Sargsyan Disagreed With Tsarukyan

SARGSYAN DISAGREED WITH TSARUKYAN

Story from Lragir.am News:

Published: 11:09:48 – 29/12/2011

During the ceremony organized by the National Olympic Committee to
honor the sportsmen, Serzh Sargsyan disagreed with the thought of
Gagik Tsarukyan that the sportive year of 2011 was a year of pending.

It seems clear why Tsarukyan described the year so. The point is that
Armenia did not have achievements in its traditional sports – boxing,
wrestling, weightlifting – this year. The reasons are different,
objective and subjective but the fact is that Armenia did not have
significant achievements.

Only football and chess were significant, which Serzh Sargsyan
stressed, saying that the successful play of the Armenian national
football team was significant, and the chess team became world
champion.

However, the point is that both Serzh Sargsyan and Gagik Tsarukyan
are right. Football and chess are not Gagik Tsarukyan’s profile.

In Armenia, everything like sports is divided between different
groups in power. Football is Ruben Hairapetyan’s, while chess is
Serzh Sargsyan’s. Gagik Tsarukyan’s “profile” is sports involving one
sportsman and physical strength, where the year was a failure indeed,
therefore Tsarukyan described it as pending.

However, Serzh Sargsyan was right regarding his “profile”, disagreeing
that it was a year of pending.

In other words, Sargsyan hinted that they advanced in their profiles
(Ruben Hairapetyan is one of the oligarchs from the entourage of the
president), while Tsarukyan marked time.

By the way, in terms of “sports profiles”, it is worthwhile to remember
a case from the Armenian and Turkish football diplomacy.

After the game Turkey-Armenia which Serzh Sargsyan and Ruben
Hairapetyan attended, the reporters asked Gagik Tsarukyan why he
was not present in the game where the Armenian team played badly,
the leader of the BHP said he goes when he is sure of victory.

Environmentalists Protest Government Decision To Exploit Kajaran Lan

ENVIRONMENTALISTS PROTEST GOVERNMENT DECISION TO EXPLOIT KAJARAN LANDS

Tert.am

Several environmentalists gathered outside the Government building
earlier today to protest against a decision to hand over six community
lands in the southern region of Syunik (including Kajaran village)
to the Zangezur Copper and Molybdenum Plant.

With slogans reading “Eco Colonists”, “Save our Homeland” etc.,
the protesters called for declaring the decision invalid.

Activists of the youth group who had earlier campaigned for
the protection of the Trchkan waterfall, members of Sardarapat
initiative, representatives of the opposition Heritage party, and
other political and civil society organizations had gathered together
to protect the lands of Kajaran village from exploitation. Speaking
to reporters, Kajaran governor said he will not sign decision under
any circumstances.

Policemen later approached the crowd, asking them to free the
territory, but an environmental activist, Apres Zohrabyan said they
were waiting for the Government’s response to their letter. The
protesters later headed towards the Presidential Office.

Hrant Dink’s Lawyers Demand Details Of Phone Records

HRANT DINK’S LAWYERS DEMAND DETAILS OF PHONE RECORDS

Tert.am
29.12.11

During the 23rd court hearing of slain Armenian journalist Hrant Dink
case, one of the lawyers of Dink family said the phone conversations
that Telecommunications Directorate (TIB) provided to the court do
not include all the records from the area.

Suspect Yasin Hayal is under pressure not to disclose significant
information, Fethiye Cetin, one of the prosecution lawyers representing
the family of Hrant Dink, a Turkish-Armenian journalist assassinated
in 2007, said yesterday.

“When we consider the four-year-long trial process, it seems apparent
we have not made any progress, even though all the guilty parties
are manifest,” lawyer Cetin told the Hurriyet Daily News.

The 23rd hearing of the Dink trial began yesterday at 11:05 a.m.,
approximately two hours late due to the delayed arrival of suspects
Yasin Hayal and Erhan Tuncel. The hearing yielded no results, however,
and the case is still stuck in a deadlock.

“Yasin Hayal’s mental health is quite balanced. He can divulge a
lot of things, but he is under pressure from different quarters not
to talk. Nevertheless, he would be saying a lot if he could speak,”
Cetin said.

Cetin also said they had met with Bahattin Hayal, suspect Yasin Hayal’s
father, who had claimed to be in possession of important information
pertinent to the case. But he divulged nothing the prosecution did
not already know about, she said.

