ERDOGAN WILL CONVINCE ALIYEV TO BE SATISFIED WITH ONLY KELBAJAR AND FIZULI: HURRIYET

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan is set to visit Baku later
today to discuss with the Azerbaijani administration the long-awaited
gas deal.

According to the Turkish Daily Hurriyet also on the agenda will be
the issue of the Karabakh settlement with Erdogan to propose that
Armenia return only 2 regions instead of 7 as Azerbaijan insists.

"Prime Minister Erdogan’s visit is essential both in terms of the
agreement reached over the gas price and the Karabakh conflict. The
agenda of Erdogan’s visit includes the latest proposal over the
Karabakh conflict according to which Azerbaijan will open the border
gate with Armenia, if the Armenians pull out of the 2 regions out of
the 7 adjacent to Karabakh," writes Hurriyet.

"Even if the Baku administration stresses in its statement addressed to
the international community that it will not step back from the ‘5+2’
resolution, however, the discussions over the 2 regions continue. It is
being mentioned that those 2 regions are Kelbajar and Fizuli. Ankara
closed the border [with Armenia] in 1993 when Armenia took over
Kelbajar. For that reason the issue of [Armenia’s withdrawal] from
Kelbajar is essential for Ankara-Yerevan relations.

Should that proposal be accepted, Turkey’s expectation over Kelbajar
will fulfill, and the Armenian-Azerbaijani border will open which,
in turn, will facilitate the opening of the [Armenia-Turkey] border
by Ankara," writes the newspaper.

Successful Armenian Relief Society Festival Draws Community Together

Successful Armenian Relief Society Festival Draws Community Together
by Asbarez
Friday, May 14th, 2010

GLENDALE-While the Armenian Relief Society of Western U.S.A.’s 9th
Annual Armenian Festival has now concluded, surely it will be
remembered by its record breaking attendees as a weekend full of
celebration, highlighting the great offerings of Armenian culture and
the anniversary of the now century-old Armenian Relief Society.

Held on May 1 and 2 at the Glendale Civic Auditorium, the festival’s
opening ceremony commenced with the march of Homenetmen Girl Scouts
lead by their flag bearers and accompanied by drum roll. Following
this procession, ARS Saturday School students sang the American and
Armenian national anthems and ARS members sang the ARS anthem,
accompanied by Alfred Mardoyan who directed the choir.

Master of Ceremonies Arshalous Darpinyan introduced the numerous
guests and dignitaries present at the ceremony. In attendance were ARS
Central Executive Board Chairperson Vicky Marashlian and Central
Executive Board Advisor Nova Hindoyan. Guests also included Los
Angeles City Councilmember Paul Krekorian; district representatives
from Senator Carol Liu and Congressman Adam Schiff’s offices; Joylean
Wagner, Vice-President of the Glendale Unified School District Board
of Education; Nayiri Nahabedian, Glendale Unified School District
Board of Education Member; representatives from the Armenian National
Committee, Armenian Youth Federation, Homenetmen, Hamazkayin, and
various other organizations.

During the invocation, Western Prelate Archbishop Moushegh
Mardirossian, offered his blessing to all organizers and participants.

`Through the ARS, generation after generation of Armenian women have
bettered the lives of brothers and sisters through their humanitarian
efforts and social services, and have played a crucial role in the
preservation of our precious heritage with events, such as this
festival,’ said the Prelate.

`You, ARS members have proven yourselves as the worthy heirs of the
founding generation, and we can be certain and confident that with
members as devoted as you, this organization will continue to thrive
for centuries more,’ he added.

Following the invocation, ARS Regional Executive Chairperson Sossie
Poladian conveyed the Regional Executive Board’s message, stating
`…the secret to our success has been dedication, hard work and
devotion towards our humanitarian objectives.’ She also added, `This
festival has been a perfect setting for accomplishing two of our
objectives: to promote the Armenian culture and passing on our
heritage. Our Saturday and After School program students have been
involved in our festival from the beginning, and the students from the
numerous dance studios have joined us to make each year a special
experience for all involved.’

Poladian concluded by thanking the young performers and professional
entertainers, as well as other ARS volunteers for their many hours of
service during the festival. She also presented a plaque to Chief
Financial Officer Tsolak Khatcherian of Karoun Dairies, Inc., which
has sponsored the festival for the last nine years.

Harout Boghossian, District Representative of Senator Carol Liu’s
office, presented a certificate to the ARS on behalf of Senator Liu
and one vendor, Hasmik Kldjian, presented a framed 3-D ARS Centennial
logo.

Once the festivities began, it was apparent that Armenians and
non-Armenians alike were enjoying the numerous attractions. The lower
level of the auditorium was dedicated to featuring a wide array of
traditional Armenian displays. This extensive cultural section offered
spectators the opportunity to enjoy exhibits of regional costumes,
artwork, and demonstrations of how `lavash’ (thin Armenian bread) and
string cheese are made.

