ARMENIAN GOVERNMENT TO FACE NO SIGNIFICANT CHANGES IN PERSONNEL: PM

YEREVAN, JUNE 12, ARMENPRESS: There are numerous parties, political
powers to come forth with objective assessments concerning the work
of the Government. Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Tigran
Sargsyan had a briefing with the journalists on June 12.

“Highly respecting the opposition remarks, we cannot be guided
by their views. Reportedly there are many achievements, progress,
disadvantages and we are focusing on the work done which creates a
basis for our country to move forward” the head of the Cabinet stated,
Armenpress reports.

According to Sargsyan the whole problem is we see what we want to see.

When being objective it will be possible to notice the tremendous
amount of work done. ” The most significant work is we managed to
govern the country without serious problems in the days world was
facing crisis. We take easily those assessments, approaches; surely
simultaneously we inform the public that this is the stance of the
minority of our citizens; May 6 Parliamentary Elections came to
prove it.

In the words of PM Sargsyan the majority relies on them, and the
Government is formed on that trust. We have always stated objective
criticism strengthens the Government, enabling us to identify our
shortcomings and focus on them. The stronger is our opposition the
stronger is Government and the state.

” This is the logic of democratic society development” Sargsyan
underscored. In the words of Armenian Prime Minister by the end of
the week Government Personnel will become known the public, the main
team will maintain.

Expert: Solution Key In Artsakh

“The recent two incidents were, first of all, unprecedented in their
size and secondly, certain operations were carried out against the
civilians,” expert Edgar Hovhannisyan told Panorama.am commenting
on the recent armed incidents along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border,
assaults, and sniper shootings.

He said such provocations appeared on the border earlier, but they
were different.

“The OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs are encouraged to pay attention on the
fact that this time Armenian-Azerbaijani border was targeted. This
is a fact deserving attention of the international community,” said
E Hovhannisyan.

Expert said during the U.S. Secretary of State Clinton’s visit
Azerbaijan aimed to prove it owns the situation and dictates the
rules of the game.

“However, the international community could see Azerbaijan and states
supporting it are guilty in regional instability.”

Responding to Azerbaijani activities, the international community
refused its working style underlining the conflict has no military
settlement, said E Hovhannisyan.

“The international community must understand that the key to the
problem is in Artsakh, and its attendance to the negotiations is a
priority,” said the expert.

Senate Panel To Consider Morningstar Nomination Wednesday

SENATE PANEL TO CONSIDER MORNINGSTAR NOMINATION WEDNESDAY

Richard Morningstar is President Obama’s nominee for the US
Ambassadorship in Azerbaijan

Hearing will be broadcast live by the Senate Foreign Relations
Committee

WASHINGTON-The U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee will consider
President Obama’s nomination of Richard Morningstar to serve as
Ambassador to Azerbaijan, during a hearing on Wednesday, June 13 at
2:45 p.m. Eastern/11:45 a.m. Pacific that will be webcast live on the
panel’s website, reported the Armenian National Committee of America.

“Ambassador Morningstar’s confirmation hearing is an opportunity
for the Senate to shed light on the question that’s really at the
heart of U.S.-Azerbaijani relations: ‘Is the Administration ready
to forcefully challenge Baku’s threats and acts of aggression, or
will it simply continue cheerleading for Ilham Aliyev’s military
escalation and march toward war?'” said ANCA Executive Director Aram
Hamparian. “We look forward to members of the Committee giving this
important nomination the attention and scrutiny it clearly deserves.”

The nomination hearing comes just a week after a marked escalation
in Azerbaijani attacks against Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh which
led to 8 deaths. The cross-border fighting occurred during Secretary
of State Hillary Clinton’s visit to the region, prompting Clinton to
once again to urge the end of violence, but stopping short of properly
condemning Azerbaijani aggression.

Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), the Chairwoman of the panel’s
subcommittee dealing with European affairs, is scheduled to lead the
hearing, which affords members the opportunity to exercise their
advise and consent responsibilities by reviewing candidates for
diplomatic posts, conducting oversight of executive branch activities,
and exploring the various policy issues related to their future
responsibilities.

Richard L. Morningstar currently serves as the U.S. Special Envoy
for Eurasian Energy. His experience in the Caucasus includes his
appointment as Special Advisor to the President and Secretary of
State for Caspian Basin Energy Diplomacy, where he was responsible
for assuring maximum coordination within the Executive Branch
and with other governments and international organizations to
promote United States policies on Caspian Basin energy development
and transportation. From April 1995 to July 1998, he served as
Ambassador and Special Advisor to the President and Secretary of
State on Assistance for the New Independent States of the Former
Soviet Union where he oversaw all U.S. bilateral assistance and trade
investment activities in the NIS. Read his complete biography on the
State Department.

