PanARMENIAN.Net – Armenian grandmaster Hrant Melkumian suffered his
first defeat by Israel’s Evgeny Postny in the 7th round of The 42nd
International Chess Tournament Bosna 2012.

Despite this, the player keeps lead with 5,5 points. In the 8th round
he will face off against Russia’s Michael Antipov, who comes 4th with
5 points.

Last year Armenian chess player took the second place, with Georgia’s
Baadur Jobava becoming tournament winner.

YEREVAN. – Zhamanak daily interviewed Armenia’s former PM and
opposition bloc Armenian National Congress member Hrant Bagratyan.

Below is an excerpt from the interview.

How do you picture the image of a PM?

The PM’s office is special. The PM must be a serious professional in
numerous matters. There are many professional people today.

Nonetheless, those RPA [i.e., Republican Party of Armenia] members
became MPs [in the May 6 National Assembly elections] by election
fraud, by mobilizing the ‘notables’ and the criminal world, by
distributing money. They must find a professional person, but I do
not know how they would act.

There is another problem. They will never allow someone who is cleverer
than them to become PM. This problem always exists. That is why we
say forged elections do not guarantee the forming of a good government.

Will [incumbent PM] Tigran Sargsyan, together with his team, continue
to work and head the executive body?

I do not know.

IF PROSPEROUS ARMENIA SIGNS A COALITION AGREEMENT WITH RPA, VARDAN OSKANYAN WILL LEAVE THE PARTY

If Prosperous Armenia signs a coalition agreement with the ruling
Republican Party, the ex-foreign minister of Armenia Vardan Oskanyan
will leave the party. Such statement came from Vardan Oskanyan at
the session of the Joint Inter-Party Headquarters on May 11.

Oskanyan said he is against signing any coalition agreement and will
fight against it. The politician said he is not going to cooperate
with the Republican and assume responsibility for another ‘virtual
coalition.’ At the same time, Oskanyan said the PAP has not yet
received any suggestion to make a coalition with the RPA. If there
is such suggestion, the majority of the party will adopt the final
decision and Gagik Tsarukyan and Oskayan are to reckon with it,
he said.

Nevertheless, as regards the rumors about his intention to run for
president in 2013, Oskanyan said: I neither reject nor confirm those
rumors. It is just untimely to speak of that. I am thinking so far.”

Oskanyan said that PAP’s oppositional views are not false and the
party is trying to liquidate the political monopoly of the Republican
Party. As regards the voter bribery by Prosperous Armenia, Oskanyan
said that all the parties must be punished for irregularities and
falsifications, but before punishing them, it is necessary to prove
their guilt.

In 2011 RPA, Prosperous Armenia and Orinats Yerkir signed a new
coalitional memorandum, thereby supporting the incumbent president’s
candidacy at the forthcoming presidential election in 2013. However, at
the parliamentary elections of May 6 2012 the PAP took an oppositional
stance and openly competed with the Republicans.

HARVARD BOYS AND ARMENIAN PROJECT

Ashot Manucharyan, member of Karabakh Committee, sees a profound
process in the parliamentary election of May 6. He thinks two projects
are outlined in Armenia, one is the Anglo-American project, the other
is the forces which can work with the new tools and have now shaped
an Armenian system, a union of implementers of the Armenian project.

Manucharyan says Harvard boys and Armenian project carriers will
feature on the stage.

“For a few years now a transformation is underway in Armenia
perpetrated jointly by the Americans and the English. In this
sense, the events of the last stage are processes evidencing
the brilliant course. An administration is rapidly forming which
will be the administration of implementation of the Anglo-American
interests. This is the deep process and it proceeds with success,”
Mr. Manucharyan says.

He refers to the representatives of the Anglo-American administration
as “Harvard boys”. These are people who got acceptable education in
the West, gained some skills which are not so deep, on the other hand,
their outlook is formed of cheap cliches.

Manucharyan compares the situation with the American Shuttle. The
United States refused Shuttle in the space but not in politics.

According to Manucharyan, the party leaders, oligarchs, small and
middle-ranking officials are the burning matter that lifts the Harvard
boys to space. As soon as the administration is formed, you will see
how successfully the United States works, Manucharyan said. The second
part is the boys who stood up against this situation and expressed
the dream of people, life should not be like this. For the time being,
they have not achieved success. In the ANC a huge mass of people was
not able to take control over situation, let alone the country. Now
the ANC is controlled by the party leadership formed in the past 15
years. They are smart, competent people but they have nothing to do
in the philosophical system that has been formed.

VARTAN OSKANIAN CATEGORICALLY OPPOSED TO FORMING COALITION

YEREVAN.- Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) has not yet made a decision
on possibility of forming a coalition, PAP member, former Foreign
Minister Vartan Oskanian said.

“I am categorically opposed to forming a coalition. I am against
PAP’s “fake” coalition. If the coalition is formed I would continue
my struggle,” he emphasized.

