Iran launches carbon fiber production amid sanctions

Iran launches carbon fiber production amid sanctions

August 27, 2011 – 15:33 AMT

PanARMENIAN.Net – Iran has inaugurated its own production of carbon
fiber, a material under U.N. embargo because of its potential use in
the country’s controversial nuclear program, AP reported citing
official IRNA news agency.

Defense Minister Gen. Ahmad Vahidi said Iran decided to manufacture
the strategic material domestically since it could no longer access
carbon fiber on foreign markets because of the international
sanctions.

“Because of the restrictions imposed by the enemies, Iran faced
challenges in getting access to carbon fiber,” Vahidi said. “That had
caused a bottleneck in Iran’s production of advanced and smart defense
systems,” he said, claiming Iran has mastered the entire process of
carbon fiber production.

Iran uses carbon fiber for more advanced centrifuges, which spin
uranium gas to produce enriched uranium. Low-enriched uranium can be
used as nuclear fuel while highly enriched uranium can be used in a
warhead.

Carbon fiber is extremely strong, light and flexible, with high
tolerance for heat. It can be used in aerospace and civil engineering,
as well as for military purposes. Its production is extremely complex.

Because of the UN ban on sales of carbon fiber to Iran, Tehran has
previously had to buy it on foreign markets, presumably through
middlemen. It has not disclosed where it obtained previous batches.

In a tirade of charges and counter-charges, the faltering dialog
between the Armenian government and the opposition based HAK (Armenian
National Congress) ground to a halt on Friday.

The HAK pulled out of the next scheduled meeting yesterday at the last
minute, claiming that they could not continue to “dialog” when Tigran
Arakelyan, one of their young activists, arrested earlier this month,
remains in police detention.

In a statement, the HAK accused the government of going back on its
pledge to work for the immediate release of the activist.

In turn, the government’s delegation to the talks said that it had
never made such a pledge and accused the HAK of intentionally
spreading lies.

“We regret not so much your lies as the fact that we have started not
trusting in you,” the coalition’s negotiating team stated.

The coalition team said the issue of the continued arrest of the HAK
activist was a legal matter and not one to be discussed during the
ongoing political process.

“We will repeat what we said during the previous meetings: we did not,
do not and will not link the issue of the young man involved in the
incident with this important political process because it completely
lies on a legal plane,” read the coalition statement.

HAK representative Levon Zurabyan continues to argue that the activist
remains in custody “contrary to mutual understandings and assurances.”

de miel contre 3 000 tonnes l’an dernier.

It Is Good That There Is Direct Contact Between The Opposing Politic

IT IS GOOD THAT THERE IS DIRECT CONTACT BETWEEN THE OPPOSING POLITICAL PARTIES

armradio.am
25.08.2011

Another couple of months called for patience today while speaking
to the former university rector and the government’s dialogue on
the results. It is still too early to think of a politician, which
assesses the effectiveness of dialogue for the ANC’s proposed agenda.

In general the power to negotiate different times of the opposition
movement led by representatives from various political figures,
but as a community always disappointed in this dialogue: Power –
Congress today’s dialogue is gradually observed a similar attitude.

So far, the negative opinions voiced opposition to the other
participants, some of the dialogue meetings have been called “an
evening of reading.”

At the moment, it’s good that there is direct contact between the
opposing political parties, says Arman Melikyan said. “At this point
it is better to sit at the table, than when one of the media in use,
the other is the Theatre Square.”

“As a result of this dialogue is to bring the barren sides of Armenia,
it is useful for the public, because the ANC and the government can
come up into reasonable solutions that benefit the public, if not to
acceptable solutions, both loan and they will fall into the third, the
fourth alternative demand will become more obvious. Besides, if the
parties reach an overall total and the benefit of these decisions,
it will lead to enlargement of the political field is the small
political leech-parties that come election time, the search form
field and it is positive. ”

According to Arman Melikyan, must arm themselves with patience for
the next two months, after that time will come for real action and
more public work: The evaluation of Arman Melikyan, he in any case,
the dialogue for the ANC’s proposed agenda is completely ineffective
as only early elections DIALOGUE give any results, sure to be a
politician.

This survey is also skeptical of the Baptist’s “A special election
may not be direct, but more choices for organizing and coalition
forces are ready to discuss the legislative, administrative and other
opportunities to use it will proceed from the interests of our nation,
our state’s and future elections in view of the most controversial
and not acceptable. ”

A member expressed the hope that this time the dialogue will be
fruitless, though election-related issue: “I do not believe that when
discussing the issue, or the choice of EC on the issue, there is no
benefit from it: There is a benefit: Perhaps it is political power. I
think for us it seems that everything is realistic to assume that
code, and the true benefit of the public, but if the opposite side
to find questions and emphasize the code improves, I think that it
will not win the electoral system and electoral process. And this is
our community’s interest. ”

Hovnanian, Krikorian And Mathevosian Must Not Obstruct Plans To Open

HOVNANIAN, KRIKORIAN AND MATHEVOSIAN MUST NOT OBSTRUCT PLANS TO OPEN ARMENIAN GENOCIDE MUSEUM ON APRIL 24, 2015

August 24, 2011

In a July 26 press release, the Cafesjian Family Foundation (CFF)
announced its decision to go ahead with the laudable project of
building an Armenian Genocide Museum & Memorial (AGM&M), two blocks
from the White House, by April 24, 2015, on the 100th anniversary of
the Armenian Genocide.