Former U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan Cashes in on Aliyev Ties
Ambassador Morningstar’s nomination follows the ill-fated Senate
consideration of Matthew Bryza for the same post in 2009. Bryza was
never confirmed by the Senate, eventually serving a one-year term as
Ambassador through a recess appointment by President Obama amid Senate
and Armenian American concerns of both bias and conflict of interest
related to his close ties to Azerbaijan’s corrupt Aliyev regime. Those
concerns have been confirmed by Bryza, himself, in interviews given
following his departure from the U.S. Foreign service and reinforced
by his recent decision to join the Board of Turcas Petrol company,
which is partly controlled by the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan
Republic (SOCAR).

“It’s regrettable that Mr. Bryza was allowed, for so long, to use
his senior U.S. government postings as a platform to advance his own
agenda regarding Ankara and Baku,” explained Hamparian. “Mr. Bryza –
with his own words, actions, and choice of employment – has confirmed
the fears of his critics, vindicated those who opposed his nomination,
and embarrassed many in the foreign policy community whose knee-jerk
reaction was to stand in his defense, but who today, upon reflection,
respect and likely even share the very legitimate reasons for the
ANCA’s opposition to his confirmation.”

In the early morning the self-defense forces of the Martuni region of
Nagorno Karabakh began an operation to destroy the military strongholds
in the villages of the Aghdam region of Azerbaijan.

Everything was going as planned. By noon the operation was over.

Monte, Komitas, Saribek, Saro, Hovik, and Gevork entered the Marzili
village riding in a Vilis.

After examining the territory they were to determine the new
positions. When they were approaching a crossroads they noticed an
armored vehicle and stopped the Vilis. At a distance of 40 meters
a group of soldiers gathered around the vehicle. Komitas, who was
wearing an Azerbaijani military uniform, got out of the car and walked
towards them. He called to them, “Are you Armenians?” They answered
“No” in Azerbaijani. Komitas would later say that the moment he asked
the question he knew they were enemy soldiers. He opened fire and
retreated. The others jumped out the car and took positions, firing.

The vehicle’s large-caliber machine-gun joined the enemy’s submachine
gunners. During the first burst of gunfire, the men were lying on the
ground. Monte rushed towards the wall of the nearest house. The second
machine-gun burst resounded. It hit the wall… A large fragment of
a shell pierced Monte’s head. Four of the men were already wounded.

Holding Monte, Hovik called for help over the radio transmitter – 00
is shot, 00 is no more… They took position around their commander
and continued to resist. The relief forces destroyed the Azerbaijani
detachment, and took a prisoner. The reconnaissance chief, Saribek
Martirosyan, was bleeding profusely and died as soon as they reached
the hospital.

RIVLIN DEFENDS SPECIAL KNESSET SESSION ON ARMENIAN GENOCIDE
By GIL HOFFMAN

Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin said Monday that Tuesday’s special
session of the parliament on Turkey’s genocide of a million and a
half Armenians nearly 100 years ago had nothing to do with current
poor relations with the country.

Rivlin said the Armenian genocide was “a tragic part of history that
the world must be aware of to ensure that it will not be repeated.”

Rivlin decided to make the annual event more formal by giving the
issue its own day in the Knesset rather than holding it on a Monday
or Wednesday when legislation is discussed.

YEREVAN

YEREVAN, JUNE 11, ARMENPRESS: During discussions over the Armenian
Genocide due in Israel’s parliament – Knesset, representatives of that
country’s government will have to answer questions of MPs concerning
the issue.

Hakob Sevan, representative of the Armenian Cause Jerusalem Office,
told Armenpress that from the very beginning there was a fear that
keeping the issue on the agenda of the Knesset

Committee for Education, the discussion of the latter could be
protracted, which was mainly conditioned by Israel’s issues of home
politics.

“No document will be adopted as a result of the discussions; just
answers and questions. Our main task will be to draw the attention of
Israel’s government and society to the genocide issue,” Mr Sevan noted.

Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin allowed extending public discussions on
the occasion of the 97th anniversary of the Armenian genocide June 17.

Oskanian Statement

OSKANIAN STATEMENT

The National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia has summoned
me to offer testimony in relation to a criminal case regarding money
laundering, involving myself and the Civilitas Foundation, which
I founded.

>From the start, the Civilitas Foundation has been transparent, and
operated in accordance with the spirit and the letter of Armenian law.

Since its first days in 2008, the Civilitas Foundation’s programs have
been supported by the governments of the Netherlands and Poland, the
foreign ministries of Norway and Germany, the international development
organizations of Switzerland and the UK, the US Embassy in Yerevan,
the OSCE Yerevan Office, as well as other well-known organizations,
corporations and individuals.

This has been public information. The government agencies of the
Republic of Armenia clearly could not have been ignorant about these
relationships.

I find it strange and astonishing therefore that my work and the work
of Civilitas can in any way be linked to money laundering or illegally
acquired funds. Even more astonishing is that such a question is
being raised at a time when I have entered politics.

It is obvious to me that the criminal case that has been opened is
politically motivated.
