US embassy to remember victims of Armenian genocide

YEREVAN, February 13. / ARKA /. The US Embassy in Armenia will mark
the centenary of the Armenian genocide together with the Armenian
people, the newly appointed US ambassador Richard Mills told a news
conference today.

As for the US government’s participation, the ambassador said
president Obama had the honor to be invited to participate in the
events to mark the centennial anniversary of the Genocide, “but during
my meetings in Washington it was not yet clear who will represent the
US government”, said Mills.

“During my meetings with President Serzh Sargsyan and Foreign Minister
Edward Nalbandian both told me how important the high-level presence
of the United States in the ceremonies is” said Mills.

The Armenian Genocide was the first genocide of the twentieth century.
According to Armenian and many other historians, up to 1.5 million
Armenians were killed starting in 1915 in a systematic campaign by the
government of Turkey. Turkey has been denying it for decades.

The Armenian genocide was recognized by tens of countries. The first
was Uruguay that did so in 1965. Other nations are Russia, France,
Italy, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Poland, Lithuania, Slovakia, Sweden,
Switzerland, Greece, Cyprus, Lebanon, Canada, Venezuela, Argentina, 42
U.S. states.

It was recognized also by the Vatican, the European Parliament, the
World Council of Churches and other international organizations. -0-

Sargsyan lashes out at Tsarukyan, defends constitutional reform

Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) leader Gagik Tsarukyan says President
Serzh Sargsyan is “declaring war” by comments the president made
challenging Tsarukyan’s legitimacy as a political figure. Tsarukyan
says that he is an obstacle to Sargsyan’s ambition to “rule for life”
(through possible constitutional changes) and that Sargsyan will try
to remove him.

“That is his plan. Moving forward I must say that I accept the
challenge and I will fight till victory,” Tsarukyan said at the PAP
political council meeting, after he was called “evil” and a “pseudo
political phenomenon” by Sargsyan.

Not answering Sargsyan’s Thursday keynote speech directly, Tsarukyan
addressed the social-economic problems the country is facing, claiming
that there is only one solution for them.

“There has been a situation since yesterday which demands resolution.

I am sure that the only resolution is complete change of government
by means of early presidential elections.”

In order to achieve change of government and victory Tsarukyan urged
his team members to prepare for the fight.

“If the whole population takes to the streets, the government will
change. I now call for an all-Armenian mobilization with one goal by
all legal political methods – constant rallies, marches, protests,
unrest, to reach Serzh Sargsyan’s resignation – to get rid of the
rule of this evil.”

The PAP leader repeated his popular slogan once again “Our word is
a deed” and said that the biggest mission of his life now is the
task of removing the current ruling regime. “This government must be
dismissed immediately, and we must close this miserable and shameful
page of our history.”

Later on Friday the PAP leader will meet Armenian national Congress
(ANC) head Levon ter-Petrosyan and Heritage Party head Raffi
Hovannisian to discuss future actions.

ABSENCES OF ALL DEPUTIES EXPLORED AT THE NA

15:12 | February 13,2015 | Politics

Today only the representatives of the Republican Party (HHK) have
been at the National Assembly. Only independent deputy Edmon Marukyan
in response to our question about the speech of Serzh Sargsyan said
that he was not going to comment on it. And the Republican deputies,
in particular faction secretary Gagik Melikyan spoke about BHK faction
Head Gagik Tsarukyan’s absences and noted that they were exploring
and would be guided by the NA rules.

It wasn’t possible to speak to the NA President Galust Sahakyan,
instead of him Arsen Babayan, Head of the Information and Public
Relations Department, gave explanations and noted that with the
assignment of the NA President the absences of all the deputies were
being examined and information on that would be published.

In response to the question why Mr. Sahakyan decided to deal with it
right now, Arsen Babayan noted that the President of the NA is free
in his actions and answers to the rest of the questions will be along
with the publication of the survey.