APPO K. JABARIAN

Executive Publisher & Managing Editor

The project was initially put on hold because of a long-running legal
battle between former partners the CFF and the Armenian Assembly. The
court case came to a conclusion in January.

In February, Harut Sassounian, Publisher of The California Courier
wrote: “The most significant outcome of the protracted litigation
is Judge Kollar-Kotelly’s ruling that the reversion clause in the
Grant Agreement is ‘valid and enforceable,’ which means that CFF is
entitled to a return of the properties earlier donated to the Armenian
Assembly. Furthermore, the court ruled that CFF retains the right to
appoint one of four trustees to the AGM&M Board.”

To its credit, CFF had renewed its commitment in the court to construct
the museum. Judge Kollar-Kotelly’s ruling had finally paved the way
for the realization of the original plan. However, this noble plan ran
into several new obstacles caused by the Foundation’s former partners,
Hirair Hovnanian, Van Krikorian and Anoush Mathevosian who are key
leaders of the Armenian Assembly, and former officers of AGM&M.

As per the Judge’s decisoin, effective July, CFF took title to the
property assemblage for the future site of the AGM&M.

In order to register the title, CFF was obliged to pay some $2,000,000
in back taxes, penalties and recordation taxes from 2009 to the
transfer date of July 1 of this year that the officers of the AGM&M
refused to pay. By declining to pay property taxes over this period
of time, AGM&M officers Hovnanian, Krikorian and Mathevosian risked
the properties being auctioned off and encumbered the project with
over $260,000 in interest and penalties, stated the press release
issued by CFF.

“Regrettably, securing title to the properties just two blocks from
the White House does not pave the way for immediate launch of the
project to construct the museum and memorial in time for the centenary
date of April 24, 2015,” lamented the CFF. Legal maneuvers initiated
by Hovnanian, Krikorian and Mathevosian may hold up the construction
of the Armenian Genocide Museum in Washington, DC and may ultimately
cause missing the cornerstone deadline of April 24, 2015.

“The appeal process could take up to two years if the losing side
(Hovnanian, Krikorian and Mathevosian) stalls at every step. This
could have the intended consequence of blocking progress,” pointed
out CFF Board Member Ross Vartian.

In making matters even worse, the leadership of the Armenian Assembly
reportedly “has refused to vacate one of the buildings on the future
site of the Armenian Genocide museum and memorial.” The property
partially occupied by the Armenian Assembly, and others owned by
CFF are slated for demolition in preparation for the construction
of the museum. The said properties are adjacent to the historically
designated former “National Bank of Washington” building. CFF has asked
Judge Kollar-Kotelly to invalidate the Assembly’s lease so that the
project can move forward in time to meet the April 24, 2015 completion
deadline. However, the Assembly leadership has opposed CFF’s request,
indicating that the organization intends to remain on the premises
through 2015.

During four years of legal feud, the Assembly and AGM&M had accused
Gerald Cafesjian and John Waters (Vice President of CFF) for having
breached their fiduciary duties to AGM&M and the Assembly; that
Cafesjian breached his duty of good faith and fair dealing to the
Assembly, and that Cafesjian and Waters misappropriated the trade
secrets of the Assembly. The Judge found all of these charges to be
without merit.

Sassounian noted that for the first time in a federal court verdict,
Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly began her 190-page ruling with the
chilling words of Adolf Hitler: “Who, after all, speaks today of the
annihilation of the Armenians?” She went on to explain that Hitler
was referring to “the largely successful efforts by the Ottoman
Turkish government to eliminate the Armenian population living on its
historical homeland during the World War I era, known today as the
Armenian Genocide.” The Judge further added: “The Armenian Genocide
is widely recognized as the first genocide of the 20th century. Of
the estimated 2.1 million Armenians living in the Ottoman Empire
on the eve of World War I, approximately 1.5 million were killed,
and hundreds of thousands more were deported. During this period,
the Armenian people were subjected to deportation, expropriation,
forced conversion, abduction, torture, massacre, and starvation.”

I therefore join several members of the Armenian American community
in appealing to Hovnanian, Krikorian and Mathevosian, the leaders
of the Assembly, to heed to the calling of martyred victims of the
Armenian Genocide and set aside their personal differences with
Cafesjian; and join the rest of the community in making this lasting
accomplishment a reality. The one and one half million martyrs of
the Armenian Genocide desperately need to be solemnly memorialized
by a museum in the nation’s capital on the 100th anniversary of the
1915-1923 crime against humanity perpetrated by Turkey.

The realization of this noble goal will most definitely be a living
memorial to the legacy of Hovnanian, Krikorian and Mathevosian, and
the Armenian Assembly along with all others involved in this project.

Conversely, their obstinate obstruction of this worthwhile project
because of petty personal vendettas against Cafesjian and CFF will
come back to haunt them.

“The recent speech of the Armenian president showed that strained
situation is continued in Armenia”, member of the Political Council of
the New Azerbaijan Party (YAP), MP Aydin Mirzazadeh told YAP’s website.

Mirzazadeh said Armenia wouldn’t leave its aggressive policy if it
didn’t face a power. “That is another story that Sargsyan doesn’t know
diplomatic rules and doesn’t regard the norms of international law.

Armenia’s official ideology and policy failed. Sargsyan attempts to
arm the Armenian youth with radical ideas and to involve them in the
way of Armenian terrorist groups abroad. The policy pursued by the
Azerbaijani President stalemated Armenia. The country was isolated
from the international projects and its socio-economic situation
is worsening day by day. As a result of right policy pursued by
Azerbaijan, Armenia was stalemated at the negotiations”.
