ARMENIAN GENOCIDE: TESTIMONIES OF WITNESSES BOOK PRESENTED

Armenian Genocide: Testimonies of Witnesses book by Verzhine Svazyan
has been presented today. The author said the book has been published
in Armenian and English languages and soon the Turkish version will
be issued.

“It includes 700 life stories. Though I have heard thousands of
stories, one more terrible than the other but I have decided to present
700. Besides these stories the book includes summaries in 7 languages,”
she said.

The author also said that she works on Armenian Genocide issue for more
than 55 years. She has gathered the stories not only from different
regions of Armenia, but Lebanon, Syria, Canada, the USA, Turkey.

Svazyan noted that for years a number of studies about Armenian
genocide have been issued but the most important is the testimonies
of survivors.

“Those who have seen and suffered must speak about it. From legal
point of you the testimonies of the survivors are as important as
the testimonies of witnesses in the courts,” he said.

EX-KNESSET SPEAKER: DON’T FORGET ARMENIAN GENOCIDE DUE TO POLITICS

PanARMENIAN.Net – The Knesset will mark, Tuesday, on April 23, the
98th anniversary of the killing and deportation of up to 1.8 million
Armenians by the Ottoman Empire, Israel National News reported.

Against the backdrop of negotiations between Israel and Turkey to
restore relations, former Knesset speaker Reuven Rivlin said, ahead of
the observance, “Don’t forget Armenian Genocide due to politics. As
human beings and as Jews, we must not ignore the disaster of another
people, and not because of diplomatic considerations, important as
they are. We will continue to mark the anniversary of the massacre
of the Armenian people, regardless of relations with today’s Turkey
as an ally.”

Taner Akcam: Denial Of Genocide Is A Useless Waste Of Time

Ermenihaber.am information website has published experts of the
interview of famous Turkish historian Taner Akcam with Zaman daily.

Taner Akcam is one of the first Turkish academics to acknowledge and
openly discuss the Armenian Genocide.

In response to the question: “Do you believe that the 1915 events were
genocide?” the historian replied: “Many in Turkey don’t know that
the term “genocide” came into use after the Armenian Genocide. The
term was coined by Raphael Lemkin who said that he coined the word to
describe what had happened to the Armenians. And after all this, we
continue to discuss whether genocide was committed in 1915 or not? I
consider it a useless waste of time. As a result, the circles denying
the 1915 events take advantage of the people’s lack of information on
the subject and want to start a meaningless and irrelevant discussion”.

When asked to express his opinion about what solution will be found to
the Armenian issue, the historian said: “I think it is necessary to
speak about the Turkish issue, rather than the Armenian one. We, the
Turks, should learn to speak about the historical events that occurred
in the past. We should learn to understand and share pain of others”.

In the historian’s opinion, the second important step is opening the
borders. “The problems of the past can be solved by normalizing the
current relations. The closed borders and the refusal to establish
diplomatic relations with Armenia will hinder the problem’s
resolution,” Akcam said, adding that apologizing will be the third
step.

He also expressed an opinion that Turkey should cease to be
Azerbaijan’s guardian. “Turkey even asks Azerbaijan’s permission to
operate flights in its airspace. The Armenian-Turkish protocols were
not ratified because of Azerbaijan’s pressure. I hope that Turkey,
which is taking bold steps in the Kurdish issue, will undertake
similar steps concerning the Armenian Genocide’s recognition,” Taner
Akcam said in conclusion.

PROSPEROUS ARMENIA PARTY LEADER AND PRESIDENT SARGSYAN’S MEETING WAS HELD IN “AFFECTIONATE” ATMOSPHERE – NEWSPAPER

YEREVAN. – According to well-informed sources, the recent meeting
between Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) Chairman Gagik Tsarukyan and
ruling Republican Party (RPA) leader, President Serzh Sargsyan was
held in an “affectionate” atmosphere, just as the previous ones,
Hraparak daily reports.

“PAP sources inform that, ‘during the [capital city Yerevan] Council
elections, both sides will not resort to Black PR that passes the
Rubicon.’ [And, now,] visiting the voters, the PAP [representatives]
say they [that is, the voters] will receive money on Election Day
[on May 5].

But the RPA likewise is not falling behind in money initiatives.

The Gagik-Tsarukyan-Serzh Sargsyan talk was followed by the PAP
headquarters session, which Tsarukyan did not attend,” Hraparak writes.

BLACK BOOK: PROMINENT FOREIGNERS REFLECT ON ARMENIAN GENOCIDE

YEREVAN. – The presentation of the Russian-language edition of the
book, entitled Black Book: Prominent Foreigners on Turkish Crimes and
Armenian Genocide, was held at Armenian State Pedagogical University
(ASPU), the latter informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“In this book, the greatest foreign notables speak frankly and with
serious assessments about the greatest tragedy of our nation. I am
confident that the book’s publications in other languages will again
enable the international community to reflect on and to analyze the
Genocide,” ASPU Rector Ruben Mirzakhanyan specifically said addressing
the event.

