MASS. GOV. TO DEDICATE ARMENIAN HERITAGE PARK

Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick, Armenian Foreign Affairs Minister
Edward Nalbandyan (nal-BAN’-dee-uhn) and others will be celebrating
the local immigrant community at the dedication ceremony of Armenian
Heritage Park in downtown Boston.

Patrick and Nalbandyan will be joined by city Mayor Thomas Menino and
local officials at the Tuesday morning ceremony on the Rose Fitzgerald
Kennedy Greenway.

A gift from Massachusetts’ Armenian-American community, the park
celebrates local immigrants and their contributions to the community.

It is located between the Christopher Columbus Park and Faneuil Hall
on the greenway.

Before the ceremony, Patrick and Nalbandyan are scheduled to meet in
the governor’s office at the state Capitol.

SCR ANNOUNCES COMPETITION FOR SCHOOL GRADUATES WISHING TO STUDY AT RUSSIAN UNIVERSITIES

YEREVAN, May 22. /ARKA/. The South Caucasian Railways (SCR) company
operating Armenia’s railroads has announced a competition for school
graduates wishing to study at Russian universities training specialists
for railways companies. In a press release the company listed several
mandatory requirements such as high grades in physics, mathematics
and Russian language.

The interview for selection will be held May 25, 2012 at 13:00 at
50, Tigran MetsAvenue, Office of Management and Communication. For

South Caucasus Railways, a 100-percent subsidiary of Russian Railways,
runs Armenian Railway. Armenian Railways was handed over to the
South Caucasus Railways on February 13, 2008 for 30-year concession
management with a right to prolong the management term for other 10
years.

Leader of the People’s Party Tigran Karapetyan is sure the “Diversity
Parade” conducted on May 21 in Yerevan is nothing else but an attempt
to divert people’s attention from post-electoral developments.

They have made up a gay parade to make people forget about the
elections, he said. “There cannot be such a shameful thing in Armenia,”
Karapetyan said.

Tigran Karapetyan noted he is so much disappointed from the elections
that is going to take a political vacation.

“They have fully bought the people. Communists deprived the people
of faith, the current authorities of dignity,” Karapetyan said,
referring to elections.

He said he has bought tickets for June 4 and will depart from Armenia.

The party’s leader did not elaborate on how long his rest will last
and on whether he will run for presidency in 2013 or not. The only
answer was “We’ll see”.

Journalists, bloggers, a wide range of political activists, and
musicians and artists too, continue to be intimidated, censored,
imprisoned and even violently attacked in Azerbaijan, says Kirsty
Hughes, Chief Executive of Index on Censorship, in her letter,
published by the international business newspaper “Financial Times”.

“The biggest surprise, given Azerbaijan’s record, is not perhaps that
it has been allowed to host Eurovision but that it remains a member
of the Council of Europe in the face of such attacks on free speech
and its lamentable failings in establishing any genuine semblance of
democracy,” it is said in the letter.

The UK – heading into the London Olympics – can be more confident it
can withstand a spotlight on its own democracy and rights record. But
Prime Minister David Cameron must think twice before welcoming
the heads of state of such rights-abusing countries as Azerbaijan,
Bahrain and Ukraine, notes Kirsty Hughes in her letter.

AYF TO HOST FUNDRAISER TO BENEFIT ARTSAKH WAR VETERANS

PanARMENIAN.Net – The Armenian Youth Federation’s “With Our Soldiers”
campaign will host a fundraiser to celebrate the 20th anniversary
of the liberation of Shushi and benefit the treatment and needs of
Artsakh veterans, Asbarez reported citing the AYF Central Executive.

The event called “Sushi for Shushi” will take place at 6 pm on
Thursday, May 31 at the Ferrahian school, Encino, CA.

All proceeds from the event will benefit veterans of the Artsakh war
still dealing with combat injuries, as part of the ongoing With Our
Soldiers campaign.

TODAY IS SOGHOMON TEHLIRIAN COMMEMORATION DAY

May 23 is a day to commemorate Soghomon Tehlerian, an Armenian national
hero who became famed for assassinating the chief perpetrator of the
Genocide, Talaat Pasha, in 1921.

Tehlirian was born in Bagaritch, Western Armenia in 1896. After
completing his preliminary education in his hometown, he pursued
further studies at the Central College of Yerznka.

In 1913, Tehlirian moved to Serbia, but following the breakout of World
War I, he departed to Armenia to join a voluntary detachment led by
the legendary hero, Zoravar Andranik (Andranik Ozanyan). A survivor of
the Armenian Genocide, Tehlirian was deeply moved by the big tragedy.

In 1921, Tehlirian joined the Armenian Revolutionary
Federation-Dashnaksutyun’s Operation Nemesis, a covert plan aimed at
assassinating the architects of the 21st century’s first heinous crime
against humanity. He gunned down Talaat Pasha in the Charlottenburg
District of Berlin, Germany on March 15, 1921 as an act of vengeance
for Talaat’s role in orchestrating the Genocide. Tehlirian was tried
and subsequently acquitted by a German court.

