Armenian GM Hrant Melkumyan beat GM Mark Hebden (England) in the last
round of the open chess tournament in London. Having scored 7.5 points
out of 9, he finished first in the tournament.
GM Robin van Kampen (Netherlands) had the same result but he was
behind the Armenian chess player on tie-break.

La politique des prix de la compagnie des Chemins de fer du Sud
Caucase pour les services de transport des passagers qui doit entrer
en vigueur le 1er janvier 2013, a ete approuvee. Le document a ete
developpe conformement aux règlements internationaux et aux règles
du conseil des transports en chemin de fer de la CEI.
Les nouveautes visent a simplifier les règles de voyage pour les
passagers et reduire les risques financiers de la societe.
Selon le document il existera desormais 5 zones de prix contre 18
maintenant – jusqu’a 50km, de 51km a 100km, de 101km a 160km, de
161km a 220km et de 221km a 300km.
Les billets mensuels sont prevus pour les passagers permanents
employant les trains dans une simple zone.
Il y a de bonnes nouvelles pour des passagers a l’international des
coefficients seront mis en place faisant baisser les prix des billet
les jours ouvrables.

Le livre de l’ingenieur-constructeur Nehir Roggendorf Eyuboglu intitule
” amant melancolique de Gaza ” a ete publie en Turquie. Il raconte
l’histoire d’amour du fondateur de la Republique turque Ataturk et
d’une femme armenienne Hermine.
Nehir Roggendorf Eyuboglu a declare au journal Hurriyet, qu’il etait
personnellement au courant de l’histoire de l’heroïne du roman,
qui lui a raconte cette histoire il y a 17 ans.
Hermine lui a dit qu’elle avait fait la connaissance d’Ataturk au
cours d’un banquet officiel en 1929. Ataturk est tombe amoureux d’elle
au premier regard et a invite Hermine dans sa residence, le palais
de Dolmabahce. Selon l’auteur, Hermine a egalement ete attiree par
lui et ils ont commence a sortir ensemble. Mais ils n’ont pas reussi
a se marier pour deux raisons. Tout d’abord, il y avait une grande
difference d’âge entre eux. Deuxièmement, Ataturk a dit qu’il n’etait
pas apte au mariage parce qu’il devait totalement se consacrer au
peuple turc. Selon l’auteur Ataturk a dit Hermine ” Pour moi, il n’y
a pas de difference si vous etes armenienne ou grecque de Russie. Dès
que je t’ai vu, j’ai compris Tu n’etais pas une turque. Vous etes
une fleur qui doit encore grandir. Je t’aime beaucoup “.
Nehir Roggendorf Eyuboglu a note que le jour où Ataturk a appele
Hermine Palais de Dolmabahce, le Premier ministre Ismet Inonu a mis
des entraves. Et Hermine n’a jamais eu la chance de revoir Ataturk
de nouveau depuis lors.
L’auteur du livre declare que l’histoire ecrite dans le livre est
vraie. Mais les celèbres journalistes Taha Akyol et Oguz Akay qui
ont ecrit de nombreux livres sur Ataturk ainsi que Sinan Meydan ont
declare qu’ils n’avaient pas de telles informations et que l’histoire
n’etait pas prouvee. L’historien Derya Tulga pense egalement qu’il
est impossible de prouver que cette histoire est vraie affirme le
journal Hurriyet.

MENU.AM TO BECOME E-RESTAURANT ‘SUPERMARKET’

The Menu.am project, which won the ArmNet Awards 2012 all-Armenian
web competition last week in the Breakthrough of the Year category,
intends to become an e-restaurant “supermarket.”
Mr Vahan Kerobyan, Menu.am Director, told Tert.am about the victory
and further projects.
Although Menu.am did not take part in the award ceremony, it deserves
the Breakthrough of the Year award for presenting an entirely new
approach to e-trade and web design.
The menu.am website is a system of orders in about forty Yerevan
restaurants and cafes.
In awarding menu.am the organizers considered its efficiency,
transparency and availability, as well as its online activity.
As regards the development of the project, which was launched two
months ago, Mr Kerobyan said that this field is nascent in Armenia.
“But we realize that similar e-projects can operate in Armenia. We are
now content with progress, and we are willing to render high-quality
services. The website contains information on more than 40 restaurants,
but we are not going to stop at it,” Mr Kerobyan said.

