Armenian Cultural Foundation Delivers Assistance to Fallen and Wounded Soldiers’ Families

The Armenian Cultural Foundation delivered assistance to families of fallen and wounded soldiers, when a delegation visited Armenia earlier this month and toured the country, meeting families and extending the Western United States community’s gratitude for the soldiers’ supreme sacrifice for the Armenian Nation.

In January, the ACF kicked off a campaign to assist residents and families in Artsakh, announcing an initial $100,000 donation to those who have lost their homes and livelihood as a result of Azerbaijan’s aggressive war unleashed last fall.

As was announced then, the donated funds were derived from contributions already made to the ACF by Armenian Revolutionary Federation members in the Western U.S., supporters and organizational benefactors who heeded the ARF Central Committee’s call when military actions ended in Artsakh and the devastating toll on the people of Artsakh, soldiers and their families was mounting.

From April 3 to 9, a delegation comprised of Harut Mekerdichian, Shahen Aghbabian, Garo Eshgian. George Ohanjanian and Joseph Mgrian arrived in Armenia and visited Proshyan, Bertashen, Etchimiadzin, Artashat, Hrazdan, Yerevan and its surrounding areas, and distributed $65,000 to the families of 55 wounded or fallen soldiers who took part in the war as part of the ARF battalion.

The delegation also visited the offices of the “De-Occupation of Hadrut” Organization and transferred $10,000, which will be allocated to the needs of refugee and wounded families from Artsakh’s Hadrut region, as part of an ongoing project.

The delegation also paid a solemn visit to the Yerablur National Military Cemetery and on behalf of our organization in the Western U.S. laid a wreath in memory of martyrs. The same day they also did the same at the Proshyan pantheon.

The ACF announced that as part of this program it has donated $25,000 to the Armenian Educational Foundation to fund the reconstruction of schools in Artsakh.

Armenia’s PM convinced Police to manage to exclude any possibility of election bribe at upcoming snap elections

Aysor, Armenia
April 16 2021

Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan attended today the colleague session dedicated to the Day of Police. Addressing the present, Pashinyan said that soon they have important work to do and this work is snap parliamentary elections.

“I hope and I am convinced that the law enforcement bodies of Armenia, Police will manage to ensure rule and order, legality, the right of the citizens of the Republic of Armenia to elect freely,” he said.

Pashinyan noted that from 2018 during all his contacts with the law enforcement bodies the issue put before them was to ensure the legal pace of elections, ensure all the necessary conditions for free _expression_ of will of the citizens of Armenia, exclude any opportunity of election bribes and illegal influence on the will of the voters.

“I am convinced that we will manage to solve the issue together,” the PM said.

Armenia President: We Armenians created artificial barriers with and were afraid of the Diaspora

News.am, Armenia

I can’t grant the title of People’s Artist of Armenia to an Armenian figure, if he or she is not a citizen of Armenia since that would be absurd. This is what President of Armenia Armen Sarkissian told Armenian reporters in Tbilisi, recalling, for example, the fact that Sofiko Tchiaureli was a People’s Artist of the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic.

“We Armenians need to change our attitude towards Armenia-Diaspora relations. I believe we built artificial barriers between Armenia and the Diaspora and were afraid of the Diaspora for a certain period for some reason, but the Diaspora is our real and most important asset. Of course, it’s clear that there need to be certain restrictions in terms of public service, but we need to be able to engage everyone, not divide people. We won’t get anywhere, if we don’t work together,” he said.

Armenia must work to show the world what disaster the Turkish-Azerbaijani tandem is – Edmon Marukyan

Aysor, Armenia

It is necessary to work and not make statements in Armenian from Armenian chairs which does not change anything, head of Bright Armenia faction Edmon Marukyan said at the NA today, referring to the statements on square opened in Baku dedicated to the Artsakh war.

“I want us to speak and understand – what do we think, we are delivering condemning speeches in our parliament and it is having big impact on Azerbaijan? They will watch and say, we opened a square and a whole county messed up? But what are we doing for such squares not to open. Do your statements voiced today and two months ago coincide? No, they don’t. Where is the statement of Armenian MFA? Do you think you are smashing Aliyev here in Armenian and it has some influence on the world? The world is sitting and following our parliamentary session and asked for synchronic translation to listen to our speeches? Where is the international diplomatic work?” Marukyan stressed.

The deputy also noted that work must be carried out for the world to see with what ugly leadership the South Caucasian region is dealing with, what disaster the Turkish-Azerbaijani tandem is.

‘Silence is complicity’: U.S. House urges Biden to recognize Armenian Genocide

The Armenian Caucus has started collecting signatures on bipartisan U.S. House letter calling on President Joe Biden to join with Congress in clearly and directly recognizing Armenian Genocide in his April 24 statement, the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) reported on Thursday.

Last month, 38 U.S. senators called on President Biden to do the same.

The full text of letter is provided below.

“Dear President Biden:

Later this month, on April 24, the world will mark the 106th anniversary of the first days of the Armenian Genocide, the systematic murder of 1.5 million Armenians by the Ottoman Empire from 1915 to 1923, and the displacement of millions more. Yet for decades, while leaders around the world recognize the first genocide of the 20th Century, the President of the United States has remained silent. We join with the proud Armenian American community and all of those who support truth and justice in asking that you clearly and directly recognize the Armenian Genocide in your April 24 statement.

We know that this is an issue you are well acquainted with from your time in the Senate and as Vice President, including shepherding S.J.Res. 212 (designating April 24, 1990, as a National Day of Remembrance of the 75th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide) through the Judiciary Committee in 1989. We also appreciate that as Vice President you attended the centenary anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in 2015 at the National Cathedral. It was during the centennial that His Holiness Pope Francis at Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica said this about the Armenian Genocide: “concealing or denying evil is like allowing a wound to keep bleeding without bandaging it.”

The historic fact of what occurred a century ago is not in serious dispute. American diplomats of the period documented the mass slaughter of the Armenians, though they had no word for what they were witnessing. It was only decades later that Raphael Lemkin coined the term “genocide”, and did so specifically with the attempted extermination of the Armenian people in mind.

In accurately describing the Genocide this year, you will be joining both the House and Senate which overwhelmingly passed resolutions doing so in 2019. Additionally, the Library of Congress has already taken the important step of cataloging books on the subject under historically accurate Armenian Genocide subject heading.

Mr. President, as you said last year in your April 24 statement, “Silence is complicity.” The shameful silence of the United States Government on the historic fact of the Armenian Genocide has gone on for too long, and it must end. We urge you to follow through on your commitments, and speak the truth.”