Asked whether he would leave the party if a coalition is formed,
Oskanian advised that journalists should analyze and make a conclusion.

As regards PAP leader Gagik Tsarukyan’s opinion on coalition, Oskanian
said he is presently considering all the viewpoints on the issue.

Armenia’s Central Electoral Commission has issued the preliminary
results of the May 6 parliamentary elections.

Five parties and one political bloc will be represented in the
131-seat National Assembly (Parliament) of Armenia: Republican Party
of Armenia – 44.05% (663,066 votes), Prosperous Armenia Party – 30.20%
(454,684 votes), Armenian National Congress – 7.10% (106,910 votes),
Heritage Party – 5.79% (87,095 votes), ARF Dashnaktsutyun Party – 5.73%
(86, 296 votes), and Orinats Yerkir Party – 5.49% (82,690 votes).

SPANISH ANALYTIC IS SURE THAT IT IS TIME FOR TURKEY TO RECOGNIZE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE

YEREVAN, MAY 11, ARMENPRESS: In Spanish newspaper “El Imparcial” was
published the article “It is time for Turkey to recognize Armenian
genocide” the author of which is writer, analytic of Strategic and
International studies center “Elcano” attached to Foreign affairs
ministry of Spain William Chislett. He is a great expert of Turkish
history and policy. Armenpress partly presents the article.

I have always used with difficulty the term “genocide” as I did
not know much about the topic but after getting acquainted with the
materials and photos of victims in Genocide Museum in Yerevan, after
reading the book of Akcham I accept that term.

Turkish Government unlike European Parliament, parliaments of more
than 20 countries, Vatican, which have recognized the events of the
beginning of 20-th century as genocide, refuses that fact.

“Almost a century has passed already and it does not seem that
Turkey is planning to apologize or accept his fault. The sensuality
of Turkish Government over this issue was well noticed last year when
year French Parliament accepted the bill criminalizing the denial of
Armenian genocide. It created the angriness of Ankara which interrupted
its political and military relations with France. It is the time for
Turkish Government to recognize Armenian genocide and turn that page.

LE PARLEMENT SUEDOIS REJETTE UN TEXTE HOSTILE AU KARABAGH SOUTENU PAR BAKOU

Le Parlement suedois a rejete le 9 mai une motion activement soutenue
par l’Azerbaïdjan concernant le conflit du Haut-Karabagh, un texte
qui allait a l’encontre des principes affiches par les mediateurs
internationaux. La motion, proposee par un depute du Parti Vert, Mehmet
Kaplan, appelait notamment a une implication active de la Suède dans
le processus de règlement du conflit. Il demandait aussi ” le retrait
immediat et inconditionnel des forces militaires des territories azeris
occupes” et la mobilisation des organisations internationales en vue de
“garantir la securite et l’autodetermination de la minorite armenienne
au Haut-Karabagh, dans le cadre territorial de l’Azerbaïdjan”.

Les membres du Parlement suedois, le Riksdag, ont estime que cette
motion contrevenait aux principes affiches dans le cadre actuel des
negociations de paix, dont les Principes de Madrid. La motion ayant ete
portee devant le Parlement a l’initiative de l’un de ses membres, elle
ne fera donc pas l’objet d’un debat distinct et son rejet sera vote
dans un autre volet legislatif. Le Parlement suedois adoptera une autre
motion, qui reflète la position du Comite des affaires etrangères de la
Chambre. Ce texte indique notamment que “le conflit du Haut-Karabagh
necessite un règlement pacifique et il existe un mecanisme dans ce
sens. Cela relève de la responsabilite du Groupe de Minsk. Le Comite
soutient les efforts en cours dans le cadre de l’OSCE”.

Cette mise au point se doublait d’une reference au programme de
partenariat oriental de l’EU auquel sont associes les pays du Sud
Caucase, ouvrant des perspectives de cooperation plus particulièrement
dans les domaines de la “democratie, de la liberte de la presse et
du respect des droits de l’homme “. Dans ce texte, le “Comite note
que les negociations avec les trios pays dans le cadre du traite
d’association avec l’EU se sont poursuivies et que la Georgie et
l’Armenie ont accompli des progrès notables alors que les negociations
avec l’Azerbaïdjan se sont revelees plus difficiles”.

ARTSAKH CULTURE PRESENTED IN SHUSHI

A festive event dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Shushi’s
liberation was organized on May 9 in Shushi’s ‘Old Garden’.

The event was organized by Artsakh’s Culture and Youth Affairs
Ministry.

Artsakh’s culture has been presented in separate pavilions.

‘Narekatsi’ art center of Shushi Union had a separate pavilion which
presented the works of its pupils.

