“Azerbaijani and Turkey maintain close contacts in the settlement of
the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

If the OSCE Minsk Group has not been able to achieve anything within
20 years, the international community should ask itself – why 20
percent of Azerbaijani territories are still under occupation?”

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said at the briefing in Baku,
APA reports.

He said that Minsk Group member states should take an active part
in this process: “As you know, Turkey is a member of the Minsk Group
and ready to support the peace process. The main matter is to solve
this conflict within the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan as soon
as possible.”

Jocelyn Wise Caters To Her Armenian Roots

JOCELYN WISE CATERS TO HER ARMENIAN ROOTS

Boston Globe, MA
July 17 2013

By Lisa Zwirn / Globe Correspondent / July 16, 2013

Jocelyn Wise remembers when her grandmother’s native Armenian foods
were considered strange and unfamiliar. “There was also a different
language associated with them,” says Wise, chef and owner of Miss
Fork caterer in Stoneham.

One of her grandmother’s stews was a green bean and lamb dish called
fassoulya, slow-cooked with cheap, bony cuts, and plenty of garlic,
mint, and lemon. “Armenian food was peasant food,” says Wise, 50,
who grew up in Andover. Stews are thick enough to sop up with bread,
but thin with meat, which was an expensive ingredient.

Wise’s maternal grandparents emigrated from Armenia in the early
1900s. They met in the United States, married, and settled in Belmont.

Her grandfather, Badrig Zulalian, went to Tufts University and became
an architect. Wise’s mother, Sybil, loved to entertain and was an
adventurous cook, but it was Wise’s grandmother Elmon Zulalian who
cooked the traditional dishes the caterer became so fond of.

Those specialties include stuffed and rolled vegetables, lamb, bulgur,
and “lots of olive oil, lemon, fresh mint, and oregano,” says Wise.

Bulgur, which is wheat kernels that are steamed, dried, and ground
into different size grains, is a popular ingredient, considered
both nutritious and filling. Wise makes a dish called metch (tomato
tabbouli), in which the bulgur is steeped in tomato sauce and turns
richly flavored and very moist with a red tint. This particular recipe
comes from her good friend’s mother, Ann Melikian.

Paper-thin phyllo dough is used to wrap or layer both sweet and savory
ingredients. “I work with phyllo dough all the time,” she says. In
one pastry, called paklava, layers of phyllo and ground nuts are
soaked in a lemony simple syrup.

One of Wise’s favorite foods is lamb. Before grilling butterflied
leg of lamb, she marinates it in red wine vinegar, allspice, mint,
oregano, garlic, and olive oil. “There’s always garlic – and mint,”
she says. Allspice is also frequently used. She remembers her
grandmother rubbing cubes of lamb with allspice, paprika, garlic,
salt, and pepper. Then the men would thread the meat onto long skewers
and cook them over an open flame. “It’s the only thing I remember my
grandfather and his pals cooking,” says Wise.

Wise trained at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris and also cooked in Italy. When
she started her catering company in 1998, she says, “I didn’t want
one of those pretentious French names. I wanted something playful.”

Tempted by a Man Ray piece called Mr. Knife and Miss Fork, she took
the name Miss Fork.

Today, her cooking mostly comprises Armenian, Mediterranean, and
Middle Eastern dishes. “I can do high-end [French] foods, but I lean
more to rustic, family-style cooking,” she says.

Like grandmother, like granddaughter.

Russian Parliament discusses the issue according to which it is not

New Urartian Trace Found In Artsakh

NEW URARTIAN TRACE FOUND IN ARTSAKH

Archaeologists have found another Urartian trace in Artsakh. The
artifacts found as a result of excavations in Karkar castle-city
found two years ago between the cities of Shushi and Stepanakert with
the sponsorship of the state, which testify to the links between the
Kingdom of Van and the residents of Karkar.

An evidence of links between Karkar and all of Artsakh with the Kingdom
of Van is the ancient 1.5 km-long canal, which stretches from Shushi
to Karkar and passes through the city. The traces of it have been
preserved on the plateau, in the forest and the mountains.

The artifacts found in Karkar refute the evidences of Arab sources
that Karkar was founded by Khosrow Anushirvan King in the 6th century.

