once again holds Azerbaijan
accountable for its violent actions.

“The families of those who were killed and all of Nagorno Karabakh’s
citizens remain in my thoughts and prayers.”

Armenia faults Azerbaijan for Karabakh unrest

Armenia faults Azerbaijan for Karabakh unrest

YEREVAN November 13.

. Azerbaijan is to blame for destabilising Nagorno Karabakh, the
landlocked mountainous region in the South Caucasus, Armenia’s
National Assembly parliamentary speaker Galust Saakyan said on
Thursday

Destruction of a helicopter gunship was “one more step Azerbaijan has
taken to disrupt negotiations and undermine all agreements for a
peaceful settlement, building trust and preserving the ceasefire
regime” in a region of conflict between the two countries, he said.

“This is a provocative act staged by Azerbaijani official authorities
seeking to undermine fragile peace and stability in the region. Baku
authorities bear full responsibility for escalation of tension and
attempts to destabilise the situation,” Saakyan added.

Armenia’s Defence Ministry said on November 12 that Azerbaijan’s army
had downed a Mil Mi-24 helicopter of the Nagorno Karabakh defence
army, killing three pilots. Azerbaijan’s military said the helicopter
had attacked their positions and had been destroyed in retaliatory
fire.

Armenia’s Foreign Ministry blames Baku for “blatant violation” of
accords to settle the dispute.

Helicopter incident in Karabakh conflict area poses threat of fresh
escalation – CSTO

MOSCOW. Nov 13

The secretary general of the Collective Security Treaty Organization
(CSTO), Nikolai Bordyuzha, has reiterated the need to prevent any
fresh escalation in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict area after
Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry said its forces had shot down an
Armenian military helicopter violating its airspace.

“Our profound conviction is that it is necessary to prevent any
threatening developments, Bordyuzha was quoted as saying by the CSTO
secretariat. A copy of this statement was forwarded to Interfax-AVN on
Thursday.

It is imperative that the sides to continue to observe the ban on the
use of military force, strictly abide by the ceasefire agreements and
prevent any provocations, he said.

“The destruction of the helicopter was a dangerous manifestation of
violence,” the organization’s secretariat said.

“The threat of a fresh escalation of the conflict has emerged. The
situation in the South Caucasus is growing more and more acute,” it
said.

“A helicopter conducting a training flight was destroyed by the Azeri
side in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict area on November 12. The
helicopter crew was killed,” the CSTO secretariat said.

“This dangerous incident could provoke a further escalation of
tensions in the region and adds to our concerns. Armed incidents have
been occurring almost all the time along the line of contact between
the Azeri and Karabakh forces, as well as on the Armenian-Azeri border
in 2014. The ceasefire agreements were breached approximately 1,500
times over the three summer months alone. Towns and villages were
fired on, as well as the civilian population. Reconnaissance and
sabotage groups were also observed crossing the line of contact. Such
incidents were accompanied by violence and civilian casualties,” it
said.

international human rights laws and identify the best legal arguments
concerning the return of all church and community properties.’

Communiqué of the Armenian Bishops Conference

The Annual Conference of the Armenian Bishops was held under the
leadership of Holinesses Karekin II and Aram I at the Holy Etchmiadzin
with the participation of 61 Bishops from Armenia and Diaspora.

On 11 November the conference began with vespers at the Cathedral and
continued with the Lord’s Prayer at the meeting Hall. After the
messages of Catholios Karekin II and Aram I, the Bishops elected their
officers: Archbishops Yeznik Bedrossian Sebouh Sarkissian,
Co-Presidents, and Bishops Vazken Mirkhanian and Papken Charian,
Co-Secretaries.

During the opening acts the Bishops congratulated His Holiness Karekin
II on the 15th anniversary of his consecration as Catholicos of the Holy
See of Etchmiadzin, and they prayed for the memory of the departed
clergy.

The main agenda of the three-day conference was to adopt a process for
classifying and canonizing the victims of the 1915 Armenian Genocide.
After Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian and Bishop Papken Charian
presented the report on behalf of the sub-committee, the Conference
approved the order of service and the rites, and they decided to hold
the canonization ceremony on 23 April 2015 in Holy Ethmiadzin.

The Bishops decided to add 24 April to the Church Calendar as the day of
commemoration. They adopted the testimonies of the victims and the
canons and hymns to be included in the service and discussed the canons
related to the canonization of Komitas Vartabed and other individuals.

The Bishops received and studied the reports on the rites of Baptism and
Chrismation, adopted the guidelines and proposed a process of
communicating and teaching them. The purpose of the study report was to
harmonize the rite and its practice across all Armenian Churches.

The Conference also discussed current issues and challenges the Armenian
Church and its people are facing.

On 13 November, the last day of the conference, the bishops heard a
presentation by Mr. Viken Sarkissian, coordinator of the 100th
anniversary commemoration programme of the Government of Armenia.

Soccer: Portugal 1-0 Armenia: Ronaldo Settles Scrappy Affair

PORTUGAL 1-0 ARMENIA: RONALDO SETTLES SCRAPPY AFFAIR

Goal.com
Nov 14 2014

Portugal forward Cristiano Ronaldo

By Harry West

Cristiano Ronaldo’s close-range finish earned Portugal a 1-0 win in
a scrappy Euro 2016 qualifier with Armenia in Faro on Friday.

In netting the winner, the Real Madrid forward became the all-time
leading goalscorer in European Championship qualification and finals
combined, his 23rd strike seeing him overtake Dane Jon Dahl Tomasson
and former Turkey striker Hakan Sukur.

It was his 25th goal of the season for club and country and settled
a dour affair which offered little in the way of attacking quality.

That will be of no concern to Portugal, however, which dominated
possession for much of the game and finally made the breakthrough
in the 72nd minute when Ronaldo forced the ball over the line at the
second attempt.

The result leaves Portugal second in Group I, occupying an automatic
qualification spot, one point behind Denmark.

Armenia, who defended stubbornly for much of the encounter, remain
at the foot of the table with just one point to their name from
three matches.

There were notable inclusions at fullback for Portugal, with Jose
Bosinwga making his first appearance for four years, while Rapahel
Guerreiro took his bow on the international stage.

Portugal had much the better of the opening quarter of an hour, but
it was Armenia which had the first meaningful effort on goal when Rui
Patricio got down low to his right to keep out Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s
free kick after the Borussia Dortmund man had been felled by Ricardo
Carvalho.

Ronaldo threatened for the first time midway through the half, seeing
his shot parried by Roman Berezovski before blazing the rebound high
and wide.

As the game opened up, Patricio was forced into a save by Gevorg
Ghazaryan following a swift counter-attack from the visitor.

Portugal continued to enjoy the majority of possession after the
interval, and Danny went close to an opener when his looping header
struck the top of the crossbar before being held by Berezovski under
pressure from Ronaldo.

The forward continued to pose a threat and duly delivered the telling
blow 18 minutes from time.

Substitute Ricardo Quaresma brought a save out of Berezovski and
after Nani stabbed the loose ball toward goal, Ronaldo was on hand
to bundle over the line.

It was Ronaldo who had netted a stoppage-time winner in the 1-0
victory over Denmark last time out, and he delivered when it mattered
once again.

Eder struck the base of the post with a header a minute from time as
Portugal went in search of a second, but Ronaldo’s goal was enough
to secure all three points from what was a labored performance.
