They migrate from "homeland" or "this country"?

They migrate from “homeland” or “this country”?

2013-05-11 00:01:29

As soon as you put your foot abroad and meet an Armenian, you hear an
interesting question, “how can you survive in Armenia?” At first you
are surprised, but then you learn that there are monsters in Armenia,
called “tax”, another- called “Customs”, and also a monster called
“Sashik”. And these monsters in Armenia do not allow people to breath,
that no one can do anything, there is no need of thinking about
starting business, as besides them no one can start his business, and
that at the next minute ‘tax’, ‘customs’ and “Sashik’ monsters will
end.

All this, of course, will be funny, even if there was no trace of
humor in it. This nonsense has become almost axiomatic, which in all
likehood coming from the stories of people, who has left Armenia,
facing life episodes, has gradually turned into a complete threat,
control over minds of people, who are not only outside, but also
inside.

For example, an opinion rooted and spread in Martuni, that “BiBiJi”
medical center opened in Dzoragyugh community Dzoragyugh opened and
closed very quickly, because Sashike came and said, that they shoul
pay him 60% share, and the Armenian from Diaspora, who had opened the
medical center closed it and left. Villagers tell the story to each
other, then their friends, they -their friends. But what actually
happened, whether it is true that anyone, even wealthy from Diaspora,
can come to village “place” and open a medical institution, whether
there should not be state control over that institution.

These are questions, which seems that anyone is neither interested in,
nor needs.

People prefer foreign way after the very moment when “the country”
turns into “this country.” The former “where starts Motherland”
concept has been forgotten forever, replaced “where there is bread,
there is my country.”

We have already talked about the current rate of emigration. Taking
into account that the topic is more than serious and that can have
truly irreparable consequences, we decided to develop it and tried to
get information from RA NA MPs about the situation in our country and
the rates of emigration.

Samvel Aleksanyan (N7 polling station)

– For God’s sake! I have become a star, I was not speaking before, you
show me all day today. Let me not speak today…

Arkady Hambardzumyan (N29 polling station)

-Well, how much they say, as much that fill water into mill.

-Is the situation bad at your polling station?

-Of course not.

-Do you feel that people migrate?

– No, I do not feel.

-And as a deputy, do you do anything to stop this?

-In other words, what should I do?

– I do not know, for example with your business, creating jobs.

-I’m not engaged in business.

– Well, you not a businessman, but as a deputy, at least do you do any
thing to stop this tendency for migration in your district?

-I do not see that migration.

Karen Saribekian (N31 polling station)

-Look yourself, look at it, if there is or not. North is not mine, the
other is my polling station.

-Are there migration, emigrants there? Do not know your district?

– I am aware of.

– Then why do not you present?

– What she says…

Shushan Petrosyan (RPA proportional)

– I respect every single Armanian,Mr. Bagratyan, it’s his opinion, but
when his opinion becomes a constant idea, which he, for instance, will
never mind, will voice any good thing. If any good things were not
done over the years, there would be no country. Be a bit optimistic.
You know, he might actually say the truth, but those people always go
for trading and return.

But six thousand a day…?

Well, it’s an exaggeration. He is an emotional man. Anyway, I’m sure
he says it in form of caring.

– Is it time to do anything, to give people hope…?

Well it’s time to help those, who do something, not to throw stones.
If these steps are constantly eveluated as negative, it means to
inhibit this process. It’s time to set aside everything aside and work
build a country.

`Yuri Vardanian’s appointment was political’

`Yuri Vardanian’s appointment was political’

Friday,
May 10

As a man of principle and a world-famous sportsman, Yuri Vardanian can
make his contribution to the development of sports in Armenia, while
his appointment as minister of sport and youth affairs had not only a
professional aspect, but also a political one. The secretary of HHK
parliamentary faction Hovhannes Sahakian made this statement at the
meeting with reporters today.

He said that a few months ago Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK)
criticized the government program, and now they want to show what work
they are going to do at the department led for a long time by a BHK
representative. `When the sport minister is a member of BHK and he
votes against the government program, we take a step’.

When asked whether any problems may arise in the process of
cooperation of the Ministry of Sport and Armenia’s National Olympic
Committee headed by BHK leader Gagik Tsarukian, the parliamentary
deputy replied he sees no problems here.

