French MP, author of the bill criminalizing the denial of the Armenian
Genocide, Valerie Boyer said she will never visit Turkey because of
threats she receives, Turkish Milliyet reports.

This year she presented two bills one of them relating to criminalizing
the denial of the Armenian Genocide, the other offers creation of a
commission to investigate the decision of the French Constitutional
Council to recognize the bill unconstitutional.

She said the Turkish government has disrespected her and threatened.

She said there are many videos in YouTube containing bad words and
disrespect in her address.

“I am glad I do not understand Turkish. But my family and I have
received threats in French, I was forced to live under police
protection for a while. I am deputy head of Armenian-French friendship
group. I will continue my fight for punishing the denial of the
Armenian Genocide,” she said.

The French MP said she previously visited Turkey but now she does
not want as she will endanger her life there. Boyer said even if the
Turkish government promises to guarantee her safety she will not take
the risk.

“The government did not kill Hrant Dink, while it is not known who
did it,” she said, adding that besides threats she is also receiving
supportive messages from Turkey.

“There are still people in Turkey who believe in human rights,”
she said.

HUMAN RIGHTS DEFENDER SAYS POLICE MUST SUBSTANTIATE REJECTION OF ELECTORAL VIOLATION CLAIMS

11:36, February 26, 2013

Armenia’s Human Rights Defender (HRD) has called on the police to
offer detailed proof substantiating their investigation in cases when
they reject claims of electoral violations.

The HRD says that of the ten cases it has filed with the police,
two have been thrown out and the other eight are still under review.

The two rejected cases involve allegations of election bribes being
distributed in the town of Sisian and the village of Verin Getashen.

The HRD states that the police must be forthcoming about the
information it amassed to reject these cases, adding that criminal
investigations must be launched even if there is one iota of
conflicting evidence.

long terme.

HERITAGE LEADER MAY CHALLENGE ELECTION RESULTS AT ARMENIA’S HIGHEST COURT

YEREVAN, February 25. / ARKA /. Opposition Zharangutyun (Heritage)
party leader, Raffi Hovannisian, said today he may challenge the
official results of the February 18 presidential election at the
Constitutional Court before March 2, when the deadline for doing
so expires.

According to data, unveiled by CEC chairman Tigran Mukuchyan today,
the incumbent president Serzh Sargsyan had received 861,373 votes or
58.64% of the vote and was reelected for the second five-year term.

Raffi Hovannisian, head of the opposition Zharangutyun (Heritage)
party, came in second with 36.74% of the vote or 539,693 votes.

Hovannisian, who does not recognize the outcome of the election, has
been holding protest demonstrations across Armenia since February 20.

“We may ask the Constitutional Court to renounce the outcome of the
election, giving thus the last opportunity to its members to protect
the Constitution and the law,” Hovannisian told local reporters today.

He added that he will form at Liberty Square, the venue of
demonstrations, a “transitional, democratic justice” before
constitutional order is established in the country. -0-

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – When Ani Kavafian became a resident artist of the
Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, she was one of a kind.

Not because she was the only violinist with prestigious chamber music
organization in New York City.

`For a while, I was the only female in the group,’ she recalled. `We
had this picture taken out on the plaza. I’m in the middle, with all
these men all around.’

Now a professor of music at Yale University, Kavafian earned her
invitation to become a member under founding artistic director Charles
Wadsworth after several appearances as a guest or a substitute.

`You had to prove yourself, and up until that time, I had only played
second violin,’ she recalled. `I’ve been there ever since.’

She wasn’t the only woman forever, and eventually her sister,
violinist Ida Kavafian, would follow.

Both will be in Grand Rapids next week for St. Cecilia Music Center’s
Chamber Music Series featuring musicians of the

Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center in Grand Rapids.

Ida Kavafian teaches at The Curtis Institute in Philadelphia and the
Bard College Conservatory in Annandale-on Hudson, New York, and she
was a member of the celebrated Beaux Arts Trio for six years.

But both native Michiganders have maintained their association with
the premiere repertory company for chamber music.

`I think it’s one of the real pinnacles of chamber music playing, very
well respected, representing Lincoln Center and New York City,’ Ida
Kavafian said.

The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center returns on Thursday
Feb. 7, 2013 for its second concert in its first season as partners
with St. Cecilia Chamber Music Series, directed by David Finckel and
Wu Han, co-artistic directors of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln
Center.

Seven musicians will be in St. Cecilia Music Center’s Royce Auditorium
to play music by Cesar Franck, Richard Strauss and Ned Rorem in a
program the ensemble also will perform in Chicago’s Harris Theater the
following day and in Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall in New York
City afterwards.

