Russian envoy to NATO demands proof of Europe missile shield safety

December 4, 2011 – 17:10 AMT

PanARMENIAN.Net – Russian envoy to NATO Dmitry Rogozin urged the U.S.
to produce documentary proof that NATO missile shield is not directed
against Russia.

The Kremlin says the U.S. expanding anti-missile system in Europe is a
potential threat to the Russian nuclear arsenal, while Washington is
trying to convince Moscow that the system poses no threat to Russia,
that it is needed to protect against attack from “rogue states” such
as Iran.

`We believe Washington has to produce relevant tactical and technical
specifications, allow the use of telemetric equipment during tests and
stipulate the data observed in a legally binding document. Only then
will we believe in Washington’s statements,’ RIA Novosti quoted
Rogozin as saying.

Prof. Chilingarian Elected American Physical Society Fellow

PROF. CHILINGARIAN ELECTED AMERICAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY FELLOW

The American Physical Society (APS) was founded in 1899 by 36
prominent physicists of the time, who gathered at Columbia University
for that purpose. Browsing through the names of the APS presidents
from founding days to today, is like reading the Who’s Who in the
field of physics. Some of these scientists are so famous that they
have famous experiments or units of measure named after them. The
mission of APS is to be the leading voice for physics and an
authoritative source of physics information for the advancement of
physics and the benefit of humanity. Annually the APS names
physicists from around the world whose work has contributed to the
mission of advancing physics knowledge and benefiting humanity, as APS
fellows.

Prof. Ashot Chilingarian, the director of Yerevan Physics Institute
and the head of its Cosmic Ray Division is elected American Physical
Society Fellow this year.

The APS announcement reads as follows: “Ashot Chilingarian, Yerevan

Government- private sector cooperation to tackle export issues

Nagorno-Karabakh conflict close to settlement

3 December 2011, 17:10 (GMT+04:00) Turkey, Erzurum, Dec. 3 / Trend A. Tagiyeva /

The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is close to the settlement, as all
countries of the region, in particular, Armenia and Russia, understand
the need to resolve this problem. The continuation of the conflict
harms these countries, deputy chairman of the Turkish ruling Justice
and Development Party Haluk Ipek told Trend today.

“Armenia is isolated because of its aggressive policy,” he said. “As a
result, the economy greatly weakened.”

Taking into account Armenia’s serious economic and strategic problems,
the country’s authorities will be forced to admit their wrong policy,
he said.

He said that Turkey always supported Azerbaijan in Nagorno-Karabakh
issue. Ankara will continue supporting the fraternal country till the
conflict is resolved.

Turkey may begin playing a more active role in this issue and take the
initiative because of Russia’s ineffective initiative to resolve the
Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, he said.

“We believe that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict will be resolved with
Turkey’s help,” Ipek said.

“Time is working for the benefit of Azerbaijan,” he said. Azerbaijan
has become a country with a stable and growing economy for 20 years of
independence. The leading world countries and international
organizations recognized its political power.”

He also stressed that the Armenian-Turkish relations can not be
improved till Azerbaijani lands are under Armenia’s occupation. Nobody
can force the Turkish authorities to open border with Armenia.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988
when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian
armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992,
including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding districts.

Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994.
The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group – Russia, France, and the U.S. –
are currently holding the peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council’s four
resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the
surrounding regions.

“The NK conflict can’t be an inter-communitarian issue,” former NKR
Minister of Foreign Affairs Arman Melikyan says.

In this sense, he doesn’t treat the December 8-10 meeting of “Armenian
and Azerbaijani communities” of the NK in Paris seriously. “I don’t
imagine what kind of a meeting that will be,” Mr. Melikyan said.

He is aware of the RA Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Shavarsh
Kocharyan’s commentary on this meeting and deems it necessary to
remind that “the issue of refugees has many delicacies and it isn’t
worth making statements that can put an end to all that.”

According to Melikyan, there is one, very serious issue. “Artsakh
declared its independence and its objective is to preserve it and
achieve international recognition. Azerbaijan unleashed a war and
subjected the Armenian population of Azerbaijan to ethnic cleansing.
The issue related to Armenian refugees is not a matter of the
communities. It is an issue related to the restoration of violated
rights and losses, and it is an issue that has to be solved by Yerevan
and Stepanakert.”

According to the former NKR FM, any inter-communitarian meeting will
lead the NK conflict to a labyrinth.

Melikyan says even if the scheduled meeting takes place in Paris, “it
will be a gathering of people who are unaware of the issue”. “They
will only represent themselves because there are no Armenian and
Azerbaijani communities in Artsakh. The fact remains that there is a
Republic of Artsakh, and everyone has to come to grips with that.”
