More Azeri Mercenaries Killed In Syria

MORE AZERI MERCENARIES KILLED IN SYRIA

Hundreds of Azeri mercenaries are fighting among their ranks

BAKU–Websites managed by Islamist rebel forces in Syria, responsible
for attacks against the country’s Christian minorities, reported
Wednesday that three more Azeri mercenaries fighting in its ranks
have been killed.

The Azeri press, quoting the rebel sources reported that the three
Azeris fought alongside rebels of the Al-Nusra front and were allegedly
killed by pro-government forces.

Interestingly, Azeri news sources are not shying away from reporting
that hundreds of their native mercenaries are currently fighting
with Islamist rebels–the very factions reigning terror of Syria’s
Christian communities, among them the Armenians.

Recently, Azeri media reported about a number of deaths of Azerbaijani
mercenaries in Syria. In early April, the Turkish sites have reported
that about 30 terrorists from Azerbaijan have already been killed in
Syria. According to the Azerbaijani political scientist Arif Yunus,
more than 300 Islamists from Azerbaijan are fighting in Syria,
Afghanistan and Pakistan. Azerbaijani mercenaries have even released
an online video-recording calling for “jihad.”

The relationship between international terrorist groups and Azerbaijan
originated in the early 1990s. During that time, the Azerbaijani army,
having failed in the aggression against the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic,
retreated with losses. Trying to save the situation, the Azerbaijani
leadership, headed by Heydar Aliyev, called on international
terrorist organizations and radical groups from Afghanistan (Taliban,
Hezb-e Islami, and others), Turkey (Grey Wolves), Chechnya (Chechen
Mujahedeen) and other regions to join the fight against the Armenians
of Karabakh.

Despite the involvement of thousands of foreign mercenaries and
terrorists in the Azerbaijani army during the war, the Azerbaijani
aggression against Nagorno-Karabakh Republic failed, and the Baku
authorities were forced to sign an armistice with Karabakh and
Armenia. However, international terrorists forged ties in Azerbaijan
during the war, and used them in the future. Recruitment was conducted
among Azerbaijanis, who then were sent to Afghanistan and the North
Caucasus, where they participated in battles against NATO forces and
the Russian government.

In recent years, citizens from Azerbaijan have been actively involved
in terrorist and extremist activities in Russia, Afghanistan and
Syria. In Azerbaijan, the citizens are brought to criminal liability
for participating in “illegal armed groups” in Afghanistan, sentenced
to minor terms of imprisonment.

Love On A Bike: One Cyclist’s Journey Of Romance And Adventure

LOVE ON A BIKE: ONE CYCLIST’S JOURNEY OF ROMANCE AND ADVENTURE

New film follows Tom Allen’s bike ride of four years and three
continents that brought him together with his future wife Follow Bike
Blog by emailBETA

Tom Seymour Wednesday 5 February 2014 12.03 GMT theguardian.com

Still from Janapar, Love on a Bike

Tom Allen was stuck at home and feeling trapped, so he went for a bike
ride. He ended up camping on a deserted beach in Yemen, surrounded
by crabs and dreaming of an Iranian girl.

In 2006, Allen cycled from his sleepy Northamptonshire village with
a tent, a camera and a budget of EURO 5 a day. Three years, three
continents and 32 countries had passed before he cycled through the
English countryside again, returning with an Iranian woman called
Tenny for company.

“I committed myself to cycling round the world without a map,” Allen
says. “I wasn’t interested in cycling, I had never toured on a bike
before, or travelled far. I didn’t know what I was doing, I didn’t
know if it was possible. I was a beginner in every sense of the word.”

Allen was 23, a recent graduate working as a freelance web developer.

“I couldn’t have been more miserable,” he says. He felt scared at the
prospect of sitting in front of a monitor every day. “I didn’t feel
in control of my own decisions. I had a horrible feeling that other
influences were steering my life, that the world had more to offer. I
wanted to be completely independent, and I wanted the self-propelled
nature of being on a bike.”

Allen started out with two friends, but they gave up within weeks. So
he continued “a lonely, solitary journey”, cycling across central and
eastern Europe, central Asia, the Middle East and the north-eastern
spine of Africa; Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, Djibouti. Along the way,
he haphazardly shot 300 hours of video that show him running out
of food and eating a mixture of spaghetti, peanut butter and jam,
choosing a road forked between Damascus and Baghdad, contracting
malaria in Sudan and realising he had met his future wife.

Janapar: Official Trailer from Janapar Film on Vimeo.

Janapar: Love on a bike by Tom Allen – official trailer

With the help of BBC director James Newton, the footage Allen shot on
the road has been shaped into a feature film titled Janapar, Love on a
Bike (janapar being the Armenian word for journey) whichhas recently
been released online, while Allen has crowdsourced the funds needed
to self-publish a book of his experiences.

