suppleant, l’historien Denis Peschanski, devant l’instrumentalisation
de l’histoire dans un debat de politique nationale. Je me limiterai

distinguees.

PAP SPOKESPERSON: BY THROWING DOWN A GAGE TO PROSPEROUS ARMENIA, REPUBLICANS TOSS A CHALLENGE TO HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF ARMENIAN CITIZENS

Vice Speaker of Armenian Parliament Edward Sharmazanov will be severely
criticized by hundreds of thousands of Armenian citizens because of
his unacceptable remarks about the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) and
its Leader Gagik Tsarukyan, Tigran Urikhanyan, the PAP Spokesperson,
told ArmInfo.

He failed to answer the question whether the latest conflict between
the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) and the PAP may cause final
severance of relations between the two parties. “One thing is clear:
by throwing down a gage to Prosperous Armenia, the Republicans toss
a challenge to hundreds of thousands of Armenian citizens”, he said.

To note, the latest conflict between the two parties broke out due
to the PAP Leader Gagik Tsarukyan’s statement in Brussels: “the
anti-corruption fight in Armenia cannot be effective, as corrupt
officials themselves fight corruption in the republic”. In response,
Vice Speaker of the Parliament, Spokesperson of the Republican Party
of Armenia (RPA), Edward Sharmazanov, said that Gagik Tsarukyan’s
statements and speeches are shame and mummery. “However, the first blow
is just at the PAP and its leader, as not everything is justified and
there are cases, which one should keep silent about. We do not tell
that many European deputies think that the PAP is an artificial party,
do we? The deputies the PAP leader met during his visit to Brussels,
think that his international political knowledge is weak. We do not
tell either that in Europe they think that Tsarukyan reached success
in the policy thanks to populism. We do not tell that for this reason,
taking into consideration this fact, our European counterparts refused
to meet Tsarukyan, or that the PAP organized an emotional performance
in which certain “Armenian guys” took part”, said Sharmazanov.

In the meantime, Sharmazanov advises not to consider his statement
through the prism of the forthcoming presidential elections. He
abstained from comments on whether Tsarukyan’s statement is a message
demonstrating that the PAP has finally burnt the bridges with the
ruling RPA and will not support the ruling party’s candidate at the
upcoming elections.

Armenia Is An Open-Air Archeological Museum, Researcher Says

ARMENIA IS AN OPEN-AIR ARCHEOLOGICAL MUSEUM, RESEARCHER SAYS

Research assistant at the Institute of Archaeology & Ethnography of
the Armenian National Academy of Sciences Hayk Melik Adamyan suggests
creating a Red Book of Armenian Natural Monuments.

Hayk Melik Adamyan has been asked on many occasions whether Armenia
has anything but churches. This speaks for the fact that Armenian is
not properly presented in tourism guides.

It’s only the historic monuments presented in the guides, while there
is no reference to the country from the archeological point of view,
the researcher told reporters today.

According to the archeologist, Armenia is also an archeological museum
in the open air, but it is not well advertised. Meanwhile, Armenia
could compete with Ukraine with the variety and multiplicity of natural
monuments, although the latter occupies a territory of 600,000 sq km,
while Armenia’s territory is just 45,000 sq km together with Artsakh.

Hayk Melik-Adamyan recalls Garni’s “Stone symphony,” which is not
the only one in Armenia. There are similar basalt pillars in Tavush
and Lori marzes aged 100-150 mln years.

The famous “Pnjrik” tree in Artsakh’s Skhtorashen village is
2,000-years-old. It is included in the ten lonely standing trees in
the world, but is never spoken about, Melik Adamyan said.

To solve the issue the archeologist suggests creating a Red Book of
Armenian Natural Monuments.

Baku. Ramil Mammadli – APA. “The OSCE Minsk Group must find a solution
to the Nagorno Karabakh conflict as soon as possible. It is a part of
the duties and authorities of the organization”, Turkish ambassador
to Azerbaijan Ismayil Alper Coskun told journalists, APA reports.

He said that the main reason of the incidents on the contact line of
the troops was the continuation of aggression policy by Armenia.