String Quartet after Edward Mirzoyan to perform in the frames of the
festival `National Gallery’

15:59, 10 May, 2013

YEREVAN, MAY 10, ARMENPRESS. String Quartet after Edward Mirzoyan
will perform in the frames of the 9th international music festival
`National Gallery’ on May 12. Armenpress informs that the quartet will
perform E. Mirzoyan’s `Topic and Variations’ and Shostakovich’s
`Quartet N 8.’

The idea of creating a string quartet – whose name would be linked
with famous Armenian composer Edward Mirzoyan – from the solo
performers of the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra occurred long ago.
The idea was realized through a close cooperation of members – many
prize winners of international competitions, solo performers of State
Symphony Orchestra `New Russia’ (principle conductor and artistic
director Yuri Bashmet) and Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra (principal
conductor and artistic director Edward Topchyan).

Armenian great composer Edward Mirzoyan was one of the great composers
of the 20th century.

Boston Bombing Suspect Sought Jihad in Russia – Reports

Boston Bombing Suspect Sought Jihad in Russia – Reports

WASHINGTON, May 10 (RIA Novosti) – Suspected Boston Marathon bomber
Tamerlan Tsarnaev traveled to Russia last year with an interest in
taking up jihad and contacting fundamentalist Islamic groups in the
country’s restive North Caucasus region, some of whom viewed his
outreach with suspicion and consternation, US media reported Friday.

Tsarnaev’s cousin, head of a fundamentalist Salafi organization based
in Russia’s mainly Muslim republic of Dagestan, tried to convince the
now-deceased accused bomber not to join local militants’ guerilla
campaign against federal forces during Tsarnaev’s sojourn in the
region during the first half of 2012, The New York Times cited several
young men in the Dagestani town of Kizlyar as saying.

The cousin, Magomed Kartashov, explained to Tsarnaev `at length that
violent methods are not right,’ Zaur Zakaryayev, a member of the
Salafi advocacy group that Kartashov heads, was quoted by the Times as
saying Friday.

The US news magazine Time first reported this week Tsarnaev’s relation
to Kartashov, whose Salafi organization is called the Union of the
Just. Kartashov is currently in police custody and being questioned by
Russian security officials, according to US media.

His lawyer told Time that Kartashov `tried to talk [Tsarnaev] out of
his interest in extremism.’

In Dagestan’s capital, Makhachkala, Tsarnaev met with an alleged
militant named Makhmud Nidal who was on the run from police, offering
to serve as a financial liaison between Nidal’s rebel group and a
US-based organization, The Wall Street Journal cited an official who
had seen a security-services file on Tsarnaev as saying.

Nidal was killed by Russian forces in May 2012, and after another
alleged militant Tsarnaev had been in touch with, a Russian-born
Canadian convert to Islam named William Plotnikov, was killed by
authorities two months later, Tsaranev returned to the United States
without waiting to pick up the new Russian passport he had applied
for, US media have cited officials as saying.

Zakaryayev told the Times that Tsarnaev, who was killed in a police
shootout in Boston on April 19, `already had jihad views’ when he
arrived in Dagestan.

`When he got here he was surprised at the conditions,’ Zakaryayev told
the newspaper. `I think he expected to find a full-fledged war, that
one people was fighting with another.’

The Journal cited congregants of the Salafist mosque as saying that
Tsarnaev’s brashness made some wary of the visitor, fearing he would
attract unwanted attention from federal authorities.

`There are some people who take things too far,’ the newspaper cited
one congregant as saying. `Everyone is being watched.’

US authorities have accused Tamerlan Tsarnaev and his brother,
Dzhokhar, of detonating two pressure-cooker bombs laden with shrapnel
and explosives near the finish line of the April 15 Boston Marathon
that killed three people and wounding more than 260 others.

The brothers, who come from a family of ethnic Chechens, had been
living in living in Massachusetts for most during the past decade
after fleeing violence between militant rebels and federal Russian
forces in the North Caucasus.

Dzhokhar was captured hours after his brother’s death, and is being
held in a prison hospital.

Police in Worcester, Massachusetts, said Thursday that Tamerlan’s body
had beenentombed at an undisclosed location.

