YEREVAN. – Some of Armenian MPs’ engagement in business is clear
without the list issued by the oppositional Armenian National Congress
(ANC), member of the ruling coalition’s delegation, MP Vardan
Bostanjyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

During today’s regular round of talks between the ruling coalition
and the opposition, ANC presented a list of 76 MPs who run businesses
which is banned by the law.

“All the accusations were reasonable, MPs have no right to run
business. However, there are many options not to run business
directly,” he said. Therefore, the MP considers this argument cannot
be considered sufficient to hold snap elections.

The next round of talks will take place in a week, instead of Friday
as it was planned. Negotiators explained the delay is necessary to
fully prepare conclusions on the arguments.

District Judge Gary Feinerman of the U.S. District Court, N.D.

Illinois, Eastern Division, issued an opinion on Aug. 5 in the case
officially known as Michael v. Letchinger (casually referred to as
“the man who started a church in his house vs. Lake Bluff.”)

Judge Feinerman wrote in his conclusion that “the defendants’ motions
to dismiss are granted in part and denied in part.”

GazeboNews asks readers with a background in legal matters to read
the document and help summarize it by commenting on this story. It
can be found at

Here’s some of what it says:

On June 22, 2010, plaintiffs George Michael and his family filed four
motions against the Village of Lake Bluff, several village officials,
State Sen. Susan Garrett, and the Director of the Illinois Department
of Revenue. The Michael family claimed the defendants “committed
state law torts and violated their rights under the United States
Constitution.”

The defendants filed four separate motions to dismiss.

According to the court document on , the Michael family’s
complaint sought at least $10.4 million in compensatory damages, as
well as punitive damages, costs, and fees. It also sought at least
$100,000 in compensatory damages and punitive damages on behalf of
the Church, a non-party.

Looking at the judge’s concluding comments, it appears that claims
against the Village of Lake Bluff and Brian Hamer, the director of
the Illinois Department of Revenue, have been dismissed, and that
the Michael family cannot file another case on the same claim (ie:
they were “dismissed with prejudice”.

Judge Feinerman also wrote that the Michael family’s request for
damages on behalf of the Church, a non-party, is stricken.

But other claims were dismissed without prejudice, meaning the
plaintiff can file another suit on the same claim.

Here is Judge Feinerman’s conclusion:

Conclusion For the foregoing reasons, Defendants’ motions to dismiss
are granted in part and denied in part. The claims against the Village
of Lake Bluff and Director Hamer are dismissed with prejudice. The §
1983 claim against Senator Garrett, and the state tort claims against
Nellessen and O’Hara, are dismissed without prejudice and with leave
to file an amended complaint by September 2, 2011.

The § 1983 claims against Letchinger, Irvin, Nellessen, and Friedman
are dismissed with prejudice, except for the free exercise claims. The
complaint’s request for damages on behalf of the Church, a non-party,
is stricken.

Failure In Kazan Is One Of The Links Of Superpowers’ Civilized Defea

FAILURE IN KAZAN IS ONE OF THE LINKS OF SUPERPOWERS’ CIVILIZED DEFEATS IN THE EAST

arminfo
August 9, 2011

The failure in Kazan is one of the links of the superpowers’ civilized
defeats in the East, political expert Sergey Shakaryants said at
today’s press conference in Yerevan.

“This is not only the defeat of Russia, but also the defeat of the
United States. The failure of the western policy in the Karabakh peace
process, the defeat in Afghanistan, Lybia and other Arab countries
have led to the fact that the USA has decided to open its cards and
apply Syria and the Kurdish factor to suppress Iran, its main rival”,
he said.

However, Shakaryants thinks that it is impossible, as not a
single country in the region will start a war against Iran, even
pro-American Turkey. At the same time, Shakaryants did not rule
out possible expansion of the Syrian domestic political conflict,
which may develop into a Kurdish movement and result in creation of
Kurdistan. “The Middle East countries’ positions are so week due to
the protracted conflicts and the recent revolutions that creation of
independent Kurdistan is quite probable”, he said.

IL DEMOCRATICO: INTEGRATION OF KARABAKH INTO AZERBAIJAN TO BE CONSIDERED VIOLATION OF THE RIGHT TO SELF- DETERMINATION

arminfo
Monday, August 8, 12:09

The integration of Karabakh into Azerbaijan will be considered
violation of the people’s right to self-determination, as despite
the unrecognized status, the NKR is a sovereign state today,
Armando Pascale (“Il Democratico”), the author of an articled about
Nagorno-Karabakh says.

