TURKOLOGIST: HUNGARY’S DISGRACEFUL ACT WITH AZERBAIJAN HAS UNDERMINED EU’S REPUTATION

Hungary’s disgraceful act with Azerbaijan has undermined the European
Union’s reputation but this will not affect our cooperation with
Europe, Turkologist Ruben Melkonyan said in an interview with ArmInfo
when asked to comment of Hungary’s decision to extradite murderer
Ramil Safarov to Azerbaijan.

He believes that now that Azerbaijan has shown its true face, the
OSCE Minsk Group should change its policy as it is already clear who
is who in the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process.

Melkonyan said that Russia’s silence may disappoint the Armenians.

“The Russians have no right not to condemn the Azeris’ meanness. On
the other hand, they have their own interests in the region and are
a the OSCE MG co-chair, so, they may just be unwilling to spoil their
relations with Azerbaijan,” the expert said.

ARMENIAN COMMUNITY IN HUNGARY DEMANDS ORBAN’S RESIGNATION

YEREVAN

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 3, ARMENPRESS: Armenian community in Budapest is
organizing protest action in front of the governmental building at
6 PM against Hungarian authorities’ steps: the extradition of Ramil
Safarov who hacked Armenian officer Gurgen Margaryan to death. Among
other Hungarians Ex-Prime Minister of Hungry Gyurcsany Ferenc will
participate in this protest. This will be the continuation of Budapest
protest action on September 2.

,,During the protest in front of the governmental building on September
2 the protestors demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Victor
Orban. Tomorrow joining Armenian community thousands of Hungarians
will protest against the decision of their own authorities about
the transfer of perpetrator Ramil Safarov” said the representative
of Armenian community Arayik Grigoryan during the interview with
Armenpress’s reporter.

Azeri perpetrator Ramil Safarov hacked Armenian officer Gurgen
Margaryan with an axe during the training courses organized by NATO
in Budapest on February 19, 2004. Safarov was sentenced to a life
imprisonment without the right of granting clemency in first 30 years.

BAKU: ‘Sargsyan’s War Statement Is Designed For Public’

‘SARGSYAN’S WAR STATEMENT IS DESIGNED FOR PUBLIC’

News.Az
Monday, 03 September 2012 13:23 .

Armenia’s victory over Azerbaijan is impossible, while Azerbaijan
can destroy Armenia’s army within a short period of time.

Chairman of the Azerbaijani-Belgian Friendship Society Ayhan Demirci
has told the statement to Gun.Az while commenting on Sargsyan’s
statement that his country is ready to win any war against Azerbaijan.

“The Armenian government should keep in mind that Azerbaijan can rout
Armenia in the war, and economically and socially weakening Armenia
can fall as a state. In addition, the Azerbaijani army can move up
to ancient Azerbaijani land of Iravan.

I think that Sargsyan has designed this statement for public, and this
statement he just tries to settle the people down. This is because
the transfer of Ramil Safarov to Azerbaijan has exacerbated the
situation in Armenia. But today the reality is that Azerbaijani army
is the strongest army in the region and it continues to strengthen,”
Demirci said.

hongrois.

Generations For Peace sport camp held in Armenia

Sunday, 02 September 2012
By David Gold

September 2 – Generations For Peace delegates Aram and Satenik
Tiraturyan have organised a sport camp for 40 youngsters in Gymuri,
Armenia.

The pair attended a sports camp run by Generations For Peace two years
ago in Sochi, Russia, the host city of the next Winter Olympic and
Paralympics in 2014.

They said they were inspired to organise a camp in their homeland to
help promote peace in the region.

Gymuri suffers from poverty, unemployment and the after effects from a
huge earthquake which ripped through the area in 1988.

“After we attended the Generations For Peace Sochi Camp in 2010, we
felt that we had a responsibility towards our country,” said Satenik.

“We planned our camp so that it would provide a fun and interactive
entry point for helping children traumatised by the natural disasters
and resulting economic situation in Armenia to overcome their social
problems.”

Generations For Peace trains young delegates and uses sport as a tool
to promote peace in some of the worst affected conflict regions in the
world.

The organisation was set up by Jordan’s International Olympic
Committee (IOC) member Prince Feisal in 2007, and has trained hundreds
of delegates from areas including the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

Generations For Peace claim to have reached more than 75,000 children
in the last five years.

“Children in Armenia have suffered a great deal during the past
years,” said Aram.

“We wanted to create a safe environment for them here and to help them
live a normal life, and to promote respect and tolerance through
teamwork.

“Our programme is only a small step towards the change process, but we
believe it will make a difference.”

Deukmejian just keeps adding to his legacy

Long Beach Press-Telegram,

Deukmejian just keeps adding to his legacy

by Tim Grobaty, Columnistpresstelegram.com

George Deukmejian was the 35th governor of California, serving from
1983 to 1991. He has lived in Long Beach with his wife, Gloria, since
their marriage in 1957.