The trial of Tehlirian was a rather sensationalized event at the time,
with the hero being defended by three attorneys.. It examined not only
Tehlirian’s actions but also his conviction that Talaat Pasha was the
main author of the Armenian deportation and mass killings. The defense
attorneys made no attempt to deny the fact that Tehlirian had killed
a man, and instead focused on the influence of the Armenian Genocide
on Tehlirian’s mental state. It took the jury slightly over an hour
to render a verdict of “not guilty” on grounds of temporary insanity.

Later in the year, one of the streets in the district was named
after Tehlirian. On June 2, 1921, the German court declared the the
hero invincible.

Le president turc Abdullah Gul a annonce mardi que l’administration
americaine etait favorable a la vente a son pays de drones armes

convaincre le Congrès americain a cette fin. “En fait l’administration
americaine est favorable (a cette vente), ils s’efforcent de convaincre
le Congrès”, a-t-il declare au terme d’un entretien lundi soir avec

a Chicago.

La Turquie souhaite acquerir un nombre indetermine de ces appareils
pour combattre les membres du Parti des travailleurs du Kurdistan
(PKK, interdit) en Turquie et dans le nord de l’Irak, où ils disposent
de repaires, mais le Congrès n’y serait pas enclin en raisons des
tensions entre la Turquie et Israël.

M. Gul a exhorte les Etats-Unis, allie traditionnel de la Turquie au
sein de l’Otan, a “faire confiance” a son pays.

La loi americaine oblige l’administration a informer le Congrès avant
toute transaction de taille portant sur des armes.

L’armee americaine a utilise les drones Predator non armes depuis ses
bases irakiennes depuis 2007 puis depuis une base du Sud de la Turquie
peu avant son retrait d’Irak fin 2011 et a partage les renseignements
recueillis avec les autorites turques.

UNE EGLISE ET UNE ECOLE ARMENIENNES ATTAQUEES PAR LA REBELLION

Samedi dernier, une eglise et une ecole armenienne ont ete attaquees
a Homs par des membres de l’opposition syrienne.

Le representant de la communaute armenienne locale, Nazareth Elmadjian,
explique que l’ecole Issahakian, attaquee par l’opposition, travaille
sous les auspices de la prelature de l’Eglise syrienne apostolique
armenienne.

L’ecole est situee dans le district d’Hamidia a Homs, qui est
essentiellement peuple par des chretiens arabes. Les forces de
l’opposition ont saisi l’ecole et l’eglise, qui seront utilises comme
hôpital et un centre de convalescence.

L’armee syrienne n’est pas intervenue dans le quartier en raison
du nombre important de civils vivants dans la zone, a rapporte la
communaute.

LE CREATEUR D’UN VIRUS INFORMATIQUE CONDAMNE A 4 ANS DE PRISON

Un tribunal de district a Erevan a condamne mardi 22 mai 2012 un
ressortissant russe d’origine armenienne a quatre ans de prison. Il
est accuse d’avoir propage un virus informatique qui aurait infecte
30 millions d’ordinateurs dans le monde entier. Georgy Avanesov est
âge de 27 ans et est la première personne a etre emprisonne en Armenie
pour des accusations de cybercriminalite. Il a ete reconnu coupable de
” sabotage informatique ” environ deux ans après avoir ete arrete a
l’aeroport d’Erevan.

L’arrestation est intervenue peu de temps après que les autorites
des Pays-Bas ont reprime un groupe de pirates qui aurait infecte des
milliers d’ordinateurs a travers le monde par le virus ” Bredolab “,
un virus qui donnerait accès aux mots de passe de comptes bancaires
et a d’autres informations confidentielles.

Selon l’agence de nouvelles AFP, les enqueteurs neerlandais ont affirme
que le serveur du reseau base en Hollande utilise par le groupe etait
capable d’infecter trois millions d’ordinateurs par mois.

3,6 milliards de spams auraient ete envoyes depuis 2009.

Au cours du procès de G. Avanesov, les procureurs armeniens ont affirme
que le jeune homme a developpe le Bredolab en Armenie entre les mois
de mars et de juin 2009. Ils ont aussi affirme que G.

Avanesov a utilise des serveurs informatiques en Hollande et en France
pour la propagation du virus. Il aurait attaque au moins 194 sites
et 30 millions d’ordinateurs en octobre 2010.

Au cours de l’enquete prealable au procès, G. Avanesov aurait reconnu
etre l’auteur du virus. Mais il a nie avoir une intention criminelle,
affirmant qu’il a transmis le virus a une personne inconnue par
le biais d’Internet et n’etait pas au courant de son utilisation
criminelle.

EXPLOSIVE DEVICE DETONATED NEAR TURKISH PROVINCIAL MAYOR’S CAR

PanARMENIAN.Net – An explosive device was detonated next to a mayor’s
automobile in Turkey’s southern province of Hatay early on May 21
morning, Hurriyet Daily News reported.

Necmettin Acar, the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP)
mayor for Karaagac, said he was at home watching television when he
was jolted by a powerful explosion at around 3 am.

Acar said he went outside to see his car damaged in an apparent bomb
attack. The blast also caused damage to Acar’s house and lawn, and
his neighbors came out of their homes in panic. No one was injured
in the attack.

Police arrived at the scene and started an investigation to determine
the type of explosive and the people who carried out the attack.

Acar said he did not have problems with anyone.