San Lazzaro

Qu’ils soient nés a

Bourne, Ginevra Bria, Adam Budak, David Kazanjian, Berthold Reiss,

salle a Paris.

independant…

TSARUKYAN TO SARGSYAN: OUTCOME IS IN EARLY PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION

Raising the Stakes: Sargsyan ushers in new political conditions by
tackling former coalition partner

Embattled opposition leader Gagik Tsarukyan called for a snap
presidential election as he responded to President Serzh Sargsyan’s
statements during a meeting of his Prosperous Armenia Party’s (PAP)
political council Friday afternoon.

“A situation that requires an outcome has been created since
yesterday. I am convinced that the only outcome is a total change of
power by means of an early presidential election,” Tsarukyan stressed
in his speech.

Addressing senior members of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia
on Thursday evening President Sargsyan, in particular, ridiculed
Tsarukyan as an illiterate man, describing him as an “evil” for the
country and a “pseudo-political phenomenon”. He also announced the
start of the process of “crystallization” of the political arena.

In his speech today Tsarukyan refused to comment on what he described
as personal insults against his character made by Sargsyan. “I won’t
descend to such a low level,” he said

“As for the political farce, then the Armenian people considers the
fact that this government has existed till today to be the real farce.

This is our common shame and time has come to correct the mistakes,”
the PAP leader charged.

Tsarukyan also called for “nationwide mobilization” to get rid of the
“evil” Sargsyan government through all legal means, including nonstop
rallies and demonstrations.

PAP Plans Response To RPA: Tsarukyan To Deliver "Program" Speech

PAP PLANS RESPONSE TO RPA: TSARUKYAN TO DELIVER “PROGRAM” SPEECH

NEWS | 13.02.15 | 10:53

Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) leader Gagik Tsarukyan will deliver a
“program” speech at the Political Council’s meeting scheduled for
Friday noon, according to media reports.

“Tsarukyan will answer all the questions raised by [President] Serzh
Sargsyan and will provide full answers to all the questions that are
of concern to the society,” Zham.am said.

During the late Thursday meeting of the Council of the ruling
Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), President Sargsyan lashed out
at Tsarukyan, describing his political activities as “evil” for
the country. Stressing the “ignorance and illiteracy” of Tsarukyan,
Sargsyan effectively urged the RPA to work towards ousting Tsarukyan
from the political arena.

The PAP did not react to the strong criticism of its leader
immediately. Expressing his “personal view” in an interview with
RFE/RL’s Armenian Service, the party spokesman, Tigran Urikhanyan,
only again criticized Sargsyan and his administration for the economic
and social problems existing in the country.

Karabakh MFA: "Azerbaijani Community" Has Nothing To Do With Karabak

KARABAKH MFA: “AZERBAIJANI COMMUNITY” HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH KARABAKH

19:16, 11.02.2015

STEPANAKERT. – Karabakh Foreign Minister Karen Mirzoyan and EU
special representative on South Caucasus Herbert Salber exchanged
views on several issues, including possibilities and perspective of
cooperation between EU and Karabakh during their meeting, spokesperson
for Karabakh MFA Ani Sargsyan said.

Her comment came in response to Armenian News-NEWS.am’s request to
comment on Azerbaijan’s attempts to present a meeting in the context
of intercommunity dialogue.

“As to Azerbaijani side attempts to draw parallels with the meeting
of Herbert Salber with the so-called Azerbaijani community of
Nagorno-Karabakh, the EU Special Representative and other officials,
as a part of their job, are holding meeting with representatives of
various NGOs. This structure, which proclaims itself the ‘Azerbaijani
community of Nagorno Karabakh’ was registered in Azerbaijan as an NGO
in 2006. Beside its name, it has nothing to do with Nagorno-Karabakh,
and Azerbaijani authorities created it to distort the essence of the
conflict and to politicize the civil peace-building initiatives,”
the spokesperson said.
