In 2014 the international airports Zvartnots and Shirak provided
services to 2 million 82 thsd passengers – by 324,5 passengers more
than in 2013. So, the passenger flow through the air gates of Armenia
grew by 18,5% in 2014, press-service of Armenian Civil Aviation
General Department (CAGD) reported.

The number of the departed passengers for the reported period
amounted to 1 million 40 thsd, and of the arrived ones – 1 million
42 thsd. In 2014 the departure/arrival favorable balance was about
3 thousand people.

In 2014 the volume of international cargo traffic through the
Armenian airports was 10,4 thsd tons – similar to the volume of the
cargo traffic in 2013, and the number of the flying off/landing grew
by 18,5% – up to 10 553.

To note, it was for the first time over the years of independence
of Armenia that in 2014 the passenger flow through the international
airports of the republic was more than 2 million people.

American Committee on Relief Says Victims of Turks Are Steadily
Increasing ________________________________

POLICY OF EXTERMINATION

________________________________ More Atrocities Detailed in Support
of Charge That Turkey Is Acting Deliberately.

December 15, 1915

In a statement issued yesterday from the offices of the American
Committee for Armenian and Syrian Relief at 70 Fifth Avenue, further
atrocities committed by Turks upon Armenian Christians were detailed
and additional evidence was given to support Lord Bryce’s assertion
that the massacres are the results of a deliberate plan of the Turkish
government to “get rid of the Armenian question,” as Abdul Hamid once
said, by getting “rid of the Armenians.”

Professor Samuel T. Dutton, Secretary of the committee said:

“According to all the best evidence which the American Committee
has received, it is probably well within the truth to say that of
the 2 million Armenians in Turkey a year ago, at least 1 million
have been killed or forced into Islam, or compelled to flee the
country, or have died upon the way to exile, or are now up on the
road to the deserts of Northern Arabia, or are already there. The
number of victims is constantly increasing. Surely there can be no
greater need of immediate help, even in these troublous times, then
the desperate need of the Armenian refugees. The American Committee
has already done much in collecting and sending funds, as has also
the English Committee, but there is still the direst need of generous
contributions. All contributions should be sent to Charles R. Crane,
Treasurer, 70 Fifth Avenue.”

Walter H. Mallory, Executive Secretary of the American Committee, said
that the committee was in close touch with the Lord Mayor’s committee
of London and that “daily authentic reports of almost unbelievable
atrocities” were received. In the statement made public there was
an excerpt from a letter received by the American Committee from the
English committee, which read:

“The committee knows that there are 180,000 refugees still in the
Caucasus besides 30,000 who have died there, and 70,000 who have
returned to parts of Turkey and Persia.

A large part of the statement is taken up with a letter received by
the American Committee from a missionary stationed in Konia. In part,
the letter read:

“Soon after the great deportation that preceded the arrival of the new
Vali, Miss C. and I drove out to Kachin Han, the first station of the
railroad toward Eregli. Just to follow the crowd, as a large number had
been driven off on foot with the expectation of taking the railroad
later on. Kachin Han is about three hours from here by carriage,
and even so near to Konia as this we found about one hundred people,
sitting and lying about the station in utter desolation. They had
been there three days: most of them had eaten up all the provisions
they had and looked haggard and emaciated, veritable famine victims
such as one sees in pictures of a scene in India.

“The train from Konia arrived while we were there, and the greater
number of the of the people dragged themselves to the cars in an
effort to get on board, but were pushed back by the gendarmes, partly
because they had no tickets and partly because there was no room:
so the poor people were forced to turn back.

Sanctions Against Azerbaijan Must Be Applied – Styopa Safaryan

SANCTIONS AGAINST AZERBAIJAN MUST BE APPLIED – STYOPA SAFARYAN

15:15 * 12.01.15

Armenia has entered a stage when prevention of Azerbaijan’s
large-scale actions has become number one problem for both Armenia
and the international community, Styopa Safaryan, founder of the
Armenian Institute of International and Security Affairs (AIISA),
told reporters on Monday.

