KAREN NAZARIAN SENDS A LETTER TO UN SECRETARY GENERAL

Permanent Representative of the Republic of Armenia to the UN
Karen Nazarian sent a letter dated 24 February 2012 to the UN
Secretary-General. The letter was of the following content:

“I regret to note that the representative of Azerbaijan has once
again taken up an initiative of circulating misleading and deceptive
information related to the tragic events of 1992 in the settlement
of Khojalu. This delegation has on numerous occasions reacted with
anti-Armenian propaganda and falsifications on behalf of Azerbaijani
authorities relating to those events.

It would be most relevant to recall the appeal of the international
community, not least the European Court of Human Rights and numerous
human rights organizations, to release the Azerbaijani journalists
and human rights activists who had questioned the version of the
Government of Azerbaijan on the Khojalu events. Armenia reiterates
its position, according to which progress in the negotiations for the
peaceful settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh issue depends, inter alia,
on the establishment of tolerance and restraint from hate propaganda.

The Azeri initiative does not bode well for such objectives.”

Permanent Representative of the Republic of Armenia to the UN Karen
Nazarian requested the UN Secretary-General that the present letter
and the attached statement of the Foreign Ministry of the Nagorno
Karabakh Republic, in response to the letter of the representative
of Azerbaijan, be circulated as an official document of the General
Assembly, under agenda items 35 and 39, and of the Security Council.

The similarity between currency symbols of the Armenian dram and
the Turkish lira was of great resonance in the Turkish society, as
a result, Turkish media outlets turned inventor of the Armenian dram
Karen Kamendaryan for comments.

According to Kamendaryan, the Armenian symbol was invented back in
1995, depicting Armenian letter ‘Ô´’ (‘D’) with two lines crossing
over it, Turkish Sabah reports. In the meantime, there is no similarity
between the Armenian and the Turkish symbols, besides the two lines.

As the Turkish one depicts the letter ‘L’ with two lines crossing
over it.

As Armenian News-NEWS.am has earlier informed Central Bank of Turkey
had presented solemnly the new symbol of the Turkish lira, which made
a fuss among press and social networks users.

“If the symbol is turned upside down it resembles Armenian dram,”
Turkish media outlets claimed.

R. Sharoyan: "We Must Present Vazgen Sargsyan’s Heritage To The Comi

R. SHAROYAN: “WE MUST PRESENT VAZGEN SARGSYAN’S HERITAGE TO THE COMING GENERATIONS”

“He was a decisive, friendly and right person, he had sensitive soul”,
“He was strong, smiling and at the same time he was gentle person”.

These are the descriptions which writer Karine Khodikyan and head
of the “Hay art” cultural center Rita Sharoyan presented for Vazgen
Sargsyan during press-conference. The speakers of the pres-conference
were V. Sargsyan’s friends.

“I have realized the strength of his pen when I have read the article
named “There is blood in the stone”. First I thought that he was from
Javakhk and that is why he described it so well. But when I knew that
he had been in Javakhk for only three days then I have realized the
strength of his pen. There is no appropriate article to it till now.

Unfortunately, he created a few. He was not flirting writer he told
that he would tell. He was a sharp publicist and hit just the target.

Whatever he wrote he was principal”, K. Khodikyan reminded.

The writes also reminded that Sparapet had clean and clear eyes and
ringing laugh. “No one else has such laugh. During the war he came
very rare. When he came it was a feast, the work was stopped. He came,
sit and the traces of the war went from him soon we saw our Vazgen.

His laugh was heard from the forth flour to the first floor.”

K. Khodikyan also referred to her interview with V. Sargsyan, which
she held while Sargsyan was the Defense Minister.

Answering to the journalists’ question whether V. Sargsyan had a
beloved woman, Khodikyan answered. “I will answer with the same
respond which Vazgen gave to this question. I will say immediately
that there is no personal life. There are some rumors, but I do not
like such conversations”. Khodikyan was asked whether she didn’t want
to write about V. Sargsyan: “Vazgen is such personality, which needs
too strong pen to write about him. My pen does not let me do it yet.”

Another speaker of the conference, R. Sharoyan said that now we must
present Vazgen Sargsyan’s heritage to the coming generations.