The ambassador underlined the importance of the soonest settlement of
the Nagorno Karabakh conflict: “Turkey supports the activity of the
OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs. However, they have not achieved serious
progress for more than 20 years. The announcement of ceasefire between
Azerbaijan and Armenia must not be understood as the settlement of
the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. The world community must know that
currently, a part of Azerbaijani territories is still under the
occupation of Armenia. There are also relevant resolutions adopted
by the UN Security Council on this conflict.”

The ambassador said that Armenians’ intention to open Khojaly airport
aimed to distract attention: “Khojaly airport and the area it is
situated in, belong to Azerbaijan. No country can carry out activities
here without the permission of Azerbaijan. By opening Khojaly airport
Armenia wants to distract the world’s attention from its occupation
policy. We hope that this conflict will be solved peacefully soon. If
it is not solved peacefully, Azerbaijan has great potential to liberate
its territories from the occupation.”

Book: Of Undying Human Spirit, Hope

OF UNDYING HUMAN SPIRIT, HOPE

New Indian Express
December 4, 2012 Tuesday
India

BANGALORE, Dec. 4 — War is nothing but a continuation of politics
with the admixture of other means,” one of the great writers of
realpolitik Karl Von Clausewitz once said.

Not many in the present day generation know about the blood-tainted
history of Armenian genocide, Ottoman government’s systematic
extermination of its minority Armenians, Assyrians and Greeks in the
early decades of the 19th century. The never-ending cycle of conflicts
and tumultuous events in the Middle East had ruined or destroyed the
lives of millions of people. The human sufferings followed by these
clashes were immeasurable and it has become fodder for a few books in
the past. The latest among is Gray Wolves and White Doves by debutant
novelist John D Balian.

Gray Wolves. is a less-known tale of the history of Armenian Christians
who try to defend their identity in a very complex world. A young boy’s
search for truth and his journey from a remote village at Anatolia in
Diyarbekir, Turkey, to a grimy dark basement in Istanbul, a seminary
in the Armenian quarter of Jeruselam, the holy city through Bavaria
and Sweden and finally to Paris and the United States where he starts
a new life.

The author’s coming-of-age story also deals with the minefield
of politics in the Middle East, the cycle of retaliatory violence
that threatens to extinguish a life, a family, and even an entire
race at the altar of political exigency. Rooted in the author’s own
experiences, the book is a powerful testimony to the triumphing human
spirit, despite all odds.

The story, in the early chapters, throws light on the ancient rituals
and generation-old traditions of an Armenian family living in a rural
setting. Destiny can be cruel sometimes; the harvest season turns
gory for them; children lost their mother when they try to cross the
Syrian border. The family barely recovers from the tragic loss, but
finally unconquerable human spirit has the last laugh, no matter how
difficult the circumstances. The protagonist, Jonah is a family man;
the fate forces him to shift to the holy city of Jerusalem with his
brothers for seminary studies. Scattering of the family worries Jonah,
but he didn’t lose hope for a better tomorrow and the hope comes in
the form of sponsor, a generous US woman. With an engaging storyline,
the book hints that persecution of minorities anywhere in the world
was carried out in the name of ‘justice’. The book interweaves the
complexity of the politics and common human dilemma. Gray Wolves and
White Doves may remind the reader many real-life tales of oppression
and onslaught and the ongoing Palestinian -Israel conflict, Arab
Spring and the civil war in Syria. An interesting read for those who
like fiction woven around history. Published by HT Syndication with

ALMA TO DISPLAY DR. JACK KEVORKIAN’S PAINTING “1915 GENOCIDE 1945” IN APRIL

00:20 06.12.2012

The Armenian Library and Museum of America has a rich collection of
illuminated manuscripts and a catalog of portrait photographs of some
of the 20th century’s leading figures, but the grisly paintings by Dr.

Death himself, assisted-suicide advocate Dr. Jack Kevorkian, continue
to be a draw, boston.com writes.

After a year of legal wrangling with the Kevorkian estate, the museum
has managed to keep four of the 17 paintings by the late pathologist
it had been holding. Under a settlement that was announced in October,
the Kevorkian estate obtained the remainder of the paintings, and is
expected to offer the pieces for sale at art galleries.

The museum plans to display its Kevorkian paintings at some point,
but exactly when hasn’t been determined. At least one of them, “1915
Genocide 1945,” will be shown in April, when the museum commemorates
the Armenian genocide, said Haig Der Manuelian, chairman of its board
of trustees.

