Armenia acting premier: There will be statement in coming days about exposure of high treason

June 4 2021

There will be a message in the coming days about the revelation of a case of high treason. Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this Friday during his meeting in Geghanist village of Armenia’s Ararat Province.

“As far as I have been reported on, this is not about a non-professional military. It is about the commander of one of the volunteer detachments, who, being on the battlefield during the [Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh)] war [last fall], was an agent of the Azerbaijani special services, and informed the adversary about the deployment of our forces in the Hadrut region and other types of spying information. The NSS [(National Security Service)] has already detained him. I know the name, the surname of that person, I know the name of the detachment he represented. This is a specific case of high treason whose guilt has yet to be proven,” he said.

Pashinyan added:” But I want us not to mix the right with the wrong. There were scenes spread on the Internet during the war that I still cannot understand to this day. How can this happen when a whole military unit full of weapons, ammunition, full of storages, and completely abandoned? These are questions we need to get the answers to. The less emotional state we go to it, the better.”

Second President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan today met with the high-ranking leaderships and officers of the Police, the Ministry of Defense and the National Security Service of various years.

This goes to show that representatives of Armenia’s power structures are concerned about the country’s security,” Kocharyan said, adding that he is certain that the police are in a difficult situation since many police officers are compelled to ensure the security of only one person [Nikol Pashinyan].

Nevada Holocaust Education Bill Signed into Law

Nevada’s Governor, Steve Sisolak, signed Assembly Bill 231, strengthening Holocaust education, into law.

Carson City, Nevada – A bill strengthening Holocaust and Genocide education in Nevada, which passed out of the state legislature with unanimous support, was signed into law today by Governor Sisolak.

Assembly bill 231 is a bipartisan piece of legislation sponsored by Assemblywomen Lesley Cohen and Lisa Krasner and supported by Lieutenant Governor Kate Marshall.

The bill will establish an educational committee within the Nevada Department of Education to evaluate curriculum standards, inventory classroom materials, and assess instructor training needs. In addition to education relating to the Holocaust, the bill also addresses other genocides such as the Armenian, Cambodian, Darfur, Guatemalan and Rwandan genocides.

A coalition of organizations including ADL Nevada, Israeli-American Civic Action Network – Nevada, Jewish Nevada, and the Armenian National Committee of America, Western Region, advocated in support of the legislation.

“While the nation faces a rising tide of antisemitism, the unanimous bipartisan support this legislation received is a testament to the fact that Holocaust and genocide education must be a priority for all Nevadans,” said Jolie Brislin, ADL’s Nevada Regional Director. “With education comes empathy, understanding, and dialogue essential for the prevention of future atrocities, and ensuring that ‘Never Again’ means never again for everyone.”

“In signing this bill today, Governor Sisolak and Nevada’s legislators spoke with one voice, united in agreement about the importance of Holocaust education, especially at a time when we are facing a historic rise in antisemitism,” said Dillon Hosier, CEO at the Israeli-American Civic Action Network. “And, we’re proud that Nevadans across the state, from a diverse coalition of community organizations, came together to support this vital legislation.”

“Education about the Holocaust is a central pillar of our community’s Jewish identity, and we hope that through this legislation, we will share our stories, our history, with students across Nevada,” said Stefanie Tuzman, President and CEO at Jewish Nevada. “Teaching our community’s history accurately, with respect to the individual experiences of those who survived the Holocaust, is one of our top priorities, and this bill will help Nevada meet that goal.”

Specifically, Assembly Bill 231 accomplishes the following:

  • Establishes definitions of Holocaust and genocides and sets specific parameters for what genocide is and what quality education around this topic should include.
  • Creates a subcommittee which will report what the Nevada Department of Education and school districts require for teaching the Holocaust and genocides, including materials, training, and curriculum.
  • Appoints members to the subcommittee from nonprofit organizations, the Department of Education, school districts, the Governor’s Advisory Council on Education Relating to the Holocaust, and the Armenian Community, and other communities affected by genocide.

Azerbaijan’s failure to release POWS a source of grave concern, Armenian envoy tells UN

Public Radio of Armenia

Addressing and countering hate speech remain crucial priorities in delivering on the genocide prevention agenda, Armenia’s Permanent Representative to the UN Mher Margaryan said at the UNGA plenary meeting on the Responsibility to Protect and the prevention of genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity.

“Incitement to hatred and hate crimes, denial, justification or glorification of past crimes, along with instances of racial and ethnic profiling constitute the detectable early warning signs, which, if unaddressed, can lead to further violence and atrocities,” he said, reminding that Armenia has welcomed the UN Strategy and Plan of Action on Hate Speech, which, as the Secretary-General has succinctly put it in his foreword, represents “a menace to democratic values, social stability and peace”.

“Today, there is a growing, urgent need to step up collective efforts to fight racism, discrimination and xenophobia, which so often represent the root causes of atrocity crimes. Armenia has consistently raised its voice against the immense sufferings and mass atrocities perpetrated against ethnic and religious minorities. The continuous, systematic human rights violations, crimes on ethnic and religious grounds in the context of situations of humanitarian crisis require stronger engagement of the international community, including the human rights and preventive machinery of the UN system,” Amb. Margaryan said.

He noted that fostering international cooperation for prevention of mass atrocities and the further development of national and international early warning mechanisms are important priorities of Armenia’s engagement within the United Nations.

“Armenia, whose people have undergone through the horrors of Genocide in the early 20th century, will continue to support strong focus on the early action to prevent situations, which can result in crises and atrocity crimes,” Mher Margaryan stated,

“As the main sponsor of the UN General Assembly resolution instituting the International Day of the 9th December as the Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide and of the Prevention of this Crime, Armenia is fully committed to strengthening this important platform, most notably, through thematic events aimed at fostering cooperation for prevention of atrocity crimes and the further development of national and international early warning mechanisms,” he added.

“In our part of the world, the brutal, large-scale violence unleashed amidst the global pandemic in an attempt to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict by force led to the most intense and destructive escalation in the region since 1990s, putting the lives of thousands of civilians and the ancient Armenian Christian heritage under existential threat,” Mr. Margaryan said.

“Time and again, Armenia alerted the international community about the dangerously mounting level of hate speech and racist rhetoric dominating the political discourse in Azerbaijan, which constitutes all elements of incitement to violence against ethnic Armenians and represents a significant indicator of risk of atrocity crimes,” he noted.

“Azerbaijan’s continued failure to release the numerous prisoners of war and civilian hostages who are still being held in captivity, contrary to the international humanitarian law, the ongoing provocations by way of incursions into the territory of Armenia, as well as the wide-spread state-led campaign of dehumanization of Armenians, such as, for example, the recently opened “military trophy park”, which has already been named as “national hatred theme park” by the international media, come to manifest that the genocidal ideology does not merely belong to history.  This is a source of grave concern that needs to be properly identified and acknowledged to prevent further atrocities,” he stressed.

The envoy stressed that Armenia condemns such actions in the strongest terms and views them as an affront to the values, ideals and principles of the United Nations, including the collective commitment to prevent and punish crimes that “deeply shock the conscience of humanity”.

“Armenia remains strongly committed to advancing prevention agenda and shares the view that accountability for atrocity crimes prevention can be strengthened by open reflection and inclusive dialogue, with civil society, free media and academia playing a key role in this regard,” the Ambassador added.