Ameria and AACC Honor Women’s Achievements

Ameria and AACC Honor Women’s Achievements

The honorees during the Ameria and AACC Luncheon

BY ANUSH HOVSEPYAN

How often do we get to celebrate being an achiever? The Armenian
American Chamber of Commerce (AACC) does so every year. AACC’s 6th
Annual Women in Excellence Luncheon, co-sponsored by Ameria Group,
brought together 15 powerful Armenian-American women from all aspects
of life and honored them for their extraordinary achievements and
contribution to the Armenian community.

This year’s honorees include names such as Union Bank’s VP Sara Citak
Demir, Telemundo’s Director of National Sales Eliz Ghazarian
Semerjian, Western Diocese Chair Araxi Boyamian, Senator Carol Liu’s
District Director Talin Mangioglu, AGBU MDS Vartouhy
Keshishian-Kojayan and more.

For more than a year now Ameria Group Inc. has been working closely
with AACC, as one of the outstanding Diaspora organizations, that has
kept together the Armenian-American business community for years.
Alissa Asmarian, the Immediate Past Chair of AACC, says the Chamber of
Commerce has been the voice of the Armenian-American businesses and
has helped many businesses in the community achieve their full
potential: `AACC has been going strong for 13 years now; each year
adding new members to the Armenian-American business community and
creating mutually beneficial connections. AACC has gained the respect
of both Armenian and non-Armenian businesses.’

Asmarian also stressed the importance of engaging Armenia-based
businesses: `Even though Armenia is only 21 years old as an
independent republic, we are proud to see how Armenia’s business world
has progressed. Ameria Group, with headquarters in Armenia, is
modeling that very business success possible in Armenia these days. We
are proud to see companies, such as Ameria, expand beyond the borders
of Armenia and establish powerful presence in the United States
working toward building an Investment Bridge between the Diaspora and
Armenia.’

AACC’s founder Armen Janian says, with years of experience at the
Beverly Hills Chamber of Commerce, more than a decade ago had a vision
to create a similar chamber in order to connect the Armenian-American
businesses in benefit of the Armenian community. That is how the
Armenian-American Chamber was born. `I started AACC with the main
purpose to help Armenia. In think AACC’s input in representing
Armenian businesses from Armenia at International Expos is one of
chamber’s major accomplishments. I always say that people in Armenia
and from Armenia are the ones that keep Armenia alive. They are the
ones that create companies such as Ameria Group. They have the
intelligence, the knowledge, are financially well-off, know the local
mentality and yet follow world-class standards. Ameria has been
planting seeds in the diaspora and connecting the diaspora to Armenia
through Ameria’s LA office. Companies like Ameria are the future of
Armenia.’

Ameria Group Inc’s CEO Rafi Manoukian says Ameria has been working
closely with AACC since Ameria Group’s establishment in California.
Manoukian stated that AACC’s mission is very much in line with Ameria
Group Inc’s mission to connect the Diaspora Business Community to
Armenia. `We always attend chamber’s business mixers, informing that
Armenia is a great emerging market with promising business
opportunities, now open to new franchises. Ameria itself is a great
example of business success possible in Armenia; as it has turned $
100,000 initial investment to more than $ 600 million in assets and
has become a leader in Armenia’s financial and advisory services
market.’ Ameria has been a proud member of AACC since February 2012
when it joined the AACC’s 13th Business Awards, as AACC’s new member
and Business Awards co-sponsor.

Ameria Group of Companies is an established financial and advisory
services provider based in Armenia. With more than 500 employees, $
600 million dollars in assets, branches across the country, Ameria is
performing the most aggressive development in the Armenian financial
and advisory market through a range of financial & advisory services.
Ameria Group is a winner of multiple global financial awards. It is
the only financial institution in the South Caucasus region recognized

exceptional growth and expertise. The group is renowned in the region
with Ameria Legal & Management Advisory, Ameriabank and Ameria Asset
Management Company. As an international pan-Armenian advisory group
Ameria has a mission to reach out to Diaspora Armenians worldwide.
Since 2011 Ameria has established a presence in Los Angeles, USA,
through Ameria Group Inc. connecting the American Diaspora to
Armenia’s promising business & investment opportunities. Ameria’s LA
