Armenian community asks the Argentine Government to condemn restrictions on freedom of expression in Turkey

 – The Armenian community of Argentina issued a statementsigned by all the Armenian institutions of the country in which they expressed “their deep concern and rejection of the political persecution that is taking place in Turkey by the regime of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan against opposition leaders and media” and called on the Argentine government to “adhere to international condemnations such as those of the United Nations and the European Union, and to speak firmly against the persecutions and restrictions on freedom of expression of the government of Erdogan to avoid the disastrous consequences that arose after every authoritarian turn in the country, as their most recent history demonstrates.”

“This situation has been aggravated by the failed coup attempt last July, whose details have not yet been fully clarified, and has reached an extreme point last week with the arrest of twelve deputies of the People’s Democratic Party (HDP), two mayors from Diyarbakir and nine journalists from Cumhuriyet (totaling 142 journalists arrested since July),” said the statement.

“Garo Paylan, deputy of Armenian origin in the Turkish parliament representing the HDP, compared the current situation in the country with the arrest of Armenian politicians and intellectuals on April 24, 1915,” added the text.

Saakashvili resigns as governor of Ukraine’s Odessa region

Former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili tendered his resignation as governor of Ukraine’s southern Odessa region on Monday, accusing highly-placed officials in Kiev of obstructing his attempts at reform, Reuters reports.

Saakashvili, who is widely credited with cracking down on graft when he was president of Georgia from 2004-2013, was appointed Odessa governor in May 2015 by Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.

Saakashvili has since repeatedly accused the Kiev leadership of lacking a real commitment to reform.

Vowing to continue to fight corruption which he said went to the very top of Ukraine’s establishment, he told journalists: “I have decided to tender my resignation and start a new stage of the fight. I am not giving up.”

In a clear rebuke of Poroshenko, he said: “In reality, in Odessa region, the President personally supports two clans.”

He said the work of reform-minded public officials had been repeatedly thwarted by higher authorities in Kiev interested in preserving the status quo.

Trial of Hrant Dink murder case continues in Istanbul

Trial of the public officials as part of Dink case continues today. Before the 7th hearing that will be held on November 7, 8, 10 and 11, Friends of Hrant made a statement to the press in front of the court house, reports.

Reminding that the course of the case is changed in accordance with the political developments, Friends of Hrant stated: “We don’t care about the political developments. The murderers of Hrant Dink are not unidentified. Their names and positions are very well known. Their parts in this murder are obvious.”

Friends of Hrant pointed out that former chief of Istanbul Security Directorate Celalettin Cerrah, former chief of Istanbul Police Directorate Intelligence Branch Ahmet İlhan Güler and the former chief of General Security Directorate Intelligence Branch Sabri Uzun will be heard during this round of hearings and asked addressing the public officials who have been saying that they hadn’t seen the reports about the murder: “Will those public officials explain such absurdities? Will the court press them to explain? We will see soon enough.”

Friends of Hrant also mentioned the arrested writers of Cumhuriyet and MPs of HDP: “The operations against Cumhuriyet and HDP weaken our trust in justice even more. That is why we won’t forget who are the murderers and perpetrators. As HDP co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş, who has been arrested a couple days ago, says: Fear may be contagious, but so is courage.”

I would also like to thank my colleagues present here today for carrying out their duties for years at a rather high level and with high quality. Apple launches iPhone 7 and 7 Plus

Apple has officially announced the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. The new iPhone features a design that’s very similar to last year’s iPhone 6S (and the year prior’s iPhone 6), with a rounded aluminum body, according to The Verge.

But what’s entirely new is the phone’s water resistance, which means you can get the iPhone 7 or the larger iPhone 7 Plus wet without worry. Also new is the long-rumored dual camera system, stereo speakers, and a darker black color scheme. And, as expected, the iPhone 7 does not have a headphone jack, rendering countless 3.5mm headphones useless with the device (or requiring the use of an adapter).

The new phone may look very similar to last year’s models, but instead of the matte metal finish we’ve become used to, it has a glossy, mirrored design. The new color is called jet black and is much darker and richer than the space black of years past. Apple is also releasing a standard black model, along with gold, silver, and rose gold.

Apple has redesigned the iconic home button for the iPhone 7, making it force sensitive like the Force Touch trackpads used in recent MacBook laptops. The phone has also gained the Taptic Engine haptic feedback system from the Apple Watch, which provides different vibration feedback for various alerts.