Question: Did you watch Clint Eastwood during the convention? What was
that all about?

Answer: It was pretty weird.

Q: When he did the Super Bowl ad, the conservatives were outraged
because they thought he was making a liberal statement. Now the
liberals are outraged because he’s a conservative who talks to chairs.
What is Clint Eastwood all about?

A: I’ve met with him, particularly when he was mayor of Carmel. I
think he’s liberal on some issues, but he’s mostly right-leaning.

Q: What has happened to your Grand Old Party?

A: That’s what I wonder.

Q: Is the Tea Party making things difficult for the Republicans?

A: In some areas. It seems in the House of Representatives, that House
Speaker John Boehner has had some difficulties with them. I remember
very well that we had some real hard right-wingers in the (state)
Assembly and (state) Senate. They will push and push and push. It has
some influence, but generally these things get ironed out and
compromises are made. You have the same kinds of hard-liners on the
Democrats’ side, too.

Q: Your biography on the state’s “Governor’s Gallery” begins: “As a
young boy, George Deukmejian was considered polite, good natured and
studious.” How many politicians can that be said about these days?

A: I was polite and good-natured. I don’t know where they came up with
the “studious” part.

Q: Both you and your wife are Armenian. Is that a coincidence, or did
you meet at some Armenian dating club?

A: We met at a wedding between two Armenians. Her parents, like mine,
were chased out of Turkey. Hers settled in Long Beach. Both of our
families were invited to this wedding in 1956. Gloria and I danced at
the wedding, then we started dating. I was living in Los Angeles, so I
had to come down to Long Beach to take her out, and that’s how I got
acquainted with Long Beach, and particularly Belmont Shore.

Q: That’s where you opened your office.

A: I had just come to Long Beach and I went down to the office of the
Marina News, which was before the Grunion Gazette, and I asked are
there any lawyers in the Shore, and they said no. They were all
downtown back then. So I opened my office above Coast Bank, which was
later Blockbuster Video. I got involved with the Shore. I joined the
Belmont Shore Business Association and in my first year they made me
president.

Q: Then you ran for Assembly with the invaluable help of my beloved
grandmother and great-grandmother.

A: They were a huge help, especially in getting the women’s vote out for me.

Q: We’re kingmakers. I remember walking precincts with my dad.
Horrible way to spend a Saturday.

A: I walked them, too. Back then, being an assemblyman was a part-time
job. Every other year, we would convene for just a month or two to do
the budget, and that was all we did for that year. But with the budget
session, the governor could put in additional items that he wanted.
Pat Brown was adding more items every time, so the 30-60-day sessions
grew to 90, then 120-day sessions, so in 1966, voters changed it to a
full-time legislature. But when it was part time, I didn’t have a
budget for radio or TV, so it was direct mail and walking the
precinct. Saw some pretty funny things doing that.

Q: Anything involving naked housewives?

A: No. I wish. There was this one guy who just yelled at me to come
in. So I opened the screen door – no one closed their doors in those
days – and I was walking in an I saw this huge iguana on top of the
bar that held his living room drapes. Scared me to death.

Q: Did you run out screaming at the top of your lungs?

A: No. I kept my cool. But it was a strange experience.

Q: Do you monkey around at all with city government in Long Beach?

A: Not too much. I have endorsed candidates in my district. I help out
at fundraising events if they need me. Currently, I’m helping Gary
DeLong. I still get asked for endorsements, but I tell them, “Look,
everyone I endorse loses.”

Q: You have a lot of things named after you, including two streets in
Long Beach.

A: Yes. And did you know there’s a Deukmejian Wilderness Park in Glendale?

Q: No. Did you know there’s a baseball diamond named Grobaty Field in
Lucerne Valley?

A: I did not.

Q: The best thing for you, though, is the new courthouse downtown
being named for you. That’s huge.

A: What a wonderful, amazing honor. I came to Long Beach in 1958 and I
didn’t know anyone except my wife and now to have a courthouse named
for me is really a thrilling honor. Nothing I ever expected. Now the
challenge is to stay alive until it opens.

Q: No, you’re fine. Most people are dead before something is named
after them. Just being alive long enough to know is good enough. You
can die happy now.

A: Thanks.

Aliyev’s Pardon of Ramil Safarov Turns Baku Into Capital for Axe-Mur

PRESS RELEASE

Aliyev’s Pardon of Ramil Safarov Turns Baku Into Capital for Axe-Murderers

The Armenian Rights Council of Australia (ARCA) condemns the decision
of the Hungarian Government to release to Azerbaijan Azeri
axe-murderer Ramil Safarov.
Ramil Safarov’s became notorious when in 2004 he killed Armenian
officer Gurgen Markaryan during NATO training exercises in Hungary.