According to him, this year can hardly be expected a year of
establishment of peace.

“Azerbaijan appears to be implementing a new strategy. It is now
resorting to violence along the Line of Contact whereas in the past
it was content with a position, region or provocations on the dates
of importance for us,” he said.

This is taking place when Armenia is settling its security issues
within the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), as well as amid tensions in
Azerbaijan’s relations with the West. Both before and now President
Aliyev is seeking to aggravate the situation to prevent the “the
movers and shakers” forgetting the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

“One more reason is Armenia’s membership in the EEU. Aliyev is trying
to test Armenia’s security within the EEU, and, I say it with regret,
the conclusions are not in our favor. Aliyev’s desire is also to find
out how well the new alliance is supporting its members. But it is
a little more than positional war or skirmishes,” Mr Safaryan said.

In the international community fails to apply sanctions against
Azerbaijan, grave consequences should be expected not only for Armenia,
but also for Nagorno-Karabakh and for the international community.

“Therefore, we should be aware of extremely high risks this year. I
cannot way we should expect war, but Armenia and Artsakh must be
prepared for effective retaliation,” he said.

Armenia should take advantage of the situation and make Azerbaijan
feel embarrassed in the international arena. However, it is not being
done either at the parliamentary or at the diplomatic level.

ARSENAL AND LIVERPOOL TOLD TO ACT FAST TO BEAT JUVENTUS TO DORTMUND’S HENRIKH MKHITARYAN

16:10, 12 Jan 2015

Liverpool and Arsenal will have to act fast if they want to beat
Juventus to Henrikh Mkhitaryan, according to the player’s agent,
the Daily Express reports.

Reports in Italy suggest the Armenian could be on his way to Juve
this month, despite previously being linked with Arsenal and Liverpool.

However, Mino Raiola, who represents Mkhitaryan believes Dortmund
may not want to let the player go despite his struggles this term.

Raiola told Radio Anch’io Sport: “He’s an extraordinary footballer,
on both a technical and professional level.

“He grew up in Armenia, then moved to Shakhtar Donetsk. He can create
assists and goals, he’s useful to a team.

“He’s suitable for Juve, he can be part of one of the top 10 teams
in the world.

“However, it’s difficult to see Borussia Dortmund letting him go,
but he could bring something extra to the Italian League.

“We’ll see if he can get to Serie A.”

The Guardian: Nagorno Karabakh As One Of The Best New Adventures For

THE GUARDIAN: NAGORNO KARABAKH AS ONE OF THE BEST NEW ADVENTURES FOR 2015

14:31, 12 Jan 2015

The Guardian has included Nagorno Karabakh in the list of best new
adventure destinations for 2015.

“In terms of destination one-upmanship, little can beat
Nagorno-Karabakh. The mountainous enclave is surrounded by Azerbaijan
and under the control of Armenia, although it declared independence
(largely unrecognised) in 1991,” the Guardian writes.

“Border skirmishes and ongoing wrangling for political control mean
it is not for the faint-hearted, but the region has a lot to offer:
mountain monasteries, archaeological sites, ancient cave settlements
and areas of outstanding natural beauty.”

The publication informs that Regent Holidays has a new 11-day group
tour that starts and finishes in Yerevan, the Armenian capital,
and includes seven days in Nagorno-Karabakh (departs 21 September
and 1 October, from £1,590 including flights). It adds, however,
that the British embassy can’t provide assistance in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Other adventures the Guardian recommends in 2015 include desert
exploring and kayaking in Djibouti, cycling in Burma, 2CV rallying in
Spain, mountain trekking in Iraqi Kurdistan, canyoning in the Azores,
horse-riding in Pyrenees, extreme survival in the UK, surfing in
Mozambique, biking challenge in Namibia, sea kayaking in Fiji.

Polarisation.

Haut-Karabagh”, a declare Mazhar Bagli.