“I grew to love being on the road, because you don’t think about the
big picture,” he says. “Almost every journey is about getting from
one place to another, but travelling by bike is purely about what
happens along the way. You live day-to-day, you don’t need to worry
about money, you just think about what to eat and where to sleep. You
do whatever feels right at the time, and you realise the world is a
lot less threatening than it might appear.”

That’s not to say the journey was easy. The lowest moment, Allen says,
was arriving in Sudan and realising the next town lay across 1,000km
of desert – and he just had a compass for guidance.

“I had a limited amount of water, a limited amount of food, not much
shelter and a sandy track for a road. I’ve never felt so vulnerable
or helpless, before or since.”

At this point, Allen was thinking of Tenny, a 28-year-old Iranian
graphic designer he fell for in Armenia. He lived with her for eight
months, but was getting itchy feet. So he convinced her to cycle
on with him, even though Tenny hadn’t cycled since she was a child
and had never travelled beyond her native Iran and adopted home of
Armenia. Their first trip, they decided, would be to Tehran, the
capital of Iran, to meet her parents.

“It was extremely foolhardy for us to even try it,” Allen says. “She
agreed to cycle with me out of passion rather than pragmatism.”

“When you meet someone and you realise he’s the person you’ve always
been waiting for, it allows you to make very big decisions,” Tenny
says. “But cycling was completely new to me, and the whole idea was
pretty confusing. He convinced me that cycling to Iran would be a
great idea, and I remember thinking it was something I can do to be
with him. But by about the middle of the first day, I wanted to go
home to Armenia.”

When they reached Tehran, her parents went berserk.

“We’ve had an evening of shouting, crying and being told in no
uncertain terms there is no way on this planet we are going to continue
the journey,” Allen says in the film. “Everything I hoped for us has
just been mercilessly blown away.”

“My parents were very upset with us,” Tenny says. “They were upset
we did it in secret, and they were very worried about me. Part of the
challenge was knowing I was doing it without my family’s support. But
I felt I had to make a decision for myself.”

Tenny’s parents grew used to the idea. Tom and Tenny got married in
Armenia and cycled back to the UK. They now live between Norfolk and
Armenia and work as professional “adventure cyclists”, still spending
months on the road. Yet Tom is more settled now, more willing to spend
eight hours a day in front of a computer. “I know what I’m doing now,”
he says. But, reflecting now, what did he learn from the experience
of naively doing it in 2006?

“A journey like that can go on and on and on. It can feel there’s no
end to it. I packed in everything to do it, so it could be scary,”
he says. “But you’d be surprised how quickly you realise there isn’t
supposed to be an end – just the present moment, just the next bend
in the road – that there’s always a road that hasn’t yet been taken,
but that’s no reason not to take it. I’d encourage anyone to try it.”

TURKEY BOYCOTTS TURKISH NOVELIST AND HER BOOKS AGAINST ARMENIAN GENOCIDE

19:43, 5 February, 2014

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 5, ARMENPRESS: Turkish novelist AyÅ~_e Kulin’s
statement about the Armenian Genocide caused great anger among those
Turkish intellectuals whose ideas long ago came out of the frameworks
of the official viewpoint on the history of Turkey.

“Armenpress” reports that as a sign of protest against AyÅ~_e Kulin
website holds collection of electronic signatures. The
organizers of the signature urge to boycott the Turkish author and
not to read her books any longer.

“It is very sad that ahead of the100th anniversary of the Armenian
Genocide the author says such irreverent words. At the course of
a conversation with the journalists AyÅ~_e Kulin said very calmly:
“We did not kill the Armenians without any reason”. She underscored
as if they had right to kill a nation… We do not expect apology or
something like that from, we strongly condemn AyÅ~_e Kulin and boycott
her books urging all the confidant people not to read her books too,”
the call says. You can participate in the collection of signature by

Finance Ministry Of Armenia Does Not Give A Hoot About Constitutiona

FINANCE MINISTRY OF ARMENIA DOES NOT GIVE A HOOT ABOUT CONSTITUTIONAL COURT’S DECISION

by Alexandr Avanesov

Wednesday, February 5, 13:46

Finance Ministry of Armenia has disseminated a message in response
to the open letter by the public interest group “I am Against!”

Particularly, the ministry recommends making accumulative pension
payments and choosing a pension fund and a manager for it despite
anything.

“In compliance with Article 8.1 of the Law on Accumulative Pension of
the Republic of Armenia, employers are responsible for calculation
and transfer of accumulative payments. In addition, under Article
37 of the same law, the citizens that fall under the mandatory
accumulative pension system are to select a pension fund in line
with the requirements of Article 38 until the Constitutional Court
determines the constitutionality of Articles 5, 7, 8, 37, 38, 45, 49
and 86 of the Law on Accumulative Pension.” The ministry claims that
the accumulative payments must be transferred to a special account
at the Finance Ministry 9 0000 804 70 20.

Meanwhile, the Constitutional Court of Armenia suspended some
provisions of the above law on 24 January 2014 until it considers
the constitutionality of the above eight articles on Mar 28 2014.