Despite Azerbaijan giving assurances to Hungary that Safarov would be
serving out his sentence in Azerbaijan, the axe murderer of the
Armenian officer was promptly
pardoned by Azeri dictator Aliyev who also acts as lifetime president
of the corrupt oil based/backed regime operating out of Baku.

For Azeris, Safarov has been greeted as a hero but in humanities eyes,
he is nothing but a coward killer as he slayed his victim Gurgen
Markaryan with an axe while the latter
was sleeping. Now the Azeris have another hero axe-murderer and a
coward to be proud of!

The Armenian authorities reacted to Hungary’s decision and Aliyev’s
immediate pardoning of the axe-killer by suspending all diplomatic
ties with Hungary. The motive of
the Hungarian authorities may be financial as reports are circulating
that Azerbaijan has promised billions of dollars in monetary
assistance to Hungary.

At the time of writing reports are emerging from the United States of
America that President Obama and the State Department are `deeply
concerned’ and `extremely
troubled’ by Aliyev’s decision to pardon the axe-murderer. The US
officials have also requested an explanation from the Hungarian
authorities concerning their decision to
transfer Safarov to Azerbaijan.

ARCA supports the suspension of Armenia’s diplomatic ties with Hungary
until such time that a proper apology is provided by the Hungarian
authorities for their misguided action.
ARCA demands that the Hungarian authorities disclose the full details
of their agreement with Azerbaijan that culminated in the transfer of
Safarov from Hungary to Azerbaijan.
ARCA also considers Aliyev’s pardon as a `strategic error’ that will
prove critical in future negotiations concerning the final status of
the Nagorno-Karabagh Republic.

We pose the following questions to the international community, how
can the safety of 140,000 Armenian citizens of the Nagorno-Karabagh
Republic be guaranteed under Azeri rule when the Azeri president takes
such an anti-Armenian measure by pardoning the axe-murderer of
Armenian officer Gurgen Markaryan?

How could Azeri dictator Aliyev’s words, pledges and commitments be
trusted, when he could not even honour the pledge he gave to Hungary
to let the Azeri coward and axe- murderer to serve out the rest of his
sentence in Azerbaijan?

Aliyev may be basking in the Baku sun proud of his efforts at freeing
the Azeri axe- murderer, and Safarov may be free to roam the streets
of Baku thanks to his patron Aliyev. But the question remains for how
long will Safarov manage to escape justice for spilling innocent
Armenian blood?

If history is a reliable indicator it may not be for too long as was
the case for the perpetrators of the Armenian Genocide Talaat Pasha,
Djemal Pasha and Enver Pasha.

Hundreds protest in Yerevan against Hungary’s extradition of Safarov

Hundreds protest in Yerevan against Hungary’s extradition of Azeri
killer of Armenian officer

YEREVAN. Sept 1

Hundreds of people have gathered in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia,
to protest Hungary’s decision to transfer to Azerbaijan Azeri military
officer Ramil Safarov serving a life sentence for killing an Armenian
officer.

About 300 people gathered in front of the Hungarian consulate office
in the center of Yerevan and torched a Hungarian flag on Saturday.

Activists from the organization Ayazn, which initiated the protest,
have glued numerous posters to the consulate’s doors and walls,
saying, ‘Hungary, good bye’, ‘Are you insane, Hungary?’, ‘Pay 3
billion and buy a murderer’ and others and also threw coins on the
ground near the building.

Before this, a similar protest demonstration took place near the
Armenian Foreign Ministry headquarters.

It was reported earlier that Gurgen Margarian, an Armenian army
lieutenant, who was taking an English language course in Budapest
under NATO’s Partnership For Peace program, was killed with an axe in
his sleep by Azeri officer Ramil Safarov attending the same course on
February 19, 2004. A Budapest court sentenced Safarov to life without
the right to parole during the first 30 years of his imprisonment on
April 13, 2006. However, Hungary extradited Safarov to Azerbaijan on
Friday, and Azeri President Ilham Aliyev immediately pardoned him.

Armenia announced the severance of diplomatic ties with Hungary later
on Friday. “I am declaring officially that we are severing diplomatic
relations and all official ties with Hungary starting from today,”
Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan said at a meeting with ambassadors
from UN countries accredited in Armenia on Friday.

“Neither I nor the people of Armenia can accept this. The Armenian
people will not forgive this,” Sargsyan said.

Armenian media reported earlier citing Hungarian publications that
Azerbaijan was preparing to buy Hungarian state bonds worth from 2 to
3 billion euro.

Washington has expressed its concerns about Aliyev’s decision to
pardon the murderer of the Armenian officer and demanded explanations
from Budapest regarding his transfer to Azerbaijan.

“The United States is also requesting an explanation from Hungary
regarding its decision to transfer Safarov to Azerbaijan,” U.S.
National Security Council Spokesman Tommy Vietor said in a statement
posted on the White House website.
