GYUMRI FAMILY CLAIM TO BE KARDASHIAN RELATIVES (PHOTO)

YEREVAN. – Armenia’s Gyumri city Kardashian family are sure they are
the far relatives of the Armenian American TV star Kim Kardashian.

They hope to have the opportunity to meet the Kardashian family during
their expected visit to Armenia. Martoun Kardashian, 70, told Armenian
News – NEWS.am that he found out about the star’s expected arrival
in Armenia two days ago.

“One of my relatives rang me up and congratulated me on the arrival of
my relative. I was both surprised and happy,” Martoun Kardashian said.

Mr Kardashian was born in Gyumri. According to his parents, their
ancestors had migrated from Kars. He also knows that several Kardashian
families resided in the United States, that’s why he is sure that
the father of the famous TV star must have been his relative.

“My father used to say he had brothers, but I don’t remember them.

I’ve also heard about my grandfather’s many brothers who were all
killed by the Turks. With the years Kardashians scattered all over
the world,” Martoun said.

He also told that some Kardashian families who used to live in
Vanadzor City have also died long ago. Currently some Kardashian
families mainly live in Gyumri, the others in Artik city.

Martoun Kardashian is the youngest of his four brothers, who have
died. His only sister lives in Yerevan.

During Kim Kardashian’s visit to Armenia, it is planned to perform
shootings for the Keeping up with Kardashians reality show. Part of
the shootings will take part in Gyumri.

BILGI UNIVERSITY MAKES ARMENIAN GENOCIDE CONFERENCE STATEMENT, CONFERENCE TEAM RESPONDS

Ä°stanbul Bilgi University has made a statement regarding the
blocking of the conference titled “The Armenian Genocide: Concepts
and Comparative Perspectives” planned to be held at the university
on April 26.

The statement claims that it is not true that the university has
cancelled the aforementioned conference, adding that an official
request to organize the conference was never submitted to the rector’s
office, and that therefore the university could not be said to be
hosting such an event.

Reservation application made months ago

However, the conference organization team, in their statement to Agos,
explained that the university’s statement did not reflect the truth
and that the application for venue reservation was made months ago.

The statement read, “In accordance with the official procedures of
Bilgi University, first a venue reservation was made, and when the
program of the event became clear, the event application was prepared,
signed and presented to the events department under the General
Secretary on 17 March 2015.” The team added that the conference had
been announced on the events page of the university, but that it was
then removed when they had been notified by e-mail that the venue
reservation had been cancelled.

The conference organization team concluded their statement with the
words, “The blocking of this conference, which we aimed to realize
as a necessity of our profession, is an intervention to and breach
of academic freedom and freedom of expression. This prevention
unfortunately also harms the well-deserved, positive image of our
university built over many years.”

ARE FILMMAKERS TELLING A LIE ABOUT BAGRATYAN? (VIDEO)

Armenia’s former Prime Minister Hrant Baghratyan today responded to
the accusations made by filmmakers. Talking to reporters on April 6,
filmakers complained of the quality of modern films. Filmmaker Edgar
Baghdasaryan even recalled the words of the former Prime Minister
[Hrant Bagratyan], who said during his tenure in office that filmmakers
and sausage manufacturers should be taxed in the same way.

This led to the fact that the movie slowly turned into a sausage,”
Edgar Baghdasaryan said.

“This is very interesting, given the fact that I was the first to
order that films be made by state order in the difficult years of the
war. It speaks of the miserable condition of some ‘representatives’ of
our intelligentsia. By the way, taxes were included in these orders,”
said Bagratyan. In comparison, I can say that filmmakers today are
not paid more than they received in 1994-1996. So, what is the problem?

These intellectuals are displeased but they cannot express their
displeasure with the current government, otherwise, they will lose
everything. They think they must say something to reduce their pain.

They think their words will find the right addressee. Can they bring
any evidence that I said such things?” said the former PM.

ARMENIAN TROOPS DEPART FOR TRAINING IN EUROPE

YEREVAN, APRIL 6, ARMENPRESS: On April 3, Ambassador Mills joined
Armenian members of the Armenian Peace Keeping Brigade at Zvartnots
Airport to send off 36 Armenian peacekeepers to participate in
Saber Junction 15, a USAREUR-led Decisive Action Training Environment
exercise designed to train a brigade-level unit to operate with allied
and partner nations as part of a combined force. This exercise takes
place across Germany, Lithuania and Romania until April 30. Saber
Junction 15 prepares NATO and partner-nation armies for offensive,
defensive and stability operations and promotes interoperability
among participants.

Saber Junction 15 participation includes 17 nations and will train more
than 5,000 service members. These nations include the following NATO
Allies: Albania, Belgium, Bulgaria, Great Britain, Hungry, Latvia,
Lithuania, Luxemburg, Macedonia, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Turkey,
and the United States; and the following NATO Partnership for Peace
(PfP) nations: Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Sweden.

The joint Armenian-U.S. exercise is underwritten by a Memorandum of
Understanding between the Armenian Ministry of Defense and the U.S.

Army in Europe.