Pascale says that since the pre-Christian times Karabakh has been
settled with Armenians. Moreover, he points out the recognition of
Kosovo and South Sudan and says that this stresses the significance
of the right to self-determination even more.

Armenia Is As Modern As Europe And As Historic As Asian Civilization

ARMENIA IS AS MODERN AS EUROPE AND AS HISTORIC AS ASIAN CIVILIZATION

What is common between the following famous people: Princess Diana (no
need of introduction), Garry Kasparov (Former world chess champion),
Kim Kardashian (Socialite, model, sex-symbol) Andre Agassi (former
world no.1 tennis player), Ivan Aivazovsky (world famous painter),
Charles Aznavour (Singer, Actor), Arthur Abraham (current IBF middle
weight-world boxing champion), Hasmik Papian (world famous opera
singer).

The question seems to be difficult. But the answer is simple. The
common thing among the above celebrities is their roots. They are
all Armenians. It is surprising that Armenian connection is so strong
and work wonders. Perhaps Armenia is the only country whose diaspora
population is more than the resident natives of the country. Armenia
has a resident population of 3 million with a world-wide diaspora
population of around 7 million.

The beautiful God-blessed country of Armenia is located on the
crossroads of Asia and Europe. The region is called Eurasia. The
country is as modern as Europe and as historic as Asian civilization.

It has the best of both worlds. As a result the people of Armenia
are modern as well as very traditional.

Armenian civilization is as old as this world. Armenia is the country
from which life started. The biblical story says that God decided to
flood the Earth after seeing how corrupt it was. He then told Noah
to build an ark and fill it with two of every animal species. After
the flood waters receded, the Bible says, the ark came to rest on a
mountain. Many believe that Mount Ararat, the highest point in the
region, is where the ark and her inhabitants ran aground. The culture
of Armenia encompasses many elements that are based on the geography,
literature, architecture, dance, and music of the people. The culture
is similar to and yet distinct from many of the bordering countries
like Russia, Georgia and Iran as well as Mediterranean nations such
as Greece and Cyprus . Armenian culture has strong influences from
both its Eastern neighbours, as well as an underlying influence from
Europe to the West.

Of late Armenia has emerged as a melting pot for east and west where
students from Asian countries like India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Iran,
Lebanon and Syria are studying in large numbers because of their
very competitive tuition fee structure. Students from USA, Russia,
Georgia, France, Greece come because of their Armenian connection
and peaceful environment for studies.

Haniya Education based in Dehiwala, Colombo has now made dreams of Sri
Lankan students come true by forging ties with the state university
of Armenia namely Yerevan State Medical University, famously known as
YSMU. The university established in 1920 by the newly formed Soviet
Union is located at the centre of the beautiful capital city Yerevan.

At present there are more than 1300 foreign students studying in
Armenia. The Indian students form a majority of this. Students from
Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have also followed their Indian
brethren. The convenient air connection from Dubai and Moscow,
beautiful city coupled with high level of academics make Armenia one
of the best destinations for medical, nursing and engineering studies.

Apart from studies, students get an opportunity to participate in
summer camps, opera events, dance festivals. The enterprising ones
travel to mainland Europe and USA for earning extra bucks during summer
vacations. During winter vacations, the students rush to beautiful
snow clad peaks to try their hand at skiing. The vibrant night life
and open culture helps students un-wind themselves after a hard day
at university classrooms and practical training sessions at various
hospitals of the universities.

After completion of their six year studies in Armenia the students are
armed with their medical degree from one of the best universities for
medical studies in the region. Since, the university is recognized by
World Health Organisation (WHO), among many options are the choice
of taking medical licensing exam of United States government and
moving there.

Haniya Education is making all efforts to promote awareness about
Armenia and Armenian universities in Sri Lanka. They take full
responsibility for admission of Sri Lankan students starting from
documentation, visa-processing and air-ticket to Armenia.

Chairman of the U-Turn party Simon Ghonakhchyan addressed a letter
to Armenian President Serzh Sarsyan wherein he proposes renaming the
Republic of Armenia Republic of East Armenia.

The reason for the proposal is the Armenian president’s speech
at his meeting with the participants in the Armenian language and
literature Olympiad in Tsakhkadzor, which aroused response by Turkey
and Azerbaijan, says the letter.

“The proposal has been discussed with a number of political forces
and received an adequate assessment,” the letter says.

According Ghonakhchyan, if accepted, the proposal will put an end
to the “permanent problem of Armenians’ rightful claims.” “You,
as well as any of your successors, as President of the Republic of
Armenia, any official and ordinary citizen of the Republic of Armenia,
any foreign citizen, anyone that will name our country will become
partaker of our rightful claims,” says the letter.
