17:10,

YEREVAN, JANUARY 25, ARMENPRESS. Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan has reassured that during the Davos meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev he discussed all the public statements made earlier.

The PM made the remarks when asked at a Moscow news conference whether or not returning Nagorno Karabakh to the negotiations table has been discussed.

“The statements that I have done publicly, certainly, all issues have been discussed during our meeting. Not once have I said that I can represent the Republic of Armenia in these talks, I cannot represent the Republic of Artsakh due to the simple reason that the citizens of Artsakh do not participate in elections in Armenia, meaning they haven’t elected me prime minister, they elect their own president, they have their parliament and government. Due to this reason I cannot negotiate on behalf of Nagorno Karabakh. This is clear for everyone,” Pashinyan said.

Pashinyan added that understandably citizens and journalists are interested to know every detail about what he and Aliyev spoke about. “But in terms of ethics it is inadmissible when they go out and disclose everything they’ve spoken about. But generally you all know what we have talked about, because the conversation proceeded within the framework that complies with my public statements”.

Book: "Armenia: Land of Legend" book unveiled in Indonesia

PanArmenian, Armenia
Jan 16 2019

PanARMENIAN.Net – A photo book titled “Armenia: Land of Legend” at was unveiled in Jakarta, Indonesia on Tuesday, January 15, Antara News Agency reports.

“Geographically, Armenia`s population is indeed small when compared to Indonesia. It also has almost no historical connections. But the real challenge is to explain the wealth of natural beauty and Armenian culture to the Indonesian community extensively,” Director of Antara News Agency Meidyatama Suryodiningrat said here on Tuesday.

Suryodiningrat expressed hope that the photo book could be a source of enlightenment describing the wonders of Armenia, which would trigger the interest of the Indonesian people to better understand the potential of the two countries.

However, the real challenge for introducing the country, which is bordered by Turkey to the west, Georgia to the north, Azerbaijan to the east, and Iran to the south, lies on how the information on the richness of Armenia’s natural beauty and culture can be introduced to the people at large in Indonesia.

With a total population of around three million and a size of Indonesia`s Central Java Province, Armenia, which is a landlocked country in the South Caucasus region of Eurasia, is still absent on the radar of average Indonesians who possess information on the world`s economic super powers.

The Ambassador of Armenia to Indonesia, Dziunik Aghajanian, also hoped that the photo book could become an entry for Indonesian people who did not know Armenia comprehensively.

“Despite the historic presence of Armenian community in Indonesia throughout several centuries, nowadays, for many Indonesians, Armenia is an unknown terrain. I hope this book will be an introduction for those whose inquisitive mind will draw them to this hidden jewel called Armenia, one of the ancient countries, and its people rich in history, culture, and traditions,” the ambassador stated.

The book, the ambassador noted, would attract them to visit this small nation with a warm heart and open mind, renowned for its hospitality, very tasty gastronomic culture, and exceptional creative mind that is depicted in the innumerous monuments dotting the scenic beauty of the land.

70 percent of the book content showcases selected photos, while the remaining presents articles about the richness of the Armenian history, culture, and scenic beauty.

Senate confirms Lynne Tracy as new envoy to Armenia

2019-01-04 12:21:07

Armenia and Azerbaijan will be starting 2019 with two new U.S. ambassadors following the Senate’s January 2nd confirmation of Lynne Tracy and Earle Litzenberger to the postings – a vote taken following sustained Senate Foreign Relations Committee scrutiny of U.S. policy on the Armenian Genocide, Azerbaijan’s regional aggression and domestic crackdowns, and other key priorities, reported the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA).

“Following a year of peaceful political transition and democratic progress in Armenia, the Armenian National Committee of America looks forward to working with Ambassador Tracey in the New Year to upgrade U.S.-Armenia strategic relations,” stated ANCA Executive Director Aram Hamparian.  “We look to our new ambassador in Baku to forcefully challenge Aliyev’s anti-Armenian violence and openly confront his regime’s worsening crackdown on domestic dissent.”

The Senate confirmation vote for Ms. Tracy and Mr. Litzenberger comes after bi-cameral praise for Armenia’s Parliamentary elections held December 9th, and a call by the Congressional Armenian Caucus leadership to Secretary of State Pompeo for the elevation of U.S.-Armenia strategic bilateral ties through the U.S.-Armenia Joint Economic Task Force.

The December 18th Armenian Caucus letter stressed that “support for a comprehensive democratic transition will secure needed progress in the economic realm, where we encourage you to prioritize a long overdue Tax Treaty, Social Security Agreement, expanding duty-free products, Debt-for-Forestation swaps, non-stop LAX to EVN flights, trade missions, and other related initiatives.”

Ms. Tracy’s approval comes in the wake of intense questioning by Senators Bob Menendez (D-NJ) and Ed Markey (D-MA) regarding the U.S. policy of complicity in Turkey’s obstruction of justice for the Armenian Genocide.  Ms. Tracy, while stating that “The Trump Administration and I personally acknowledge the historical facts of what took place at the end of the Ottoman Empire – of the mass killings, the forced deportations and marches that ended 1.5 million lives and a lot of suffering,” stopped short of properly characterizing the crime as genocide.

During the October 4th confirmation hearing, Senator Menendez grilled Mr. Litzenberger about President Aliyev’s “bellicose rhetoric and sporadic outbursts of violence,” securing from the nominee a commitment that he would urge the Azerbaijani government to step back from any threatening behavior that disrupts the line of contact.
