between the police and the media is the aim of a two-day workshop that
started in Tsakhkadzor, Armenia today. The two-day event is
co-organized by the OSCE Office in Yerevan and the Armenian police.

As OCSE Office in Yerevan informed Armenpress , some 30 media
representatives and 20 police officers will discuss media coverage of
sensitive areas, such as pre-trial investigation of criminal cases,
cases involving juveniles and drug trafficking.” Effective
co-operation between the police and the media is essential for society
to be better informed about police activities and the overall security
situation in the country, which in turn can help police fight
crime”said Ambassador Andrey Sorokin, Head of the OSCE Office in
Yerevan.

Dusko Zavisic, an expert from the OSCE Mission in Kosovo, will
participate in a workshop to share his experience of police-media
co-operation with Armenian counterparts. Lieutenant-General Vladimir
Gasparyan, the Head of the Armenian Police, welcomed the initiative:
Enhancing co-operation with the media is in line with our efforts to
raise the transparency of police work. Journalists should be well
informed about the specifics of police activities in order to provide
objective and correct information to people. The goal of today’s event
is also to discuss the problems and general concerns with finding
common solutions.

The OSCE Office in Yerevan has been implementing a number of
activities to promote better police-media co-operation since 2009.
This includes roundtable discussions between police officers and media
representatives in Armenian regions, the production of a guidebook for
the police on how to deal with the media, training for police officers
involved in press and public affairs and the modernization of the
police website to provide up-to-date information to the public.

Archbishop Yeghishe Gizirian Celebrates 65th Anniversary of Joining Priesthood

Archbishop Gizirian

This year Archbishop Yeghishe Gizirian is celebrating the 65th
Anniversary of his being ordained into priesthood of the Holy Armenian
Orthodox Church. British Armenians remember the Archbishop with deep
fondness and affection, as between 1982 and 2002, he served as Primate
of the Armenian Churches in the United Kingdom.

Archbishop Gizirian was much loved and respected by all British
Armenians. He was wholly dedicated to his duties as Primate, and full
of humility. As a humble clergyman, he had no qualms at all to serve
the community by wholeheartedly supporting and working with the
Armenian Community and Church Council of Great Britain (ACCC), and
almost every Sunday he would serve Mass at the ACCC’s community
church, the St Peter’s Church (later re-consecrated the St Yeghiche
Church) in South Kensington.

A native of Damascus, Syria, Archbishop Gizirian studied at the
Seminary of the Catholicosate of Cilicia in Antelias, Lebanon. He was
ordained a celibate priest in 1947 by the late Bishop Terenig
Poladian.

He moved to the United States in 1951, where he served as the Pastor
of the Holy Cross Church of New York City; St. John the Baptist Church
of Miami; Holy Mother of God Church of Newark, N.J.; the Holy Saviour
Church of Worcester, Mass.; St. John the Baptist Church of Detroit,
Michigan.; Sts. Sahag and Mesrob Church of Wynnewood, Pennsylvania;
and Holy Trinity Church of Cambridge, Massachusetts.

In 1982, Fr. Gizirian was ordained a Bishop in the Cathedral of Holy
Etchmiadzin by His Holiness Vasken I, the late Supreme Patriarch and
Catholicos of All Armenians. In March of that year he was elected by
the ACCC of Great Britain as Primate of the United Kingdom and at
their request, His Holiness Vasken I appointed him Primate and
Pontifical Legate of the Armenian Churches of the United Kingdom.

In 1993, he was elevated to the rank of Archbishop.

After 20 years of service in the United Kingdom, he retired from the
position of Primate, and returned to the United States, where he now
divides his time between visiting parishes, representing the Diocese
at official functions, and serving as the spiritual father of St.
Nersess Armenian Seminary in New Rochelle, N.Y.

The Armenian Community and Church Council of Great Britain will always
be grateful to Archbishop Gizirian for his support and cooperation,
and on behalf of the British Armenian community, the ACCC was pleased
to send a letter of congratulations and good wished to the Archbishop.

PanARMENIAN.Net – A statement from a secret witness alleged that an

Erdoðan in 2004-2005 has stirred up the Ergenekon trial, Hurriyet

The 248th trial in the ongoing Ergenekon case opened in Istanbul with
the statements of “Secret witness Selçuk,” who claimed that defendants
Arif Doðan, Veli Küçük, Levent Ersöz and Muzaffer Tekin were involved
in an attempt to assassinate Erdoðan by planting C4 explosives in his
car.

He claimed that a Lieutenant Colonel had requested the help of a
carwash attendant near Erdoðan’s home for the assassination attempt,
but added that the worker did not want to get involved.

The witness said he was in charge between 1991 and 1999 as an
intelligence officer in the gendarmerie, adding that during this time
Ersöz and Küçük had connections with Russian military intelligence
services.

“They were sending narcotic substances abroad and they were claiming
to be patriots,” he said.

Küçük’s daughter, acting as his lawyer, fainted in the court following
these allegations.

ARMENIAN MANUFACTURERS ENCOUNTER THE SAME PROBLEM

Representatives of at least 50 companies engaged in the manufacturing,
processing and trading of food are participating in the ArmProd EXPO
2012 annual exhibition underway in the RA government building. Food and
beverage producers and suppliers from Artsakh are also participating
in the exhibition.

Entrepreneurs from Armenia and Artsakh face the same problems
connected with the consumption market. “We have our special place
in the market and we are not going to yield it to some other company
that enjoys monopoly,” said Arthur Asryan, Director of the Yerevan
branch of Stepanakert Brandy Company.

Representatives of small and middle-sized businesses say confess that
they cannot expand their activities because of heavy taxes.

This year visitors have to pay AMD 500 to walked round the exhibition
halls and get acquainted with the products. The organizers say the
money will be used for charitable purposes.

The exhibition is organized by the Ministry of Agriculture in
cooperation with the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs
(Employers) of Armenia and LOGOS EXPO Center.