Fellow compatriotic unions participated with booths featuring a
Kharpert specialty soup; another featuring tea from a `samovar’ and
`nazoog’ cookies by the Iranian-Armenian community; as well as the
Union of New Julfa’s booth featuring individuals dressed in Charmahal
and New Persia costumes. The lower level also provided the perfect
venue for children to be immersed with games and live entertainment.

The upper level included over twenty five vendors participating in
this year’s festival. Live music by well-known singers, dance
performances by Armenian folk dance groups, and dance lessons kept
festival-goers continually entertained as they mingled over ethnic
food and pastries.

The weekend-long festival’s atmosphere was full of vibrant energy and
spirit as people from communities near and far came together to enjoy
the rich nature of Armenian culture. Indeed, if a great program,
attendance, and a most memorable weekend are to judge, then it is
without question that the 9th Annual Armenian Festival was an absolute
success.

May 13 /PRNewswire-Asia/ — Comba Telecom Systems Holdings Limited
("Comba" or the "Group", HKEx: 2342), a leading wireless solutions
provider, announced the successful completion and handover of a
turnkey wireless solution for the Yerevan Metro rapid transit system
that serves the capital of Armenia, Yerevan. The metro is using an
end-to-end solution based on Comba technology to enable ubiquitous
coverage for mobile phone users within the metro stations and tunnels.

The Yerevan Metro is one of the main transport modes for the residents
of Armenia’s capital city. It began operations in 1981 and currently
consists of a train line of approximately 13km servicing a total of
10 stations in both underground and above ground environments.

In order to supply passengers with ubiquitous wireless coverage in the
network, Comba designed, installed and commissioned a dual-mode GSM
and UMTS wireless solution after operational hours to avoid disruption
to passengers. Working simultaneously with the installation of base
stations for signal servicing, Comba implemented an active Distributed
Antenna System (DAS) for coverage on station platforms, customized
optical fiber repeater systems for seamless coverage and handover in
and out of tunnels. Through the deployment of these systems, Comba
allowed for maximum network flexibility and minimized operating
costs through centralized locations — thus simplifying equipment,
maintenance and upgrade processes.

Mr. Fredrik Dyfverman, Comba EMEA General Manager said, "Through the
deployment of Comba’s solution, passengers on the Yerevan Metro can
now experience uninterrupted mobile phone communications. The supply
of services is a crucial part of Comba’s total solution that included
design, testing, commissioning and optimization of a cost-effective
and robust wireless system." Key Project Highlights — Network design,

Heritage Party Addresses Those Who Avoid Visiting Armenian Genocide

HERITAGE PARTY ADDRESSES THOSE WHO AVOID VISITING ARMENIAN GENOCIDE MEMORIAL

PanARMENIAN.Net
May 13, 2010 – 16:08 AMT 11:08 GMT

On May 13, 2010, Heritage party issued an address to those who avoid
visiting the Armenian Genocide Memorial.

"Heritage Party and its parliamentary group consider the Parliamentary
Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) president Mevlut
Cavusoglu’s decision to not visit the Armenian Genocide Memorial
to be a behavior that is unbecoming of the head of this prestigious
European organization. And during their meeting with Mr. Cavusoglu
today, Heritage’s MPs will inform him about this, in person. We deem
impermissible the fact that PACE’s current president is acting against
the spirit of the 1987, 2000, 2002 and 2005 decisions by the European
Parliament-the directly elected legislative body of the European
Union, which has formally recognized the Armenian genocide-and is
being guided by a whim that is solely characteristic of a nationalist.

This conduct is also a challenge against the universal norms, the
benchmarks of European values, and the aspirations of Turkey which
pretends to enter into the European family," the statement says.

"With such demeanor, Mr. Cavusoglu explicitly confesses that
he does not consider himself as the head of an influential
institution-comprising a multinational European family-that pursues
the implementation of democratic processes and the protection of
human rights, but, rather, as a Turkish official who, presently having
assumed the duties of the PACE president, seems to want to make use
of this institution’s leverage for the benefit of Turkey’s nowadays
leaders and Azerbaijan."

It goes on saying, "In the view of Heritage, Mevlut Cavusoglu, who,
because of the fixation to deny the tragedy of the Armenian people-who
have been subjected to a genocide and have lost their homeland-and
disguising his current official stay in Armenia as that of a working
visit and refusing to stop at Tsitsernakaberd, is one of those Turkish
politicians whose statements and political conduct demonstrate that he
is a modern-day follower of the Kemalist-Bolshevik conspiracy "deal"
of the past.

It is apparent, therefore, as to the objectives Mr. Cavusoglu
is pursuing through his unconcealed steps being taken toward
the new makeup of the PACE subcommittee on the Nagorno Karabakh
Republic affairs. With this statement, Heritage yet again affirms
for this Turkish political figure, and his supporters and probable
"instructors," that the real issue at hand is the de jure international
recognition of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic, which is already
established de facto. And the outstanding matter is the return of
the territories which, defined by Artsakh’s constitution and under
international law, belong to Artsakh and which are under Azerbaijani
occupation to this day. And PACE’s leadership can, and is obligated
to, mediate with the aim of peacefully resolving these questions."