The program includes Strauss’ Violin Sonata in E-flat major, Op. 18;
Franck’s Quintet in F minor for Piano, Two Violins and Cello; and
Rorem’s `Aftermath’ A Song Cycle for Voice, Piano, Violin and Cello.

`There’s a good amount of romanticism and lyricism with Ned’s piece,’
Ida said. `There will be a little something for everyone.

Pianists Gil Kalish and Anne-Marie McDermott, baritone Randall
Scarlata, violist Richard O’Neill and cellist Mihai Marica will join
the Kavafians for the program.

`Many of us play together and have for many years,’ said Ida Kavafian.

Perhaps none more than Ani Kavafian. She’s in her 34th season with the
Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center.

`Somebody told me the number of concerts and the number of pieces I’ve
played, and it was staggering. It was many, many, many hundreds, she
said.’

Ani Kavafian plans on adding many more to that list.

`I’m as much in love with the position as I’ve ever been,’ she said.

Raffi: Flood Will Take Away Criminals

Raffi: Flood Will Take Away Criminals

16:47 24/02/2013
Story from Lragir.am News:

The rally called by Raffi Hovannisian, the leader of the Heritage
Party, started despite a the power outage on Freedom Square. In
addition, policemen walked around informing that the rally was not
authorized. Raffi telephoned the chief of police Vladimir Gasparyan
who said the Ministry of Culture is responsible for Freedom Square. He
advised to bring a cable from one of the nearby cafes which is, most
probably, the City Hall’s responsibility. A little later the deputy
chief of police Osikyan informed that power will be connected soon.

Raffi opened the rally with the announcement that the rally of 28
February is authorized by the City Hall. He thanked the police for
being beside people, for connecting power.

`Today I am going to read my speech though I usually talk. There is no
need to be offended by the ex-president Serzh Sargsyan who always
reads his speeches. Sometimes I will also read my speech,’ Raffi
Hovannisian said.

Raffi Hovannisian noted that Freedom Square does not recognize
parties. Citizens of Armenia are standing on the square who voted for
Heritage, ARF, ANC, even the RPA in the past elections but today they
are the people of Armenia. He says there are people there who voided
their ballots, the breath of 1988 and the spirit of 2008 is here.

`Today the three presidents of Armenia are with us, Vazgen Manukyan,
Karen Demirchyan and Stepan Demirchyan who have been elected by people
are with us. No parties, only the order passed on to us from our
grandparents: Armenian people, our salvation is in our united power,’
Raffi Hovannisian said.

A big process has started, different political and civil movements
come to the Freedom Square. `Be just, be strong, be brave, be kind.
Only the just, the brave, the kind will survive the flood which comes
and leaves taking away the criminals, leaving behind a clean field, a
new Ararat, and we will build a new Armenia,’ he said.

Raffi Hovannisian underlined that the governor of Shirak, the mayor of
Armavir have resigned, the mayor of Vanadzor will follow them. `One by
one, from Tavush to Syunik, they will submit their resignations to
people, all the governors, heads of villages, mayors, everyone who
cheated and teased people,’ he said.

Raffi Hovannisian said in some cities the police took pictures of him
and citizens. `Let the citizens of Armenia free, don’t spread fear,
make groundless statements from their cars.’ They say the rally is not
authorized. There is no need to authorize hello or exercise of rights,
he says.

Dwelling on future steps, Raffi Hovannisian said tomorrow the struggle
will continue, there is no retreat, there is victory.

`Tomorrow the Central Electoral Commission will publish the so-called
final results of the poll. It will be the moment of truth of the
Armenian authorities and this commission. Let them be guided by law
and people. Nobody is higher than the people of Armenia. I will hold
a press conference after that announcement. Those who have questions
in their hearts and minds will receive their answer tomorrow,’ he
said.

On February 26 the revolution of rights, smiles and hello will
continue, Raffi Hovannisian said.

`As the one elected by you, your servant, I will take my hello to
village after village,’ he said, adding that on February 26 he will
visit Armavir and Ararat. On February 27 he will visit Syunik. On
February 28 he will visit Kotayk and return to Freedom Square,
Yerevan.

Heritage party leader Raffi Hovannisian is going to take his

about it at his today’s rally in the Liberty Square.

`On February 26 we will continue not the revolution by bloodshed or
evilness but by law, smile and greeting. Without any shame I will take
this hello revolution from town to town, from village to village with
a smile,’ he said.

He presented his schedule of meetings in Armenian towns. He said

areas and towns as well.