The city has a more ancient history, which is proved by the items
found during excavations.

Top Secret Document Calls Armenians ‘Enemies Of The State’

TOP SECRET DOCUMENT CALLS ARMENIANS ‘ENEMIES OF THE STATE’

11:47 17.07.2013

A top secret document signed by the Turkish Army chief of staff weeks
before the September 12, 1980 coup d’etat characterizes Armenians as
“Enemies of the State,” reports Radikal newspaper.

The document entitled “Turkey’s immediate domestic threat” was
distributed to all military commanders three months prior to the coup
and was signed by then Chief of Staff Kenan Evren, who toppled the
regime of Suleyman Demirel during one of many military coups in Turkey.

The document not only characterized Armenians as “Enemies of the
State,” but also went on to say that the 1915 “relocation” of Armenians
was “justified” because losses and deaths that occurred during that
time were the “fault of the Armenians.”

“The assertion that Armenians lost 1.5 million people is a lie. The
Armenian losses were between 50 and 100 [presumably 50,000 and
100,000]. The Turks suffered more severe losses,” asserted the
document.

The document, which bears Evren’s signature, was used as the basis
for carrying out the 1980 coup.

According to the document, which contains a portion on the historical
developments, “The Armenian question re-emerges on the agenda in 1913
and from 1914 to 1915 armed Armenian groups were working with Russia
on the Eastern Front and attacking Turks and Muslims. These incidents
continued until 1918.”

The document goes on to blame Armenians, as well as “inhumane actions”
by Europe, for the deaths of “thousands” of people at the time.

According to Radikal, through this explanation, the Evren Report
justifies the Armenian Genocide.

“During World War I, the Ottoman government found itself in a
difficult predicament as a result of the betrayal by Armenians and
their continued crimes, thus there was the imperative to transport
Armenians to far away places away from the war. This decision
corresponded with norms of the time and was legal, as well as a
justified decision. It needs to be taken into consideration that
these actions were taking place on Ottoman territory, which belonged
to Turks,” said the Evren report.

The document also highlights the activities of the Armenian community
at the time of its publication saying that the Armenians, having never
understood that their ancestors “perished as a result of European
policies, continue to be under the influence of inflammatory literature
of the time, will fall prey to the same game and

become involved in the events of today.”

“Instead of finding the true culprits, they [the Armenians] are
attacking innocent political officials and engaging in terrorist
activity.

The Evren report also criticized the activities of the Armenian church,
saying that church members were deliberately settling Armenians from
Anatolia in Istanbul.

“Beginning in 1967, Eastern Anatolia Armenians began to migrate to
Istanbul. The poor Armenian children who came to Istanbul received
their education and training at the ‘Aramian-Oundjian’ and ‘Immaculate
Conception’ schools. During this period the Armenian Patriarchate of
Istanbul told the world of the poverty-stricken children and began to
take advantage of the situation. They are also urging them to reclaim
their Armenian names,” said the Evren report.

The report also addresses alleged cooperation between Armenians and
Kurds at the time, saying that Armenians were working to receive
passports from supporters of the Kurdish movement.

“It is imperative that we, at all costs, retaliate against the crimes
of these Armenians,” said the Evren report.

MASS MURDERS OF ARMENIANS IN OTTOMAN EMPIRE A HISTORICAL FACT – UKRAINIAN HISTORIAN

July 17, 2013 | 12:00

The initiative calling to condemn terror committed against Armenians
in the Ottoman Empire is fair, famous Ukrainian historian Maksim
Ravreba said.

He recalled that Ukraine itself has suffered political terror and
demanded international recognition.

“Mass murders of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire is a historical fact.

The only attitude it deserves is condemnation,” he told
Analitika.at.ua, expressing sincere sympathy towards the tragedy of
the Armenian nation.

As informed earlier, a bill on the Armenian Genocide’s recognition
was registered on June 6 in the Verkhovna Rada. Ukrainian parliament
members Arsen Avakov and Vilen Shatvoryan are the persons behind this
law proposal.

Ukrainian MPs, intellectuals, representatives of NGOs are actively
supporting recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