KANYE WEST WILL JOIN KIM KARDASHIAN ON TRIP TO ARMENIA

Kanye West will accompany wife Kim Kardashian and daughter Nori
on their upcoming trip to Armenia next week, X17online can report
exclusively.

The trio will be in Kim’s ancestral country just ahead of the 100th
anniversary of the genocide of Armenian people, on April 24.

Kim dropped her first hint of the trip back in January, when she
explained that her then-platinum blonde ‘was only temporary and that
she’d return to being a brunette ahead of her trip to Armenia. It
wasn’t certain when she’d be traveling and if Kanye and North would
come with her, but X17online can report exclusively, that Kim will
travel with her hubby and daughter and that they’ll head there
next week.

It’s still unclear whether Kim will participate in an commemorative
events but it IS clear that she wants to pass on to her family some
education about her heritage. Kim’s dad Robert, the famous OJ Simpson
attorney who died from cancer in 2003, was an immigrant from the
country and apparently Kim wants to connect to that history.

Director of Armenian-American Health Centre, Khachanush Hakobyan,
is glad to announce that the discounts announced at the Centre on
the occasion of Women’s Month will last for another week.

“After we announced discounts, we saw a significant increase in the
number of patients visiting our Centre. Also, 14 cases of cancer
were detected by screening mammography. Most of these patients were
unaware that they had the disease,” she said.

Khachanush Hakobyan says people are becoming more careful about their
health but they cannot afford treatment because of financial problems.

“I was convinced that people do not go to doctors because they are not
emotionally ready to do it, but the sharp increase in the number of
patients during discount periods proves the opposite: people want to
be healthy but cannot afford the cost of treatment,” she said adding
that the number of visitors from regions has also increased.

«Meguerditch» : du désert de Syrie au grand café Daroles

Le 12 novembre 1923, «La Dépêche» annonçait l’arrivée à Auch de 48
jeunes «originaires du Proche-Orient» invitant les personnes qui
s’étaient manifestées à se présenter le lendemain pour recevoir les
apprentis qu’ils avaient demandés. Florence Giroir-Cotonat, qui a
présenté en 2012 à la Société archéologique le fruit de ses recherches
sur l’immigration des orphelins arméniens dans le Gers (1923-1940),
vient de publier un nouvel ouvrage : «Méguerditch, des rives de
l’Arménie aux rives du Gers», contant le parcours de ce petit orphelin
(Meguerditch Karaguezian), rescapé du génocide, arrivé à Auch en 1923.
La suite : l’accueil en Armagnac, puis, à la recherche d’un emploi
nouveau, Auch, Arcachon, Bordeaux, Paris, la mobilisation, le Stalag 1
B en Prusse, le retour à Auch (à nouveau le café Daroles), le mariage,
la naissance de Nadine. Nadine était présente à la médiathèque
intercommunale avec plusieurs autres descendants de ces rescapés du
génocide (on en compte environ 400 000 en France aujourd’hui) pour
assister à l’exposé de Florence qui a rappelé, images à l’appui,
l’horreur de cet épisode dramatique : un travail de mémoire
remarquable sur un sujet dont la gravité et l’ampleur ont échappé à
nos concitoyens dans les années 1915 et après.

Ce soir, Serge Avedikian présentera au cinéma «Le Scandale de
Paradjanov». Aujourd’hui, à 20 heures, dans le cadre de l’hommage à
l’Arménie rendu en différents lieux culturels de Marciac, Serge
Avedikian présentera à la salle Emir-Kusturica son dernier film : «Le
Scandale de Paradjanov» . Ce film est sorti le 7 janvier dernier.

L’arméno-russe Margarita Gasparyan remporte le tournoi ITF de
Croissy-Beaubourg (France)

L’arméno-russe Margarita Gasparyan a remporté le 4 avril le tournoi
ITF (tournoi international féminin) de Croissy-Beaubourg (France) doté
de 50 000 dollars de prix. Margarita Gasparyan (20 ans) représentant
la Russie s’est imposée en finale du tournoi sur le score de 6-3, 6-4
face à la française Mathilda Johanson. Le match ayant duré 1h23. C’est
le 3e tournoi ITF reporté cette année par Margarita Gasparyan qui est
classé au 168e rang des meilleures joueuses du monde.

American Armenian to fast for 55 days (PHOTOS)

American Armenian Agasi Vartanyan on Friday commenced, outside the
Armenian church in Burbank, California, USA, a 55-day fast, and to
draw the world’s attention on the Armenian Genocide Centennial.

Mike Ramazyan, an event organizer, told the abovementioned to Armenian
News-NEWS.am.

Vartanyan, sponsored by the Glendale City Council, has decided to stay
in a glass-enclosed space for 55 days.

“He will drink only water, and nothing else. His objective is for the
US society to take notice of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian
Genocide,” Ramazyan said. “This is done for the April 24 [, the
centenary of the genocide]; it doesn’t pursue any other goals.”

The American Armenian will not leave the three-meter-high-and
three-meter-wide glass space for 55 days.

“People can follow him 24 hours, but he will not be in touch with
anyone,” Mike Ramazyan noted, and added: “He has a [mobile] phone; he
can contact us in an extreme case, if there be a problem.”

Agasi Vartanyan will be under constant surveillance.
