AZERBAIJAN SAYS INT’L COMMUNITY HOLDS UNFAIR POSITION ON KARABAKH CONFLICT

Azerbaijan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ali Hasanov accused the
international community of holding an unfair position in the
Nagorno-Karabakh dispute.

“Although the UN and the OSCE has been dealing with the
Nagorno-Karabakh conflict for over 20 years, still there is no
achievement. When there is a need for energy resources, all need
Azerbaijan. But why isn’t the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict resolved? The
main reason for this is injustice reigning in the world,” Hasanov said
speaking at an international conference marking the 20th anniversary
of Azerbaijan’s state independence.

He said everyone is trying to resolve the conflict, but injustice
should be eliminated before a settlement.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988
when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian
armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992,
including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding districts.

Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The
co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group – Russia, France, and the U.S. –
are currently holding the peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council’s four
resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the
surrounding regions.

TURKEY HAS TO CONSIDER ITS OWN SECURITY, ABOVE AND BEYOND

News.Az interviews Ergun Kirlikovali, president-elect of the Assembly
of Turkish-American Associations and co-founder of the Pax Turcica
Institute.

What should be done to restore trust and strategic partnership between
Turkey and Israel?

A simple apology from Israel with proper compensation paid to the
families of the Turkish victims of “Aid Raid” would go a long way
towards building goodwill. There is still time.

Had this crisis influence on collaboration between Turkish and Jewish
diasporas in the U.S.?

Although this problem is between governments, not people, it is
impossible not to be unaffected by it. I am watching the news with
concern as the conflict deepens due to strange, needless, and arrogant
insistence of Israel on its blatant mistake. People of Turkish and
Israeli Diasporas are maintaining their friendship but no one can
deny the cold winds blowing around it.

May this crisis concern somehow Azerbaijan and support from Jewish
lobby in the U.S. some of initiatives concern Azerbaijan?

This issue, sooner or later, will engulf Azerbaijan. Consider, for
example, the scenario where the Jewish lobby, in order to punish
Turkey, decides to support that perennial, bogus Armenian genocide
resolution and/or back legislation introduced by the Armenian lobby
increasing aid to the occupied Azerbaijani lands in Karabagh, do you
think Azerbaijan can stay silent in the face of such grave insult
and act of hostility? I don’t think so.

And what about problems between Turkey and Iran caused after Turkish
agreement to establish American radars on its territory? Does it mean
that interests of the Turkish ally ~V the U.S. ~V are above policy
of Muslim solidarity conducting by the PM Erdogan?

Iran’s nuclear or non-nuclear long range missile threat to Turkey
needs to be considered, too. Turkey (and NATO) insist that the radars
to be erected in Turkey aree for defensive use only. If Iran doesn’t
plan to attack or harm Turkey, Iran has nothing to worry about.

Turkey has to consider its own security, above and beyond, real or
perceived solidarity policies. Reagan used to say “Trust but verify”
about the mutual reduction of nuclear arsenal; I guess it can be
translated into this situation as “Trust but deter.”

BAKU: Armenians ‘Have Sick Psychology’

ARMENIANS ‘HAVE SICK PSYCHOLOGY’

Armenia pursues unrealistic dreams.

The statement came from senior official at Youth and Sports Ministry
of Azerbaijan Farhad Hajiyev at a conference ‘Role of culture of peace
and promotion of human rights in patriotic upbringing of the youth’
held as part of the ‘Month of Peace.’

He said Azerbaijan will always advocate peace as a peace-loving state
and will recover the occupied lands through peace.

‘In fact, we are ready for war. Azerbaijan needs peace and stability
most of all. I am confident that Azerbaijan will regain the lands it
has lost with the help of correct policies,’ Hajiyev added.

The senior official noted it was impossible to compare Azerbaijan
and Armenia as they have different way of thinking.

‘They are still talking about a history that does not belong to them
while we are developing and strengthening our standing in international
community. Armenians have sick psychology. They pursue dreams far
from reality,’ Hajiyev noted.

Inclusion of the issue of state in the occupied lands of Azerbaijan
to the 66th session of the UN General Assembly is achievement of
our diplomacy.

The expected discussion of the issue in the General Assembly shows
that our country holds a consistent policy, which is proven by the
fact that Azerbaijan exposes the aggressive policy of Armenian on all
levels and attains fair decision of the international organizations.

The statement came from MP Mubariz Gurbanly in a statement to the
ruling party’s website.

He said that by voting against the issue Armenia demonstrates violation
of norms of principles of international law. He said that Azerbaijan’s
stance on Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement is based on principles
of international law.

‘Norms and principles of international law set the territorial
integrity and sovereignty to a foreground. Meanwhile, territorial
integrity and sovereignty issues are the main aspects set forth by
Azerbaijan in these negotiations’.
