YEREVAN. – Sexual diseases are diagnosed every year among sixty
percent of Armenia’s prostitutes, Polyclinic Head Gurgen Porsughyan of
the Medical Center for Dermatology and Sexually Transmitted Diseases
stated during a press conference on Saturday.

He noted that, as a result of the checkups conducted at the Center,
2-3 HIV/AIDS cases are reported among prostitutes on a yearly basis.
`Today we register cases of chronic disease,’ he said noting, however,
that sexually transmitted disease-related deaths among prostitutes are
not recorded in Armenia to this day.

Incidentally, now the prostitutes will have to pay for their medical
checkup and treatment at the aforesaid center. `Prostitution is a
business, a source of income for a person who sells her [or his] body.
Why should she [or he] not use some of that money for her [or his]
health? The state is not obligated to examine her [or him]. So, the
new decisions are somewhat correct,’ Porsughyan stated.

Also, the physician is of the opinion that prostitution should not be
legalized in Armenia. `It is inappropriate for our nation; it is an
antisocial phenomenon, albeit the prostitutes are working very
successfully in Armenia,’ he noted.

Gurgen Porsughyan is convinced that if brothels were to be established
in Armenia, no prostitute would go there to work because all of them
either conceal or wish to conceal what they are doing. So,
`legalization will not help.’

As per the physician, it should be made sure that this profession
would not cause health risks. `The primary prevention [from sexually
transmitted diseases] is the use of condoms. Each and every prostitute
[in Armenia] carries condoms, [but] it’s altogether another issue when
the client demands sexual intercourse without a condom,’ Gurgen
Porsughyan added.

Armenian Ambassador Had A Meeting With Israeli President

ARMENIAN AMBASSADOR HAD A MEETING WITH ISRAELI PRESIDENT

16:01, 18 October, 2012

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 18, ARMENPRESS: Israel’s President Shimon Peres
received Armen Melkonyan, Armenian Ambassador Extraordinary and
Plenipotentiary to Israel. Armenian Ambassador jointly with five
Ambassadors handed their credentials to Israeli President, Peres
posted in his Facebook page. As Armenpress reports, the head of the
country wrote:

“The ambassador has an important and crucial role in the diplomatic
relations between countries. For this reason I was happy to welcome
six new ambassadors in my residence, from Cote d’Ivoire, Italy,
Malta, and Armenia as well as from Egypt and Jordan, after two years
without a Jordanian ambassador to Israel. The peace between us saved
the lives of tens of thousands of young people in Jordan, Egypt,
the Middle East and in Israel. The lives of the young people are
the most important concern. I know it’s not simple, I know there are
people who try to frustrate peace and I believe that our governments
will do whatever they can to keep the peace between us deep, sincere,
strong and serious for the sake of your people and for the sake of our
people. I know this is an unfinished job because you, as well as us,
would like to see peace across the Middle East. Feel welcome and at
home in our country. All doors are open to you in order to strengthen
the relationships and increase the cooperation between our countries.

Diplomatic relations between Armenia and Israel were established on
April 4, 1992. During the period of 1993-2007 Armenia was covered
from the Embassy of Israel in Georgia . Since 2007 the residence of
the Embassy moved to Jerusalem. On October 2010 Shmuel Meirom was
appointed as Ambassador of Israel in Armenia. In 1996 Mr. Tsolak
Momjian was appointed as Honorary Consul of Armenia in Jerusalem”.

Should Have Built A Hospital

SHOULD HAVE BUILT A HOSPITAL
Naira Hayrumyan

Story from Lragir.am News:

Published: 14:56:01 – 18/10/2012

The union of compatriots of Nig-Aparan headed by Prosecutor General
Aghvan Hovsepyan is building a huge cross on the road Yerevan-Aparan,
which is perhaps supposed to convince people that Hovsepyan is
a Christian.

Christianity is based on the ideology of kindness and equality. For
centuries, Christian people used to prove their devotion to God by
doing good things, trying to give everyone equal lives. There are
charitable hospitals in many countries built by Christians where
sisters of charity work. Those who have nowhere else to go, who have
no money, can get treatment in those hospitals.

In a country where 38% of the population is poor, the construction
of a huge cross is unforgivable luxury. Christians should not waste
money on a cross when there are a lot of poor people around, when
people live in temporary houses and die because they have no money to
go to the doctor and 54% of children with disabilities are also poor.

Construction of crosses, dancing around a mountain and erecting stone
letters around Aragats is not an expression of goodness but usual
demonstration of perverse manners of those who honor the ~Sgolden
calf~T instead of God. People who suddenly came to a fortune deep down
realize that they seized what belongs to the others not by Christian
rules, and so they try to show that they don~Rt spend money on sinful
acts. Maybe someone is trying to earn pardon.