The key to Armenia’s future is the creative mind, US Ambassador to
Armenia John Heffern said while addressing the ArmTech 2012 congress.
He said that when he first came to Armenia he could not imagine that
IT would see such progress in the country. Today, Armenia has the
biggest number of invention requests in the CIS.
Heffern hopes that ArmTech will be a good opportunity for these
projects to come true.
During the congress Armenia’s Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan signed
two memorandums: with Intel to set up a research center in Armenia
and with Corporacion America to create a chip factory.
The Premier also met with a group of Armenian programmers working in
the Silicon Valley, who told him that they have created a network of
young IT specialists, which already involves 200 specialists.
FISH PRODUCTION IN ARMENIA TOTALS 8,150 TONS IN JAN-DEC: AGRICULTURE MINISTRY
YEREVAN, December 11. /ARKA/. Fish production in Armenia totaled
8,151 tons in January-December 2012, Fishing industry and Beekeeping
department at Armenia’s Ministry of Agriculture Tigran Aleksanyan
said Tuesday.
“In 2009 fish production in the republic totaled 5,280 tons, in 2010 it
rose to 5,420 tons, and in 2011 it was 6,814. As of 1 December 2012
fish production hit 8,151 tons,” he said at Novosti International
Press Center.
By the end of 2012 the Ministry plans to raise the volume to
8,800-8,900 tons, exceeding by 27% that of 2011, according to him.
Aleksanyan noted as of 1 December 2012 fish export also rose to nearly
1,200 versus 900 tons in 2011.
“We hope to raise the volume of not only fish production, but also
export as the final results are revealed on 1 January,” he said.
Armenia exports fish to Russia (nearly 80-90% of the total exported
production), Georgia, the UAE, and the U.S, Aleksanyan highlighted.
Armenia mainly exports trout and sturgeon. Aleksanyan also said there
are 250 fishing industry companies registered in Armenia. –0-

YEREVAN. – Parliamentary opposition Heritage group MPs Ruben Hakobyan
and Tevan Poghosyan met on Tuesday with the permanent representative
of Artsakh [Nagorno-Karabakh] to Armenia Karlen Avetisyan to discuss
foreign and domestic policy issues of Artsakh.
The Armenian lawmakers congratulated Tevan Poghosyan on the 16th
anniversary of Karabakh Constitution, and at the same time Hakobyan
presented approaches of Heritage on the Karabakh peace process. The MPs
expressed readiness to support international recognition of Karabakh.
US EMBASSY IN ARMENIA IMPLEMENTS NEW VISA APPLICATION PROCEDURES

On December 17, 2012, the U.S. Embassy in Armenia will implement new
visa application and appointment procedures. The new procedures will
make it quicker to apply for a U.S. non-immigrant visa, U.S. Consul
in Armenia George Lynn told reporters today.
Under the new procedures, the application fee may be paid by telephone,
online at , or in person at the bank.
Visa appointments may be scheduled free of charge by telephone
or online.
The Consul informed they hold 70 interviews a day, and about 2,000
Armenian citizens leave for the US every year. He added that the
number of applicants was even more ten years ago.
300 ARMENIAN TRUCKS STUCK IN BLOCKING IN UPPER LARS

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 10, ARMENPRESS. About 300 Armenian trucks are stuck
on Upper Lars checkpoint on the Russian-Georgian border because of
unfavorable weather conditions. In a conversation with “Armenpress”
the Deputy Director of “Apaven” International Freight Forwarding
Company Armen Davtyan stated this. Davtyan said: “The Ministry of
Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation provides food and hot
tea to the drivers.” The Deputy Director of “Apaven” International
Freight Forwarding Company noted that 200 trucks of 300 are on the
Russian side of the checkpoint.
The Press Secretary of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of South
Osia Yulia Starchenko stated on December 6 that Upper Lars checkpoint
is closed because of unfavorable weather conditions.
LE PAPE BENOIT XVI ET LE CATHOLICOS ARAM 1ER ECHANGENT DES LETTRES

Après son voyage au Liban, le Pape Benoît XVI a envoye une lettre
personnelle au Catholicos Aram 1er, exprimant son haut respect pour
l’Eglise armenienne et en particulier pour le Catholicosat de Cilicie
et exprimant son regret de n’avoir pû le rencontrer au Catholicosat
de Cilicie pour discuter des questions oecumeniques avec lui.
Dans sa reponse, Sa Saintete Aram 1er a rappele a Sa Saintete le
Pape les liens de longue date entre les deux eglises fondees sur
les discussions theologiques et les relations ~cumeniques depuis
le Royaume de Cilicie. Le Catholicos a alors partage avec le Pape
Benoît XVI son inquietude au sujet de la presence Chretienne dans
le Moyen-Orient et le besoin de toutes les eglises dans la region
de travailler ensemble pour affirmer les droits des Chretiens dans
la region.
