ALIYEV SAYS ‘ARMENIAN LOBBY IS OUR MAIN ENEMY’

Azeri president Ilham Aliyev

BAKU-The “Armenian Lobby is our main enemy,” said Azerbaijani
President Ilham Aliyev on Saturday during a reception marking the
20th anniversary of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party (YAP).

“I have repeatedly said and I want to repeat it in the open that the
Armenian lobby is our enemy. This is because Armenia, as a country,
is of no importance. In fact, it is a colony, an outpost; a territory
governed from abroad which was artificially created in ancient
Azerbaijani lands,” said Aliyev who is also the chairman of YAP.

“The Armenian lobby is our main enemy and we are the main enemy for
them. In fact, the source of our enmity with them is their enmity
with us. Second is anti-Azerbaijani center, structures and circles
infected with Islamophobia. Unfortunately, their number is growing
all the time,” added Aliyev.

“The growth in their number was manifested during the elections
held in some countries. The results of elections make the growth
of the rating of Islamophobia forces clear. The young, dynamically
developing, independent and modern Muslim country- Azerbaijan –
has become a problem for them since it does not fit their stereotypes.

Their stereotypes seek to show Muslims in the world as a backward
nation and people,” said Aliyev.

PROSPEROUS ARMENIA TO CONTINUE POLITICAL CONSULTATIONS, TO PREPARE ‘SERIOUS POLITICAL AGENDA’

Panorama.am

Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) will continue political consultations
with Free Democrats as well as other political forces, and we are
hopeful that before the 2013 presidential elections we will form such
a serious political agenda which will lead to systemic changes in
the country, PAP parliamentary faction secretary Naira Zohrabyan told
Panorama.am after the political consultation with Free Democrats party.

The meeting with Free Democrats was efficient, Mrs Zohrabyan noted.

Common approaches towards a lot of serious issues were outlined during
the meeting, which could help form a political agenda, she added.

Prosperous Armenia plans to hold discussions with extra-parliamentary
parties in the coming days, but will not stop meeting with
parliamentary forces, PAP faction’s secretary said.

We will remind that Prosperous Armenia Party met with Heritage,
Orinats Yerkir Party, ARF Dashnaktsutyun and Armenian National Congress
last week.

Earlier, Naira Zohrabyan said in a statement that one of the ways
to implement reforms, which are necessary for Armenia, could be
shifting to parliamentary system of government. “On this way, we attach
importance to passing to a 100-percent proportional election system,”
said the statement.

ANUSH SEDRAKYAN – POSSIBLE CANDIDATE FOR PRESIDENT OF ARMENIA FROM “FREE DEMOCRATS” PARTY

The “Free Democrats” party has been discussing the problem of
nomination of a female at the position of Armenia’s president at the
forthcoming presidential election in February 2013, deputy chairwoman
of the party, Anush Sedrakyan, said at today’s press-conference. She
did not rule out that she will run for president.

For his part, a member of the parliament from the ruling Republican
Party of Armenia, Artak Davtyan, said that the RPA has a positive
view with respect to the possibility of having a female presidential
candidate, as a woman has always been behind all the events important
for Armenia. He also assured that if the RPA did not have its own
candidate for president, in the person of the incumbent President
Serzh Sargsyan, it would undoubtedly support a female candidate
for president.

To note, after the political divorce of the Free Democrats and the
Heritage party, rumors have been circulating in mass media that Free
Democrats will support President Serzh Sargsyan or nominate its own
candidate, Anush Sedrakyan, the first female candidate for 20 years
of Armenia’s independence.

Criticism Of Lighthouse Foundation Unwarranted

CRITICISM OF LIGHTHOUSE FOUNDATION UNWARRANTED

Published: Tuesday November 20, 2012

Dear Armenian Reporter:

I have read the exchange of October 1, 2012 on your ‘letters page’
and am sorry to learn of the unwarranted criticism of the Armenian
Lighthouse Charitable Foundation.

After a recent visit to the Armenian Lighthouse Charitable Foundation’s
facility on the road to Etchmiadzine just outside Yerevan, I
accompanied them in a clothes distribution operation in my region of
Vayots Dzor. I am happy to share some of the photos I took with your
readers. Link to

I have rarely seen such a well run and welcoming institution in
Armenia and I was impressed by Mrs. Seta Ghazarian and her earnest
determination to help the needy in Armenia; Because of what I saw,
I decided to write you to help your readers understand why I totally
support this worthwhile and important charity without reservation.

Seta Ghazarian watches her operation with a transparency and
effectiveness that I would hope all Armenian organizations will try
to emulate.

The main goal of her registered charity is to help young Armenian
women realize their full potential, despite the danger and adversity
they face. The charity has built a modern and beautiful facility in
which they provide a safe and supportive residence for young women and
their families who have fled dangerous living conditions, along with
an on-site ObGyn physician, dental health services with an on-site
dentist, and a feeding program for the poor and elderly of the area.

In addition, the charity supports a local kindergarten, and packages
donations of essential goods which they distribute with care to
the needy throughout Armenia and Artsakh (the photos of one such
distribution activity for which I provided a link, were taken by me
in Vayots Dzor).

I believe that, under the leadership of Mrs. Seta Ghazarian, the
Armenian Lighthouse Charitable Foundation provides a living model for
effective charitable and relief work in Armenia. I hope that readers
in the Diaspora will support her useful work, work that is necessary
and needs to continue and flourish if we want to build a stronger
and more productive Armenia for the future.

I am available to provide further details on this charity and can be
contacted via email: aterjanian (at) yahoo.com