That painting, which links the killing of 1.5 million Armenians by
the Ottoman Turkish empire during and after World War I, and the 6
million Jews killed by Nazi Germany three decades later, was the most
important piece for the museum to hold onto, and why the organization
was willing to engage in its first legal battle, Der Manuelian said.

“The reason why we were adamant about it was the one painting,”
he said. It resonates with the museum’s goal of teaching the public
about the Armenian genocide, he added. “As far as I was concerned,
a lot of the paintings were of no relevance to our mission.”

The painting shows the bloodied head of a woman held by two arms. On
one sleeve is a Nazi uniform; the other is dressed in Ottoman Turkish
garb. Kevorkian, the son of Armenian genocide survivors, is said to
have used a mixture of human blood and paint in the piece.

The museum will also keep “The Gourmet,” about the meaning of war,
“The Double Cross of Justice,” about the broken judicial system,
and “Fa, la, la, la, la,” which reflects on the commercialization of
Christmas. The messages of all these the paintings are dark, and the
images feature decapitated heads or skeletal bodies.

Jorjorian Establishes 2nd Aef Endowment Fund

JORJORIAN ESTABLISHES 2ND AEF ENDOWMENT FUND

George Jorjorian

GLENDALE-The Armenian Educational Foundation announced the
establishment of the Jorjorian Armenia Scholarship Endowment Fund
through the generous donation of $150,000 by George Jorjorian of
Chatsworth, California.

The Endowment Fund will be used to provide full 4-year university
scholarships for 12 students graduating from high schools in the
cities of Alaverdi and Spitak of the Lori region of Armenia, and
Stepanakert in Artsakh. Jorjorian established the Endowment Fund in
the name of his two daughters, Camille and Christine, both of whom
are very supportive of their father’s philanthropic projects.

In 1994, Jorjorian established his first Endowment Fund at AEF to
provide university scholarships to 3 students graduating from the
Haratch K. Goulbenkian secondary school in Anjar, Lebanon.

Jorjorian, a lifelong educator, retired from the Los Angeles Unified
School District (LAUSD) and was also an adjunct professor at Pierce
College in Woodland Hills, California. Prior to his retirement from
the LAUSD, Mr. Jorjorian went to Lebanon for a year on sabbatical and
volunteered at the Haratch K. Goulbenkian secondary school in Anjar.

While there, he realized how much assistance the community and the
school needed.

Having heard about the work of AEF, he approached AEF and donated
$85,000 to establish an Endowment Fund to provide university
scholarships to three students graduating from the Goulbenkian school.

AEF has been administering Mr. Jorjorian’s endowment for the past 18
years by providing three $2,000 scholarships each year, now totaling
$98,000, to the Goulbenkian school students. The Endowment Fund is
expected to continue in perpetuity. At the same time, to help the
school directly, Jorjorian committed and has been donating $2,000
each year to AEF to be forwarded to the Goulbenkian school.

Following his retirement from the LAUSD, Jorjorian travelled to Armenia
and Artsakh each year, lived in the villages, and became acquainted
with the families and the educational needs of the high school
graduating students in the area. Then, at the end of his stay, he
would provide tuition money to those village students going to college
who could not afford the tuition. He continued this philanthropic
work until last summer when he could no longer physically continue,
at the age of 87.

The Armenian Educational Foundation expresses its gratitude and
appreciation to Jorjorian for his generous donations and commits to
continue his mission and his wish to provide university scholarships
to twelve graduating students from Stepanakert, Alaverdi and Spitak
high schools through his new Endowment Fund.

The Armenian Educational Foundation was established in 1950 to provide
support to Armenian students and Armenian educational institutions.

Over the past twenty years, AEF has renovated over 180 schools in
Armenia, Artsakh and Javakhk and has provided aid to thousands of
students. In the past five years, AEF has been providing full tuition
4-year scholarships to students attending public universities
in Armenia and Artsakh. With the inclusion of Mr. Jorjorian’s
scholarships, AEF will have 50 scholarships each year and intends to
significantly grow this worthy endeavor in the coming years.

For more information, please visit AEF’s website at
or contact the AEF’s office at (818) 242-4154.
