YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 30, ARMENPRESS. With the statement signed on November 26 in Sochi, Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan reaffirm their commitment to the consistent and unconditional implementation of all the provisions of the 2020 November 9 trilateral statement, Armenian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Vahan Hunanyan said in response to the questions of media outlets relating to the Sochi trilateral statement.

“This relates also to the commitments which have not been implemented by Azerbaijan till now, including point 8th of the November 9 statement relating to the return of prisoners of war, hostages and other persons held. The November 26th Sochi statement once again reaffirms the point of January 11 statement on unblocking all transportation routes and economic communications in the region and again denies the propaganda theses about the “corridor” or corridor logic”, the MFA spokesperson said.

He emphasized that according to the Sochi statement, the sides reached an agreement to take actions to raise the level of stability and security on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, and the priority and key step on this direction must be the implementation of actions aimed at reducing tension.

“We are also convinced that the complete implementation of the provisions of the trilateral statement will contribute to the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict under the mandate of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship”, Vahan Hunanyan said.

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 20, ARMENPRESS. Turkey puts forward new conditions for normalizing relations with Armenia, ARMENPRESS reports Foreign Minister of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan said in an interview with French Le Figaro newspaper, answering the question if Armenia is ready to normalize relations with Turkey.

“We have always stated that we are ready to normalize our relations without preconditions, despite the huge support provided by Turkey to Azerbaijan during the war against Artsakh, both politically and through the supply of weapons, as well as the deployment of thousands of foreign mercenaries.

We have received positive signals from Turkey to reopen the dialogue, but it remains complicated. Ankara puts forward new conditions. Among them is the “corridor” connecting Azerbaijan and Nakhichevan. It cannot be a subject of discussion at all. Countries should allow transit while maintaining their sovereignty over their territory. All communication channels in the region should be reopened”, Mirzoyan said.

Ararat Mirzoyan: Around 1,500 historical-cultural monuments and 19,000 museum pieces endangered in Artsakh

Panorama, Armenia
Nov 20 2021

The historical-cultural monuments of Artsakh are at risk of deliberate destruction by Azerbaijan, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan told an interview with Le Figaro newspaper. Asked about the results of the meeting with Azerbaijani FM Jeyhun Bayramov mediated by the French FM Jean-Yves Le Drian and OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs, Mirzoyan first highlighted the need for resumption of the peace process under the Minsk Group Co-Chairs.

“The final settlement of the conflict is definitely on the agenda. At this stage, we agreed to move forward through small steps – first of all the release of all prisoners and ensuring the access of international organisations for humanitarian missions, including UNESCO to Nagorno-Karabakh. That is necessary for controlling the state of the Armenian historical-cultural heritage, as historical-cultural monuments of Artsakh are at risk of deliberate destruction by Azerbaijan,” Mirzoyan said.

As an example Mirzoyan recalled the strike of the Shushi Cathedral during the war by Azeri forces. “Around 1,500  historical-cultural monuments and 19,000 museum pieces endangered,” said Mirzoyan.

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 17, ARMENPRESS. The Armenian authorities expect that Russia, as a strategic partner, will help resolve the issues pertaining to the situation which was created at the border as a result of Azerbaijan’s actions, the Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia Armen Grigoryan told Kommersant newspaper in an interview when asked what specific assistance Yerevan expects from Moscow as part of the 1997 treaty.

Grigoryan, who is in Moscow for the CIS Secretaries of Security Council meeting, noted that now the Azerbaijani armed forces are located on sovereign Armenian territory. “This is an act of aggression. In 1997 Armenia and Russia agreed to help one another in such cases. This is exactly why we applied to Russia,” he said.

Asked if Armenia expects military or diplomatic assistance, Grigoryan elaborated: “We are in favor of a diplomatic solution to the issue. But if this won’t be possible to do diplomatically, then the issue must be resolved militarily.”

Grigoryan said that in this matter Armenia prioritizes Russia and the CSTO. “But if a solution isn’t found we will start considering other opportunities too,” he said.