Heritage Party once more called on Armenia’s authorities to officially
recognize independence of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic.

The statement ends, saying, "No Turkish official, nor any other
foreigner who refuse visiting Tsitsernakaberd, can erase, or send
into oblivion, the reality of the Armenian Genocide and the Great
Dispossession of Homeland, and the just cause and the truthful vision
of all Armenians."

Rep. Schiff Launches The Armenian Genocide Congressional Record Camp

REP. SCHIFF LAUNCHES THE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE CONGRESSIONAL RECORD CAMPAIGN
`
American Chronicle

May 11 2010

Congressional DeskMay 11, 2010Calls on survivors and their families
to document stories and memories of the genocide

Washington, DC – Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) launched an effort to parallel
H. Res. 252, the Congressional resolution he introduced to recognize
and commemorate the Armenian Genocide, by calling on survivors of
the genocide carried out by the Ottoman Empire from 1915 to 1923,
as well as their family members and descendants, to submit their
stories and memories for inclusion into the Congressional Record.

Survivors of the genocide and their families from throughout the
country are encouraged to send Congressman Schiff the story of what
happened to their family during the genocide. The Congressman will
then make these accounts a part of the Congressional Record — the
nation’s enduring record of proceedings before Congress.

Please send your family’s story to Mary Hovagimian in the Congressman’s
Pasadena office. She can be reached at [email protected].

"Let us fill the Congressional Record with the personal histories of
those who survived the genocide and their families," Rep. Schiff said.

"While there are still some survivors left, we can use the official
record of the Congress to document the first genocide of the last
century. This can become an important resource for historians, a
vital part of our nation’s archives, and a part of the continuing
effort to educate Members of Congress as we move forward with the
genocide resolution."

While the Armenian Genocide has been recognized by more than 20 nations
including Canada, Italy, Sweden, France, Argentina and Russia, as
well as the European Parliament, it has not been formally recognized
by the U.S. Congress in decades.

Congressman Schiff is the primary sponsor of H. Res. 252, the
Affirmation of the U.S. Record on the Armenian Genocide, which calls
on the President and the U.S. Government to properly recognize the
atrocities that occurred in Armenia beginning in 1915, and which
resulted in 1.5 million deaths, as genocide.

On April 22, Rep. Schiff sent a letter to President Obama, again urging
him to properly characterize the murder of 1.5 million Armenian men,
women and children as "genocide" in his statement marking the April 24
anniversary of the start of the genocide. The President’s statement
fell tragically short, failing to speak plainly of the genocide,
to the great consternation of the survivors and their descendants.

On April 24, Rep. Schiff joined members of the community to commemorate
the Armenian Genocide.

Rep. Schiff is also the co-author of the California State law allowing
family members of Armenian Genocide victims to request payment on the
life-insurance policies of relatives. He represents California´s 29th
Congressional District, which includes the communities of Alhambra,
Altadena, Burbank, East Pasadena, East San Gabriel, Glendale, Monterey
Park, Pasadena, San Gabriel, South Pasadena and Temple City.

International sales of the DVD of Ian Gillan performing with State
Philharmonic Orchestra of Armenia will be launched in September,
Director of Australian "Thompson Music" Company Drew Thompson said,
according to Mediamax.

Over the past 12 years, Thompson Music has been producing CDs and
DVDs for Deep Purple and Ian Gillan.

A part of incomes from DVD sales will be transferred to the fund to
rebuild N6 music school in Gyumri.

"The vision is beautifully shot and the local TV crew did a wonderful
job. We are very excited about the quality of the audio recording too.

Everyone involved was absolutely amazed how wonderful the orchestra
were – it was obvious they loved playing the material and that shows
through in their performance. A very exciting evening was had by all!

For me having worked with Ian now over the past 12 years, this is
a very exciting project as it highlights the great relationship he
has with his audience – I think Ian is very touched by the reception
of the Armenian people and it is evident from the pictures; this DVD
release is something for Ian Gillan and Deep Purple fans worldwide",
Drew Thompson stated.

Mediamax Company was the one to organize Ian Gillan’s charitable
concerts with the State Philharmonic Orchestra of Armenia, which took
place on March 26 and 27, 2010, in Yerevan. The entire proceeds from
the concerts ($45.000) will be directed at rebuilding N6 music school
in Gyumri. "VivaCell-MTS" mobile operator was the general sponsor of
the concerts, and bmi Airline was the official partner.

In 2 weeks, Ian Gillan will again visit Armenia. Deep Purple’s concert
will take place in Sport-Concert Complex after Karen Demirchyan on
May 25. It will be the first performance of the legendary rock band
in the South Caucasus region.