ARMENIAN TO OFFICIATE EXCLUSIVE WORLD CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH

The official opening of and drawing of the lot for the World Chess
Championship Match will be held Thursday in Moscow, and drawing of the
lot will be conducted by the event’s chief referee, Ashot Vardapetyan,
who is from Armenia’s capital, Yerevan.

The current world champion, Viswanathan Anand of India and the
challenger, Boris Gelfand of Israel, will play twelve classical games,
and a tiebreak will be played in case of a resultant draw.

The event’s prize money is US$ 2.55 million, and the winner will
receive its sixty percent.

The Indian Grandmaster is considered the favorite.

First game of the World Chess Championship Match will be played
on Friday.

l’ineffacité des répliques de la Turquie a l’approche du centenaire
du génocide arménien en 2015. Il annonce cependant avoir recu un
livre en turc de Wolfgang Gust qui l’a ébranlé : “Sans aller dans
le détail, lisant le livre et prenant connaissance des documents,
si vous êtes quelqu’un qui aborde le problème avec cet ouvrage,
il n’est pas possible alors de ne pas croire au génocide et de ne
pas donner raison aux Arméniens. Même si vous êtes un expert dans
le domaine, ou si vous avez fait des recherches sur ce qui s’est
passé du côté turc, même dans ce cas, vous serez ébranlé. De

Nous sommes en train de capituler sur la question du “génocide”

Nous sommes aujourd’hui le 24 avril. Une fois encore, comme cela
se reproduit tous les ans, les 70 millions de personnes que compte
la Turque vont se demander ce que disent les autres sur la question
arménienne. Que dit Washington ? Quel pays acceptera le génocide
affirmé par les Arméniens ?

Les jours passeront sous une certaine tension, puis nous oublierons
tout.

Ce processus ressemble a un supplice chinois. Parce que 2015 approche,
la pression va monter. La Turquie, comme elle l’a fait avant, réagira
durement. Elle se répandra en menaces, mais elles ne changeront rien.

Savez-vous pourquoi ? Parce que les Arméniens ont obtenu d’une
partie importante du monde qu’elle accepte leur allégation de
génocide. Les contre-argumentations de la Turquie ont été trop
tardives et trop inconsistantes. Il est inutile d’aller chercher loin
pour le constater. La semaine passée, un livre de 1000 pages sur ce
sujet a été envoyé a mon bureau.

Il a été écrit par le célèbre journaliste et écrivain Wolfgang
Gust.

Il comporte toute la documentation des activités contre les
Arméniens qui était classée dans les archives du ministère
allemand des affaires étrangères en 1915 et 1916. Ces documents
n’incluent pas seulement ceux envoyés par les diplomates allemands
ou les missionnaires en Turquie, mais également les points de vue
et débats au sein du gouvernement allemand sur ce même sujet.

Le livre est édité en turc. En anglais, en allemand, en espagnol
et en portugais, les éditions sont déja en cours d’impression. Son
message est “Si les Turcs ne le font pas, faisons-le nous-mêmes. Ils
devraient voir ces documents et comprendre les faits que nous
avons. Ils devraient être convaincus que nous n’agissons pas en
ennemis, mais essayons d’expliquer un incident.” Il a été traduit
dans un turc extrêmement compréhensible et beau par la maison
d’édition Belge. A l’évidence, cela a dÔ prendre des années.

C’est une étude extrêmement importante et précieuse.

Sans aller dans le détail, lisant le livre et prenant connaissance
des documents, si vous êtes quelqu’un qui aborde le problème avec cet
ouvrage, il n’est pas possible alors de ne pas croire au génocide et
de ne pas donner raison aux Arméniens. Même si vous êtes un expert
dans le domaine, ou si vous avez fait des recherches sur ce qui s’est
passé du côté turc, même dans ce cas, vous serez ébranlé. De
nombreuses questions vous viendront.

Dans une lettre reprise dans le livre, le chef de l’Institut Zoryan
du Canada, Greg Sarkissian, dit qu’une vraie paix ne peut être
établie que si les sources d’information sur le passé des nations
sont échangées et si les nations peuvent ouvertement parler du
passé. Il dit aussi que c’est ainsi que la compréhension et le
dialogue se développeront a la place de la haine.

Je veux maintenant poser une question aux élites turques : durant les
cinquante ans qui viennent de s’écouler, avez-vous fait une telle
étude ? Avez-vous cherché dans les sources internationales, et –
m̻me avec des pr̩jug̩s Рavez-vous publi̩ un tel livre ? Quelle
sorte d’études avez-vous faites – issues de nos propres sources – qui
seraient aptes a convaincre l’opinion internationale ? Vous êtes-vous
limitées aux seules archives turques ou satisfaites de ces seules
archives parce que vous ne pouviez pas trouver des documents ou des
preuves fiables ?

Ne nous décevons pas mutuellement : si vous pouvez donner des
réponses correctes a ces questions, alors vous serez capables de
clarifier quelques points clés pour nous.

Je sais que vous resterez silencieux.