Meanwhile, a group of 200 people gathered in Istanbul’s BeÅ~_iktaÅ~_
district and marched toward the Istanbul’s Court for Serious Crimes
in protest of the apparent lack of progress in the case.

Demonstrators included Hrant Dink’s wife Rakel Dink and his brother
Orhan Dink, as well as Sezgin Tanrıkulu, the deputy leader of the
opposition People’s Republican Party (CHP), Levent Tuzel, an Istanbul
deputy of the Peace and Democracy Party (BDP), and other high-profile
figures.

“[Phone] records from the Telecommunications Directorate (TİB)
dominated the public’s attention throughout this one year, and
especially since May. TİB records were of course important, but it
should not be forgotten we are talking about thousands of records. The
truly important thing, we believe, was the silence of those caught
on camera footage on the day of the murder,” Cetin said.

The Dink family’s lawyers also raised an objection to the trial of the
suspects in the Black Sea province of Trabzon solely on the charge of
“dereliction of duty,” according to the Dogan news agency.

“These men have solely been tried on the charge of dereliction of
duty, whereas they are partners in manslaughter through dereliction,”
prosecution lawyer Bahri Belen said in relation to claims gendarmerie
commanders Ali Oz and Metin Yıldız had been notified about the
murder six months earlier by suspect CoÅ~_kun İgci, Yasin Hayal’s
brother-in-law.

The Dink family’s lawyers had prepared a 200 page file connecting the
history of the Armenian issue with the murder and read the document’s
first half during the previous hearing.

While the first half of the file was primarily about the historical
dimension of the problem, the second half read a variety of other
topics, including indictments, the suspects’ testimonies and other
relevant assessments.

The Dink family’s lawyers also argued in favor of merging the two
separate case files in Istanbul and the Black Sea province of Samsun.

Dink, a Turkish journalist of Armenian origin, was the chief editor
for weekly Agos, a paper published in both Turkish and Armenian. He
was shot in front of his office in January 2007. Triggerman Ogun
Samast was sentenced to 22 years in prison last month for the murder.

Genocide Armenien : Que S’Est-Il Passe En 1915-1916 ?

GENOCIDE ARMENIEN : QUE S’EST-IL PASSE EN 1915-1916 ?
Jean Eckian

Loi/Genocide : C’Est Une Erreur, On Ne Legifere Pas Sur La Memoire

LOI/GENOCIDE : C’EST UNE ERREUR, ON NE LEGIFERE PAS SUR LA MEMOIRE
Stephane

armenews.com
mardi 27 decembre 2011

Loi/Genocide : La Turquie Menace Tout Le Monde Estime Devedjian (UMP

LOI/GENOCIDE : LA TURQUIE MENACE TOUT LE MONDE ESTIME DEVEDJIAN (UMP)
Stephane

armenews.com
mercredi 28 decembre 2011

Israel Debates Recognizing Armenian Genocide

ISRAEL DEBATES RECOGNIZING ARMENIAN GENOCIDE

National Post

Dec 27 2011
Canada

Talks come after France defied Turkish demands by outlawing denial
of the Armenian genocide, a move Turkey decried as playing politics
and claimed was “based on racism.”

Relations between the countries were damaged last year when Israeli
forces killed nine Turks in a raid on a Turkish ferry, part of an
activist flotilla seeking to breach Israel’s naval blockade of Gaza.

Not all in Israel’s government approve of the idea. Foreign ministry
representative Irit Lillian says their “relations with [Turkey] are so
fragile today, it is not right to push them over the red line. … Such
a recognition at this stage could have severe ramifications.”

JERUSALEM – An Israeli parliamentary committee held a landmark
discussion on recognizing genocide in Armenia on Monday, a move likely
to further strain already tense relations with Turkey.

During the discussion on the “Jewish people’s recognition of the
Armenian genocide,” as defined by the committee, lawmakers, historians
and members of the local Armenian community stressed Israel’s moral
obligation to officially recognize the Armenian tragedy as a genocide.

The committee did not, however, make any decisions or issue any
declaration, and will meet again on the issue in the future.

In past years, the Knesset held hearings on the subject, but only
behind the closed doors of its foreign and defence committee.

This was the first time such a discussion was open to the public.