Decisions of the Constitutional Court cannot be disputed. The Court
suspended Article 76 stipulating responsibility for refusing to
make compulsory pension contributions or failing to do in time and
Paragraph 3 of Article 86 saying that the employees covered by the
system should choose a pension fund. The claim against eight articles
of the law has been laid by four opposition parliamentary groups:
Armenian National Congress, ARFD, Heritage and Prosperous Armenia.

To recall, the voluntary accumulative pension system was introduced in
Armenia on Jan 1 2011. The system will become compulsory starting Jan
1 2014. According to the bill, the minimal pension in the country will
be equal to the minimum wage, while the basic pension will total 150%
of the minimum wage. The compulsory accumulative pension system will
apply to the citizens born after Jan 1 1974 (the citizens below 40).

Starting Jan 1 2014, 5% of their salaries will be transferred to
their personal accumulative accounts. The government will transfer
a similar amount (but no more than 25,000 drams).

Video Proves German Ex-Envoy’s Remarks On Yacht-Clubbing Observers I

VIDEO PROVES GERMAN EX-ENVOY’S REMARKS ON YACHT-CLUBBING OBSERVERS IN BAKU (VIDEO)

February 5, 2014 – 16:00 AMT

PanARMENIAN.Net – Stepanakert hosted an international conference
Artsakh Liberation Struggle: From Gulistan Till Our Days October 4-5.

The event, held in the framework of the 25th anniversary of Karabakh
national liberation struggle, welcomed acclaimed scientists from
Arsakh, Armenia, Russia, France, Germany, Great Britain, Austria,
Belgium, Greece, Cyprus, Lebanon, among other countries.

Former German ambassador to Armenia, Hans-Jochen Schmidt, addressed
the conference, reminding that that in 1920s Armenians made up 90%
of the population of the Nagorno Karabakh; however, in the 80s, it was
reduced to 72% as a result of Soviet leadership’s demographic policies.

The German diplomat also emphasized that Baku uses the refugees as a
tool of pressure, while preventing their integration into the society.

Dwelling on current conflicts, the diplomat noted that those in
Abkhazia, South Ossetia and Transdniestria are not similar. “To cope
with the conflicts, EU developed unified policies of the Eastern
Partnership and Associated Membership, trying to use the same approach
in dealing with different issues.” As he further noted, Azerbaijan’s
consul general in Stuttgart invited Germans to participate in the
monitoring mission during the presidential elections; however, some
observers spent most of their time at a Baku yacht club.

Half a year later, on February 2, Vestnik Kavkaza published an
interview with Otto Hauser, German ex-Secretary of State, currently
Honorary Consul of Azerbaijan in Stuttgart, the very same person
mentioned by Schmidt.

“A few months ago, PanARMENIAN.Net referred to you as well. The agency,
quoting German ex-Ambassador Hans Johan Schmidt, says that you invited
German observers for last year’s presidential elections in Azerbaijan
and they spent most of their time in the country having fun,” the
news source noted during the interview.

Says Houser: “I was horrified reading that article. I am not acquainted
with the German ex-ambassador to Yerevan. This is why such reports
are absolute fiction and lies. I demanded that ex-Ambassador Schmidt
write a note taking his words back. In his response, he assured me
that those words were made up and he had never said them.

The ex-ambassador expressed regret over the publication. Which makes
it clear that there are people and propagandists who feel no shame
about obvious lies. It is sad to see what childish methods they use.”

Some diplomats have a steady habit of going back on their words.

There’s no telling whether this is a case in the interview, or Azeri
journalists, as usual, “added” to the interviewee’s remarks. Luckily,
in the 21th century, events get recorded and archived.

PanARMENIAN.Net has a video of the Schmidt’s address, where everyone
with a little command of English can hear what he has to say about
the consul and yachts, with no further comments necessary.

Pinar Selek : Martine Billard et Jean-Luc Melenchon ecrivent a
Francois Hollande

NAIRA ZOHRABYAN: “WE WILL NOT LET THE GOVERNMENT LEAD THE PEOPLE BY NOSE”

by Ashot Safaryan

ARMINFO
Tuesday, February 4, 21:56

Government of Armenia has been leading the people by nose for many
years assuring them that the gas price will not be increased, says
Naira Zohrabyan, Secretary of Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) Faction
in the Parliament.

The National Assembly is currently studying the motion of 4 factions –
Armenian National Congress, ARFD, PAP and Heritage – for creation of
an ad hoc committee to study the gas agreements with Russia.

“We want to know how that 300 million dollars debt was accumulated amid
assurances that the gas tariff has not changed. What has determined
the current margin and what made the government sign such a one- sided
agreement that makes all the future governments hostages,” the MP said.

According to her, the ad hoc committee will unveil the government’s
policy of robbing its own citizens. “The Government has concealed
the gas price from the people because of elections,” Zohrabyan said.