“Modern-day Turkey is guided by Genocide denial and a xenophobic
policy. They continue to bear the ideology of the Ottoman Empire and
reject the values of the modern world,” Deputy FM Shavarsh Kocharyan
stated, in his turn, and assured that they will do everything possible
to have this book printed in other languages, too.

Albert Isoyan, the author of the book, noted that his work will be
published also in Arabic, Spanish, and several other languages.

To note, the patron of Black Book: Prominent Foreigners on Turkish
Crimes and Armenian Genocide is Armenia’s Premier, Armenian State
Pedagogical University Council member, Tigran Sargsyan.

ZHOGHOVURD: FORMER GYUMRI MAYOR NO LONGER GOES TO CHURCH

Many of Gyumri residents have noticed that former Mayor Vardan
Ghukasyan no longer goes to the church after his dismissal. He would
often be seen in the church while being Mayor, Zhoghovurd daily says.

The paper sought commentary from Ghukasyan. “I do not keep away from
the church. I consider myself the son of the church and therefore I
cannot stay away from the church,” Ghukasyan told the paper.

HUNDREDS OF EVENTS TO BE HELD IN USA DEDICATED TO 98TH ANNIVERSARY OF ARMENIAN GENOCIDE

YEREVAN, APRIL 23, ARMENPRESS. Hundreds of events will be held in
various parts of the United Sates dedicated to the 98th anniversary of
the Armenian Genocide. In a conversation with “Armenpress” the ANCA
Press Secretary Elizabeth Chouljian stated that each of the states
will commemorate the Armenian Genocide victims’ memory in its own
way, but the central events will be held in Washington, New York,
and California. Among other things she noted: “We usually use April
as an informational and educational period to inform news stations and
governmental bodies about the Armenian Genocide and address to them.

We target the American Government to stop its “complicity” with the
Turkish Government in the process of denial.”

A massive manifestation is scheduled to be held in front of the Turkish
Embassy on April 24, after which the manifestants will come together
before the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia for the requiem service
and commemoration ceremony. In the evening commemoration ceremony
will be held near the Congress. Dozens of congressmen are expected
to attend the commemoration ceremony.

LE GOUVERNEMENT ARMENIEN PRET A NEGOCIER AVEC LES COMPAGNIES AERIENNES POUR REDUIRE LE PRIX DES BILLETS D’AVION

Le gouvernement d’Armenie est en negociation avec les compagnies
aeriennes pour reduire le prix des billets d’avion a annonce le
directeur de l’aviation civile Artem Movsisyan lors d’une discussion
publique sur l’avenir de l’aviation civile.

Les billets d’Aeroflot sont 20% moins chers aujourd’hui par rapport au
1er mars avant que la compagnie Armavia ait annonce sa faillite, a-t-il
dit. ” Ceci est le resultat des negociations avec le gouvernement
“, a ajoute Artem Movsisyan. Selon lui, il ne devrait pas y avoir de
preoccupation eventuelle quant a une augmentation des prix.

Artem Movsisyan a egalement dit qu’il a eu des consultations avec
toutes les compagnies aeriennes operant en Armenie, et qu’elles ont
accepte de ne pas augmenter les prix dans les circonstances actuelles.

La compagnie aerienne qui a releve le prix des billets (de 10000 drams)
est FlyDubai.

Artem Movsisyan a egalement souligne que, d’autre part, l’augmentation
saisonnière des prix des billets d’avion a ete enregistree au cours
des dernières annees.

La part d’Armavia dans le trafic aerien etait 20 a 24% seulement
au cours des deux dernières annees a dit le directeur de l’aviation
civile. En Janvier et Fevrier 2013, elle etait encore plus faible –
16% et 12% respectivement.

LA KNESSET POURRAIT DISCUTER AUJOURD’HUI DE LA RECONNAISSANCE DU GENOCIDE ARMENIEN

Le groupe de travail de la Cause armenienne de Jerusalem a annonce
que le 23 Avril la Knesset pourrait examiner la question de la
reconnaissance du genocide armenien lors de sa session plenière.

La directrice du Comite national de la cause armenienne a Jerusalem
Georgette Avagyan a rapporte que cette nouvelle a ete livre par
le president du Parti Meretz Zahava Gal-On pendant une conference
telephonique le 21 Avril.

Le Comite national de la Cause armenienne travaille actuellement pour
assurer la participation de la delegation armenienne a la session de
la Knesset qui se tiendra aujourd’hui.

“De nombreux membres de cette session de la Knesset sont nouveaux
et ne connaissent pas trop le genocide armenien et le president de
la Knesset est nouveau aussi. Donc, il est très important de leur
fournir les informations necessaires sur le genocide armenien ” –
a declare Georgette Avagyan.