System Analyst Assesses Armenia Like A Drifting Ship

SYSTEM ANALYST ASSESSES ARMENIA LIKE A DRIFTING SHIP

arminfo
Monday, March 5, 23:02

The present authorities of Armenia and retrogressive political system
have turned the country into a drifting ship left to sink or swim, and
the next parliamentary election will worsen the situation even more,
the analyst, a member of the “Sardarapat” movement initiative group,
Garegin Chugaszyan, said during today’s round table held in Yerevan.

He also added that the only way out from the situation is creation
of an alternative power through using of the pre-election and
post-election situation in Armenia. “We have no time to wait for
the ruling system to change as a result of evolution, which will
allegedly happen as a result of the parliamentary and presidential
elections. We don’t refuse the election institute, we simply think
that in the present conditions having the present ruling regime,
no election are able to make radical changing of the situation”, –
he said.

He emphasized that in the present situation the classical politological
approaches, according to which the regime change is taking place
via the elections, have lost their relevance. “We have been living
in the period of the political creative work which supposes leaving
the frames of the standard mentality. The way offered by us – not to
participate in the election and at the same time to create alternative
power structures, fully finds room in the logic of this creative work”,
– the analyst concluded.

Almost 50 Armenians living in Prague have held a protest action in
front of the Azeri Embassy in the Czech Republic on the occasion of
the 24th year of the Armenian pogroms in the Azeri city of Sumgait.

The press service of Armenia’s Foreign Ministry reports that the
protesters carried Armenian and Nagorno-Karabakh flags and posters
condemning the Sumgait massacres and the continuing anti-Armenian
hysteria in Azerbaijan.

The demonstrators demanded that the Azeri authorities punish those
guilty and stop their racial discrimination policy and anti-Armenian
propaganda.

They also distributed leaflets about the Sumgait tragedy and organized
a candle procession in memory of the Sumgait victims.

The Sumgait massacres took place Feb 26-29 1988. The Soviet authorities
did not interfere until Feb 29 evening. It is still unknown how many
people were killed. Witnesses say that the pogroms were coordinated
by Azeri KGB agents. The Sumgait assassins were later proclaimed
national heroes in Azerbaijan.

Genocide Bill Should Be Submitted At Next Legislature – French MP

GENOCIDE BILL SHOULD BE SUBMITTED AT NEXT LEGISLATURE – FRENCH MP

PanARMENIAN.Net
March 5, 2012 – 13:46 AMT

PanARMENIAN.Net – French politician, General Secretary of the Union
for a Popular Movement Jean-Francois Cope stressed the need to wait
for the French parliament’s next term of office to introduce a new
bill criminalizing the Armenian Genocide denial.

French MPs have no opportunity to place a new draft law on parliament’s
agenda, as the parliament temporarily suspends its activity.

The French Constitutional Council on Feb 28 ruled the bill
criminalizing the Armenian Genocide denial adopted earlier by the
Senate of France as unconstitutional. The Council justified it by
the fact that the law “contradicts Article 33 of the Constitution of
France and the freedom of speech”.

On January 23, the French Senate passed the bill with 127 votes for
and 86 against. If signed into law by the President, the bill would
impose a 45,000 euro fine and a year in prison for anyone in France
who denies this crime against humanity committed by the Ottoman Empire.

Turkey reacted furiously when the Senate approved the law. Ankara
halted political and military cooperation with France and was
threatening to cut off economic and cultural ties if the law took
effect.

Iranian Studies Expert: Armenia-Iran Relations Not To Change

IRANIAN STUDIES EXPERT: ARMENIA-IRAN RELATIONS NOT TO CHANGE

Panorama.am
05/03/2012

“Iran’s strategy is determined by the spiritual leader, the president
just carries it out. If the president changes, the rhetoric may also
change but the essence of the policy will not change,” Iranian studies
expert Gohar Iskandaryan told reporters in Yerevan, commenting on
Iran’s internal problems.

Dwelling on the regional developments, the expert noted that military
operations in the territory of Iran are not beneficial to the United
States, either, because the war could create chaos in the entire
region.

Gohar Iskandaryan also expressed her opinion about the possible impact
of the Iranian presidential elections on Armenia-Iran relations.

“I am convinced that whoever is the next president of Iran, relations
between Armenia and Iran are so deep that they will not change,”
said the expert.
