French-Armenian political prisoner and a former hero of the Karabakh
liberation war, Sargis Hatspanyan, will be set free tomorrow.

The Penitentiary Department of the Armenian Justice Ministry told
Tert.am that his term of imprisonment expires on Thursday, June 9.

Hatspanyan was jailed over charges of false crime reporting accompanied
by grave or particularly grave crime (Clause 1, Section 2 of Article
333 pf the Armenian Criminal Code).

He had told the media that Armenia’s second president, Robert
Kocharyan, was plotting a death attempt against Serzh Sargsyan.

The opposition alliance Armenian National Congress considers Hatspanyan
a political prisoner. Following the parliament declared amnesty,
Hatspanyan, together with another political prisoner, Murad Bojolyan,
continues to remain in prison. Bojolyan’s term of imprisonment expires
in a couple of days’ time.

Armenian And Georgean Religious Leaders To Visit Javakhq

ARMENIAN AND GEORGEAN RELIGIOUS LEADERS TO VISIT JAVAKHQ
By Hasmik Haroutyunian

AZG DAILY
08-06-2011

His Holiness Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II will pay a visit
to Georgia on June 10. The head of the Information Services of the
Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin Father Vahram Meliqyan said to “Azg”
daily. He also told that the agenda of the Catholicos is very busy.

On June 11, the Catholicos will meet with the Catholicos-Patriarch
of Georgia Ilya II and President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili. On
the second half of the day the Catholicos will visit the pantheon
of Khojivank.

On June 12, His Holiness Karekin II will re-consecrate the church of
Havlabar and will celebrate Mass.

“On June 13 the Armenian Catholicos accompanied with the Georgian
Patriarch will depart for Javakhq. On the next three days the
Catholicos will visit Akhaltskha, Akhalkalak, Ninotsminda and Tsalka”,
said Father Vahram.

In the month of March, during a dialog with “Azg” daily, His Holiness
Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II touching upon the state of the
Armenian churches in Georgia, expressed hope that they will succeed
in registration of diocese of the Armenian Church in Georgia and
in return of the Armenian churches located in Georgia. At that time
the Catholicos mentioned that the diocese of the Armenian Church in
Georgia submitted a request to the Georgian authorities for getting
back the 6 Armenian churches existing in Georgia, as they could serve
the population living there. And now they are waiting for the answer.

“At the meetings that we would have in Georgia we will raise the
issues that concern the diocese of the Armenian Church in Georgia,
as well as the issue of the churches”, said the Catholicos.

“Would the religious leaders discuss the issue of the Armenian
churches at their meeting?” to this question Father Vahram answered,
“All issues, which were concerning over the years, will be discussed”.

The visit of the Armenian Catholicos to Georgia was scheduled in the
past year, but it was delayed to November, and then was cancelled.

Let’s remind that since 1894, when Catholicos of All Armenians Khrimyan
Hayrik visited Javakhq, any Armenian Catholicos did not pay an official
visit to Javakhq.

Potable-Water System Built In Karabakh’s City Of Martuni

POTABLE-WATER SYSTEM BUILT IN KARABAKH’S CITY OF MARTUNI

Armenia

YEREVAN.- The Hayastan All-Armenian Fund fund is currently building
a highly anticipated potable-water system in the city of Martuni,
Artsakh.

The project is carried out thanks to the extraordinary financial
support of Samvel Karapetyan, president of Tashir Group of Companies,
a member of the fund’s Board of Trustees.

When the first phase of the project is completed by the end of this
year, almost two-thirds of Martuni will have around-the-clock access
to water.

The Martuni initiative is the second major water-infrastructure
project in Artsakh to be realized mainly through the support of
Samvel Karapetyan and the Karapetyan Brothers Company, headed by the
benefactor, fund’s press service informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.

The first project of this type, also now underway, is the construction
of Shushi City’s internal water network, financed by Russian-Armenian
industrialists. The lion’s share of their contributions, totaling
around U.S. $1 million, was provided by Samvel Karapetyan.

Today Karapetyan’s gift to the people of Artsakh has become all the
more palpable in the form of the newly constructed Regional Hospital
of Stepanakert.

Armenian Mob ‘Godfather’ Armen Kazarian Gets Sweetheart Deal For Mas

ARMENIAN MOB ‘GODFATHER’ ARMEN KAZARIAN GETS SWEETHEART DEAL FOR MASSIVE MEDICARE FRAUD SCHEME
BY Scott Shifrel

New York Daily News

June 7 2011

An Armenian mob “godfather” who was facing a life sentence for a
massive Medicare fraud scheme has cut a 3-year sweetheart deal with
prosecutors.

The “vor” – an Armenian word similar to the word “don” used for
Italian mob lords – admitted Monday to making threats and other
crimes in exchange for the light sentence. The final details of the
plea were put off for a week.

“I was involved in a criminal conspiracy,” Armen Kazarian, 47, said
through a translator.

He and dozens of other Armenian gangsters were charged last October
with setting up at least 118 “phantom” clinics that, with stolen I.D.s,
ripped off more than $35 million in federal funds.

Federal District Judge Paul Gardephe cautioned Kazarian that he could
not appeal if he was “sentenced to 37 months or less.” Kazarian agreed.

After 20 minutes of protracted translations, however, Gardephe stopped
the plea as incomplete.

“I’m not hearing the element of a (racketeering) conspiracy,” he
told prosecutors.

“We’re having a devil of a time translating from English to Armenian
to English again,” famed Californian defense lawyer Mark Geragos told
the judge.

Gardephe granted Kazarian and prosecutors another week to work on
the language.

When prosecutors crached the ring, they said the Armenian mob “puts
the traditional Mafia to shame.”

So far, only two others – Rafik Terdjanian and Karen Aharonian –
have pleaded guilty.

Charges in the takedown were also filed in California, Georgia,
New Mexico and Ohio, against more than 70 other mobsters.

In all, they falsely billed the government for $160 million.

Turkey’s AKP Will Win Parliamentary Majority, Expert Says

TURKEY’S AKP WILL WIN PARLIAMENTARY MAJORITY, EXPERT SAYS

PanARMENIAN.Net
June 7, 2011 – 15:47 AMT

PanARMENIAN.Net – AKP Justice and Development Party will definitely
win Turkey’s parliamentary elections in June, according to Turkish
studies expert.

As Varuzhan Geghamyan told a news conference in Yerevan, AKP has
every chance to make the majority in the parliament. “Scandals around
the party and attacks on Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan
cannot but affect his authority,” the expert added.

Commenting on the demolition of Kars-based monument to humanity
symbolizing Armenian-Turkish friendship, as well as the Turkish
society’s resentment concerning the fact, the expert characterized
the response as a PR action rather than a sincere emotion.

Cheese and honey monument will be erected instead of the Monument to
Humanity, the symbol of Turkish-Armenian friendship in Kars province
of Turkey. Visiting Kars on January 8, Turkish Prime Minister Recep
Tayyip Erdogan reportedly described the monument as a “monstrosity”
that overshadows a nearby Islamic shrine.

L’euthanasie Perd Un Grand Avocat

L’EUTHANASIE PERD UN GRAND AVOCAT

armenews.com
mardi 7 juin 2011

Le Concert Du Jour: System Of A Down A Bercy (Paris)

LE CONCERT DU JOUR: SYSTEM OF A DOWN A BERCY (PARIS)

Concertlive.fr

6 juin 2011
France

Les fans de System of a Down
